Must be nice - getting it for free that is!

Persobnally I liked Ayana althought it is not a story that I woudl re-read.

I read Mute yesterday and liked it more! And then I read Lilja's review and it made me think more about it and to take a look at the art included with the story in playboy! Hm... Very interesting stuff!

And I got an email this morning from Tales of Wonder. They are the comic shop that Lilja picked up after the one that sponsored one of his contest renigged on the prizes - The same one that you Ari have had problems with - Since I won the original contest and Tales of Wonder agreed to provide the prizes i was given opportunity to take the Gunslinger Born copies or wait and get the hardback Omnibus. Woohoo the hardback was shipped to me yesterday and I shuyld be getting it by Friday or Saturday! Awesome!

I got the Playboy issue for free. Appears that one of my wive's co-worker's boyfriend (this guy is about 65 yrs old) has subscriptions to three "girly" mags as my wife calls 'em. He scans the pics and then tosses the mags - doesn't read anything. My wife asked her friend to save this issue and I got it two days ago. Darn thing doesn't even look like a page was turned.

Anyways, the price was right I'd say!

That's very cool Neeful--I love that story.

As for me, I was quite surprised by a package in the mail today. You must understand, I'm a small town guy--not used to something cool so I came the closest to peeing my pants as a man can be and retain his dignity. :excited:

Jerome's history on the site over the last six months speaks for itself. He is a driving force in development and was the key reason we have the King Catalog--the most comprehensive index of King collectible books on the internet as far as I know. My depth of respect and appreciation for him was already so high, this literally left me loose kneed.

Somehow, he managed to get a copy of 20th Century Ghosts -by Joe Hill signed for me and sent it my way. I am overwhelmed...thank you Jerome, this is officially the first piece of my serious book collection.

Pic kind of sucks but I did get myself a collectors folder in the gallery going, this is all that's in it

Also picked up three more red stephen king library titles: Bag of Bones, Eyes of the Dragon and Four Past Midnight. This too slowly is shrinking the number of titles I need to complete the set.

Well it's not a new purchase, yet, but I thought I would post since I'm pretty happy.

I doubt anyone remembers but I on the dt.net forums I expained my displeasure at the site going down at CD during the pre-order of Secretary of Dreams, and then by time I was able to get back on all the signed editions were sold out. So I wasn't happy with CD and I wasn't happy to see they were going to match numbers for book 2. Since I felt screwed because I thought it was their fault with the web site. Anyway, it all turned out good because I actually won a PC of Secretary of Dreams (signed), so I was very happy. But that wouldn't give me a chance at SOD II.

Long story short, as soon as Secetary of Dreams II went on the web site I signed up for the waiting list (which didn't work for SOD I) and was able to buy SOD II, so once again everything has worked out, and I will get both of the books. And if it continues with a third book I now have a number. Who Hoo! So after all my complaining it has all worked out for the good in the end. :)

Ari_Racing
11-17-2007, 09:57 AM
:) I'm glad to hear that.

By the way. I have a SOD S/L and I'm not going to buy SOD II S/L (I'll buy only the gift edition).
So, if anyone wants to be able to get one, please PM me. I don't mind to give my chance for SOD II to anyone who wants it :)

Hey Ari, I think you have to order that pretty much right away at this point, so if anyone is interested they better let you know fast.

The email I recieved from Mindy Jarusek at CD said:
<<<You have 48 hours to place your order or we will assume you are no longer interested. After that time, the book will be sold to the waiting list on a first come, first served basis. We will NOT be able to match your number or even guarantee you can purchase a copy after this deadline passes.>>>

<<<We have created a SECRET link for you to order the Limited Edition. In order to keep this page secret, when you proceed to the page from the link, there won't actually be any information about the actual book that you are purchasing. I will, however, reply personally (in addition to the auto-confirmation response) stating what it is that you have just purchased so you can keep that for your records.>>>

I ordered mine through the "secret link".

I have a weird question but I need the answer asap.

How would the last name "AXAT" be pronounced in english?

I'll edit the post after I get the answer so it won't be an offtopic

Axat would be like Axe and At together.

This is a copy of the letter that accompanied the UK DTVII proof. (By the way, I have copy #6 of the 100).

John

This book is really rare.
Here is my copy, as far as I know, the only one in existance signed by King. I got Michael to sign it for me last year.

I used to have transgressions S/L (I had #28 ) but I exchanged it for DT VII S/L

I won it at skfakes.co.uk 2nd contest.

I never enter contests, but for curiosity, I entered the London Times newspaper contest to win tickets for the SK Lisey's Story reading at Battersea. I won two tickets, got great front row seats and lots of books signed.

I did won some tickets as well, but unfortunately couldnt gone there...
a friend of mine tried to get a personnalised book to me, but... no :(
only one book to get signed...

They stated that SK would only sign one book each, but he signed just about everything people put in front of him. Kudos to him for that.

I'll have to post my pride and joy later, my DVII collection. I have the S/L, AE (personalized by Whelan in addition to the sig that was in the book to begin with), Trade HC signed by Whelan, ARC/Proof (kinda beat up, but I don't care lol, AND for all you thedarktower.net old-timers, this is the copy that USED to belong to The Road Virus ROFL), and The British Trade HC.

