We thought that the podcast was lost due to technical problems... but the team managed to save it!

So, here is the link, although it is in french :

Well, I am still continuing to get back old King Limiteds that I used to own. so i'm keeping with my collecting goal of 2011.

This time I got back my pristine copy of Grant's S/L Christine. Oh, And here's an awesome deal I'll share. Back in 2002 I was able to get a set of Dark Tower S/Ls (1-4) for $7000.00

Got that one beat. I bought my matched Dark Tower S/Ls 1-4 in the summer of 2002 for $4,500.00, plus the cost of lunch. The seller happened to be from the town where I was going to school and agreed to drive out and hand-deliver the books, so I bought her and her husband lunch and drinks, which cost me about $50.00, so I guess that makes $4,550.00 ;-)

Picked this up a few days ago. I consider it the "Holy Grail" of Tim Powers collecting. The Book is Last Call. 26 Lettered copies were Printed by Charnel House. Here is a description:
LAST CALL by Tim Powers lettered edition published by Charnel House!

This is considered by many to be the holy grail of small press horror collectors. It very very rarely comes up for sale and is felt by many collectors to be the most beautiful book published in the 20th century.

The tarot card that is bound into the cover of this book is of the LOVERS and making it an even more sought after of the 26 produced. This is letter "I" of 26 lettered edition. Book is in fine unread condition.

If interested I can send you more photos of this unique exotic item.

Hand sewn
Illustrated with tarot cards by Peter Richardson which were set in borders by J.K. Potter
Text has been typeset from the authors original manuscript and printed on Mohawk Superfine
Illustrations are printed on Vintage Gloss
Bound in full hunter green Morocco leather
22kt. gold stamped spine
Each copy has a tarot card inlayed above two poker chips from the Flamingo Hotel & Casino embedded in the front board
Endleaves are uncut sheets of one dollar bills and the limitation sheet is made from uncut sheets of two dollar bills from the U.S. mint.
Signed by the Author

This is my most recent picture of some of my collection.
There are some recent acquisitions in the bookcase shown, I will be posting additional pics if I can get a collection thread ?
Help anybody !
We have been swapping and painting rooms, not an easy task.

Please please tell me that those Gunslingers are protected with dustcover jackets!! :scared:

I have 3 gunslingers, 2 are protected, the 3rd will be after today... funny how things lead to another.
Yesterday I made a run to Powell's in Portland to pick up some badly needed jacket protectors & as luck would have it I found an absolute mint US 1st trade Firestarter.
I'll show it after I get my thread up (sounds sorta weird)

I pulled the shrink-wrap off of my Waste Lands tonight (there was a small tear in the DJ, which I'm going to replace). Anyway, inside the book was a little Grant Books pamphlet and order form offering "more tales of horror and fantasy". I amso easy to please.

I know exactly that feeling, my wife thinks I'm so weird.
The real question is, how did the book smell ? :D

Ok. Here is the story. I ordered a S/L of The Girl Next Door that had the Lettered signature page bound in. It also came with a red slipcase, and a letter of "providence" from The Overlook Connection. I liked the look of the case for the true lettered edition, so I had Dolso make me one.

I have posted in the past a couple of pieces that Zach McCain did for me of "Oy" and "Jake & Oy" and that I purchased a sketchbook from him that had around 40 preliminary drawings he has done for different small press horror books he did artwork for. A bit ago he offered me some more drawings for a reasonable price, I received 2 packages with the art today and it was 40 more drawings but this time they were not preliminary drawings but the final pencil/ink drawings that were then scanned and then colored. I am shocked/amazed there are at least 6 full covers and the rest fully realized interior pieces. Here are just 3 pieces, these being 3 of the actual covers, since they are pencil they are hard to photograph (or more likely I just suck at picture taking)

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/zachsamples.jpg

They are mostly this size (10 X 15), and all 40 drawings are of this caliber of detail.

He also is doing a painting for me that I think will be his best work yet, probably be a while yet before it is done.

I want to say thats from "The Ghosting Tide" by Simon Clark published by Bad Moon Books. It looks a lot less like a Dark Tower piece when coloured.... if I'm right.

EDIT: Yup, I was right. The other two are "Sparrow Rock" by Nate Kenyon and "Lord of the Lash" by Weston Ochse - both also by BMB.

