Picked up a few things this month but these are P&J's:

https://i.ibb.co/sPdhmww/Thinner-Erosion.jpg

A just about perfect Thinner from David (looks like it's never been read, clean, spotless..)and my favorite author Terry Tempest Williams new book signed.

Guess I'm going to need a slipcase for that Thiiner.

Picked up another Whelan piece from the Knowing Darkness set. Not sure if this is Trashcan Man, or just a zombie. It's currently at the framing shop.

I think i was well behaved this year...i got something great from the Nicolaus.

TKS A LOT TO BEV VINCENT and Björn Ian Craig !!!

Some weeks ago, the Swiss illustrator Björn Ian Craig told me that he wanna ask Bev Vincent if its possible to send him
a bookplate to sign, special created for FLUG und ANGST.
Bev said yes and Björn asked me if I would like one too, my answer was...... YES.

The best place to buy the book was of course the airport.

Beautiful stuff! Congrats! For me, Rosemary's Baby my favorite Suntup's book to date. Not taking anything away from any of the other stunners, but that book (ESPECIALLY the numbered) is perfect. The story and the design and the materials and the art(!) all come together in one incredible harmony. Really, if a human being can be in love with an inanimate object, then I'd have to say that maybe i should stop this sentence right here.

I took a chance on a water damaged Gunslinger First Edition. It's in much (much) better condition than I was expecting, and I'll be happy to put it on my shelf. Other than the SK signed limiteds, I have almost all of the books published by Grant but I thought I'd have to wait longer to get this one. Here's a picture with his baby brother (first on the right, second on the left):

I got two amazing gifts before Christmas and none can have a pic, actually. :P

The first one because I'm not allowed to do so nor mentioning it but I can say I expected to receive it in May/June 2020. ;) The publisher I'm related to learnt about my job issue and decided to cheer me up. It worked beyond expectations!

The second one has to do with HBO: I was hired with a good friend of mine to be the official radio hosts of THE OUTSIDER's HBO podcast. There will be 10 episodes and each of the podcast episode will be up by HBO on the day after the show's episode. And they'll pay me a very nice sum of money for this. :)

The downside of all these great news came from my former employee: they didn't pay me what they were supposed to so it goes legal starting tomorrow. It might take up to 4-5 years for me to collect the money but well...maybe we settle soon.

Why is there a lettered copy of the regular numbered edition?

Munnecom
12-27-2019, 11:24 PM
That means it's a subscriber copy. Way back when, PS Publishing sold lifetime subscriptions. The buyers got to choose what they wanted their number field to say. I have copy R of Thinner.

Here's the email I got from one of the head honchos at PS when I enquired about this:

We have a group of LIFETIME SUBSCRIBERS who paid a large sum of money a long time ago. This meant that each of the Lifetimers receive all of the signed editions of our books printed under the PS logo. This customer has chosen to have the letter ‘R’ put on all of his books.

PS did it, Suntup did it... CD, Subpress, Lonely Road and even the new Letterpress has one. Its a great way for start up cash and to get their name out there. I’m sure they pay off 90% of the time too.

Ah, that makes sense.
My Subpress Game of Thrones number actually belongs to a lifetimer who doesn't collect them. In that case it's just a low number in the regular edition, so I didn't even realize that some publishers used a different system.

Alternatively it was the BEST decision of mine.

BUT that is gambling and investment. I mean I read today that the hugest performing stock of the last decade was Netflix. A $77 investment today is worth $25k US. Magine that. 30000% increase on your money. “IF you had only known”.....

Rick Berry is an awesome artist. Not surprised he is reluctant to do this. Those books are near priceless now.

A long time ago, I bought 4 prints of the Talisman and Black House variety. He only charged for 3 items. When I informed him of the error, his reply was that he is an artist, and admin not his priority, and I was to enjoy the extra art courtesy of him.

Very generous, as the print was a decent price, and charging the card wasn't that hard to do, so very very kind of him.

Rick Berry

I will share a story from a few years ago 2013. Many years ago I taught Rick's son in high school. I had the pleasure of speaking to Rick a few times - very interesting man. Years later, as I began to collect remarques in my books, I reached out him through his wife. They remembered me and were generous and invited me to their annual "DeadDog" party, which they hold after the Boston SciFi/Fantasy convention. The party was held in Rick's studio in Medford (not sure if he is still there). It was an unusual group of individuals (writers, artists, art directors) - I was lucky enough to spend some time talking to Robert K. Weiner (president of Donald M. Grant) and with Rick. It was a very artsy night of conversation. Rick's art was on display everywhere. Needless to say, Rick did five remarques for me: two in my Talisman artist limited edition, one in my Black House limited edition, and two more in the artist edition of The Talisman/Black House (Sold these last two two years ago to Pennywise). Gotta say that my remarques pale in comparison to Kris' - I think that Rick was new to the whole remarque industry at the time, and in truth, he seemed uncomfortable with the whole notion. That's about it. Just thought I'd share.