I really want to get all the editions including foreign editions, and of course, the one I want but will never be able to afford is the British ARC.

the foreign edition of which book?

He's referring to DTVII. Rorschach, please do phost a photo of all the editions you have.

Mr. Rabbit Trick, how wonderful to have met King and for him to have signed all those books for you.

Wiz, maybe you can get Airtraffic to trade you his Whelan remarque that you've been coveting if you offer him that signed proof. :D

Finally received my signed copy of 20th Century Ghosts today I ordered it from Brookline Booksmiths and like always requested it personalized. Unlike other bookstores that seem to be hit and miss when asking for the book to be personalized Brookline has not failed so far. Joe personalized and drew a little drawing very similar to what He drew in Jerome's book, also got Stewart O'Nans new book also with a nice inscription. I love it when writers personalize with more than just "to" or "for"

yes, I know which one you are talking about. It is the ARC for the UK paperback first edition. I think I remember that Hutch posted a picture of it and stated that he tried earlier that year to get the owner to sell it. I do not think the book was on ABE (maybe I'm wrong there).

Patrick

Yep, I think that quote goes back to late 1995 or very early 1996. At the time and in context, it was the funniest damn thing I had read on the internet. It is still one of my all-time favorite quotes - although maybe you had to be there.

tippy4
11-25-2007, 02:26 PM
Yes, that was a good one. And it makes me proud that it is still part of your signature over on the DTNET.

It may not be as old as '96, but it goes a few years back.

After DT5 came out, quite a few folks on the DTNET started talking like they were in Midworld. Examples were referring to Stephen King as Sai King, or saying things like "do ya kennit" or "thankie-sai".

It was driving me nuts.

So I told them that anyone speaking in "Dark Tower Speak" would be beaten with a stick.

It might not seem that funny now...but like Patrick said...maybe you had to be there.

In addition to the King signed Talisman, the seller included a Staub signed Talisman at no extra charge.

Any Straub experts out there wanna tell me if the signature is good?

Unfortunatley, both books were owned by a smoker at some point, so they have a smell about them.

I wish smokers knew what they were doing to their books, and furthermore, advertised them as being stinky!

You can usually get most/all of the smell out.
We had a lengthy discussion on how at dt.net.
Do you recall the tips?
If not, I remember my posting on how I cleaned up several books.

tippy4
12-01-2007, 11:21 AM
It is my experience that over time, a lot of the smell fades.

I have also heard sealing the book up in a bag or container with some baking soda can help.

I have goten some books that smelled so bad in the past that the stink hits you as soon ans you open the box.

Some were so so drenched with smoke that you could take a damp cloth and wipe the DJ and there was yellow-brown residue on the cloth :scared:

Nice purchase on that Dolan's Cadillac. I have the numbered and deluxe editions.

I really like the marble boards on the deluxe and lettered edition.

Thanks Tippy.
Of the tips, using step one (baking soda), and then step 3 afterwords worked very well on a book I had that was overpowering.

Nice grabs, everyone. The Dolan's Cadillac is sweet!!!

Tippy, I really can't tell with the two sigs. The Straub one looks real close to mine. The King sig looks like his recent ones. For some reason, it gives the illusion that the "n" and the "i" are reversed in King. It might just be me--I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. :P

I've got a few books that had smoke smell. As an ex-smoker, I'm ultra sensitive to it. I've had success my just airing them out for a week or so until the odor is minimal. At that point, actually putting it with other older books has done the trick.

Edit to add--or see RF's great tips above!!! :D

From what I've seen many of King's sigs have the "n" and "i" transposed.

Far from being an expert, I'd say that the king sig looks good to me and that the Straub looks pretty damn close to the only Straub sig I have. My opinion is that they are both authentic.

I just received a signed copy of The Talisman.

It is not a 1st edtion (in fact it is an 11th printing) but as I do not own a signed copy of this title, something is far better than nothing. Especially at $60 shipped.

Ebay Auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200172257257)

As usual, I submit the signature for your approval. I think it is good...but there is something about it that makes me want someone else to give it a thumbs-up!

wow immaculate condition on both, congrats RF!

Pet Semetary is another one of those first editions I still don't own for some unknown reason. This book and IT I need to buy. IT for some reason is hard to find in perfect shape, at least for me. Because the book is so large, if it's been read, it's usually a little shaky. I threw both of my original copies away years ago because I lost the dust jackets somewhere along the line in High School. So sue me I had no idea I would be collecting them one day. lol And I've just never gotten around to replacing them.

I figured that it was the book from Ari, but upon closer examination, I see that the name on the box is a known person; and in hand script 'Randall Flagg'. I couldn't find the keys to my door fast enough. My amazement was furthered when I found a hardcover copy collection of the seven comics in The Gunslinger Born. I was speachless. Well after three years the 25th Anniversary of Dark Forces finally arrived (numbered edition). and it was worth the wait, it is really a beautiful and HUGE book. The traycase is almost 4 inches wide. The paper is the same that was printed by CD for From a Buick 8. And it's got a cool fold-out traycase. And there's a lot of illustrations for The Mist, so they didn't skimp out on Kings story.
