look what I got in the mail today! WOOT!

That's definitely a nice one. I was able to score this through Barnes & Noble (back when CD still sold through them; I'm not sure if they still do, especially with the Doubleday Years line), and with my B&N member discount, it was embarrassingly cheap.

Thanks everyone :)

2M have been completed already (close to 5% of our population) since December. Some states have been faster than others and I live in one of the fastest ones so far (Buenos Aires), which is already giving the vaccine to people from 18 to 59 that have a precondition (in my case it's asthma). Despite those who don't want to receive it, it's expected that all the population older than 18 would be inmunized by June.

Its only a picture book for children, but its signed and remarqued from the most productive and one of the most
famous illustrators, the late Celestino Piatti.

Celestino Piatti
(born January 5, 1922 in Wangen; † December 17, 2007 in Duggingen,
was a Swiss graphic+ceramic artist, painter and book designer.
In total, Piatti created over 6300 book covers, picture books and book illustrations; the total circulation of the books designed by him so far is over 200 million copies. Its sad that he only created one Stephen King bookcover, for the German softcover
first ed. Brennen muß Salem.

Longer story, some time ago I had given away my
TB first Brennen Muß Salem
with the amazing cover from the late Celestino Piatti at the Secret Santa..
Had thought that it would be easy to find an other NICE copy
for my collection... it wasn't.

Now, i found a Celestino Piatti collector who just sold his complete CP collection,
there were still a few items left, including a copy of the TB I'm looking for.
I asked about the price, it was great. Then I asked about the prices of the last paintings,
but they were far beyond my price range. I told the collector that one of my collecting goals
is an original by every illustrator I realy like. The collector then told me that he had something for me thats maybe something for me, another signed first edition with a small drawing/remarque.
I, of corse bought it immediately.... a few days later the collector informed me that he sold his other, expensive
original paintings from Celestino Piatti, for $$$$$...

Very nice. A hard book to find (in any HC edition) in really good shape now. This book (in general) has been on my mind a lot the last few years as a bona fide monumental King title that has gotten short shrift- in both the collecting consciousness, and in the unending limited edition reprint deluge. This may be the title that I'd MOST like to have in a nice, new, readable, collectible edition. It's literally the direct sequel to Lovecraft's equally monumental Supernatural Horror In Literature, and an invaluable insight to why we are all here.

I'm told there were ~300-350 copies with a signed bookplate in them. These copies have a different ISBN than the unsigned copies. Retail was $12.99, limit one PP. I had to call around, and the nearest store to me was 35 miles. I knew that had a couple, as they told me so.

Not an acquisition one can touch but surely one I'll never forget:

Charlotte Hobbs Library uploaded the video of Stephen King's event from January 28th, 2021.

For me it was an incredible virtual event. First Moira was a really great host. Then Stephen King READ from Salem's Lot, which I found incredible). The talk was very nice and smooth, and then I had this incredible moment where my question was read but before that he said to me Happy Birthday.
It just can't get better than that!

Here you can watch it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkHN2O1TweY

At 36:40 Moira reads my question and well...I can't ask more for a birthday, right? 🙂

I was able to get a signed In the Tall Grass in the Chicago area. I live only about 34 miles away for the bookstore. I got there a couples minutes after they opened and I ended up getting the last one.

They had 5 total signed copies and I just assumed they'd be long gone by the time I got there. Apparently someone had been waiting since 3:30 am.

Also no, I don't have an asking price.
PM me If interested in discussing.

Thanks for posting this, Ari! I wasn't aware of it but I'm glad I was able to now watch. Congratulations on the Birthday shoutout!

