What is it? The link doesn't work for me for whatever reason.

It doesn't work for me either.

John

It looks to be a first edition of Jack Finney's THE BODY SNATCHERS.
Not sure why it doesn't show for some members. Perhaps a broweser setting.
Hopefully this image shows:

Just for fun, I took apart a Grant first edition of Wizard and Glass, and then rebound it in two volumes as an imitation of the S/L. I learned a lot by doing this, and it's not perfect, but I think the results look pretty darn good:

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag74/Robert_Fulman/DV300F/aa_zps720e2f15.jpg

I haven't had a chance to make a slipcase yet, but it fits pretty nicely in a Talisman slipcase:

Can we see some shots of the binding? Did you have it done or did you take a crack at it yourself?

KenI did the work myself. Here is a better picture of the binding and moire endpapers and decorative headband (which is one of the silliest features ever; it's literally just decorative). Sorry bout the dust:

http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag74/Robert_Fulman/DV300F/aa_zps898c04fa.jpg

And here are the bindings au naturale. I went with white because the S/L is white, but I didn't want to imply that I was trying to counterfeit the actual S/L, so I used a faux suede cloth. For the slipcase, I'm going to use a black faux leather, similar to what Grant uses for their multi-volume DT slipcases.

Brilliant! Can't be many of those signed! It took a lot of time and effort going from event to event hoping for opportunity. We hung out outside Today show for over 4 hours, Went to Apple store SOHO event, Were in Letterman show audience. also outside studios where Morning Joe, Charlie Rose & All Things Considered are taped. Some sigs obtained at Apple store. Kings outside Colbert show studio. Glad we planned a trip to NY for last week. Was a whirlwind however a lot of fun with some eventual success.

I don't think so (unless Bob et al. disagree). AFAIK they're trade editions with review slips (if the slips go missing you'd never know they were review copies), whereas proofs/ARCs are physically different items.

Was searching bookstores all over NYC new and used.
Was checking new stores daily (especially around area where thought King might be staying) in case he had dropped in and signed a stack. NO LUCK.
Always visit various used as well as rare book stores. I found these two at a high end book store which had just taken in someones collection of Kings books. There were a lot of Limiteds as well as some decent 1st/1sts of older rarities all over priced IMO. The most intriguing thing was at this store as well as others I kept finding Books inscribed "To Jim" and some had great inscriptions. Found a 1st edition Gunslinger (kinda worn cover) at the Strand inscribed to Jim for $2000.
I did not get these signed ... when I was able to catch King outside Colbert had these and some other rarer items with me however due to rain I kept them safe rather than risk shoving them through the crowd of signature collectors hounding the event.

Hey Patrick, are all the insides the same?
Hi Becca,

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I read the "orange cover" ARC, but barely touched the more scarce two. My understanding is that the blue cover has the exact same insides as the orange cover, just a lot fewer blue covers.

We should ask Brian to shed some light on whether the blank covers were run prior to the other two. I had assumed they were since he had said that 10 of them were marked up for changes.

herbertwest

Btw, i've never understood why people were saying "orange cover"... cause for me they are both red...

In actuality, the first is more orange, and the last one is black with some orange. The orange tends more toward the red, but it's still orange.

In actuality, the first is more orange, and the last one is black with some orange. The orange tends more toward the red, but it's still orange.

John

Ok, i've JUST noticed the orangy sky on the first... but the last one is black with some orange : i dont see any orange on the cover...???

Finally got an awesome deal!

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4456/eyl9.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/109/eyl9.jpg/)

Signed 1st edition of Dolores Claiborne for $69 shipped!

I figure it is worth two to three times that.

The cheapest one on ebay now is $199 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dolores-Claiborne-Stephen-King-SIGNED-TRUE-First-Edition-1st-Printing-Org-DJ-HC-/251292706595?pt=US_Fiction_Books&hash=item3a82366723), and it is a forgery.

The other three are $290 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stephen-King-Signed-Dolores-Claiborne-First-Edition-VG-/130932864216?pt=US_Fiction_Books&hash=item1e7c34f4d8) and $350 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEPHEN-KING-HAND-SIGNED-COPY-OF-DOLORES-CLAIBORNE-RARE-INSCRIBED-TO-DAVID-/251025446730?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7248574a) and $500 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEPHEN-KING-Dolores-Claiborne-SIGNED-1ST-EDITION-/220565878454?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item335ac036b6) (overpriced...especially the last two).

Correct. Artists have been drawing in books for years. The only recent invention is mistakenly calling the drawings remarques.

Btw, i've never understood why people were saying "orange cover"... cause for me they are both red...

The colored corner was a lot more orange on the screen when we sent the ARCs to the printer and we kept calling it the orange one at the office after they arrived.

When I posted, I should have called that one the "trade review copy" and the blue cover one the "slipcased trade review copy," so any confusion is my mistake. :)

Something surprising : i bought something on ebay (THE STAND - promotional tv series thingy), and noticed when i recieved it that i already have it in my promotional videostore set.
So i sent it back... and the seller even reimbursed me the shipping fees! Surprising as he sent it to me !
Oh well :)

And yesterday i recieved the latest book of a french author (Maxime CHattam), that is often considered as the french Stephen King. He DO like Stephen King, and in the past he exchanged some emails with me.
Last week i went to attend a book signing by this author, but he arrived late at the shop and apparently the bookchain closed the door for entries to the signature.
He was still signing when the shop was closing, but the shop employees told me to go away as they wouldnt let any more people in... so i was disappointed.
Yesterday i recieved a copy of his book, signed & personnalised, and mentionning in the signature being too a fan of King :)
Pix this week end :)

Maxime Chattam is a french author whose books are thrillers. I discovered him a few months ago but read quite a lot of his books. He is a Stephen King fan too, and we started talking a bit via twitter.
Met him yesterday at the 1st edition of a Fantastic Literary Awards, created by "La ligue de l'imaginaire", a group of french authors who promote imaginary litterature.

Got a few books signed.

Something that i forgot to say about the other night, when i got my books signed.
The award delivered to an author is quite different. One of the partners of the event, is the Musée Grevin (the french version of "Madame Tussaud" in London, a wax statue museum), who had been inaugurated in 1882 by the french author Victor Hugo (ie : The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Les Miserables... etc).
So the award was a wax version of Victor Hugo's hand! Quite cool he!

Unfortunately i dont have any pictures of it... :-(
