I know it is not King related, but I just wanted to share my newest purchase with everyone. The Artist's Edition of Born Again, which IMHO, is one of the top 3 comics mini-series ever. I took the pic next to the regular edition of Knowing Darkness. This is one large book. Each page is scanned from the original black and white pages from the artist. Truly a wonderful work:

I want to start by again thanking our good friend David at Betts for letting me know about this. He knows im a huge fan of Joe Hills and so informed me of the Neiba convention in Providence RI yesterday. I met him there and it was certainly a worthwhile trip! YES, he was signing and giveing out copies of his new book, not to be released until next summer. UNBELIEVABLE!!! i am sooooo happy to have gotten an inscribed to me copy with a neat doodle. Very happy!!!

these are going to be VERY scarce. The publishers minions told us that this was actually a pre copy of the proof. there actually isnt an official proof yet to go out.
David over at Betts is selling his last copy i believe for $200 or best offer i believe. Keep in mind it was a very long ride in the middle of a work week to get there and there was a $125 admission fee for bookstore owners to get in so this is a more than fair price and im sure his last copy is not going to last long.
Anyway. just wanted to share my amazing experiance from yesterday with you all.

I've felt the need to do a little collecting in the last week or so (my need to buy books has a high negative correlation with my happiness at work). Purchased a handful of DMG books (there is something to be said for collecting things that can generally be had for $10 or so) and some Lawrence Blocks; I'll post a group photo when they get here.

Today I was a my favorite local book store, and they had pretty much every issue of Fantasy and Science Fiction from 1976 to 2000 for $1 each. I felt a little bad about breaking up the complete sets from 1978, 1980, and 1981 to get The Gunslinger for $5, so I also bought the complete set of 1977 issues (my year of birth) to make myself feel better.

Finally found a nonfiction piece by King that I have been searching for for over 10 years. The June 4, 1984 issue of The New Republic. Neither expensive by any stretch nor necessarily highly sought after by collectors but I just couldn't seem to ever find a copy. Finally found this one on eBay by an Australian seller and got it today. I am about as excited to have this somewhat worn copy as anything I have gotten in the past year or so.

King and Michener wrote competing articles on their personal favorite to win that year's Democratic primary to face Ronald Reagan in the Presidential election.

Some infos about Reinhard Kleist´s FUCK.
Four young people in Berlin: A story about their dreams, desires, friendship and family relationship. It all explodes when the mysterious punk S. appeares in each of their lives. "Fuck" is not only based on autobiographical experiences. The book is loosely based on the saga of the Nibelungen, a famous german fairy tale.

Not King related but perhaps some interest here since Glenn Chadbourne is so popular. I have stated that I don't care much for Chadbourne but I might be starting to change my mind, especially since I bought an original piece of art. Zach Powell of King's Way Press has recently published a deluxe illustrated edition of Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN. Chadbourne did some of the illustrations. It is pretty good stuff but I was absolutely blown away by one piece in particular called "The Bride." I was glad to see the original offered on eBay. The detail in the dress is amazing and I wish my photographic skills were better to do it justice. Anyway, I really like what Glenn did with this book.

That is a beautiful artwork, Bob. I think it's more a subject matter that is the underlying issue with Chadbourne's desirability of artwork. I'm sick and tired of seeing his zombies and rats.....

I got mine today too. I think what you are describing is the result of the process of "tipping in" the limitation page with the signatures. I assume they use some sort of glue or paste to stick the limitation page to the adjacent pages so that it will stay in place. If this is what you are describing then, yes, mine is the same.

The book and tray case are beautiful. My traycase also has a couple of slight imperfections but I think given the material used that is inevitable unless placed under a glass dome. I think that it will acquire rubs if and when it comes into contact with other books and traycases. Because of that I think that my copy is destined to be repacked and stored in a closet. It is a nice book though.

Where did you order your copy from?

I believe the signed copies obtained from the book dealers are tipped-in pages. They were obtained directly from the publisher that way. Books from actual signings are not tipped-in.

You are right. That's what I meant to say. I like the full signature on the blank page. Sometimes it looks nicer than when done at a signing.

The one I got was also VJ Books. It's a great sig - seems clearer, less scribbled -- but like Dan said, looks sort of lonely.........

You know the Sherlock Holmes/Doctor's Case proofs that were relisted countless times on eBay over the past few months? Well, I just couldn't stand it any longer and I bought them (I paid less than the $145 at which they were listed for in the final auction). I don't collect anthology proofs but this is a neat set, I think.

I was kind of surprised that they didn't sell sooner. Isn't the Doctor's Case proof pretty rare? I guess collecting anthology proofs is a niche-within-a-niche thing.

I ordered my signed copy from Murder by the Book. Signed directly on the title page.

They must be sold out of signed copies, I can't find any on there site.
If anyone has the link it would be greatly appreciated..

Order from here. If you want an inscription you add one in the comment section when you order. You won't get it until after the signing on the 30th though. http://www.murderbooks.com/event/justin-cronin

Yesterday I met Justin Cronin for the 2nd time-he is a very funny guy!
I got my
UK Proof of The Twelve signed and dated
The Waterstones sampler signed and Dated
The US Hardcover signed :To Michael "All Eyes" signed and dated
He spoke and answered questions for an hour and stated that he has NEVER had this many people at a book signing. He married a woman from Minnesota so he always likes to come here.

Okay, this is pretty random but I was browsing this thread for fun and my eye fell on this ancient post by Hutch.

I was bagging and putting away a Thinner proof and a notice fell out of it.
I've probably handled 25 of this proof over the years and have never seen this before. It welcomes new writer Richard Bachman and introduces his new venture into the horror genre. I made the image large so you can read it. So here's the address to copy and paste into your browser.

http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii232/dhutch57/?action=view&current=IMG_0651.jpg

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii232/dhutch57/IMG_0651.jpg

Is this letter really that scarce? I'm asking because my copy of the proof came with one too (not that it would matter if it's not scarce, I'm happy with it either way).

Mr. Rabbit Trick
10-31-2012, 07:22 AM
I would have though every proof originally came with it, but most of them got binned by the reviewer. They will get hundreds of this type of promotion.

10-31-2012, 07:25 AM
I know, I'm just curious how many survived. The fact that it's about Mr Bachman makes it just a little more special.

Scars, by Richard Christian Matheson (Introduction):

And a complete set of printers proofs of Cell:

This latter may also be called blue lines. According to the seller, there were no more than 20 of these done. Most, I assume, were used by the printer and destroyed.