Today I got an incredible package from Bob Jackson. And while I love to finally own one of the Salem's Lot S/L, the magazines/newspaper have been on my hunt list for a lot of years and are the ones that got most of my attention and excitement. That Maine magazine has the first publication of One for the Road and is one of the most elusive 1st appereances: I only saw one for sale, it was in 2014 and it sold for $1100.
Couldn't be more happy and definitely can't thank Bob enough, as always. 😊

One thing I learnt in more than 20 years collecting is to be patient. Every single package I order takes more than 20 days to arrive (one took 120 days once...) and I got my share of lost or damaged. So when Independent Bookstore day took place I ordered an extra quote of patience 😁 and began contacting different bookstores aiming for a signed copy of In the Tall Grass. Not only I couldn't find any for hours but I could not order regular copies from most of the websites since they shared the same ordering system that only allows billing addresses from USA and Canada. I kept on going and, at 9.20 pm, a very good friend of mine pointed me one bookstore that I hadn't contact yet. 12 minutes later I got the reply shown in the first pic.

And then, since luck decided to give me an extra round, a couple of days later I saw here this copy of Colorado Kid for a great price and I was the first one to call Dibs. I must say that I'm impressed by the quality of this edition and I got it for less than cover price. ❤

Today I received both packages. 🥰

Nothing as fancy as Ari's, but I collect comics and graphic novels based on Stephen King.

This is not one per se. But I have been looking for one at an ok price since a few years.

Did you know that back in 2016, Arrow Video released a limited edition of "Creepshow 2" with a booklet of a graphic novel adaptation of "Pinfall"?
Origianlly "Creepshow 2" was supposed to include 5 stories, but because of budget reasons ended up with only 3.

The other two were "The cat from hell" (that would end up in "Tales from the darkside, the movie"), and "Pinfall".
A story that was at some point in the past considered to be from Stephen King.
But was from George Romero.

From the Arrow Film version, only the RED version includes the booklet.
From the past couple of years, there were no copies for less than 150 euros, which I found was too much to spend on that.
But those past few weeks quite a few copies ended up on ebay at roughly 50 euros + shipping.
So I got one, and there are still a few on ebay (https://ebay.us/2neyja)
> But beware, I could be wrong but I think that only the RED version has the booklet? Dont hesitate to check pictures and ask sellers

Haven’t shared in awhile, thinner 1st inscription to Richard Manuel, the friend of Kirby McCauley that stood in for King in the dustjacket of the first edition. King’s thanks to him for “being him”. Overjoyed with this addition right now.

Ari, that pop-up is awesome; Ned Dameron is absolutely one of my favorites.

Yeah, I know it's not King but this is without a doubt my newest Pride and Joy, and it's a cool one; a dual platinum album presentation celebrating sales of 1 million copies each of John Lennon's "Imagine" and "Shaved Fish" from John Lennon and Yoko Ono to San Francisco RKO Radio personality Dave Sholin. On December 8, 1980, Dave Sholin visited The Dakota hotel in New York City and interviewed Lennon and Ono in their apartment; later that same day Lennon was assassinated. That session is now known as "The Last Interview".

The presentation piece is from the memorabilia collection of Sholin's fellow California DJ "Mr Ed" Lambert who passed away in 2020. It's freakin' huge in-person as you can see by the photo of my daughter holding it, they're set in a 2-inch deep shadowbox-style frame on floating mounts with a plexiglass cover. You can listen to or read Lennon's "The Last Interview" at this link: http://www.beatlesarchive.net/john-lennons-last-interview-december-8-1980.html

It's been an exiting month or two:

CDCC glasses and an inexpensive Just after sunset collectors edition. (the middle glass has an STRONG rum and coke (diet pepsi actually), hence why it is sideways, and explains any typo's in this post)

Or P to the layman. I believe the seller I bought it from is selling all of her Lettered Suntups (didn't see Misery listed). Go to harperwildeco.com

I panicked when I didn't see the letter, until I remembered they were done in Morse code. The . - - . just looked like some kind of separator. (I also
panicked again when the first page a googled for Morse code showed something different for letter P). Even though I already had the portfolio and
cross to match my numbered, I went ahead and bought them to match the lettered.

