Not exactly something you can see and touch, but the feeling is even better:

Today I was confirmed as Videogame Designer for Gameloft!!

Who knows...maybe a videogame based on one of King's works is near the horizon :) I had the project since 2002 and maybe...maybe :)

Hey, congrats buddy! I would LOVE that :-)

I went to one of the comic stores that I frequent today to pick up whatever they had for me on reserve! I picked up a second copy of The Guide to Gilead, a second of Locke & Key #4, an American Nightmares #2, and two copies of The Sourceror. But that is not why I am here writing in the Pride & Joy thread.

The cashier ( never saw him before) said oh and here are two posters. Unfortunately they were folded and not rolled, but cool nonetheless.

These are full sized posters as can be seen in the following pics where I placed a copy of the comic on them. Not sure what I am going to do with them - keep 'em, or sell 'em or whatever, but for what it's worth here they are:

My guy at my comics store also gives the posters to me (I have ones for Treachery, Sorcerer, Captain Trips and American Nightmare.) I also have a rolled American Nightmare one (it's the same picture as the folded one). They are kind of neat, but I'm not really sure how to display them (I'm VERY short of space) so I just keep them folded (except for the rolled one) and in a comics bag/board.

Is the only difference between the numbered and lettered the case?
No. Read this observation:

So, I finally got my Lettered and Numbered copies of He is Legend. Everyone's pretty well discussed the Numbered, so in my opinion how does the Lettered stack up? Drum-roll please...

Meh...

The Trayase is actually a clamshell, sort of like for Insomnia (this fits together better) made out of the same material as the slipcase for the numbered and roughly the same size with the same shape. It has gold lettering on the outside with the title, editor, and Gauntlet insignia. Worth mentioning is the fact that it has satin ribbon strands attached to both ends to tie it shut and came tied in a bow, which I thought was sort of funny.

As far as the book itself is concerned, it is bound in leather, although upon first glance it looks almost identical to the material used for the Numbered. I literally had to pull them out and look at them side by side to notice the subtle variation for the Lettered. It has a slighly grainier texture, where as the Numbered is a bit smoother, although they are the same color. The only other real difference is that the Lettered has a satin ribbon page marker.

I must say, the book fits very snugly into the traycase as it is, noticeably more so than the slipcase, so if the first shipment was even tighter then Barry definitely made the right choice to order new ones.

A very competant work overall, but any of you out there who were upset that you didn't get a chance to purchase the Lettered, rest assured, your Numbered is definitely sufficient, and a bargain relative to the Lettered's premium.

A final note: I thought it worth mentioning that I really think that King is barely making an effort anymore when it comes to his signatures. You would actually almost doubt the authenticity of his signature if it weren't a Signed/Limited. It barely looks like "Kg." Just an observation. Take that for what it's worth.

tippy4
04-25-2009, 11:22 AM
Thanks RF.

So we have a better case, leather cover that is difficult to differentiate from the numbered cover, and satin ribbon bookmarker.

Glad I stuck to the numbered. The upgrades don't seem worth the extra $300.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a nice looking book.

Who owns the prototype of The Regulators? Wasn't it one of a kind because of the number of bullets protruding through the box? Wasn't it in Gunkslinger's collection way back when (before he sold his King books)? My memory fades.

Your memory is good. The lettered prototype has three bullets rather than the four bullets in the finished edition. I bought it from Mike when he sold his King books.

But this isn't the new acquisition. I don't believe anyone has seen or heard of this one before. Hearing of its existence was certainly news to me.

To revisit, here are pictures (front and back) of the "three bullet prototype" alongside the "common" four bullet edition.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/regulatorsletteredandprototype2.jpg
How many of these prototypes were done? If more than one, do they have different check notations?
Any info would be helpful as Bob has graciously agreed that I can put this in our Collectible Catalog.

I would just like to add my own addition to this post. I have a signed numbered copy of The Regulators that is signed as Stephen King and NOT Richard Bachman. I bought it from Stu several years ago. It is not the prototype as it has a proper number, but it is still pretty cool to see.

Welcome to the forum. I have heard of such a copy that King supposedly signed as "Stephen King" by mistake. If you have a digital camera I'm sure that many members (including me) would like to see the check.

Hi there,

I am new to this site and I hope I do this right. I am attaching a photo of book. It is #133.

http://www.tvifoods.com/king/reg_numb_sk_2.jpg

The origin of my name is quite simple. Many moons ago, a very good friend of mine from Japan started collecting SK and when we met, we had a healthy competition with each other and a mutual love of the Matrix films. She was Trinity and I was Neo. Sadly, she passed away a few years back and my passion for collecting SK took a hiatus and I moved onto other areas of collecting, mainly Tolkien and Joyce as well as the US classics (Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Salinger, etc.)