Yep, Rick and his wife Sheila are aces. Since we are talking about Rick, here is something I have to share.
I don't know the correct textbook term, but i am really drawn to his 'impressionistic' style of art. When Suntup announced that Rick was going to be doing the art for MISERY, i was really excited to see what he would come up with and i wasn't disappointed. I fell in love with the Gift cover as soon as I saw it. The snowy landscape is both beautiful and bleak at the same time. But then you see that ominous peek of colour from the car that hints at something more sinister.
Rick was kind enough to allow me to purchase the original painting - after a little convincing from Sheila on my behalf - and it is one my favorite pieces. Oddly it generates more conversation than any other piece in my collection. Some digital alterations were done before sending the file for printing and Rick touched it up a little before sending it to me, but here is the original painting created for the Suntup MISERY gift edition

Not impressionistic I don't think, too many details especially on the upside-down car … not quite sure what I'd label this style. Rick Berry style? Whatever it is, it's pretty sweet!

Aren't they both great productions? I love Desperation from Grant. It's a really solid book. And of course the GE of Misery has that feel that's way beyond what a GE should be like.
Congrats.

just another nut job here.....many of you know that in addition to being a Dark Tower junkie, I also LOVE Shawshank/Different Seasons...I just bought an inscribed 1st printing of Different Seasons with this inscription:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/Seasons19.jpg

I personally have a "thing" for Lardass Hogan....First time I heard King read part of the story was at the 2/2/02 Wavedancer event for Frank Muller in NYC. I ended up buying the CD and I play it annually for my family...all 3 of my kids (now grown!) can recite the damned CD (my heart leaps for joy)....my #2 son just texted me this week "you've got to pace yourself if you want to hold out" taken straight from the story. A very proud father I am....

Aaaaaaaand the big reveal!

While browsing the Collectible Classifieds back on Oct 26 I came across DoctorZaius' ad for "Salem's Lot, Signed/Limited #186". As that's "my" matching number I was pretty happy to see it and of course dropped Greg a note asking details and price. I figured it was the CD or PS edition; it never even OCCURED to me that it might be the Centipede edition ... until he came back with a price a whole lot higher than I was expecting! It actually didn't process when I first read it, I was thinking "He's outta his mind" until it hit me that it had to be the CP. Absolutely floored me, wasn't even on my radar for ever finding!

A few quick emails (mostly me saying "Holy Shit!") and the deal was done; couldn't be happier to receive this one in! A huge shout out to Greg for hooking me up!

I bought it on release, received number 172 about 16 years ago

Keeping on theme with George’s post, here’s something you don’t see everyday. Forgive me for the artsy photos, but since I never dreamed I’d be taking pictures of my own copy of this book, I couldn’t resist going a little overboard.

Here’s the story, I happened to take a tired glance at eBay around 3 AM my time, just before closing my eyes and going to sleep, and saw this beauty freshly listed by a seller in Australia. I knew if I slept on it the book would be gone by the time I woke up, or somebody would have bid on it (it was an auction with BIN option), so I had to make a quick decision. While I was tempted to bid myself, I had no doubt in my mind that an auction would end up going over the BIN price. Or just as bad, an eager buyer would contact the seller and try to make a deal outside of eBay, and the seller might cancel any bids and end the listing. So I basically had two choices: I could buy it or I could always regret not buying it.

As you can see, I went with the first option, so I am delighted to share with you 1 of the 4 unnumbered deluxe copies of the Centipede Press Salem’s Lot.

I don’t have much left to get but after securing Carrie lettered.... I just needed this one to get all the editions. Meaning every number, odd ball signed item (unnumbered but he signed say 300 bookplates.. along these lines) and every lettered where he didn’t sign any other edition. I still need a few lettereds but they are ones that look the same as the numerical ones. It’s a pretty big feat for me I think. Thanks to everyone here that helped me along the way. Your good people’s And I have been honoured to know you and call you my friends. Some don’t like me, you know who you are and so do I..... but that’s ok, you can’t be liked by everyone. At least we share the same love... and that’s Mr. King and his work. Thanks again everyone. We be well met:)

From Grim Oak Press, the numbered and lettered editions of Lord Foul's Bane, by Stephen Donaldson:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/930/ECA0999A-B096-4679-A3D0-E1636FD64905.jpeg

This series is one of my favourite of the fantasy genre, and had quite an effect on me when I read it as a teenager. It was one of those reading experiences one has during one's formative years.

After 45 years, it's finally getting a limited edition, and Grim Oak did a fantastic job.

We must be of a similar age, i also read this during my formative teenage years and I too found it an incredible reading experience. Very different to the standard SF & Fantasy stuff I usually devoured.

Oh and Kris, it's Book 1 of a 10 volume series split into 3 chronicles. Be prepared for the long haul on this one!

Thanks, Kris! Yeah, I was pretty hyped when it was first announced, and even more hyped when I was able to grab a lettered edition. Grim Oak Press have just the first trilogy contracted, I think, and they are working on book 2 right now. (And who has two thumbs and matching letter/number rights? THIS GUY!) :)

Yeah, I agree, Simon. I think it had that effect on many of us who read it at the time. Pretty intense stuff. And while he played with the same tropes as other writers, his themes and intentions were entirely his own.

Incidentally, I've heard that while Donaldson's popularity has dropped off in the US, he still has a very strong readership in the UK.

Wanted this one for awhile. Thanks Kris.

This also confirms that 125 was signed on July 5 - something I had seen in SK Collector numbers but not verified! This makes it more likely (but not yet certain) that the rarest day for this book is July 8 (with July 5 being the second-rarest).

Great get!
