Thanks to Jerome (image from the Internet, not my actual copy):

Not a numbered, lettered or presentation copy - simply a very nice little book! Could be classified as 'out of series', I guess.

I originally saw this set on this forum, did a little digging and found this set for a really good deal. Bad part is that I got a good deal because this set doesnt have the slipcase. Oh well, they are still really beautiful books.

So this is not a NEW pride and joy.....I've actually had it since 1977....but I have not seen it in years and thought it was lost. I found it today while going through a box of keepsakes.

When I was six years old, my grandmother saw an article in a Chicago newspaper that Warner Bros. was looking for a boy with a midwest accent for a new movie they were making called The Shining. So, she sent my picture in, and I received a letter for a casting interview.

According to the below article, I was one of 300 that were called in.

Received in December or the first week of January:
IT - Limited Edition
The Big Book of Necon - Deluxe Artists Edition
11-22-63 - UK Limited Edition
Thinner - Proof w/letter
Gerald's Game - advanced copy with cardboard slipcase
My Pretty Pony - trade
Wizard and Glass - Grant Trade
The Drawing of the Three - Grant Trade
Song of Susannah - Artist Edition
The Green Mile - Gift Edition
J. N. Williamson's Illustrated Masques - Limited Edition

Now this isn't a gold mine of books, but for me this is probably the biggest haul of King book that I have received in a month period in about 4 years. The last 4 years I've been selling, not buying. So it feels good to get new books and some old books that I sold a few years ago that I now have back in my collection.

Congrats with the win!

After saying that, this was the first year I did not watch a single college bowl game. The first time ever this has happened. But I think I've gotten to the point where I think the bowls are just a waste of time. With no playoffs it keeps getting harder every year to take college football seriously. Boise State which arguably could have beaten any of the teams in the BCS games was regulated to play Arizona State who was 6-6. Get real, College football is just all about money.

My last Christmas gift was an Amazon.com gift certificate that I spent on the signed limited edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' romantic play "You Lucky Girl!", published by Grant Books in 1999. Part of the reason I like "The Waste Lands" so much is Ned Dameron's superior artwork, and that's the primary reason I decided on this particular book.

http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/548/021guh.jpg

I really like his bold signature, as well. (The ERB "signature" is actually a stamped fascimile; he died in 1950):

By the way, if people aren't aware, a significant number of Grant books are available on Amazon.com (sold by Amazon, not in the Marketplace), usually at 25% off list price. I feel a little bad about not ordering direct from Grant, but the discount and free shipping are hard to resist.

I (we) must find a way to display this. It is an absolutely beautiful production and the quality of the material is second-to-none. I've seen the pics of your display area, you've got room right on the top of several bookcases! We just need to find a stand or some other contraption to hold it up!

It absolutely deserves to be displayed!

Tom - Tell us more about your project - what do you have up your sleeve??

Well i have been writing on and off for the past 14 months or so (the doc said it might help with the depression) and have completed 125,000 words of a novel but that was getting, i don't know, big and i felt i needed time away from it to make sure that i did justice to the final quater. So i decided to write a smaller story and i came up with one that is approx 16,000 words called 'The Cows Are Coming'.

My girlfriend and her friend are completing the final edit at the moment and Glenn has kindly completed the artwork, so i thought why not make a few hard copies. There is a printer in the town that i live in that i think will do a good job and then i will give them out to friends, maybe ask for a donation towards the Haven Fund!?

I'll take one! Just tell me how much, when you want it & where to send it! I agree with Shannon - will you sign it for me?

Me too. I want a S/L!!!

I think that french proofs are only a 'handful'. I asked the publisher if he could tell me how much they are printing of those, still no answer.

So far i got a french proof for every single publication since Duma Key.
That means :
- Blaze
- Duma Key
- Just after sunset
- Dome (2 books)
- JAS

I am still pissed off that i missed a french proof of BAG OF BONES off ebay about a year and half ago. It didnt appear in my alerts...

______

Not MY acquisition, but it's still in the family.