If you are Bob Jackson, then Atsuko spoke very highly of you. She regarded you as a friend.

It looks like you have three checks framed and one affixed to the book. All three signed as Stephen King.

neo_trinity
04-27-2009, 03:48 PM
Yes,

The first 3 checks were signed as SK, before he realized the mistake and correctly signed them as Richard Bachman. They are #1,2 and 3. The checks were presented to Stephen matted to a cardboard paper so that they could be cut out and placed in the book. He had to get a replacement sheet issued. He wrote "Oops" and presented them to a charity in Bangor to auction them off. It was bought by Stu at Betts Books and hung on his wall for several years until I purchased it. I have never come across the signed limited #1,2 or 3 but would love to purchase them to have the complete set.

The check in my book was signed either by accident or a deliberate mistake just to be different.

No difference in the velvet color. The only differences are:
The Publisher's name on the spines of the slipcase and the book.
The signature sheet limitation (250 + 1000) and country. See photo.
The publisher on title page. See photo.

The UK one should be rarer as there were only 250 of them compared to the 1000 US ones.

OK, more...

I just received the Talisman/Blackhouse gift set from Grant that I won at auction a few weeks ago.

I opened up the shrinkwrap to check it out. The Talisman has a sig sheet signed by Straub and Berry, # 3210, but Black House has no such page.

Are both supposed to be signed or just Talisman?

Picked up the pecan colored wood case for He Is Legend. The case is lined-unlike the Dark Harvest wood cases, and for whatever reason, the back side is angled (bullnosed)-not sure of the term.
It is a nice case. Still smells fresh from varnishing.

YEEESSSSS !!!

http://club.stephenking.free.fr/img/NEWS/09mai/carrie-cosmo.JPG

Those are the first pages of the true first (french) "publication" of Carrie. (Ok i've checked cause i had a doubt, and i was talking crap).
An excerpt was published in the french Cosmopolitan during the summer 1976, while the book was published in april.

But still, have been looking for this excerpt for a long time! And although i didnt find an actual issue, I managed to get copies of it, from the copy being held at the french National Library.

This is a big relief, because I first recieved a batch of pages couple of months ago, but it was incomplete.... So I complained (knowing that it was mainly my mistake : i gave page numbers that werent 100% accurate apparently, but argueing that as I mentionned that I wanted the excerpt of the novel, i meant i wanted it all, not only few pages, and that I paid the minimum fee that was more that it actually was costing) and am glad I complained, cause they offered me the missing pages (instead of paying one more time the minimum fee... which was annoying :-) )

So now, i still have one problem : finding an actual issue for my collection
:arg:

I really like this illustration... It's quite... interesting!
You guys, enjoy, only a few people have seen it !!!

I think the other color was walnut, which would be darker.
Since the Trade and the S/L look the same, I'll just put a trade in the wooden slipcase (don't tell anyone, it's our secret).

Haven't received it yet so all kinds of things may still go wrong ;) but I want to share this anyway: I won a UK 1st/1st of The Shining for £88

It's probably ex-libris: the description listed traces of a sticker (previous owner's bookplate?) on one of the pastedowns, but the price on the DJ is there, the copyright page statement is there and page tanning, DJ wear etcetera don't seem to be too bad, so... I'm happy!

Well, I haven't posted in this thread for awhile but now I have something worthy of posting. I've kept in contact with Ned Dameron for awhile now. We've sent letters back and forth, etc. Today, I received something back that is not special because of it's monetary value, but of its sentimental value. I waited a long time to get this back and needless to say was thrilled when I got it today.

As some of you know, I have been deeply involved with the Grand Prize for this years Giveaway supporting the Haven Foundation fundraiser.

I was given a hardback Long Road Home book (from Daghain, thanks girl!) and obtained Peter David's signature at the NY ComicCon way back in early February. I then sent it to Jae Lee in Las Vegas, who graciously signed the book, and at my urging, drew a bonus sketch of the Crimson King. I then got Jae to give me Richard Isanove's contact info in Toronto, and Richard agreed to sign the book. After much effort, I just got the book back today and Richard took my hint and also drew a sketch on the signature page. The book will next get signed by Robin Furth and then Stephen King himself! Some lucky person will win this fabulous Pride and Joy item tomorrow night at the drawing.

Here is the book as it stands today:

As I have been obtaining signatures, one of my own personal books has gone along for the ride. Jae did not sketch in my book, but happily, Richard did. I will get Robin Furth's sig as well, but my book's journey ends there as King agreed to sign just one book, I'll have to get Steve's on my own.

Here is my book and my new Pride & Joy remarque from Richard.

Hmmm, I may be the "King of the remarques," but Ari certainly is "King of the Contests." He has won stuff from Ceri (SKFakes), Lilja, and on this site. Ari, do they have a national lottery in Argentina? Man, you should play!!!!!

