Biomieg - Rosie's a cutie!

I haven't had cats since I was really young, but after a few days of this rugrat (her name is Addy), I remember why I enjoyed them so much!

Maybe we should move the kitten discussion to the random comments thread? (My bad!)

biomieg

Rosie is also 'rescued', we got her from the local animal shelter. She'd been abandoned while pregnant and gave birth in the 'wild'. Then she and her kittens were found and brought to the shelter. We can still tell she's had a tough time but she's really blossoming now. So I second your plug, Eric!

Something I have wanted for a long time but just was not prepared to spend a couple hundred bucks for! I found it on ebay in an auction with King's name misspelled (Stephan) and no bidders after two days. So I put in a low snipe bid and promptly forgot about it until I got the email noticification that I won the auction for $65.99! The auction started at $49.99 and I put in a $75 snipe just for the helluvit! There was one other bidder that bid $64.99! The frame is not in great shape but eventually I will reframe and mat it.

Thanks, when I stumbled on the auction with Kings name spelled wrong adn saw NO BIDs after three days I had a glimmer of hope that this would fall through the cracks of those with this on their wish list.

I have wanted this broadside for many years and am quite happy to get it for so little!

Now if I could onloy stumble upon a cheap First Grant Edition of The Gunslinger! My life would be almost complete then! :-)

Framed probably $350...in the end, that's what a nice frame will cost anyway. Don't use glass, though.

I hadn't checked in here in awhile! After having wiped all the drool off my keyboard I thought I'd say congrats to everyone on some really nice acquisitions! Most of my time & money has gone to preparing for our little gunslinger (due in 7 weeks!!) so collecting has pretty much been on hold, but I *did* score a pretty nice 1st/1st of The Stand at a yard sale for 50cents...anyone have an idea what a new DJ would run me/where to find one? The one on it is decent, but the shelf wear is pretty gnarly, at the same time.

Looks interesting, John. What's the story on that?

I first noticed this edition up for sale on eBay. I looked in all the bibliographies I have and couldn't find it. I went onto Addall and found a number of copies available at fairly reasonable prices (I paid $10 for this one--the one on eBay was $35 BIN) and grabbed one. King's poem is on page 320. As you may be able to tell, it's not in the greatest condition, but at that price, I'm satisfied.

This is a massive collection of baseball stuff. If you're a fan, it's well worth the price.

John

<edit> The Addall link is:

Here's a pic of my current King pride & joy, a complete set of the 37 Stephen King Library red 'leather' books. I picked up the last ones I needed last week.

Now I have to rearrange the bookshelves to free up enough space to put them all together....

Hey Patrick I also won in one of Lilja's contests - I won the audio CD of UtD. I emailed Lilja and he said it should ship soon directly from the publisher.

I also won a 1st Ed UtD in the Collector's contest and I did receive that from VeryFineBooks about two weeks ago! My wife wants to know why I have three copies of swuch a huge book! I said "duh, ones a Signed Limited, ones a rading copy and I won the thrid one!" Maybe I'll give it to my sister - she reads King but cannot afford hardbacks! She waits for the paberbacks to come out!

I don't think so. I think Whelan was busy with the new drawings when Jerad's book went to press. Time will tell though.

Mine was not 5K. It is the traycased edition-1.5K available now, with a tipped in 1/50 Michael Whelan art pieces.
I haven't even opened the book, but I'm happy the original piece is separate. I can frame the drawing and look at it every day, without fear of "wearing the book out".
The Whelan, Dameron, and ,Maitz remarques are all fabulous, but difficult to share-they're enclosed in a book.
I just need to figure out the best look for the frame job.

He shipped USPS. It was a massive package. Box inside a box inside a box inside a box.
The outside was pretty well crushed (USPS handlers upset at the size/weight tossed it), but the damage doesn't seem to have transferred to the inside.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

You all might remember one of the best Christmas gifts I ever got last year...an Orange Plume Proof Gunslinger! This behind-the-back deal was brokered by our own carlosdetweiller (Bob) through Nerak (Karen) to my wife. That was an AMAZING gift.