Six years ago I made an exchange with my friend Jim Carpenter for a new and flawless The Gunslinger 1st DJ. I didn't have a copy of the book at that moment but I knew that one day a good deal was going to be in front of me and I was going to need one, and that day took place ten days ago.
Until today my collection didn't have a Gunslinger 1st. Lucky for me I was quick enough to pull the trigger on one very nice priced for today's standard.

One more for the collection and one less to search for. I'm still missing The Maine Review mag. so if you have one or know of someone... I'm in. 😊

Very cool, congratulations. I know it’s not King related but still a great P&J. When I saw this it reminded me are a related encounter I had. I’ll put it in spoilers so anyone not interested can skip it
Several years ago my wife and I are at a local restaurant enjoying a round of drinks. The gentleman sitting next to us strikes ups a conversation and is telling us some funny stories and jokes. At some point I realize it is Tommy Smothers. We end up having a delightful afternoon and without allowing any argument he picks up our tab. A few months later I’m watching a John Lennon documentary and I am totally surprised when I see the part about the Montreal “Bed-In” and live recording of “Give Peace A Chance”. Guess who is sitting on the bed with John and Yoko playing guitar, the one and only Tommy Smothers. I’m thrill to see this but disappoint that I didn’t know about this before I met Tommy. I would have loved to have asked him about this iconic moment not only in music history but the peace movement.
Fast-forward to a few years ago. My wife and I, along with another couple fell into a last minute dinner reservation at a very hard to get into restaurant due to a cancelation. When we arrive and are shown to our table we see Tommy. We briefly say hello and then I can’t stop thinking about my missed opportunity. A short time later Tommy comes over and sits down in the booth next to one of our friend, just to be funny. I’m trying to figure out how to ask him about Montreal and then I hear my wife invite him to join us for dinner. He declines because he is with a friend. We then invite his friend and point out that the 4 of us are at a table for 8, and 2 more would comfortably fit. Thankfully they decide to join us. After introductions; I grab my chance and recap our previous meeting and ask if he would be willing to tell us about the 1969 ‘Bed-In”. His eyes lit up and an incredible smile came across his face. Without hesitation he begins telling us about that day. One of my favorite stories about that afternoon was how John was so upset with Tommy. As Tommy explained it; he wasn’t playing up to John’s standards and John wanted him to get it together and quickly or he would need to leave. I’m happy to report Tommy got his act together and the rest is history. At the end of the stories Tommy just starts singing the chorus. It was truly incredible to hear an intimate recounting of that day directly from someone that was not only there but truly a part of it. A bit later in the evening and something odd happened; Tommy asked me if I wanted to arm wrestle? For some reason I agreed and kept thinking to myself “careful, you don’t want to hurt him”. Well the only thing hurt was my pride as I was schooled by an 80+ year old Tommy. Tommy was then kind enough to teach me a technique and I was able to somewhat redeem myself in a rematch. As the evening wound down Tommy and his friend were quietly have a disagreement. After Tommy left the table his friend shared that they were auguring over their bill. Tommy always pays and his friend was insisting that it was his turn. His friend prevailed and they both left a short time later. As we enjoyed the end of the evening we notice our waiter was nowhere to be found, we let the manager know that we would like to leave and just need to pay our bill. He smiled and said it had already been taken care of.
It was, without a doubt, a night to remember.

Here is a photo of the match.
I’m laughing in reaction to just having lost the first two rounds.

Properly speaking, these questions don't belong here (apologies), but since those able to answer them can probably be found here, this is where I'm putting them:

Concerning these three editions of Salem's Lot:
- Centipede Press
- Cemetery Dance (the only one of these I own (but I have not read it))
- Doubleday "illustrated" edition (ISBN: 0385516487)

Re: Photos:
Given:
Both the Centipede and Doubleday editions have the Jerry Uelsmann photos.

Question:
Are they the same, or does one edition have some the other lacks? (I know the Cemetery Dance edition has its own artwork and lacks these photos altogether)

Re: Text:
Given:
The Centipede edition includes "deleted scenes from the original manuscript."