Description

The Woman is the powerful story of the last survivor of a feral tribe of cannibals who have terrorized the east coast from Maine into Canada for years now. Badly wounded in a battle with police, she takes refuge in a cave overlooking the sea. Christopher Cleek is a slick, amoral -- and unstable -- country lawyer who, out hunting one day, sees her bathing in a stream. Fascinated, he follows her to her cave. Cleek has many dark secrets and to these he'll add another. He will capture her, lock in his fruit cellar, and tame her, civilize her. To this end he'll enlist his long-suffering wife Belle, his teenage son and daughter Brian and Peg, and even his little girl Darlin', to aid him. So the question becomes, who is more savage? The hunter or the game?

Fascinating production! So is it real HUMAN bone or a bone from another animal? It looks too small to be adult human.
I have been assured by the publisher that the bone is a real human rib bone. I didn't look yet, but he states that the limitation page states the letter of the book, and what bone is attached.

gosh damn you RF...
You just had to post that... now I'M about $1300.00 poorer....
I love Ketchum's warped writing.

It's definitely a book we'll get ribbed about for paying that much.:P

they could have improved on it in one way though... they should have attached the rib bone to the book spine.
singing...
rib bone's connected to... the spine bone
spine bones connected to the... back bone...

this is definitely a top shelf book.... gonna have to keep it out of the puppy's reach.

Not sure if I've digested it yet, really don't know what to think of the bone thing.

My rib bones could only be used for skeleton crew...and...
after I die (and only after)... I am for sure going to have my penis skinned and used to bind/make a very limited edition of Secretary of Dreams (to be renamed "SectofTerry that Creams")

You rub the cover and the short stories will turn into full length novels.

Do see one problem though... the longer you hold and read the book... the harder it will get to read.

and the ending will always leave you feeling deflated and wanting a cig.

Yes, great copy Michaël. I know I need to start upgrading some of my first editions, but when there is so much stuff out there I want that I don't already have, its hard to make upgrades a priority. However, seeing something of this calibre is a good reminder of the benefits of upgrading....

Yeah, it took me some time before deciding/realizing that I want the core of my collection to be full sets of US and UK 1st trade editions with the books in the best condition possible/affordable. Sounds so simple but it's really not! Everything else is a bonus and not a priority. Of course I do look out for other stuff and some of it is scarce, so I grab it when the opportunity arises. But upgrading is now my main focus. Almost done with the UK books, then I'll move on to the US books.

I would like to thank everyone who has recently purchased copies of THE WOMAN lettered edition.

A little about me. I've been publishing now for nearly a decade and have produced somewhere around 75 limited edition hardcover edition and 45 lettered editions under various imprints (Bloodletting Press, Morning Star, Cargo Cult, Arcane Wisdom and Infernal House). Of all my imprints I love Infernal House the most. Infernal House has now been publishing for two years and we've published three titles. DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN by Brian Keene, HAUNTER OF THE THRESHOLD by Edward Lee and THE WOMAN by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. Our 4th title will be THE LIGHT IS THE DARKNESS by Laird Barron and the lettered edition will be something amazing indeed. I've always been inspired by Charnel House lettered editions and with each edition we produce my attempt is to meet or exceed the exotic nature of the Charnel House masterpieces that have become the standard to beat and in most cases at half the cost.

For example Darkness on the Edge of Town had hand maid acrylic teeth embedded in the boards and was bound twice, first in goat and then in calf to give the book the depth that was required to give the mouth and teeth the appearance that it was reaching for you in the darkness. With each page the text blocks were in the form of an open mouth, so like the protagonist in the story, monsters with teeth were coming at you with each turn of the page.

Our second title, Haunter of the Threshold was bound in goat and python and hand 22k gilding on the foredge and original art bound into the trycase along with many other extras.

Once I have my five posts in I'll post some pictures.

Thanks again for your support and I look forward to being a regular member of this fine forum.

All the best
Larry Roberts

I may not be able to afford some of the books he envisions, but based upon one book I purchased from Larry, Charnel House has new competition for the most unique and well crafted books in the world.

Thanks Richard. We produce about 20 or more limited editions a year many of them with lettered edition that are not as exotic as the Infernal House titles but beautiful nonetheless.

For example here is a few pictures of SEX, DEATH AND HONEY lettered edition that was only $250. It was bound in silk with calf skin spine and with with garter belt for a belly band and a silk bra strap for the sewn in bookmark.

