Thank you very much all and GOOD LUCK, TOM AND MICHAËL! :)

We're not getting married for now. Neither my girlfriend or I are very interested in the marriage as the event, and since here the rights are the same for a married couple than a living-together one, well, we're not aiming for that now. We might do it in the future, since it'll be the best way for my girlfriend to get the italian nationality (I have it), but not for now. We do have a document certified by the law that we live together, so it's what gives us the same rights as a married couple.

I'm in shock! :) But so happy as well!

Where is this sale? And do they have one every month?

This particular sale was only displayed on either Facebook or the news page on CD's website. It didn't go out on the newsletter so they could see who actually was following them. They have had several of these sales over the last few months and I have purchased quite a bit from them. They also had a 50% off gift card a while back. So, combination of the gift card and sale I was buying stuff fairly cheap until my gift card was used up.

New bookcase. I finally have a place where I can store all of my DT books at eye level. The case is a Billy from IKEA, and it's almost 8 feet tall. Darn things are hard to find. This one, though, is in absolutely beautiful condition. Im very pleased.

In January 2001 Murray Shulman (UMO student and editor of Ubris in 1968 ) found four or five copies each of the Spring 1968 and Fall 1968 issues in his garage. They were in varying condition but some were really nice. He put up an eBay listing that consisted of about two lines of text and no photos (obviously new to eBay). We thought it was a joke or a fraud but I e-mailed him, decided he was legit and bought two of his nicest copies for $500 apiece. The others were also gobbled up quickly by other collectors. I suspect that many of the copies of the 1968 issues that change hands today are from that lucky find in his garage. He told me that they printed 600 copies of the Spring, 1968 issue and increased it to 1000 copies for the Fall, 1968 issue. Prior to this find it seemed that the 1969 issues were the easiest to find but now, because of Murray's find there are more 1968 issues available for collectors and the 1969 issues seem to be the hardest to find.

And don't forget UBRIS II. Published in 1984 it reprints "Cain Rose Up" and has an interview with Steve and Tabitha King. It also has a chronological publishing history of all the UMO literary publications (MOTH, ONAN, MAINE REVIEW, etc.). Interesting reading.

Well Carlos now you've done it. I did NOT know about Ubris II. It was not on my wish list - never heard of it. Now its added. Interesting info re Murray's find and now I know why the 69 issues are harder to come by. Im in contact with a number of UMO teachers and students from that time period and none had Ubris issues available - they did at one time but had sold them off years ago. However, this little gem has come up a three times by three different booksellers - all of whom were peddling it as SK. When I first heard of this copy I checked with my UMO contacts and they were "pretty sure" it wasnt Stephen King. It only says "Spring" on the back cover and no other dates on any of the other pics I have. It was a little frustrating because NONE of my contacts was able to confirm 100% that it was or was not Stephen King (they just simply couldnt remember but also they couldnt remember any other King), but at the same time Folger Library was saying it most definitely WAS Stephen King. In the end I decided to pass on it. It wasnt cheap and I didnt want to spend the money on a "maybe" especially when this issue is not noted anywhere.

I've got the black Billy's with the full glass, but didn't get the extended top shelf. I would have if they made a "door" that opened down/up instead of split in the middle. I like the idea of using that top shelf to display cool stuff. Plus, my ceiling is just high enough to add that shelf... how tall are your ceilings?

The literary chronology in UBRIS II lists Tony Chamberlain and Nancy-Jean Smith as editors of the first two issues of UBRIS, dated Fall (Dec.) 1965 and Spring 1966. Sej Johnson took over as editor for the Spring 1967 and Winter 1967-68 issues.

King graduated high school in 1966 so he would still have been in high school for "Spring 1966." I am guessing he got to Univ. of Maine-Orono in the fall of 1966. So he wasn't even a student at UMO for the issue in question.

I agree. I'd like to have somewhere in these forums that stores this kind of information so that it's easily found. I just hate paging through threads to find something I've read somewhere.

Agreed, but how do we define the area, then what info goes in, how do we have a list that doesn't become as difficult to search as the forum?
It's a bit like "sticking" threads. At some point with 8+ pages of threads, if we stick them all, then it's the same.
The ultimate answer is the Catalog. If it isn't there now, then hopefully it will be-with member contributon, there in the future.

We're hunting for the same Ubris issues, Twisted. I need this one, as well as the one you're still looking for. You're two steps ahead of me now, since you also own a copy of Marshroots!

Anyway, great catch! Congratulations!

Twisted, or anyone else that own a copy of Marshroots, mind posting a photo of it?. I don't own one and am looking for one also. Would really like to know what it looks like. Much appreciated!.

