My latest purchase arrived today, sadly, I'm away so I had the wife send me a few pics. I was torn the day I bought it because part of me wanted a BlackHouse proof but at the last minute I went with this one. As always I love anything free, so seeing that the guy sent his red slipcase that he made for the book, even though he did not mention it in the ad, made me smile. Can't wait to get home and see it up close.

Its tough to get a hold of as there are tons of export editions and BCA's out there. I think the size is the easiest to identify as its bigger than the BC editions and of course has the price on the DJ

Just received from an ebay buy (unrated seller but the book came in 2 days!) the Subterranean Press edition of Stephen King Goes To The Movies.

Nice hardcover for £15($23). The old style movie theme running throughout is really nice, even the colors used for the boards and type etc are good so it's a quality production. Of course it's not essential (little new content) but if you can find it for a good price it's worth picking up, plus I find it cool flicking through the extras page at the back and seeing how many people off of here I can spot!.

http://i35.tinypic.com/amzf2h.jpg

I also got recently slip-cased edition of Stephen King Uncollected Unpublished for £16($25) and the Stephen King Bibliography for £9($14).

I guess most people don't buy these type (like mostly 'King related' books with little new content by King himself) of books as you can always find them for a good price a few months later.

Really? I guess I'm a bit confused. I searched and searched for a UK first (actually the first four are a bit confusing). Since you're from the U.K. (right?) maybe you can educate me. My W&G is bigger than what I have been told were BCA or Export Editions and it has the 10 to 1 number line and "First Published in Great Britain, 1997", but now that I check no price on the DJ.

I think I got it right on the first 3, as I thought the only true UK first's for those were the Sphere PB's, which I have. Completing a UK set of firsts for the Dark Tower has been driving me nuts for years and I thought I had it right.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sometimes I forget there are people who do not use FF. Haven't used IE since Windows ME I think. I do have the apple one, but that is only because it sneeks in with my phone updates. I would be lost without FF and the ease of browsing it brings.

Tell me about it, I had to go round to my brothers th other day to sort his pc out and I was like what is this god-damn awful browser, had to install FF as IE is just awful, even the latest version which attempts to mimick the ad-ons etc. I quite like Chrome (Google's browser) also speedy as hell, plus it uses little screen real estate and I love the combined addy+g search bar, just small niggles stopping me from using it.

Worst thing about buying a new Windows PC is that it comes with IE as default, people have to make a conscious effort to go out and download and learn a new browser, most people do make the effort (46.6% of users use FF with only 30.4% using the various IE versions) but there must be millions of people who don't even know you can change your browser, or that other browsers even exist, or that they are all free to use etc.

It's worth pointing out to people that if you download a new browser you don't have to get rid of your old one, I have FF, Chrome, Safari (Apple's browser) and IE and you can flick between them at will.

On the limitation page instead of a number is a notation "JK 002" identifying this as the second of ten copies supplied to the artist J.K. Potter. Also, a letter of provenance from the artist. I bought this before I went on vacation and it was waiting for me when I got home.

eBay for this one. It had a "Buy It Now" price and an offer to submit a best offer. I submitted an offer and it was accepted. Just a little bit of luck and timing, I guess.

That I don't know. I don't remember seeing it here. The booklet and flyer has a brief synopsis of the story, production information, and info about what is on the album along with guidelines for the radio station playing the program. The envelope is for the radio station to return info about the broadcast of it. I believe most if not all of the info (aside from what's on the disc and the instructions) are available elsewhere.

Just catching up on pages of posts in this thread. It always makes me happy to see how my friends are expanding their collections!

Over the past weekend while out of town, I picked up a little book signed by King some time ago. From what I could tell, the store had only had it in their inventory for nine days, so maybe I got lucky. Then again, maybe not. Honestly I hadn't heard of the book before buying it.

I really need to get a camera so I can post photos. (No camera, not even on my cellphone, until I make it to the store.)
I finally got a new camera. These are just about the first photos I've taken with it. Anything that looks like a scratch is just a trick of the camera flash on the protective cover.

I'm interested in what others think: unique, humdrum, real or fake sig, estimated worth, whatever.

That actually makes me feel very sad. When I went to see SK on the Bag of Bones tour, this book was one of three I asked him to sign. BofB was one, my Wiz & Glass promo booklet was the second (now proudly residing on Brice's bookshelves) and the above was the third...and King refused to sign it. No reason given (no time for conversation), just a "Sorry, I won't sign that one".

A guy just contacted me looking to authenticate a signature. He purchased a 1978 hardcover version of The Stand signed by King at a yard sale in Biddeford Maine for $1!

Signature is completely authentic...short inscription and dated 2/1/80. Not a first edition (T45 in gutter). Book is VG and DJ is Fair only, but for a $1 and a real King sig...that's an AWESOME deal.

Thanks, guys.

I bought the book at Powell's while in Portland on a beer drinking trip.
While Powell's always has something I want, their prices are generally always way too high for me. This book though seemed reasonably priced and had only been in their inventory for nine days. The sig looked good, but knowing nothing about the book itself, I had a text message exchange with our own Jerome (while in the library-quiet Rare Book Room a phone call wouldn't do). Based on my written description (no cellphone camera), he confirmed my opinion that it was likely a worthwhile purchase. Thanks again for the assistance by sharing your expert opinion, Jerome.

A question for the group:

I would think the publisher's Review Copy card, and the dates on that card and on the sig by King, implies that this would qualify as some version of an ARC signed prior to the book's general release. Does that sound correct or am I way off?

It wasn't signed prior to the book's general release. The review slip laid in states the publication date to be 9/15/78. The signature is dated nearly one year later at 9/8/79.

Those review slips can be problematic to anal collectors (and aren't we all?). One can never be sure if they are laid in to the original book. I know that they sometimes get moved from worn copies of books into nicer ones.

 Thanks, Bob. I need to get more sleep.

Good point about the cards. When I bought the book I was thinking that they seemed easily portable between copies of the book. However I would have made the purchase regardless, so ultimately the card was a desirable attribute but not a deciding factor.

This isn't new but it is definitely a pride and joy. One of those "long" proofs that Doubleday (and other publishers) did back in the 1970's. Since we are talking about advance states of the anthology SHADOWS:

That's interesting, Rahfa. Merlin1958 also has a King book inscribed to "Randy" dated 1983 (photos in his collection thread). When I was at Powell's in Portland, they had a few other books inscribed to Randy, but none really grabbed my attention. Yes, it's new Pride & Joy time.

First of all, thanks to Batsker (Steve) for this book. For a long time there was a SONG OF SUSANNAH Artist Edition-shaped emptiness on my DT shelf and now the void is filled (as they say, 'nature abhors a vacuum' so what other choice did I have than to pull out my wallet and buy me a copy?):

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_fcdqdPh-_A8/THUJEptCQWI/AAAAAAAAAhY/gaq49vauuSU/s512/SoSAE.JPG

Then I'd like to thank Mr. Rabbit Trick for this proof. Not one of the scarcer ones but a very nice copy (and I just couldn't resist getting at least one more proof of his collection now that he's selling). The US GERALD'S GAME proof:

The kind people at The Overlook Connection sent me this cool promo DJ (#512 of 1000):

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_fcdqdPh-_A8/THUI73gSGxI/AAAAAAAAAhA/YbQsfmEWCRY/nightmaresoverlookDJ.JPG

And I got a book that rightfully belongs here as well as in the 'Awesome Deal' thread. I mentioned it last week and it arrived swiftly on the other side of the Big Pond. A 2nd (?) printing of 'SALEM'S LOT (gutter code Q41 instead of Q37) with an amazing 2nd state dust jacket! This beauty cost me a little over $38 plus shipping.

I got the Japanese Riding The Bullet with red lettered text on the cover. I now have both versions of this book. :)

Bob, did this come with a slipcase originally? I'm just wondering cause the slipcase that came with mine is designed so it could hold a slightly taller book. I was wondering if it came with it or was an after market one.

Brice-
That was a gratis gift as part of buying the book. It was that way in Chris's collection.

Right on! Thank you! :)

there are 3 versions

The Japanese books didn't come with slipcases AFAIK. Mine don't have slipcases.

Details, please?

the 3 states were

1st state only 2000 made
2nd state only printed for 2 months
3rd state

Full art red, 1/2 art red, 1/2 blue

I cannot recall which book is which state. I'd have to dig into my notes if I can find them

Yeah I bought the painting, then tracked down a copy of the magazine on Ebay after.

I was amazed to come across something still available for sale from the artist that was from 1988 that had never been sold.

I think it's pretty neat (it was also pretty reasonable) and can't wait to see it in the context of the magazine.

Ok, this DEFINITELY qualifies as a steal! I took a chance on this eBay auction...title just said Different Seasons, but fine print and description said signed but there was no picture. Saw this with about 4 hours left in the auction and took a chance and bid on it as I had a gut feel that a pertson from Maine was not likely running a scam here.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220659101796&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

So for $49 I got a 1st edition Different Seasons, inscribed by King in the year of publication. The book itself is Fine with bright lettering on the spine. No bumps, bruises and the page block is very nice indeed. The DJ is probably VG+ but can be easily replaced. You'll see this one at Betts later on!

Hello all,
I just returned from DragonCon XXIV in Atlanta where I scored a very nice remarque in King's Desperation by Don Maitz. He was an extremely nice fellow and seemed to enjoy doing the sketch for me. I also got artist John Picacio to do remarques in the Subterranean Press editions of Drood, The Terror, and Muse of Fire all by Dan Simmons. I also got Jim Butcher's autograph in all 12 Harry Dresden series 1st/1st hardcovers, both graphic novels, and all 4 SFBC omnibus editions. Needless to say, it was a great weekend for me and only a 45 minute drive from my house.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

First eds of french books by B.Werber (which invited me to meet him within the next few days to get the proof of his upcoming book), and the UK proof of FD,NS

I always thought that one of the story was called "hair extension" for some reason. it's "fair extension"

The main character also thinks it's Hair Extension at first.
