I was talking about The Stand. Sorry I was not clear. I envy you the Exorcist/Legion volume, too. With my current financial situation, I have to stick with just King stuff, so I didn't get that edition, though I really wanted it.

I just picked up a CD Lettered "The Passage" by Justin Cronin for $102 at a used bookstore!! I think they mispriced this as the S/L of the book usually runs about $175. They also had an CD Lettered Exorcist/Legion for $400 but i could not afford both and the Exorcist was priced more what I would expect to see.

My new P&J (not Stephen King, related, sorry) is a master galley proof of one of my favorite books, and probably the best time travel book ever written, "The Man Who Folded Himself" by David Gerrold. This is for the first Random House edition published in 1973, and yes I am totally going to read it:

http://imageshack.us/a/img802/8211/sam3467.jpg

There are handwritten notes throughout, but also some typed ones. I think it's cool that 40 years ago someone (probably Gerrold, but maybe an editor) read this and said, "I think this paragraph here needs a little slapstick humor.":

Yeah, storing Knowing Darkness is tough. Sort of like certain Lettered Editions that I like a lot, yet I also fully understand where collectors are coming from when I hear the occasional complaints regarding the size... :)

Nice deals! Local bookstore?

A couple from bookstores in town, a couple from bookstores in Jacksonville where my folks live. One from a store in St. Augustine that usually charged an arm and a leg for anything that was nice, so it was nice that they missed the 2nd printing Gunslinger. Some from a store in Tampa that sadly closed a while back, I never went there without finding something nice. And a few from local book sales. Whenever I visit friends and relatives I try to hit the local bookstores while I'm there!

I would love to live in the US for a couple of years and get the chance to go to 2nd hand bookstores and actually find books that I'm interested in (they don't even have to be great deals). All my favorite writers are from the US and UK - all I can find here are Dutch translations, 97th printing US/UK mass-market paperbacks or beat-up US/UK hardcover copies of more recent trade editions. No older books and magazines, no proofs, no signed books, no limiteds... I fully rely on eBay, ABE et cetera and often sellers don't want to ship overseas and if they do, it's getting more and more expensive. I'm pretty sure that 25% of the money I invested in my collection was spent on shipping costs alone.

Sorry, I needed to get this off my chest.

Those were some great, great deals, Barlow!

I've got some info on this that I'll pass along later today or tonight. Just some comments that Stuart Schiff made concerning the omission of King's story. Basically he says that King was being a jerk as usual (his feelings, not necessarily mine). I'll quote him verbatim later today.

I bought a proof copy of the anthology VAMPIRES, edited by Alan Ryan, way back in 1997 from Stuart Schiff. Here is part of his description/listing at that time:

"This fine book was to have included King's "One for the Road," but the master presented everyone with his usual complications making it impossible to include the tale in the finished book. Therefore this Proof copy includes the King story while the finished book does not. Doubleday rarely produces more than 25 copies of any proof (save for major novels and the like) so this is a very rare King item."

Wish we knew more. It sounds like it could have been a good story.

So - I think most of you here have heard some bad press concerning myself.

I am now announcing my newest Pride and Joy - I think this should show how much I am dedicated to this community and how sincere I am about this place. It also shows how much faith I have in a certain member here! I WANT to be here and I WANT to be a top member!

My newest Pride and Joy is being the FIRST lifetime member of Ambannon Books!

I was recently contacted by someone i tried to contact in the past : someone that created a french fanzine about Stephen King in the late 80s... and this person was able to provide me photocopies of the issues i was missing.
So i took that opportunity to add the COVERS on my website

LES AMI(E)S DE STEPHEN KING (lit. : the friends of Stephen King)
>>> http://club-stephenking.fr/3194-les-amies-de-stephen-king

STEVE'S RAG
I also have some issues of another french fanzine, created by the CLUB STEPHEN KING LILLE.
Here are the covers if the issues that i currently own, and i should be able to get copies of the missing issues in the next few weeks
>>> http://club-stephenking.fr/67-steve-s-rag-fanzine-francais-stephen-king

FENETRE SECRETE SUR STEPHEN KING (lit : Secret Window on Stephen King)

I have seen a lettered collection of those on ebay, but i'll pass. However, if someone has them and wouldnt mind providing me the covers... that would be awesome :)

So Joe Hill is in the new right now with his new novel out so what better place to put this pic than here. One might ask, what the hell is this! Well check it out, its pretty funny and then below I'll tell you a bit more about it.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/JH_Back.JPG

So, I deal with this store called Game Parlor and as a sideline business they sell comic books. I have them reserve the Marvel Stephen King items and also the IDW Lock & Key from Joe Hill. On my reservation form I also checked off to order me any one shots that might come out. I only stop by this store once a month or so and pick up what they have for me. The other day I went in and all they had was this one shot from Joe Hill. Look at this - it's huge. I put a normal sized comic next to it for a reference point.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/Joe_Hill_Comic.jpg

So what's inside you might ask - here is a shot of the table of contents. It contains some one shots that I missed for whatever reason. Kinda of cool and was totally not expecting this. And it only cost $9.99!

Yes. I am going to read it, dog ear it, spill on it, etc. It's paperback-that is it's destiny..

Not necessarily. I was in touch with the publicity rep since the original announcement of the book (about 1 year ago?), and was told at some point that i shalll be getting mine mid of may.
Hope to get it before friday otherwise i wont be able to read it prior to the release..

I also got a copy today. I requested a copy as soon as i heard about the project. I think they must have had too many requests or it was just easier to send a regular copy. At least we can read it!!!

I really should be ashamed of myself (and I kinda' am) that it took so long. I let personal issues get in the way more than I should have and then there were times I simply forgot. Then I'd remember and something else would come up. Anyhow I've been working on going back and doing anything I've ever said I was going to do and didn't. This was by far the oldest commitment I'd made and I'm really glad it got to you okay and I'm thrilled you like it, my friend. I'm absolutely sure it couldn't have a better home. :)

As I said I'm not really proud of it having taken so long. To be honest I feel kind of bad about it, but I can't really undo that either. The recipient has been overly understanding about it...likely more than I deserve. I didn't know him at all before the giveaway and he's been nothing, but kind about it when he'd be perfectly in the right to be upset with me. I fucked up on this one. I consider myself lucky to have him as a friend.

I've bitched more than once about the "Coffin Case" that never ever came from Hinchberger (Overlook Press). I even found someone who actually received one of the cases, got the specs to reproduce it, then realized spending ~$200 for a case for a book that would be worth $25 wasn't a good idea (one of the few times I exercised good judgement when it comes to an obsession).

If you were ever going to stop, 649 seems like a cool number to stop at....

I have finally finished my Holdorf set. Spent months looking for someone on eBay or ABE who actually had pictures of Pet Sematary so I could verify it was the Holdorf cover. Finally found a seller who had a fine copy for $30.

Not sure why it doesn't show for some members. Perhaps a broweser setting.
Hopefully this image shows:
