Thanks guys. Amber's been nauseous for about two weeks, so we took a home pregnancy test. Came up positive, but before I could allow myself to get too excited, we made an appointment with a doctor today to confirm the pregnancy. She took another test, came out positive again ... and then ... we did an ultrasound. I saw my baby. It moved! It's little stumpy arm things were making womb-angels! From the size and everything the doctors said Amber's about nine weeks pregnant. Ultrasound pic coming in a few hours, Amber has it at work. :)

Did anyone just bought a copy on impulse, because the picture was matching an item that you are looking for.. and there are reasons that it could very well be this item?

Well.. i just did! I saw a cover that i was hunting for a few years (i only know 2 other copies, including one that appeared about a year ago and that didnt appear on my radar..)
Now, it was a cheap copy (like 5€ +5€ shipping), sold by a professionnal so i dont see any reason why they would put a different cover from their actual book, paid by Paypal...

Crossing my fingers :)

I'm curious as to what you just bought and I hope it works out for you.

I was sort of tempted to buy this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Wind-Through-the-Keyhole-King-Stephen-/360454640219?pt=Belletristik&hash=item53ecc5525b

because the picture shows a UK proof of THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE which, supposedly, was not done. But it seems to be a stock picture and I figured it was just too good to be true.

That was the "fill-in" picture that was used (at least by Amazon) before the official cover was issued.

Yes, but in the lower right hand corner of the book in the picture (it's really small) it says "uncorrected proof."

Too small for me to read. Oh, well, I doubt it was a UK proof anyway.

Regarding my ebay item, it's something that the picture is only available on my website, and a blog of the 2nd copy i only know of..
So i dont really see how the seller would have chosen to take that picture if it's not the right one...

Time will tell!
And being off next week, i hope to recieve it then!

Upgraded my very 1st DT book: A normal beautiful Grant's first edition of The Drawing Of The Three that I bought when it came out when I was about 16 years old. For all the moves that it has been through, it is in nearly pristine shape, I'm sure that I'll keep it. I today got another first edition that Phil Hale "remarqued" by adding his signature. No, it's not one of the seven just sold by Betts, but still a nice one. I forgot how nice this book feels.

Guys?

Sorry I've been out of the loop for awhile. 88-96 hour work weeks will do that to a person. I received two books from TDT.org and have no idea why? Could someone please explain? LOL. They're amazing to me because I've always had interests in starting a collection but have never had a signed book before receiving the Woman Special Edition signed by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee from you guys. Additionally, I received a Carrie though I'm not sure of the specifics and/if it is a First Edition? It's copyright is 1974 and appears to be the original cover...

Thanks a bunch! Made my day to see this stuff. I'm excited!

May I ask how much did you pay for it?

Now that i have the item itself, i tend to think that i paid way too much.. but this is a rare item..
We were 2 ebayer fighting for the same item.. and in the end, the seller contacted me, saying that he happened to have a second one (how convenient is that?).

We respectively paid $68 (for the auction winner), and i myself paid $67+shipping.

A little trivia, the June 1991 UK paperback edition of The Dark Descent: A Fabulous, Formless Darkness by Grafton has "The Reach" by King in it, and not "Crouch End". Weird, right?

Nice additons, Ari! Especially that TWTTK book ;)

(btw, why are people quoting a previous message that is just above it, which is a bit overdone i think? no offence haha just a thought)

Brice is right - there's a lot more activity on most forums (including this one) than there is on the Dutch SK Forum for example, so if you reply without quote it may get confusing when many people are posting at the same time.

I know other forums where it is not done to quote the actual last previous post, but I have no problem if people do so.

Here's my latest - not sure why this book doesn't get much love. I know anthologies are not everyone's cup of tea, but there are only 150 numbered copies of the Artist Edition signed by King, so it is a pretty small limitation. There isn't even a catalog entry for this book...but I will take care of that :-)

And.. here 's what i was excited by last week!

A french review copy of BAG OF BONES! Usually french review copy/proofs are pretty rare, and i have one of most of the recent books.
Why is this one particularly interesting? First, i know of 2 other copies (the other review copies i have, i only know of... MY copies), but this one has Stephen King's letter reprinted with his picture on the front.
The letter, which as far as i remember is a translation of an english letter.. but slightly adapted, as it is dedicated to "My bookseller friend,..."

Ok, time for pictures !
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/collection-herbertwest/sac-d-os__sp/photo1.jpg
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/collection-herbertwest/sac-d-os__sp/photo2.jpg

Not on the perfect state, but... for the rarity and the price (about 10€, shipping included), i cannot complain !

What a great year! I already found 2 of the rare items i was hunting for years :
-this one
-and the first ever print of Stephen King in french : an "abridged" version of CARRIE, in the french Cosmopolitan, in 1976!

Thanks to everybody for their congrats. I'm actually loathe to frame and hang it, as much as I'd love to - I live in a studio apartment so other than the bathroom it's one big room. And the three walls suitable for hanging pictures all get their fair share of the suns rays at various times of the day. I'd be worried about UV damage to the print.

30 Anni. Hamburg Comic festival.

I meet again Levin Kurio, he is the founder and owner
and the writer and illustrator for several Weissblech - Horror Comics.
He remembered me from our last meetings, last time he offered me for free this ´rehearsal´ Zombie paniting.

This time we talked a lot about... Comics.... Horror and Stephen King.
He doodled and signed me this German Horror Comic

Derber Trash 1 / Rough Trash

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/742/medium/PICT4263.JPG

I asked Levin if it´s possible that he maybe drawed something SPECIAL.
We talked a little bit... and then he started to draw his full page version of....