You know...it's funny you mention that. I always considered myself very lucky. It's not that I win a lot of things (well..regarding King I might LOL), but I always celebrate when I win something, even when it's something very small like a movie in dvd, a poster, or something amazing like the star prize.
Well..the fact is that you're not the only one who told me to play the lottery here. It's not like USA's one, but still...this week's pot is for more than 4 million dollars.
A month ago I dreamt that I won it, and when I realized it was a dream while I was still dreaming, I said "I gotta remember the numbers". When I woke up, my girlfriend was in the computer, so I told her (with my sleepy voice yet) "Open a notepad and take note!"
and I gave her 5 numbers...because in my dream I won the lottery repeating a number (well...it was a dream...that's not allowed actually :P). I went to buy the ticket that afternoon. When the results appeared, I hit 3...and the other 3 I missed them by a number (I played 24, 37 and 39, and 25, 38 and 40 where the winners). It was pretty funny...but when I saw the first ones I "grabbed", well...I was pretty nervous! :D

If you ever see a post here from me where you see all the S/L editions available in my bookcase...well...that day's dream had the correct numbers ;)

Ari_Racing
05-20-2009, 06:37 PM
By the way...my girlfriend knows I'm a little bit crazy since the day we met, so it's not like she's not used already with my odd comments like the one of opening the notepad and give her 5 numbers. The good thing is that I didn't gave her the "LOST" numbers ;)

Yes it is. I purchased it for £88, which is a very good price IMO :) By the way, I also won a Rose Madder US ARC for £12.95. Would you consider this a good deal (I really have no clue about the value of the different proofs and ARCs)?

jhanic
05-31-2009, 07:54 AM
If you look at the prices for the US Rose Madder ARC, you'll see they go up from USD$10.

Rose Madder ARC/proof (http://used.addall.com/SuperRare/submitRare.cgi?author=stephen+king&title=ROSE+mADDER&keyword=proof&isbn=&order=PRICE&ordering=ASC&dispCurr=USD&binding=Any+Binding&min=&max=&timeout=20&match=Y&store=Abebooks&store=AbebooksDE&store=AbebooksFR&store=AbebooksUK&store=Alibris&store=Amazon&store=AmazonUK&store=AmazonDE&store=AmazonFR&store=Antiqbook&store=Biblio&store=Biblion&store=Bibliophile&store=Bibliopoly&store=Booksandcollectibles&store=Half&store=ILAB&store=LivreRareBook&store=Powells&store=Strandbooks&store=ZVAB)

And that was a good price on the UK Shining.

Sorry I didn't post the info before. Yes, The Mist in dvd with the pop up it's the Ultimate edition. The Mist in 3D is there as well (I gotta find a cassette player now! :D). The rest of the stuff:

- Spanish Newspaper with one of the stories present in Night Shift.
- Limited edition of Stephen King goes to the movies.
- IT . Special Spanish HC edition
- A book in spanish that contains a story I wrote.
- And the first HC spanish edition of Carrie. Sadly it doesn't had the DJ.

Bought the final volume of the Dark Tower in UK hardback off ebay the other day for £8, and brilliantly enough it arrived today!

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/DoctorDodge/DSC_0379.jpg

Sorry about the glare. Got a bit of a crap camera, tbh!

I did actually buy a hardback back in 2005, when i had JUST finished reading the trade paperback of Song of Susannah. Immediately i spent 25 quid on the only hardback i could find in town, and you can imagine how excited i was (like this :excited: ), especially with the sheer QUALITY of the hardback, when, to my surprise, shock, AND horror, i found out that there were 30 pages missing! And you can imagine how dissapointed i was (like this  ). Especially considering:

- When i returned the hardback, i found that there weren't any other copies ANYWHERE in town!
- The paperback was still months away!
- The trade paperback also has a SHIT cover! Ok, so the tower on the hardback doesn't look anything like how it's described, but it's still an awesome cover!

So whilst i did get the trade paperback, i'm still pretty pleased at owning a copy of the hardback edition! (like this :))

As much as I hate to say it, carlos, you are absolutely right! No sooner have i gotten my copy of the UK Dark Tower hardcover, than i want to get the UK hardcovers of WotC and SoS to replace the shitty trade paperback editions i've got! As gguthrie pointed out, the hardcovers are really well made after all. You know you've got a pretty decent quality book actually when it comes with a ribbon! That's it, that's all you fucking need: just a ribbon can justify ANY purchase!

I don't know the story, but it was actually published in France. I know Mike's had several other works published overseas. He mentioned to me in an e-mail:

In the month ahead, I'm supposed to be getting free copies of my new chapbook from France (first appearance in that country): a bilingual, French-English edition of the story "Skull Fragments" from 100 Jolts.