When I got my Ubris copies, the seller had this one for sale as well but he knew it did not contain any work by 'our' Stephen.

If you tell me who the editor(s) are I think I can tell you what year that issue is from. It will be 1965, 1966 or 1967.

Co_Editors: Nancy-jean smith, Tony Chamberlain
Staff: Sej Johnson, Mike Alpert, Robert Marggraf
advisor: Karl Kopp

Both Mike Alpert and Robert Marggraf were checked with (sent them pics as well) and neither could remember though they were both "pretty sure" it wasnt SK

Yes - he was the first seller to approach me on this issue. However, he had told me he had done more research (including confirming with Fogler Library) that it was Stephen King. This is when I started contacting my UMO contacts (and Fogler Library) to find out. In the end I told this seller that I was of the opinion that it probably wasnt our King though here was no hard core proof either way so passed on the purchase.

A little off topic now but I found this in the 1967 UMO yearbook. Pic of a ROBERT KING with Sej Johnson. Most likely this is the King who wrote those poems in 1966. For those who are interested all their yearbooks are online here: http://www.library.umaine.edu/yearbooks/

I received my signed UK Night Shift from Jerome (Thankee sai) so I wanted to post by latest P&J...my mini-collection of signed US and UK first 5 King novels. So here they are:

Signed Carrie Arc (this was part of Rand Torman's collection); this is signed to Stuart Schiff...a biggie in the King world

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Carrie_US_ARC.jpg

Signed Carrie 1st edition

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Carrie_US_1st.jpg

Signed Carrie UK 1st edition...I'm sure they are out there but I have never seen another signed UK 1st in 15+ years; Rand got this signed at the Betts Bag of Bones signing event in 1998.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Carrie_UK_1st.jpg

Signed Salem's Lot 1st with almost mint Father Cody DJ; I bought this from Stu at Betts more than 10 years ago; my signature experts agree that this flatsigned signature is circa 1975; while the additional inscription by previous owner might be a detraction for some, I think it lends to the authenticity of the book, inscribed in 1975 by a local Maine resident.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Salem_s_US_1st.jpg

Signed Salem's UK 1st; I got this signed on my wedding anniversary last year at the Mason University signing event

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Salem_s_UK_1st.jpg

Signed US Shining 1st; bought this just recently on eBay

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Shining_US_1st.jpg

Signed UK Shining 1st....my all-time favorite UK dust jacket to be sure! Nice early sig too!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Shining_UK_1st.jpg

Signed US Night Shift 1st

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_US_1st.jpg

UK Night Shift 1st - signed at the Rock Bottom Remainders concert last week...truly a forgettable signature...too bad because this Night Shift copy is a sweet sweet one, very rare; again, in 15 years I've never seen a signed UK Night Shift for sale. Am sure they are out there but there can't be many.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Night_Shift_UK_1st.jpg

The Stand signed US 1st edition

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Stand_US_1st.jpg

The Stand UK 1st edition inscribed: Hutch told me once that he thought there might be only 1000 1st editions of this book (at least that is my recollection). This book was inscribed on the night BEFORE NEL realeased the book in the UK and the inscription is to an employee of NEL that was at the launch party...pretty cool I think.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/Stand_UK_1st.jpg

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!

David those are some pretty impressive books. I especially like the Salem's Lot. I think the owner's inscription adds a nice touch - not a deterrent.

Re: Rock Bottom Sharpie Sig: Ive been thinking about this. Ive decided that I like the Sharpie Pen sigs (only the ones from this event). The event itself was (as far as a King Super Fan is concerned) historical in that it was their last public show, and there was no organized signing. All in all there may have been less than 100 King books signed and the fact the sigs are rushed, sharpie pen (most likely the first pen King grabbed from some random table top) squiggles are appropriate. Kinda goes along with the whole "throw together" feel of the event. When I look at the sigs it reminds me of the disorganized frantic beginning experience - and all the fun that followed. Im proud to be a Rock Bottom Sharpie Sig owner!

Great collection, friend!

Not an expert of course, but I would guess the US 'Salem's Lot signature was signed by King after 1975, seeing as the "To Arthur" inscription from the book was written right before Christmas 1975. Unless the present-giver wasn't thinking clearly, I don't think someone would have write an additional inscription after the book was already signed by King.

I never had any interest in getting a King signed baseball before.....

A. Because Stephen King is not a baseball player.

and

B. Because the autographs are very difficult to authenticate.

and

C. They are usually priced higher than a signed book. ($250+)

But, today I bought this for $115 out the door.

I think it is the real deal.