CELL´s Raggedy Man from Levin Kurio
In his interpretation, he still looks relatively good.

Interesting and unexpected package arrived in the mail yesterday. Large (29" x 21") print.....I initially thought it was the original art because the print quality is really good. Charcoal and colored pencil (I am guessing at the medium) drawing by Drew Struzen. Judging from the signatures and dates it seems to be a gift from Struzen to Frank Darabont in 2004, perhaps on the 10th anniversary of the movie since Struzen writes "Happy Anniversary". Darabont has, in turn, gifted it to Jerad Walters in 2009, judging from his inscription. There is another signature under the image of Tim Robbins that I guess is Robbins dated 2009. I guess now I should track down Morgan Freeman to get him to sign it.

I'm not sure what I will do with it. It is really pretty large and I have no more wall space. Very nice gift though.

Really awesome!! The paper looks thin in this picture, perhaps you should have it framed to protect it?

I am certain Bob will have it framed...and elegantly at that.

Go look through his thread and you will see what is probably THE most incredible King collection.

That is awesome, Bob! And yes, you need to track down Mr. Freeman to sign.

Got my first proof yesterday, Rose Madder. I know it's not at the top of anyone's list but I'm still glad to have it.

Next, I found some playboys with King stories. June 83, Sept 94, and 2x Jan. 83

I also got a Signed First Franklin Library ed. of Death Is A Lonely Business by Bradbury. It's really nice, I found a huge collection of Franklin Library books at an antique store. They didn't have any of the "key" signed limited ones, but they had some good titles.

I recently got Clint Hill to sign my copy of 11.22.63. Thought it might be neat to have an actual participant in the event - and the last living person from the JFK limo - to autograph it. The 50th anniversary is coming up in '13. Almost anyone associated with this event will be gone soon.

Local bookstore has received an influx of Sci-Fi/Horror/etc. books from a huge collection whose owner recently passed away. I am doing my best to play it cool, but I did pick up some older Grant titles (Bowl of Baal is actually a Father's Day gift from my wife). They have more, but their pricing is all over the map, but I'll keep checking back in as they put more stock on the shelves:

Related to my new Grant books from post number 13282 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?377-Your-New-Pride-and-Joy!&p=707245&viewfull=1#post707245), I paid a visit to the bookstore and picked up this beauty today:

http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/5498/001nmg.jpg

If you don't recognize it, the main interesting facts about it are that it was the first title published by Donald M. Grant in 1964 and was limited to 1,000 copies. It seems to be in excellent shape. Also, it is signed/inscribed by the editor:

http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/6059/002zw.jpg

The reason it signed is because it was purchased directly from the editor, Henry Hardy Heins, and I know that because the book also had a laid in letter explaining as much. For those of you complaining about delays in receiving TWWTK, you might be heartened to hear that this is not a new phenomenon, because Grant's very first book was significantly delayed as well:

The delays have been many and frustrating for over a year now, but this spring it finally looked as though the month of June would see the book's publication... Then things bogged down again, and here we are a month late already on that.

The letter is dated July 8, 1964 and the Copyright page does in fact read "Complete Edition, Revised: June, 1964".

http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/2140/003khd.jpg

The inscription gives the identity of the book collector whose books I have been acquiring. Dr. Robert E. Briney passed away in November, 2011. From an obit I found online:

Bob's avocations, however, were in the fields of mystery writing, science fiction and fantasy. A freelance writer and editor, he contributed to numerous publications including Classical Outlook, The Armchair Detective and the Journal of Popular Culture. In 1970 he took over as editor/publisher of The Rohmer Review and contributed to many other journals and publications over the course of his life. He was a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Science Fiction Research Association.

Interestingly, he and I both have degrees in Mathematics. I got mine at Harvard, and he got his at MIT, but I won't hold that against him.

If I had not been there and seen them signed myself...I would call them "questionable" signatures.

The Gunslinger (IMO) has the nicer signature of the two.....which makes me glad since it is a valuable book.

I have no intention of selling either....so it really does not matter.

Heres what I got signed at the M&G last night. The King signatures are probably the WORST signatures in my collection but as Tippy4 said they were done in person and I dont plan on selling so whatever. The first one is WTTKH. I had it opened to the title page but the lady we handed our books to changed the page to the first blank one. Irritating.

Good job everyone! How/when did he sign books?

Well, he came out about 15-20 mins before the end of the M&G in a wall off corner (sorts of I guess it was more an alcove created by the room surrounding 2 step raised platfporm for seating) and signed like we were all gathered on the steps of a dugout during a BB game. The 'Handler" was strict, and sometimes rude. The best was to lean over the platform wall and circumvent her. as I and several others did. Having an enormous reach was quite an advantage!!!

If only we didn't get the flat!!!! Note to self: Always have a AAA guy along for book signings!!! LOL

Awesome signatures guys.

Yeah I'd never sell a signature I got in person either. For that reason, I'd be in two minds as to what book I'd want signed. Do you go for something that would become valuable (despite the whole never sell statement above) or do you go for a book that means something to you to begin with? I guess I'd choose one of each if ever given the opportunity :-)

Personally its always favorite books first. After those next up are the ones that dramatically increase in value when signed. And after that next up is rarity though maybe not too valuable to other collectors. The UK Trade 1st of Book of Horrors was in that last category for me.
