It's not really the same as some of your amazing grabs that I've seen here but... I was at a car swap meet in Stafford Connecticut last weekend and while browsing (no bs on this) I spotted from about 20-30 feet away a book sitting on a table that I recognized at once and quickly made my way over afraid someone would grab it. It was a DT7 hard cover in absolutely beautiful condition for $12. Needless to say that I left a auto swap meet with a book.:)

I happened to stumble upon this little gem last week. It had just been listed on ABE and I had never heard of it before. It is called The Cure, written by Owen King and published by something called One Story. It is a short story published in stiff pale grey wrappers in December 2006. It is also signed by Owen. I bought it for $7 :o

I have not read it yet myself, but I did listen to Owen's reading of one of his recent short stories at the Three Kings Event in April, and I liked his style quite a lot. Parts were bizarre and disturbing, just like his dad. Funny, as a father of three kids myself, I cringed a little bit as Owen used the "eff" word and made some sexual references in his reading with both his parents sitting right there, even though he is a grown man himself...it was just a little bit weird.

Cool. I live right over the state line in Brookfield, Ma other side of Sturbridge. Small world, I always seem to be in and out of Stafford Springs now. Whethere for the paranormal invests I do or my Fathers girlfriends house. Fairfield is relatively close to Stratford is it not? I'm down there all the time to.:)

Thanks! I was waiting for someone to ask that very question. Those are Marvel Spotlight editions. I think they were given out are freebies by comic shops, but they were limited in number and were only available for a very short time. I don't think many people thought of them as collectible.

Those are very cool and something unique for you to have in your collection. Those (and your books with Whelan remarques) really set your collection apart from all others.

I've always thought that if you only collect books that others collect then your collection will always be like everyone elses. Finding a niche that others overlook or ignore is one way to set your collection apart.

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, Hutch has, rather quietly, assembled a staggering collection and has several books I do not have but would dearly love to own.

One area I really like, and no one else seems to or has the shelf space, is anthologies with King stories. The list is endless, it seems, and I am always coming across something I don't have or was even aware of. There are some really oddball anthologies out there. And then there are proofs of anthologies, nonfiction, introductions, etc., etc.

Congratulations, John, that is a rare one and I haven't seen one for sale in years. Interesting that the pagination is a bit different between our two copies. But, perhaps, not surprising since they were probably bound up in house.

From what I heard there are only 13 copies of that manuscript. I have one and if I remember correctly, I heard that somewhere at the time I bought it.

When those "Tom Gordon" manuscript proofs were released Tony at Camelot Books made some slipcases to hold them. They had the title and author stamped in gold on the spine of the slipcase. It's a long shot but it is possible that he still has one laying around in the back room. It might be worth an e-mail.

Also, where did you get it? If it was eBay or ABE I completely missed it.

I got it from one of the SKEMER members. I also got a slipcase with it. It sounds as if it is the slipcase from Camelot. The seller told me that he got it originally from Hutch, but it was a while ago.

I got mine from Hutch too. In 1999! It is hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago.

The one I sold this week I got from Rand a couple of years ago when he was listing parts of his collection. I'm not sure if I originally sold it to him. I may have.

I think originally I heard there were 13 copies and one of then even had a pencil notation from the publisher stating so.

Congratulations, Ari! CHRISTINE is a great one. The artwork by Gervais is very underrated, IMO, because it has never been printed in the trade editions. For the most part only owners of the S/L get to see it.

You know, I was confused by that too.

I have not actually received the book yet, but should any day now. I will let you know.

According to the Signed Collectibles (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=2319) section of this website, the book should have a numberline that reads 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1.

Anyone know what the original issue price for this book was? I find it unlikely that it went for the same price as the "unsigned" version at £16.99.

I've never seen a S/L 2nd edition of this. They have all been 1st/1st with full numberline.

My new pride and joy is are two matching bookshelves that I custim ordered from a company that provided my office with some furniture a few years ago. It took a lost order, countless delays and more delays to deliver 2 shelves that were missing, but in the end, I got everything. I am disappointed in the look of the outside, but the functionality is perfect: 15" deep reinforced shelves with locking opaque doors to keep out dust and sunlight. 6 feel tall and 3 feet wide. With the bookcase I had before, I now have almost enough room for all the books I own. I still have 5 boxes that I plan to sell or donate to charity. I now have almost enough room for all the books I own.