My girlfriend moved out from Scotland two years ago to join me in France, and more precisely in Paris. She is looking for a job in fashion.
Although it's not a job in fashion that she got (so far), it's still promising :

- First, i did revamped and redesigned her website.. to be more "PRO" : http://www.lauramoodley.com/ Online since last week, perfect timing for :
- HER FASHION AWARD ! Last night there was a fashion show & contest organised by a recruitment agency in luxe/ fashion.
She WON THE AWARD (Grey Fashion Awards), among about 40 contestants and yesterday there were 5 collections being shown !

I hope that it will open her new opportunities! Yesterday afternoon, some people already offered her to buy her collection.
If anyone is interested, someone shot a video and did put it on youtube (my pictures were unfortunately rubbish, but we should be getting professional pictures from the journalists!)

Thanks, Bob. According to the seller, it was bought new when it came out and read once (by him) and he clearly took good care of the book. He has an equally nice copy of NIGHT SHIFT for sale but that one's too expensive for me right now. Starting bid $800, with reserve (his reserve price is reasonable, by the way).

I think it was RF who alerted the forum to this unusual item on eBay a few weeks ago. I bought one and after our stellar postal service creased the first one I now have a nice copy. It is a repro of the photo shown at the end of Kubrick's version of THE SHINING. I have no idea what I will do with this (no more room to hang stuff on the walls) but I do like it and it is one of my favorite scenes from the movie. Pretty nice quality photo with good detail. I like it.

With and without flash.

I have been told that the print run of the french proof (of FDNS at least), should be of 250 copies. I wonder if this is the print run of all the proofs... but it surprises me that it's so much, as i have only seen a few go for sale.
Except mine, i only know of 2 french proofs :
- 2 copies of BAG OF BONES, with the reprint of King's letter on the cover. 1 is owned by a friend, the second one... i totally missed the ebay listing !
- 1 copy of BLAZE, that i bought off ebay.. and recieved it damaged : someone at the post office had used a knife or something to check my package and it got quite damaged...

Hey Secret Santa, Christmas give-away guy otherwise known as Scott landon.
I am very impressed and incredibly appreciative. The book is more than I expected and the fold-puts -- what can I say. I spent the entire afternoon last Saturday VERY carefully looking through everything. Each picture is a journey through the memories of the books I've read and enjoyed so much. By the care you took in packing and sending the slip-cased "Knowing Darkness" I can tell you are a "gourmand" of books and collections. I'm not sure what motivated you to give away this item but I am very glad and look forward to "paying it forward". I never considered myself particularly lucky but in this case -- WOW!
Thank you very much.

So, I bought the limited edition of a book called "The Constitution of the United States of America" by Sam Fink. The book is actually a collection of 65 prints on very heavy paper contained in a traycase. The limitation page is on of the prints contained in the lid of the traycase:

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/1166/055rb.jpg

Here is one of the prints:

http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/4994/054ho.jpg

And here is the closed traycase, next to what used to be my largest book:

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/826/056vw.jpg

The list price is $500, but I bought it new on Amazon for $27 last week. That must have triggered something, because some time in the last week they raised the price to $382 (http://www.amazon.com/Constitution-United-States-America-Limited/dp/1599620162/). It's too bad, because I was planning to buy more, but I wanted to check out one before I bought a bunch.

Also, I bought three books from PS Publishing's 3-traycases for 50 pounds promotion. I asked if I could request titles, and they told me to name 6 and they's try to pick three from there. The three titles I got were:

http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5453/057uuu.jpg

In case anyone is wondering, they list Horns by Joe Hill as available in the promotion (and their inventory system says they still have 23 of them), but I would go with the assumption that they won't be sending out many/any of them.

(My first four traycases, all in one day :) )

What the hell are you going to do with that thing? It must weigh 50 pounds, easy! That is one big ol' honkin traycase!!!!

Hey, don't know why but the minuteman running reminded me of the old Schoolhouse Rock "We the People" cartoon .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30OyU4O80i4 ... everybody sing along, you know you know it !!!!! Minutemen at 59 seconds!

I was trying to decide if I wanted to go with this deal or the 8 book grab bag for £35. I see Horns listed as well, but I agree with you that they probably would not send that one out too often.

I only recently decided to look for nice copies of the early paperback 1st printings and I was lucky to find this one.

I found the Signet CARRIE on ABE for $17!
