Kris, your story with the disappointing first edition copies of It is similar to my own. I would buy one, get disappointed, and return it. Then the cycle repeated (just not every 27 years). I still don't have a truly fine copy. One day, when I am rich, I will have one, along with CD's limited edition and the art portfolio.

Man, after 7 years... I found one. That’s it... one. I believe a truly perfect copy of IT is worth much much more than anyone thinks.... because they are that hard to acquire.

In honour of IT this coming week, I thought I’d share my IT collection. have every single thing in IT that’s book related (don’t care about silly movie promo stuff or Funko). The only thing I am missing is a fine signed 1st US. I have a fine UK which is a beauty but need that US. I’m pretty proud of it. I worked very hard and a LOT of hours to get those 25 1st’s. They are near fine or better. I bet you (RF knows) I have bought over 200 to get them. They would come in and many many times I would be disappointed. I ONLY have one flawless copy. Think of that... a pristine VERY FINE copy. I only ever got one. In all that searching. There was always a mark or blemish. This was like the day it was made. Anyways, thought I would share. If you have any questions feel free to ask:) cheers guys

PS: that is my little buddy: Indiana Jones. He is a Frenchie and his nick name is: Indy. I just love that little guy:)

I had some good pickups recently including-

Insomnia S/L from a member here - I love it! Beautiful edition.
I'm currently reading a paperback of Insomnia and wish I was reading the much nicer, more visible/legible S/L! I might want to pick up a gift edition of this for this purpose lol

Waste Lands S/L #886 - overpaid according to members here, live and learn ($650 on ebay) , still very happy to have it!

Misery Suntup Press Artist Gift Edition - new from Camelot Books. I recently just finished Misery for the first time (I know) so I am currently a little obsessed with this book. The art in this edition is amazing, and I'm jealous of anyone with the numbered or lettered versions (probably forever jealous...) But I'm in love with this gift edition and really happy to have it

https://i.imgur.com/JjbOPZI.jpg

But... to keep with the spirit of IT...

I bought a Lot of hardcovers that looked pretty decent on ebay, some being just BCEs that I wanted to read, but there was an It first edition/first printing in there that looked like it was in pretty good shape. I figured, it was at least in much better shape than the one I had already.

I'm very happy with the condition it's in. It's not going to make the cut for the finest 25 1st in webstar1000's amazing collection.. but I think it's good enough that I want one of those slip covers now!

The jacket is great, although has a thin vertical hard-to see stain that looks like it was from another book resting on it. But I'm most happy that the page block isn't sagging 30 miles away from the spine like my old copy! (although it's not :perfect: and as you can see the page edges are a little dirty)

https://i.imgur.com/wUfTe9w.jpg

Again, nothing special just pleasantly surprised as I wasn't expecting much from that.

Picked this up off of eBay a bit ago and just got it back from the framer:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_03141.jpg

It's right up my alley in multiple ways - one of my most favorite King covers (which has not yet seen a good quality print), and a Centipede Press promo item. The auction went for a bit more than I thought (~$50) but I'm happy I got it.

It had an asymmetrical border, which I really liked, and so I just had the framer follow it, but with a much thicker mat than I've used in the past (as you can see in the following picture). The frame is pretty basic - black with multiple beveled edges - but it matches the other frames in the space where it will go, most notably the framed print of The Shining paperback from Suntup.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_03151.jpg

It came from George Beahm, from whom I've purchased multiple items over the years (as have many others here, I think), and who is always an excellent seller and a total pleasure to work with. Really glad I snagged this and happy with how it turned out :)

There's actually a genre of scientific literature about re-experiencing things (re-watching a movie, re-reading a book, re-visiting a museum with the same exhibits, etc.) that shows that people generally have a better time than they think they will when they do something a second time.

The general idea is that (a) you know that you liked the experience the first time so you're not distracted by worrying about whether or not you'll enjoy it, and (b) because you've experienced it before you can regulate your attention appropriately (e.g., be extra engaged with scenes you like, and feel OK being disengaged with scenes that you don't enjoy as much because you know you're not going to miss something).

With this, I am down to seven books to complete my signed US 1st edition collection.

The Institute (which I hope to obtain next month), plus six more of the harder-to-find signed titles.