The Doubleday includes "fifty pages of material deleted from the 1975 manuscript as well as material that has since been modified by King, an introduction by him, and two short stories related to the events of the novel..." and says "this edition represents the text as the author envisioned it."

The Cemetery Dance edition includes "many deleted scenes that were cut from the original manuscript" and "the short stories 'Jerusalem's Lot' and 'One for the Road'..."

Questions:
- Does the extra material vary at all between editions?

- Is the main text of the novel altered at all in any of the editions, or is the additional text simply presented outside (that is, before or after) the text of the novel? The Doubleday mention of "material that has since been modified by King" and description of their edition as representing "the text as the author envisioned it" make me wonder about this.

(FYI: I'm not concerned about the two short stories - I have them in multiple copies of Night Shift as well as the CD Salem's Lot - unless they differ in some way).

New and interesting signed King item I just received - The Seventh World Fantasy Convention Reader. I'm not sure how rare it is to find a King signature in this limited edition but I've only ever seen a few and this one is very unique. I would love to know if anyone else has a copy where he's written his address.

I recieved a second rare french press copy of "Bag of bones" today
I am quite happy with it given its rarity, but something intrigues me : it is slightly different from my prevous copy.

One copy has something printed on the book spine, this new copy doesnt have anything on the book spine.
Which makes me wonder how book spines are dealt with : isn't it just the same one sheet of paper, then folded and "glued"/pressed or whatever on the front?

Or are the bookspines "printed" afterwards?
Which would seem odd to me

Both of my french review copies of "Bag of bones", reprinting a letter by King

The spine from the new copy I recieved yesterday

https://club-stephenking.fr/wp-content/uploads/images/collection-herbertwest/Collecting/misc/2021/sacdos-sp-albin/sacdos--01.jpg

Compared to the other copy ("Sac d'os" : on the left is the other review copy, on the right the 'normal' book)

https://club-stephenking.fr/wp-content/uploads/images/collection-herbertwest/Collecting/misc/2021/sacdos-sp-albin/sacdos--02.jpg

So I wonder how "spines" are dealt with in the printing process?
Surely it's an entire printed "page", no?

In the case of both my review copies, all the printing infos are the same inside the book

A huge thanks to Jerome for providing me the opportunity to own one of these rebounds. A total of 23 photos so I've placed them all in spoiler tags.

Couldn't pass this one up! Thanks to another TDT member, my Dark Tower proof set is nearly complete. Just looking for the 1st state of DTII (Orange cover with no sticker). Stoked to have this one as I only know of two other people with a copy (Alec & David at Betts).

WOW! Congrats! I really like this edition of the Gunslinger - it's the first edition I read - and have never seen the proof of it before - not even in pictures. Thanks for posting!

Been a LONG time since I posted in this thread, but here is the background...At Betts, I had a high-end customer that asked me to HOLD his purchases for him 11 years ago....I did so (the ONLY person I have or will do this for)...he passed away 14 months ago without a will (unbeknownst to me)...There was a "fight" between his girlfriend of 10+ years and his estranged family, who both wanted his items (about $175,000 worth)....after 14 months, the two parties agreed to settle...family got most, girlfriend got some. The family picked up their "haul" today and I was able to convince them to sell me two Carrie 1st editions....what makes these special is that the two were inscribed to sisters who lived in the same building as King his senior year at Orono...They both attended his wedding and he theirs. My customer (RIP) got one of the sisters to recount her meeting King etc, which I find fascinating. Both Carrie books are inscribed April 16, 1974. I think that is the first King signed these at an event at U Maine-Onono. I have not seen an earlier date. So here are the inscriptions to the two sisters and a photo of the letter one of the sisters wrote. A good read. She wrote it long hand (which I have) but also typed it up.

Thank you! The books are NOT in the best of shape nor the DJ's...I got these both for the date and the inscriptions. DJs are maybe VG-...books a little better.