And then we come to this year.

A little background story. For mr 50th birthday in September, my 9-year-old daughter Sage got me a stuffed bear from Build-a-Bear, which she names Stephen King and recorded a message that said "You're the best daddy in the whole wide world." Sweet, yes?

Well for Christmas, she "stole" Stephen King back and with a little help from my wife, made a costume for my Stephen King bear. Any guesses???? Yes, she made a Father Callahan outfit to go with my painting by Michael Whelan as the new Father Callahan in SK's Discordia project. WHAT A GIFT! AND WHAT A FAMILY I HAVE! On the inside of the book, she even transcribed the actual first two sentences of Salem's Lot.

That signed edition is really big. I don't have mine yet. Jerad told me it was bigger than the Lovecraft art book. I find that hard to believe but it must be true. Where in the world will we put it? Surely no one has shelves that tall.

Can a book be too big?

Yes, when it's supporting the ceiling.

Sam
12-29-2009, 12:36 PM
I see three items in the picture directly above the signature page pic. It looks like two copies of the book and the traycase. Is that right? It looks like you may have to either display the traycase seperately or store the book in the case and have it displayed lying flat (a waste of the TC if you ask me). OR buy another bookcase for this book and leave out a shelf. That traycase looks to be two feet tall!!

Randall Flagg

Possibly...but I'm glad to own it. It's actually 4 pieces. The traycase itself, two books, and the Michael Whelan art piece. Jerad did not bind the Whelan piece in the book (which I prefer). One could devote an entire 4' bookcase and a framed piece to do it justice.
My pictures don't convey it well, but the smaller of the two books slides into a pocket on the top side of the traycase. The larger book nestles in the bottom tray.

I now have the complete set!! I stumbled across an auction on e-bay for the first 4 with no bids so I had to grab them. Ending paying less than $20 for all 5 of them.:excited:

He may be afraid the photo will take it's soul, or at the very least the necklace (or is it the envelope?).:P

Here's my latest acquisition - a very nice preliminary study from Bernie Wrightson of one of the art pieces for 'From a Buick 8'. As you can see, he changed the layout significantly in the published piece. Actual art area is about 5 1/2 by 8 inches.

I've been looking for a nice Wrightson for a while - this fills a gap wonderfully.

Cover of the upcomming french Just After Sunset, entitled : "Just before the Dusk". Publication date : march the 3rd

(Slightly different from the US one... a wee thing between King & the title on the cover)

I haven't posted in this thread with any new items for awhile, but I've got a couple to post now.

First up, the Stepen King Illustrated Companion and JAS paperback.

First editions of DTII and Thinner, both in fine condition, more than likely never read (I received DTII in the shrinkwrap).

Pretty excited to have new additions to my collection. :)

Looking at that French JAS, isn't it weird how the title on the spine runs from the bottom up, not the other way, like it is here.

Not a 'new' P&J but I just located it this morning. I can't remember exactly when I purchased it, but when I received it I stuck it in between some books in the bookcase I have in my bedroom and forgot about it. When trying to make room for my different UTDs this morning I found it.

Now that you mention it... that's true.
I looked at all the books in my shelves, and the french ones are all this way (the text on the spine goes up), and the english/ americans are the reverse...

I'm not sure...I think I probably got the first one sometime in 2001, and then a couple more right after that...

The full list is:

DT I, III-VII, LSOE
Black House
Danse Macarbe
Christine
Desperation
Buick 8
Salem's Lot
SOD I
Borderlands 5
Quietly Now
Night Visions 5
Gauntlet 2
Dark Dreamers
Killer Inside Me
Plant #2, #3 (I have a full set signed to the same person, but unfortunately only 2 and 3 have the same number)

It's actually 21 books (or 22 if you count both Plants), but I'm still missing plenty of the big ones...it's kind of funny that the ones I've got the most of are those weird anthologies like Gauntlet, or NV...they all count though! Haha...

And....I have 'Bare Bones' too, but that's not signed by SK.