I am not sure My Pretty Pony belonged on that list in the first place.....as it is something of a gift edition.......like TLOE Cycle of the Werewolf.....but both of them are on my "list" and I now have a signed copy of both.

Comparing the signature to those in the catalog (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Stephen+King+Signatures+1980-Present&redirect=no) here, I believe it was signed around the time it was published......1988.

The "Stephen" from the 1987 example and "g" from the 1988 example are very similar.

A long looked-for S/L to go along with Faithful #1, Desperation #5, and EOTD #7; ladies and gentlemen I give you Insomnia #9.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/20190930_180757.png

Now I guess I need a #3 to round out the odd-number single digits and get started on even numbers?
Nice. I really like this S\L a lot. Congrats.

Very nice, congrats on having a very nice numbered edition of Harris' latest. I missed the Goldsboro annoucement, so "settled" for a signed (but unnumbered) U.S. 1st HC through Barnes & Noble. I tried reading the book once it arrived and have to unfortunately agree with a lot of reviewers that it's just godawful...but I'm still pleased to have the signed book in my collection to go along w/ my RED DRAGON and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS signed 1st HCs.

I am assuming Harris is trying to be very over the top and almost making a parody of the genre. With the ultra-cliched characters and plot devices. If I am wrong it is pretty silly, if I am right it is pretty clever. Fine line. With Harris we will never know. Awesome you have Silence and Red Dragon signed!

Shows a price of $339.00 at JPG pic and then goes to a sale of $439 marked down to $399.00. Assembly required? I'm not loving that. Doesn't specify what editions just says "current". At one point offers a 8 monthly payment of $52.50 which is a total price of $420 (if I did the math correct) , but I didn't see where that option was offered on payment screen. Price doesn't quite make sense either for an option like that. S/H is $27.50 which, I guess is cool for 8 books, but when you check out is says $0.00 for s/h and then quotes it on the next page. 19 limitation does not seem to carry through or if it really applies as description just states, "Current issues" no specifications. I also did not see where I could send in copies for rebinding and what that cost would be. Just kinda weird and awkward.

Just pointing this out for you to look into, Kingfan. I'm sure they are just errors that need fixing. Not sure if we can apply your generous discount if in fact the payment plan is an option. As I said, I don't mean this as criticism, per se. Just pointing out inconsistencies and/or errors. I'm kinda intrigued and interested if and when the details are fully worked out. Really hope that I am kind of being a help.

Just email him, tell him what you want to do regarding books, and he will give you a price. Easier that way. The assembly required is for the bookends only. Still make sure you hit him up so you can request specific text blocks or request a number.

Really hope that I am kind of being a help.Hey Merlin. You are a thousand percent right. The website is a mess. I did not use his site at all. Just email him, tell him what you want to do regarding books, and he will give you a price. Easier that way. The assembly required is for the bookends only. They are not like mine and you probably will not use them. Let him know Bryan sent you and you saw it on the boards here.

Don’t know what to say or how to put this into words but the Whelan’s are far too good to me. They let me pay off a dream piece of mine over a long period of time and then reframed it for me at no charge and then help me get it into Canada without a ton of fees and then to top
It all off? Include another piece I didn’t expect!!! Michael had one request... he
Said the reason he never sold this one was two fold... he liked it a lot BUT had an issue with it. He hated The way Roland stands in the piece. He asked if he could touch him up. I said yes. No problem!!! It’s much better but grab your Sisters copy and look at them both. Very cool:)

Two paintings by Second Coming artist Robert Addison.

"It stands up on that hill overlooking the village like--oh, like some kind of dark idol" Ben Mears to Matt Burke; September 25, 1975
"Cody came at the Marsten House from the Brooks Road, on the village's blind side and Donald Callahan looking at it from this new angle, thought: why it actually looms over the town...It must have perfect elevation there, perched on its hill high above the crossroads of Jointner Avenue and Brock Street. Perfect elevation and a very nearly 360 degree view of the township itself. It was a huge and rambling place and took on an uncomfortable, overlarge configuration in the mind; it became a sarcophaguslike monolith, an evocation of doom"

Congrats everyone!

