I couldn't resist!

The Dead Zone (Easton Press) 1st printing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310220449311&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

Yes. I am weak.

I bought what turned out to be the reissue before I even knew there were two printings and although not a priority, I knew I was going to get the original someday. I ran across this auction, confirmed with the seller it was indeed the 1993 edition, and went ahead and bought it.

Not a bad price IMO!

My personal notes in my bookcollectorz.com software shows $49 but honestly I don't think that's right.

I checked my spreadsheet and of course I don't have that info. I do have the 2004 edition at $129.00. Not sure if that info is correct either.

carlosdetweiller

I bought the 2004 edition directly from Easton Press. My records show $50 so I suspect the price was $49.95 or something like that.

I bought a copy of the 1993 edition from Iliad Bookshop in 1999 for $39. They tend to be on the high side so the issue price from Easton Press was probably a little lower than that.

One of my mistakes...paid $175 for the 1993 edition back when it peaked for being "rare"...then of course the 2004 edition totally flooded the market...

Still... The Collector states print runs of 1,300 for each edition. Not exactly a huge number...

I think I posted this in the proofs thread as well (my head's filled with sawdust today) but here goes: I got the Scribner Dreamcatcher proof today for the lovely sum of $13.95 including shipping to The Netherlands :D (the proof was $9.95 and the seller decided to ship it at domestic costs). Since the actual shipping turned out to be $13.45 they made a net profit of $0.50 on this proof. Very generous!

It is WAY over priced. I would have never got the book for myself. My wife just happen to see an email from PS publishing and bought the book for my birthday. She doesn't know a thing about collecting books but it was very sweet of her to get it for me. Either way there are only 100 signed copies of the book and it is very well made. I am VERY glad I have the book from a collecting stand point as it is quite rare for King book.

Herbertwest

It just seems that way. This was the copy that I had in my collection. I knew Brice collected Vinyl and King so he ended up with it.

Where did bootleg come from? These are legit presses for a special Halloween broadcast by ZBS productions (no longer in business with vinyl)

The print must be very small because I've only seen three in my collecting career. Brice owns one, I own one that also includes a reel to reel used for the Halloween show (it also includes a production of Salem's Lot I've never heard before), and one I saw in a showcase at Horrorfind Weekend with a very hefty price tag on it.

So, these new acquisitions definitely deserve some Pride & Joy spotlight before I add them to my Collection Thread.

You guys know I have a small but nice proof collection. There are quite a few of them out there that are easy to get and I still haven't gotten them all, but I'm not in a hurry. Stuff like Needful Things, The Dark Half, Dolores Claiborne... they will be mine, but not today.

But 'there are other proofs than these...'

Some of them are really scarce and elusive and I happen to get a kick out of those old, quirky things. Not everyone understands this. But I'm quite sure that many among you, my fellow collectors, DO understand that the proofs - my new Prides & Joys - that I'm about to show you really make my collector's heart speed up a few beats...

So, here goes:

(drum roll)

biomieg

Okay. Before I post the pics I would like to thank the fellow collector who sold me these proofs. If his dislike for paperbacks hadn't been bigger than his love for King collectibles I would most likely never had the chance to add these to my collection :) So Alan... tapadh leat, moran taing, thank ye (whichever appeals to your Scottish heart the most).

Thanks Bob. For me personally, only the Doubleday proofs (and Alan's UK Night Shift proof) are more desirable than these.

The Eyes of the Dragon was the piece de résistance of my new acquisitions, so there's no need to be secretive anymore - I also bought the UK Christine proof but that one has yet to arrive. And from Betts, I expect to receive the Carrie ARC and the US Eyes of the Dragon proof in a couple of months.

This is from the last few weeks. Nothing too crazy but I like it nonetheless.

I bought the book and prints from David and I emailed Tomas at SKcollector about a case. I figured it was a longshot but he actually had one for sale and voilla, my new pride and joy #1:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/violentxpacification/Books/crashedout001.jpg

The Stand, first printing. Again, the case was from SK.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/violentxpacification/Books/crashedout003.jpg

All books in this picture except W&G came from TDT users, either directly or through Ebay.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/violentxpacification/Books/crashedout002.jpg

Not SK but I absolutely love Scalzi. The man has a way with words. I wouldn't say this was as good as Old Man's War trilogy but the idea is definitely interesting.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/violentxpacification/Books/crashedout004.jpg

I forgot to take a picture of Rex Miller's Slob on Centepide. I have a few more things on the way, one of them being Knowing Darkness. It's only the slipcased version but I couldn't pass it up for $95 or so that it cost on sale.

Lastly, we have The Ghoul by Steve Niles and Berni Wrightson. I like them both so this was a no-brainer. It came out this Wednesay.

Nice purchases everyone!!!!

Today I received an absolutely flawless Grant Gunslinger 1st edition. I've sold a couple super nice copies in my store but this one beats all!

Also, I have about 10 signed 1st trade editions of various King titles coming next week.

Lots of new goodies that you will see in the store soon.

Sure. I have not priced them yet (except in my head) as I need to check condition (already checked authenticity of the signatures). Am buying from a guy I've known for 10 years who wanted to liquidate the rest of his collection (he has sold a big part off in last few years).

I have coming signed:

UK Christine
Pet Sematary
Gunslinger 2nd edition F/F
Dark Half
Needful Things
Gerald's Game
Dolores Claiborne
Insomnia
Dreamcatcher
Buick 8

Also Angst from Phantasia Press (already sold to a member here)
several non-signed UK 1st editions...Firestarter, Different Seasons, Skeleton Crew, IT, Eyes of the Dragon

Finally a 1993 copy of Dead Zone by Easton Press and the 2004 version of same.

If I stay up late enough tonight, I will re-organize the web site inventory page and there are other books to post with more to arrive over the next week.

I go stretches where I cannot find a thing (at a bargain) but then I find a bunch of stuff. I'm a stickler about quality and condition. Not all books I buy are Fine/Fine but I much prefer it (and so do my customers).

Yup its rounded on the back and in my opinion looks very classy, i would recommend Dicks slipcases/traycases to anyone that is thinking of a great way to display and protect their valuable book!

Oh and i had a nice suprise from Vincent Chong today who has done the artwork for most (if not all i think) Joe Hill's limited editions ....

The "Horns" front cover

The Vampire Archives is a massive book--more than 1056 pages! It has multitudes of vampire stories--even an excerpt from Dan Simmons' Carrion Comfort. It ranges from stuff published before pre-1900 to modern stuff. I'm thinking about actually getting one of the trade copies to read.

That's the truth! I had S/L Regulators anywhere from $675 to $950. I tell the consignees where I view the break points at (price where a book sells or doesn't) but I understand peoples' cost in a book is a determining factor they use when selling. No one WANTS to take a loss, but sometimes you have to.

And FYI, even though I say so on the site...MAKE AN OFFER if there is something you like but the price seems too high.

I've been randomly buying some of the must-have mags and I thought I'd check on ABE what booksellers typically ask for this one. Well, they start at $80 and this one stuck out like a sore thumb at $10 so I decided to release it from its misery ;)

Hello everyone! I am new to this board and a new Stephen Collector as well. I read my first Stephen King book back in high school (Salem's Lot/13 years ago) and immediately fell in love.

Earlier this year I read a few of his books and decided that I wanted to get together a complete first edition collection of his works. Here is my progress so far. Keep in mind I've only been collecting since March of this year (2010).

I just received my signed copy of The Gunslinger from Bett's Books and was extremely happy with my purchase. It is literally flawless. David is an amazing person to do business with. I also received my copy of Little Sisters of Eluria from him.

My next project is going to be getting a copy of Danse Macabre and an entire S/L Dark Tower set.....

Wish me luck and let me know what you think.

Araknid, those are perfect-looking copies of King's first five books! I'm actually envious, and I've been collecting much longer than you have, but then again, I'm satisfied with my book-club hardcovers of them (I do have a 1st of The Stand, though). You seem to be missing the hardcover of The Colorado Kid and The Green Mile, otherwise you've done extremely well if you only been collecting for a few months.

Well...basically the idea is to post that deal you still can't believe, like grabbing a signed book for less than 10 dls (I remember Kenny grabbed a Bag of Bones pocket for an ammount like that one), or that copy of Rage which cost was only one dollar :)

I'll start with two deals in particular. One was a supposed gift edition of Insomnia which auction had the S/L picture of the book. Even when the seller said it wasn't signed, I bid and won...the S/L edition for 76 dls.

And the other was a pristine copy of Rage (US) for 26 dls S/H included...in a bookstore in Germany.

Per the (currently defunct) Hill House webpage:

There's a side story to this book's publication of interest to collectors. The first edition of 'Salem's Lot was priced at $7.95. One of the points of a true first edition 'Salem's Lot dust jacket is the inclusion of an error in the flap copy—the character "Father Cody" is misprinted as "Father Callahan." For many years this was considered the absolute first issue—until 1983, that is. I was working at Doubleday at the time as a publicist and had just finished doing the publicity on Pet Sematary. One day I was walking by the art department and noticed that the designers were cleaning out their flat files, throwing out the thousands of old dust jackets that had accumulated over the years. I saw a few King jackets lying in the discard file and asked if I could take them. Once I returned to my office, I started leafing through the dust jackets and saw three covers for 'Salem's Lot. I noticed, however, that the retail price was wrong—$8.95 instead of $7.95. However, the "Father Cody" error was present. I called my friend Bill Thompson and asked how this could be. Bill replied that the book had been originally priced at $8.95; however, at the last minute the sales department had decided that it was priced too high and should be reduced by $1. The dust jackets had just been printed with the original price, but they were still at the printer, so Doubleday made the call to have the printer price-clip the $8.95 and run the jackets through the press with the new price of $7.95. I realized that I was holding the three dust jackets that had been sent to the art department before the repricing. Today these three dust jackets, mated with first edition books, reside in the collections of the three top Stephen King collectors in the world. A dealer sold the third one about two years ago for over $10,000.

Nothing to compare with some of the above, but back in my early days on eBay (1999 or 2000) I saw a F/F copy of Six Stories (#178) + Contraband 2 up for bids together. I got both for $636. I had seen copies of Six Stories going for $800 at that time.

I turned around and sold Contraband II for over $500, meaning my outlay for the Six Stories was about $100.

I have recieved the french new edition of FRANKENSTEIN, illuqtrated by bernie
And i noticed something : well the book have more pages than the other french from 1984 (but this cOuld be due to the layout), and i dnt have my other copy at home to check

HOWEVER, something else is also very intriguing : the introduction.
The one from 1984 was 2 pages long, and the new one is 4 pages long, and knda include the previous one at its end.
The intro is divided in two parts, which are if i recall well: "about the book" n "about the writer"

are there 2 different introductions? Can someone compare an early edition with a more recent one?

I have been collecting for 20 years, own over 400 books, almost 2/3rds signed by King, and I cannot come close to any of your amazing stories!

The closest I can come I think was that I had purchased the S/L Wizard & Glass on eBay (#296) for about $300 (back before any inkling that DT V-VII were in the works) and was looking through ABE.com and saw that a bookseller in NY (Marianna Fontana) had listed seperately DT S/L I, II, and III all #296 for sale. I bought all 3 for about $3000, and thus I was on my way to putting together my first complete same-numbered DT S/L set. And while the price was low compared to what the books are worth today, I thought it was unbelievable luck that I could put together a same-number set "the hard way." That set is among my favorite collectibles in my collection and has been subsequently augmented by:

#296 UK Wizard & Glass S/L
#296 S/L Gunslinger audio tapes read by King
#296 of all 4 DT prints by Michael Whelan

I've had some pretty good deals on books. More amazing though are the books that I've been gifted with both here and at .net. In fact most of my most valuable books were gifts from friends here or there.