Just got in a copy of the gift edition of Grant's 1984 edition of The Talisman. I'm not going to post pictures as it's the same edition most of you have seen, but I have to give a nod to Tony and Kim from Camelot Books. I lost my original copy of The Talisman in a fire and had been keeping an eye out for a replacement. I just couldn't bring myself to pay the $200.00 - $300.00 that most sellers demand for a copy of the gift edition as I purchased a PC copy of the S/L a few years back for $300.00 (it had some imperfections: there was an ink smudge on the back of volume one that I was able to completely remove using an art eraser; it was also missing the paste-down on volume one and the one on volume two was scratched, neither of which bothered me as I have a bunch of spare paste-downs from Grant; if you ever have to replace a paste-down on one of those, just know that they come off with relative ease and leave no residue behind so long as you peel them off with slow, steady pressure).

Anyways, I got an e-mail from Camelot Books indicating that they had two copies of The Talisman, one with a bump to the slipcase and volume one, and another in fine condition, both for a very reasonable price. I was replacing the gift edition just to fill the hole in my collection and not because of some huge love I have for that edition (as I said, I have a S/L as well as the Artists' Edition with all of the artists' signatures), so I figured that the bumped copy with its price tag half that of the fine copy would do just fine. Unfortunately, volume one was not only bumped but also had a binding defect where the page block had come separated from the spine. I had seen this once before on one of the signed/limiteds and knew that the cost to fix it would be more than the book was worth considering the bump. I e-mailed Tony from Camelot about the issue and explained that I realized that they probably focused so much on the bump that they never noticed the binding issue (it's only visible once you open the book past the first few pages). I asked him to set up a return and indicated that I would use the credit towards the fine copy.

Tony e-mailed me back apologizing profusely and acknowledged that it was his oversight. He then made me an offer that I couldn't refuse: I send him back the damaged copy and he sends me a fine copy and just calls it even, no additional money required. Needless to say, I accepted and now have a fine, bump-free copy with no binding issues that I received at a price pretty close to Grant's original 1984 issue price.

I've dealt with Tony and Kim several times over the years and have never had a problem until now. Given the nature of the issue and how easy it is to overlook, I wasn't even upset, just disappointed. Still, Tony went above and beyond my expectations in resolving the issue. It is certainly refreshing to see that there are still booksellers out there who take customer service seriously and who are willing to go far beyond what is necessary to fix an issue.

Wait, are you telling me that my girlfriend won't be convinced when I tell her these were acquired for bibliographical purposes?

Don't know but I'd really like to read that last magazine.

For real though, are those stories collected anywhere?

Most of them are collected in NIGHT SHIFT. I just like the idea of having King publications from before anyone knew him.

My wife bought me the Marge Simpson Playboy, cos it had Marge in it, and then i noticed it had a King story too!

I know a local seller with one as well. She's going to place it on Ebay for $325.

It will be interesting to see if anyone takes it at that price. Maybe.....Maybe not. We will see.

Cook, I feel your pain, I'm on the waiting list also. But, to be fair, I only heard about this about two weeks ago lol.

But I have my Super Secret Shannon ways of getting what I want ... So, if and when I show up with a book, don't hate me! :)

RF, I like that shirt, may I ask where you got it from?

Got some stuff today ... Some Audiobook Cassettes and ... dah dah daaaaaahhhhhhh ... my Ned Dameron remarqued US 1st Edition Waste Lands (you weren't lying when you said you were a super packager! Thanks again Tippster!) Will post more pics (I love pics) in my collection thread later, and I'm still sorting/listing/noting condition/taking pictures of my 30+ magazines I received yesterday, so those will come either later today or tomorrow.

I got something pretty cool in the mail today which has been about a month and a half in the making. How are your supersleuth abilities? In the finest teaser tradition, over the next few days I'll post some partial photos; see if you can guess what it is. Warning: All is not as it appears to be.

I know what it is, obviously. Too easy.

You went back in time and had baby Stephen King draw a picture, therefore owning the very first piece of Stephen King item available to the public.

Sorry to ruin it for everyone else, I just couldn't help myself.

Does anyone one the original cost of W&G? The Catalog entry does not say.

I am still interested in the answer to that. Collectors-help please.

I don't know if this was answered, but it was 100 pounds.

Wizard and Glass, (Aug 1997, Stephen King, publ. Hodder & Stoughton, 0-340-71293-7, £100.00, xvi+672pp, hc)

And nice on the lettered Ed Lee Jerome!

And Hi Larry, nice to see you here. As well as a Stephen King forum it houses an excellent collecting forum!