Very nice display. They look great. Isn't it a shame, though, when you get new bookcases you have "almost" enough room. It's the universal lament of the book collector. We fill up every available inch of space and still need more.

It is a private company that does only corporate jobs. Since I had ordered a bunch of furniture for our offices, they agreed to to this retail order. It took them almost 6 months to fill it, and then with problems. I was not a happy camper all summer.

As for "goodies," there are a few, but I am just not organized. What I should do is just make a list for you all of what is available, sans pictures and all. I am intimidated about taking a bazillion pictures as I probably have 40 books or more I am willing to sell. Some are pretty simple 1st edition UK copies of later books, but I do have some S/L's, ARCs etc.

Thats what I'm considering too. I pre-ordered this copy with the intention of going to the bookstore on release day to get the normal cover. If they have extra copies of the Collector's Set, I'll likely get a second.

Hi everyone. Sorry, I am absolutely swamped at the office today catching up on everthing I missed yesterday and various company reports this morning.

Had a really great time at the reading. The drive up was nasty with rush hour traffic and several spots of torrential rainfall.

My son and I arrived before Karen and her husband so we saved two seats inside for them. They arrived maybe 40 minutes before the start of the interview program at 7pm.

The program started off very slow and it was hot in the auditorium. The organizers did an Academy Award - type speach thanking 40 different people for their hard work....getting it all put together. Then the two authors (King and Russo) came out onto the stage with the moderator. I thought the moderator was a bit of a dope, and the discussion started off a bit slow...plus the sound system for the authors' microphones was pretty horrible (whining, feedback, volume). But the discussion gathered steam and it turned out to be fairly lively with some humorous parts. The last question put to the authors was by far the best (it came from a pre-submitted pool by the audience). Question was: What is your favorite curse word?

Well, Stephen gave a longish, comedic answer that I liken to a George Carlin routine, citing such phrases as "shit or go blind" and "I don't give a tin shit" and what the hell do those things REALLY mean? It was pretty funny and generated lots of laughs. Russo's story centered on the (I can't put it in here) C*#t word and how men vs. women use that word.

Overall, I gave the interview/discussion a 5 out of 10. Worthwhile but hardly riveting.

Afterward, they organized the book signing. Each ticket had a number from 100-500+. They put two long tables on stage, King at one, Russo at the other and called groups of numbers. 100-150 to start, and so on. Upon entering the auditorium, you received your 1st edition Just After Sunset (if you had purchased the $50 or $125 ticket that got you a place in the signing line). So when you number group was called you filed up onto stage. A handler took your ticket (which Karen stole back for us later), you handed your book to another handler sitting next to King who opened it up to the title page and then slid it over to him to sign. He looked up at me ever so briefly before he signed my book, then started to sign. As he signed I told him that Michael Whelan sent his regards (which he does), but that usually makes him pause and gives me an opportunity to pass a couple words with King, but this time no. He grunted something inaudible, finished signing and began to look up at the next person. I then said to King, here is a little gift from your fand at thedarktower.org and slid two rubber wrist bands in front of him that Daggers brought to Vegas. One was black and said "Hile Gunslinger" and the other was red and said "All hail the Crimson King." Both also said www.thedarktower.org. He didn't even look directly at them, but slid them to his side out of the way. So, I have no idea if he looked at them later, threw them away or what, but I did try to give a plug to us here on the site.

We saw some other people from the site (Sam Catoe was one, I'm sorry, I do not remember the names of the others. My bad) and a few SKEMERs (CJ, the most prominent) and taked to them for a bit. MY son and I were on the road by 9:30 and home at 11pm.

No pics from me from the event. They were pretty strict about saying NO PICTURES, so I did not bother to bring one. Obviously, some pics were taken. Will have to let Karen posts hers.

In my experience the most memorable parts were interacting with fellow fans before and after the signing rather than the signing itself. I'm glad ya'll had a good time and it's too bad King wasn't a little more outgoing during the signing line.

