Mr Rabbit Trick, I looked and looked, and I can't figure out where you see Leonardo Dicaprio in that.

Leonardo:

That's not what I was trying to show. I specifically asked for Val Kilmer as Doc and I think he did a pretty damn close interpretation. I included the Leo and Val pictures because they were both from Westerns. That's the only western Leonardo has made, that I'm aware of, hence the youthfulness of it.

I'm not trying to have a flame war, just don't see the Leo. Have you seen Tombstone?

I got my signed Lisey's Story from PS Publishing today. I know...it is a 3rd printing...but I don't think I'll ever find a signed SK book for 39 pounds again:

When I saw the picture I immediately thought "Val Kilmer form Tombstone." It just jumps off the page.

For what that's worth.

Agreed...to me, that was always Val Kilmer in Tombstone...anyone who'd seen the movie would know that instantly.

If you had NOT seen the movie, then it's open to interpretation.

Looks nothing like Leo, looks everything like the pic of Kilmer in the western.

Nice price on the signed Lisey's, I got the US edition signed in London as I figured there'd be less US ones signed, I got a UK one signed at another signing. Then I read the story and hated it so I didn't want the signed UK one anymore so swapped it with someone on here for a signed Haven book - cant remember whether it was Hearts or Tom Gordon, I have both of them from Haven.

Is it TOOOOOO stupid to buy a book just because the signature is in a different color?:tongue1:

I think: NO NO NO NO NO.
Bought some signed limited Ray Bradbury books, among them was:

Ray Bradbury Feuersäule

limited 15+20/250 signed by Ray Bradbury and Lillian Mousli. PUBLISHER: EDITION PHANTASIA
Only the first 50 of the 250 are signed. Feuersäule is an shortstory collection,
and it is the only available German language sig lim book from Ray Bradbury.
All books are signed from Ray Bradbury in BLUE, now i found nr. 20 with RED signature.

This is my ´old´ sig lim book with normal blue signatur from Ray Bradbury

(Restart from my collection thread. Just uploaded 260 pics, there are still 50-100 old pics from my collection thread missing. Alternately i will now show older-missing pics and new stuff) I hope it works:panic:

Not sure if this quaifies as an "awesome deal", but it was a good one for sure.

This item arrived today......

DARK TOWER 6 ARC with PROMO MATERIAL (http://www.ebay.com/itm/220994347527#ht_500wt_1188)

I had a feeling that the card in the picture was signed on the back (I have seen several of them in the past....none have not been signed), and decided to take a chance. That chance paid off....it's got an original King signature.

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/1000/cardzq.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/696/cardzq.jpg/)

The seller made a point of saying he was NOT going to go into a long winded description....I am glad he did not...someone else might have snapped up the BIN before I saw it if he had.

I'm not sure about the signature on the piece of paper that states "With compliments of The author"....I think it is a photo copy.

I think the item is worth at least 50% more than I paid for it.

Original poster from King's appearance April 1, 1987, at Boston University-Morse Auditorium. According to one guest: "I attended this appearance by Stephen King at which he discussed writing fiction in general, writing horror fiction, his work and books, and then there was a question-and-answer period where King answered questions from the audience. But my most vivid memory of his appearance was that the auditorium was packed with students and teachers and others, and it was hotter than hell in the auditorium, and Stephen King took out a nice, cold can of beer from the breast pocket of his sport jacket, opened it up, took a couple of swigs, and placed the can of beer on the podium!".

Congratulations all!

The Hyperion saga isn't an easy saga to read. You have to enjoy sci fi, and be very patient and give the book more attention than other books probably. The first time I started it I stopped reading it after 50 pages more or less, but then, a couple of months later, I started it again and read it continuously the four books + the short story, and it was a wonderful saga. The ending of the 2nd volume is one of the best endings I ever read. The third volume (Endymion) is the easiest one to read, and the fourth one might be the one I enjoyed the least, but still a good book. Nevertheless, as I mentioned before, is not an easy book to read and many agree that it's a forgetable book.

I've just received this (again....for free), a week prior its publication.

All the reviews I read about the Hyperion series seemed to be either love it or hate it. I think that's why I didn't jump on the limited even though I do really love that art. I didn't want to be one of the "hated its". Maybe I'll Kindle it. The story does sound very interesting to me anyway.

It looks soiled in the photo but it's not (it's just a crappy pic). It's actually a pretty nice copy with the glue wrinkle that's often found in older proofs, and some creases here and there:

Just a little placeholder and a teaser that I will soon be receiving three new King S/Ls for my collection! One is pretty common, one is fairly rare but not especially sought after (but I love the book and that's what counts!) and one is, for many people, the Big Kahuna!