Thoughts?

I don't always post as soon as I receive something new either; sometimes life gets in the way. The stuff I put up last week came in over several months, for example ... couldn't afford everything all at once, my checkbook is not so loose.

Nah when someone is classy like David he never has to worry. In fact I sent him the $250.00 I was going to send you for a copy of Prime Evil. The copy of IT was bought months ago as was From a Buick 8 (from camelot books). Should I date all my pride and joy pictures?

Little advice from a sometime Member "Freak out"? Let it go guys and move on. Nothing good ever comes from it and you will eventually regret the whole thing over time. Trust me, I know!!! Octopuss!!!!!!

I agree with you bill. I wanted to finally display some of my collection pics not get into a dispute with anyone. I have a bunch more and virtually none of them were bought over the past month so I don't understand why it's an issue.

I know this... late pics posting from ´formaly´ NEW pride and Joy´ items:tongue1:
I still have dozens sig lim and lettered books, several remarqued..... and i 'm still far behind.

Perhaps slightly overpriced for the general market, and I'm not much of a collector of ARC's, but this stayed on eBay so long, it was inevitable that I'd buy it eventually. It is the only book I've ever seen inscribed by SK to "Patrick."

I haven't taken my own photos yet, so here's a link to the closed auction (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=160827663273&si=qOHPRtFrTTEV6Ip5PHVOy0ZZiqE%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIBSA%3AUS%3A3160&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc). Thanks, Rick. As I recall, you were the one who originally pointed out the auction to me a few weeks back.

One cool thing about this seller is that rather than "Free Shipping" as Media Mail, they sent it Priority Mail w/ Delivery Confirmation and Insurance. That was a $17+ cut into their profit.

Rick, thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to receiving mine in the next couple days.

It looks like some of the authors signed right up to the edge. That might make matting a bit trickier for those who plan to matte and frame it.

I thought the lithograph would include the name of the band, maybe the two concert dates, etc.

He does have a slightly oversize head-kind of a caricature statue, but I also took the picture on a down angle. He's not my perfect image of RF, but I like the piece. It is very well painted. The buttons (I'll try for an even higher res image) are tiny, but cool.

Yes. It is a mis-bound (upside down) book that King inscribed in and wrote upside down (Fulman don't take that literally). The DJ is VG+, the book boards are VG+, but the page block is upside down. King's inscription is rather cool.
<--------------------Goes to find image, not as quick and efficient as Bob.
Therefore the book is with my King signed trades (less than 20 total).

Several in another case. I believe I own 2 DTI's and 2 DTI second editions.
Sadly I do not own a DT S/L.

You've been there.
Actually I do, AND I am using excess DTI DJ's to block sunlight form entering the window. I just taped a dozen or so. They work great.

Yes, I noticed that really keeps the sun from fading the orange dustjackets of the CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF editions you use as coasters when entertaining.

If I don't have a DTI S/L I obviously don't have a Firestarter Lettered.
I use excess copies of The Stand cases. I have an entire floor made up of the cases.
I use a proxy to sell the books that came with the wood. Every so often you might see one on ebay...

In case anyone is interested......

I got these from this site.....

http://autographedbytheauthor.com/index.php

I'm putting these on all of my signed trade editions (on the Brodart cover) so my wife doesn't just send them to Goodwill when I croak.

The main reason I bought them, is that I just bought a 1/100 FDNS BCE S/L.....and the sticker was missing.....it should look like this.....

You know, Rick. That's not a bad idea for the same reason. If you stick 'em on the Brodart it's no harm no foul!! Think I may get a roll for my 25 or so signed editions. Thanks!!

I'm going to put them on every book I own. That way when I croak (per tippy's comment), everyone will be pissed. I won't care-I'm dead.

LOL Well, I figure that since you are a year or so younger than me that I will tell the kids to bug the shit outta you when I go, that I will just sticker the real signed copies to make your job as TMIDITW that much easier!!! Of course, I will be dead and not give a shit as well, but I am a kind person in that regard!!! LOL LOL LOL

Son of a bitch!

Sample pack?!

Sample pack?!

For $4 I could have taken care of the one book I wanted to (The BCE FDNS) instead of the $30+ I spent on the roll of 1000.

Oh well...like I said, I am using them on my signed trades.

See...that's my problem...I'm never satisfied. I should be thrilled that I found the actual exact sticker I need for my book, and I am bitching about the fact I had to buy too many.

Rick, you could always go with Jerome's idea OR you could go to every local bookstore and library and sticker every copy of every Stephanie Meyer book, wait and watch as all the teenage hearts break when they open them.