Today is my day, apparently. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been in close contact with a bookseller in the UK that brought to us the Miller remarqued copies of the Colorado Kid (Ralph is and remains this guys's key contact). He arranged himself for the three artists of The Colorado Kid, Miller, Chadbourne and Potter, to do a set of 26 remarques for the book so he could put together lettered sets to sell. I just was offered today and paid for Lettered set A of these books. The 3 books will come housed in a custom slipcase. Here is the set I purchased just a few moments ago:

He is charging slightly more for sets A and Z. He invoiced me in $$ and I paid $560 incl. shipping. That works out to $183 per book that has original artwork.

Steve's eBay offering have been and remain a bit confusing. He sometimes has the same book listed with greatly different prices. I remember I paid almost $300 for the first Miller remarque I bought but then paid less than $200 for the second.

Contact him directly. Give me a few minutes and I will post some other images that he sent me. There are not 26 DIFFERENT images from each artist. I do not know how many each, but I think Potter did maybe 4, the others not sure, but definitely not 26.

A US 1st edition of Headhunter, the first Slade book. Signed and inscribed to presumably an interviewer. Its unique in that it is signed "Michael Slade" as opposed to "Slade" as well as the fact that is signed by all three authors (the three who at that point made up the Slade pen name). And, as an added bonus it is dated in the year of publication.

That and the name of the guy the book is inscribed to make me dedicate this acquisition to Bob.

I thought I had overpaid for this book, but it was unique and I wasn't upset if I had. I sent an email to Jay Clarke (the main voice of Slade) and got this response:


That would be one of the first books "Slade" ever signed. The Morrow HH came out in June 1985.

"Bob" would be Bob Frederick, a producer who did a CBC documentary on us.

How cool is that?!

You've added some very sweet stuff to your collection, Nate. But I need to correct you on something.....the variant Gunslinger auction wasn't overlooked....you just outbid me on it. Congratulations!

I remembered that I outbid you, I should have said a less noticed auction. As the only mention of it's advance issue was in the auction description I think a lot of people missed it. I know the market it down right now but I think it would have been out of my price range had it been marketed better.

It was in New Zealand but it is probably the one you are thinking of. It only cost me about $25 with shipping so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

The Doctor's Case proof is neat. I have never seen one with loose pages like that. Mine has a couple of staples along the left side to bind them together and I think Chris Cavalier's (the only other one I know of) was stapled too.

I am undecided as to whether or not open the DVD. If I wasn't paying for three college tuitions right now I would leave it and get a second copy, but economically thinking I might just open it. I do not plan on selling anyways so no harm no fowl as they say!

It does say on the DVD slipcase that the 25 episodes are there as well as two other things - can't remember right now - and can't check either - but I think one was The Making of N or something like that?

I say open it. I plan to open mine and finally watch the story. IMO, like most recent King releases, this one will have no premium attached to it in the future whether opened or not. I predict we can buy an unopened edition in a year or two (if we even care to) at a big discount.

Ditto on the stinky Amazon packing. Nothing. Just the box. What is up with that? Oh well, mine did survive and are relatively unscathed. I haven't looked at them extremely closely ( I got two ) but my cursory glance showed all well.

I will say that if anyone had issues - they should return them and let Amazon know. I've never had any issues with returning things to Amazon and they're usually good about covering return shipping if the issue is theirs.

Oh, and I'm not opening my DVD :nope:

As you may know, Steve Sargent in the UK contacted the three artists for the Colorado Kid, and they agreed to do remarques in 1st trade editions for Steve to sell. Thanks to our own Ralph Mulleins who is Steve's first contact on this project and who alerted us to their existence. Steve first obtained I think 10 Miller remarques which he has nearly sold out of. Then he did a much larger undertaking, asking the three artists to do remarques in 26 books which Steve would then sell as Lettered sets.

Potter and Miller did quite a few different remarques for this program (Miller the most varied in terms of theme; Potter did mostly skulls but also several others), while Chadbourne basically did a lighthouse or an hourglass with subtle differences to each.