Arrived today! A S/L Gunslinger. #196

Nicer condition than I ever could have hoped (DJ spine somewhat faded but otherwise F/F) and I'm very pleased with the price I paid.

I could be mistaken but I believe Patrick had a crack at this before I was able to acquire it. And for whatever reason he passed it up. I'd always be willing for a straight-up trade (and I have a non-spine-faded DJ I could marry to it), or even a sale. Let me put it this way--I'd never stand between someone and a same-number set if I can help it, and I wouldn't try to jack someone on the price.

Yesterday was in my hometown the main German World book night event. Several authors (Charlotte Roche/Wetlands), Actors

From the one million special produced free books in Germany some leftover, and they give them away yesterday. I pick up a handful of books:
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/742/medium/PICT1164.JPG

Kressmann Taylor - Address Unknown
Siegfried Lenz - Schwigeminute-Minute of silence
Mascha Kaléko - In meinen Träumen läutet es Sturm
Robert Harris - Ghost
Tad Williams + Deborah Beale - Die Drachen der Tinkerfarm/The Dragons of the Ordinary Farm

Promotion Pins - Lesefreund

Sadly, Stephen King was not one of the 25 selected authors,
´only´:
Jane Austen, Umberto Eco, Hans Fallada, Nick Hornby,
Siegfried Lenz......

Thanks for your honest post, Brice. I'm not absolutely crazy about all my work either--I think it's the way art goes. Some of the pieces I'm not too fond of, other folks like best; drawings near and dear to my heart are not always the ones received most warmly by others. I never know how it will go...it keeps things exciting.

I said it in the Complete Sets thread, but I'm very happy that this book is in the hands of a fellow TDT.org member and collector. I was given 'first right of refusal' from the member who owned it for a short time before divemaster. It was a fair offer, but the market price of a GUNSLINGER S/L simply wasn't within my budget. I'll admit, it wasn't easy to resist the temptation to put it on a credit card.

My new pride and joy is shown below (Desperation and Regulators ShrinkWrapped with attached Wizard and Glass Sampler). Can anyone who has a set like this confirm that this looks legit (sampler affixed to the outside of the shrinkwrap with double sided tape)? Thanks.

As far as I know, the sampler was NEVER attached to the package. Actually, the sampler was supposed to be given to those who missed out on the package when they bought one each of the Desperation and Regulators.

Brice

Yes, the samplers were not attached. The bookstores received them separately. I was in our local waldenbooks when they were unpacked. They were sent seperately after the booklights sold out.

Robert Fulman
05-04-2012, 04:10 PM
In that case, I don't feel bad that the tape is losing its sticking power (it's still adhered to the skrinkwrap, but it's mostly [cleanly] detached from the sampler). I now have three samplers, but this is my first copy, each, of Desperation and Regulators. Thanks for the info.

This next one is a REAL Pride and Joy. This is a SIGNED Artist Edition of Wind Through the Keyhole. CHECK OUT THE DATE IT WAS SIGNED...February 10, 2012, fully 2 weeks BEFORE the book was released. I guarantee you will not find an earlier signature. KelLee Larson was Karen's predecessor at Grant Books. This is the 5th book I have inscribed to KelLee...A bit of Dark Tower trivia some of you may not know...KelLee was employed at Grant at the time Wizard & Glass was published. As you may recall from the book...Susan and Roland pass each other notes secretly in the story. The handwriting that appears in the book for the notes written by Susan to Roland is...none other than KelLee Larson. My Wizard & Glass is inscribed to KelLee and Susan.

So does King still think that KelLee (yes that is how she spells her name) works at DMG?

There will be more paintings from Ned in the near future.....I think that the plan is that he is going to take ten images from of the "21 remarque series" and do paintings based on them. I don't think they will be quite as large going forward.

Coming to me in the mail. There are only 2 of the cases in existence. They look (in the picture) like they might be fabric, but they are custom formed for a block of aluminum-literally carved out. They are HEAVY, and the metal "feels" like gunmetal-I held one before the image was put on the side. Another cool feature is that the case is split along the top, back and bottom, and can be slid open to display the book. There is an inside (not where it would harm the book) rail.
When I receive it I will take additional pictures.

There is the possibility for 4 more cases. The limitation has to do with the actual amount of aluminum purchased to make these-it was one huge slab, and evidently there is some raw material left.

Here's my latest purchase. Certainly not one of the most desirable S/L Editions out there, but I bought it for two reasons - 1) It was from Rocky Wood's collection, so hopefully he can use the money towards his medical bills, and 2) You just don't see them for sale anywhere. There are none on eBay or ABE as far as I can tell, and David doesn't have any either. So it may not have a ton of monetary value, but it nice to check another off the list:
