I just looked closely at the pictures I posted and it looks as if my scanner may be going south. The book itself does not have that textured pattern that shows in the pictures. I'll be doing some tests, but it looks as if I'll have to get a new scanner.

Love it, John! Is this the second HP proof you got, or do you have more?

My upcoming new prides & joys (pictures will follow when they have physically arrived):

1) Io magazine (with 'Brooklyn August") - my second pre-Carrie publication :) - got it for $76 which I think is not too bad!
2) Lisey's Story numbered UK proof
3) Hearts In Atlantis ARC with playing cards and publisher's letter... sorry Ari!

Ye, this is the second Harry Potter proof I have now, Prisoner of Azkaban and Chamber of Secrets. Both are US proofs. The other HP proofs (such as those listed on ABE) are much too expensive for me. I keep checking, though, in case someone makes a mistake.

That's a great price on the Io magazine, and congratulations on the other acquisitions.

Thanks guys!

I keep checking, though, in case someone makes a mistake.

That's actually what I'm doing all the time :) I don't have the financial means to pay premium prices for premium items, so I just have to watch and wait for stuff like the Io mag (or the Startling Mystery mag with the Reaper's Image, for which I paid ridiculously little)... there's a ton of stuff I still want but I mostly depend on the listings that sort of 'fall through the cracks'.

I received a sketchbook today from Zach McCain, it's a standard 9 X 12 artist sketchbook that he used for preliminary sketches in 2008 through 2009. It has about 150 sketches ranging from small illios to full size cover preliminaries. I recognize many variations on small press covers he has done' as well as many prelims and unused ideas for the SK art book (3 Lord Malshun, 2 Pennywise, 3 or 4 from Cell, 1 from Lawnmower Man, 1 Roland and I think 1 CK and 1 Mordred). It is an incredible insight into an artists creative process and has become one of my favorite items.

The slip-cased Postscripts cost $80 originally, right? So that's a great deal.

That one has always surprised me...if any s/l should have had a steady rise in price it was that one, and it was flat as a pancake...shows the overall flimsiness of the Joe Hill s/l market.

SOD I was a great price too, obviously...since it orginally cost $250, right?

jhanic
01-23-2010, 03:06 PM
I think the SOD s/l was $300. I could be mistaken about that one, though. I show the s/l PS 10 to have sold for $150. The signed PS 10 without the slipcase was $80.

John

Rahfa

Item condition: Brand New

I'm new to this forum and not a mega$$$ collector so after nearly 20 years of absolutely lusting after the Grant editions of the DT saga I'm so chuffed to have finally snagged a MINT shrink-wrapped DT1-3 gift set (now opened and Brodarted)!

http://dubrosa.tripod.com/books/dt1to3giftset.jpg

I'm so in love with it! :excited:

I remember crooning over a just released DTIII in Galaxy Books in Sydney for about 9 months & never having the cash to buy it (I was 13 it I only had Aussie Pesos) until it was snatched up. That was obviously almost 20 years ago and I've had plenty of time between then and now to find others but my DT infatuation is constant but undulating, and so it reaches nadirs as often as it reaches peaks. I guess I'm in a peak right now!

Also for a my DT2 Grant Ist Ed trade I snaffled a new dj from DMG. Lovely!:D

http://dubrosa.tripod.com/books/new_dott1stdj.jpg

My other recent additions include DT4 Grant and DT LSOE AE (so awesome!)

Got the McSweeney's San Francisco Panorama in the mail yesterday! It is much much larger than I had envisioned. I am definitely a happy camper as it contains myt two facorite things: writing by Stephen King and Yankees Baseball. The World Series Section penned by King is pretty tongue in cheek and though King is a self pronounced Yankee hater I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article!

I just bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150409193196&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

I had passed on its original listing because the seller had zero feedback. When it was relisted I contacted the seller and asked a bunch of questions. It turns out the seller is the high school teacher who asked students to send a request out to their favorite authors and see if they would respond. They sent along a sheet of paper with the school letterhead on it. King was one of the very few who took the time to respond and, according to the teacher, did so quite eloquently.

I couldn't quite read the letter in the listing (probably could if I had really really tried) but it looks like it has really good content. And a pretty good deal at $350, I think.

I would think that is not likely. The seller started his/her description to me with "I was the teacher...." I don't think they are with the school anymore.

It reminds me of the time Prudence Grant found those issues of THE DRUM with King's "The 43rd Dream" and "Codename: Mousetrap" in them. She sold them on eBay and I'm willing to bet good ol' Lisbon High didn't see a dime from those sales.

Good job Ari, Bob, John, and Jerome :) congratulations! I was watching the Onan but there's no way I could afford it. I'm glad you got it, John!

Meanwhile, I got a nice non-King book set: first Pocket Books paperback printings [1988] of the first four Robert R. McCammon books (so essentially they are reissues), all signed by the author and neatly stored in a great little slipcase. This set was conceived by The Overlook Connection and (according to the tipped-in limitation pages) they only produced 100 such sets. I got the P/C copies :)

I received an unexpected King item called "Chart of Darkness" by Kevin Quigley. It's a chapbook that charts all of Stephen King's books: how high they peaked and how long that charted etc... It came from Cemetery Dance and is one of their promo chapbooks.

I haven't read it yet but it looks like a great reference tool.

Very cool!

Here is this letter that I got from the Nebraska school teacher on eBay. I think it is an interesting read. One thing about King is that he is always generous and considerate when it comes to students. I've always liked that about him. Must be the ex-teacher in him.

Makes me want to read a few of those books - "Raven" I've never heard of.
Advertised as 'New' on Amazon for $600.
Amazon.com: Raven: The Untold Story of The Rev. Jim Jones and His People (9780525241362): Tim Reiterman, John Jacobs: Books
Used for ~$9.

Tidbit of a nice review by Dixielee Tripp:
A warning is in order. Once you read Raven, you will never be able to let go of the story. But if you learn one thing from it, it should be that there are deceivers in the world who, if allowed, will take your home, your money and your life.

I'm intrigued too. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I remember the events and local trauma.

It was a crazy time in San Francisco. 9 Days after the Jonestown massacre, Dan White shot and killed Mayor George Moscone, and Harvey Milk. Per city charter, the head of the board of Supervisors assumes the Mayor position. This propelled a little know person-Dianne Feinstein into the national spotlight. Now of course she is a U.S. Senator.

New books :

o Graphic novel based on Werber's "Empire of the antz". Includes a remarque from the illustrator dated from the month of publication (nov 1994).
The remarque is really nice as I still have some troubles to believe that it's not from the book itself.
I guess i am gonna intend to get it signed by the author, Bernard Werber. And hopefully i'll get one of his doodle, that would make a remarque & a doodle!

o Joe Hill's Twentieth Century Ghosts. The french edition comes out next wednesday. It is a review copy and the title on it is different than the one the publisher recently mentionned me and sent a cover.

o Stephen King's Just After Sunset. The french edition (entitled "Just before the dusk") comes out in less than a month. This is a PROOF!
The second french Stephen King's proof that i own!

Well I finally got something King related again (which seems to be rare nowadays, besides the comics). A Lettered Edition of Robert Bloch's Psychos with King's Autopsy Room Four story. The sad thing is no one signed this at all nor is it numbered. Oh well, it was in a trade so the loss was compensation not actual cash. Even without the signatures it's a sharp looking book, so I'll still take it.

btw, does anyone know if this version of Autopsy Room Four is any different than the one that appeared in Everything's Eventual (did he revise it)?

I was on the fence on SLOB- but just pulled the trigger after seeing your pics, Randall. Great looking book at a fair price. Jerad can thank you for the sale- I honestly wouldn't have bought it if I didn't see your pics. That's one thing about Centipede; although I know the book(s) will most likely be beautiful when done, I just can't get excited about the digital mock-ups of the books that remain as the only image-even well after they are done and gone. I have to see the real deal. I STILL don't know if I want certain Centipede books that were done years ago- because I don't know what they really look like.

Jerad, if you're out there, how about actual pics of the books? It really makes a difference.

Anyway, looking forward to reading this nice looking edition.

Howdy folks-
I'm just new to the group, and figured it was time for me to step out of the shadows and start posting. Eventually I'll find the appropriate thread and do a proper introduction.
In the meantime, I was excited enough to want to share with others that understand my particular mania.
I recently purchased the submission manuscirpt and mechanical proofs of SIX STORIES from your own Mike P -- had no idea how to display it. While shopping the other day I found a curious table with glass windows and it turns out that it makes a perfect display case. I was also able to track down a proof of the cover art which I had framed; include a traycased copy on the table and now I have my own little SIX STORIES corner.