I purchased 2 Miller remarques to begin with, then when the Lettered sets became available, I purchased Letter A (Ralph I believe opted for Letter K as the first set sold). Then Steve purchased my partial DT set last Friday and paid me cash + another set of 3 remarques.

So, now I own 8 Colorado Kid remarques, images that I will now post. The first 2 are the original Miller ones I bought, the second set is Letter A and the third set are the new ones (Letter D) that are on the way. There are a few reasons why I chose the ones I did. First, living in the Northeast, I love lighthouses, so when I first saw Letter set A and Chadbourne's image of the lighthouse, I knew I wanted that set, whatever the two other artist images were. Then, when I got to pick 3 more images as partial payment for my ST sets, I thought it would be cool to have a Miller lighthouse as well. Also, since I had a Miller remarque of the dead guy leaning against the trash can on the beach, I chose a Potter version of the same image to match.

Actually, their price had decreased. I called them a few days after the signing and the regular signed trades was being offered at $250 by the bookstore. I was not aware that they had signed collector's editions. I guess the regular trade did not sell as well as expected.

The Collector Set is a first edition with a DVD of the adaptation of "N". The DVD is in a slipcase bound into the back of the book. Additionally the dustjacket has "reversed" colors-orange on the front with black lettering, black on the back with orange lettering.

I went for the signed collector's set for this reason:

I'm not sure how many of these are signed. I see the normal First Edition Just After Sunset pop up for sale on Ebay and other places. But the collectors set, I haven't seen signed until now.

Did anyone here go to the signing? Did they offer just the first edition or could you get the collectors edition signed? For some reason, I think the collectors edition was an Amazon exclusive. I haven't seen it local.

I sort of feel the collectors set is a first run type deal. We won't see it again in other editions. Could be wrong though.

I had trouble locating a Collector's Edition locally also. I don't think all the stores got them, and, when I finally did locate them, the store had kept them in the back--not put them out on display. I picked up two (one for me and one for super-sam) at that time. This was at a Barnes & Noble. They had no discount on the Collector's Edition, although they offered 20% on the trade.

I've heard that Odyssey had about 40 copies of the signed Collector's Edition.

I'm not sure how many of these are signed. I see the normal First Edition Just After Sunset pop up for sale on Ebay and other places. But the collectors set, I haven't seen signed until now.

Actually, I didn't do much. I'm always very kind, try to give something back whenever I can and try to help if I see that something can be improved.

As for the ARCs, I've been reviewing books in spanish for our magazine for more than 6 years already. At first no one sent me one, but then I started to become known for the contacts inside the publishers, and that makes things a lot easier. :)

Tonight I'll post pictures of the items. The JAS signature is in a bookplate stamped in the book. :)

As you may know, Steve Sargent in the UK contacted the three artists for the Colorado Kid, and they agreed to do remarques in 1st trade editions for Steve to sell. Thanks to our own Ralph Mulleins who is Steve's first contact on this project and who alerted us to their existence. Steve first obtained I think 10 Miller remarques which he has nearly sold out of. Then he did a much larger undertaking, asking the three artists to do remarques in 26 books which Steve would then sell as Lettered sets.

Potter and Miller did quite a few different remarques for this program (Miller the most varied in terms of theme; Potter did mostly skulls but also several others), while Chadbourne basically did a lighthouse or an hourglass with subtle differences to each.



Well, Dave and Ralph started the ball rolling on these THE COLORADO KID sets and I just sort of followed in their footsteps. I got letter "B". These are really nice sets and the slipcase (which I had not seen before) is nice too.

Those are nice editions...Steve Sargent actually offered a set for one of my DT VIIs, but I wanted cash for those, not more books...and...Colorado Kid is my least favorite King story of all! haha...

I sort of wish I was an art collector just so I would have been more eager to get these...they did a good job, and I like the 'lettering' concept.

That's a nice haul, Ari. Interesting bookplate! I wonder if it is meant to be thematic in some way? It's been awhile since I have read most of the short stories.

Did the person from whom you got the book with the signed bookplate give you any background on the signing or the bookplate?

The illustration in the bookplate is the same as on the back of the envelope of the DVD that's included in the Collector's Edition of Just After Sunset. It illustrates the stones in "N.".