So...my latest acquisitions have been memories (and a couple of items, but nothing too fancy). As many know, I was invited by Warner Bros to attend the world premiere of Doctor Sleep in LA. So they basically paid me a full trip from Buenos Aires to LA, hosted me in a really nice hotel, and before lunch they put me in the same room with Mike Flanagan, Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson (SHE'S SO HOT!!) and Kyliegh Curran. I was able to shake all their hands and talk for a brief moment with them (with Mike Flanagan was different: we had a roundtable that lasted for almost an hour!). I was released in the afternoon and I was able to met Paul Suntup! :) Then they took me to the theater where the film was screened where I walked the red carpet (that was surreal) and then watched the film with several of the actors and actresses that were in the film. And then, a party! It was INCREDIBLE! And I got the cherry of the cake yesterday: I had a meeting in Warner Bros offices in Buenos Aires and they were really happy with all I did, and my contact told me that I'm officially THE influencer when it comes to Stephen King, so there are chances this experience will repeat in the future with other adaptations. :) :) :)

The last incredible thing actually took place on the very first day: I went to the San Petersen Museum and, for the very first time in my life, I saw live the most famous Plymouth Fury ever. :)

Here are some pics I got during the trip

Congratulations.

I would add that Ari is really working hard.
I've known him since about 2000 I think. Probably since has long as Lilja and a few other people that I wont mention. But he is really a lucky bastard as well :D
I've been managing the french "Club Stephen King" community since about 15 years or so. And never been invited to any similar event ;)

All of that for saying for confirming that yes, Ari has been very lucky, but indeed, I personnally know him and he does really do a lot. He is really lucky, but he worked a lot over the years for all of that and he truly deserves it.
Well done my friend! Hope you'll get a lot more events, freebies and gifts like those !

I believe I commented on The Shadow of the Wind in your collection thread, but I didn't on the others.

The Suntups are gorgeous, of course, and while you haven't reached Yegor status, the pics are getting better! Something I need to work on, for sure.

The lettered Three-Body is gonna be Sub Press's #1 release of the year, I think. There are plenty of Sub Press lettereds that I haven't held or seen pictures of, but I feel pretty confident that nothing else they're gonna release in 2019 is going to match Three-Body. Maybe if Fire & Blood comes out in the next six weeks...

Great gets, HBJ!!

very nice.

Thank you, all. I know this is primarily a King collector's thread, so I appreciate your positive responses. The lettered copy of The Shadow of the Wind is one of those editions that I never thought I'd own, so I'm thrilled beyond words.

Thanks Tim. Those are kind words indeed - my photographic skills (and my collection) fall far short of Yegor's, I agree, but I appreciate your encouragement. I enjoy taking the photos as it gives me a chance to enjoy the qualities of the books that I'm trying to highlight. I want to get better at it, so if you're seeing an improvement, that makes me happy.

And yes, the TBP lettered edition is the standout release for SubPress this year, I agree. I don't think either The Labyrinth of the Spirits or Fire & Blood lettereds will be out this year. The Scar was pretty stunning, as was Broken Angels (based on Yegor's photos of them), but personally, I think TBP is just a little bit nicer than both.

While it's been a shitty couple of weeks personally, it's been a GREAT couple of weeks book-wise, and I have a couple of things that I've been meaning to post. Here is the biggest and best and first!

I know that there are literally hundreds of pictures of this book around, and lots of them better than these, but I wanted to post more than just the limitation page, in case anyone had temporarily forgotten how freaking beautiful this whole production is.

First, the letter of provenance that accompanied the book. I'm grateful to Paul, as I really appreciate stuff like this. Although I'll never in my whole life forget about this experience, it's nice to have small reminders of provenance for the important books in my collection.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_1267.jpg

The first Easter Egg!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_1269.jpg

God I love these endpapers. Some of my favorite ever. I've mentioned before that I'm a big sucker for hand-marbled endpapers so sometimes I forget that there are machine-printed endpapers that are also just damn beautiful (the recent Rosemary's Baby numbered and the lettered Sleeping Beauties from earlier this year are other great examples).

I half joke (actually it's only quarter joking, I'm pretty serious) with my wife that I want to wallpaper my office with this paper - it's decadent, but not over-the-top, it's got a wonderful palette and the right amount of white space, and I love love love the gold accents. Not only is it beautiful on its own, but it's wonderfully evocative of a kind of wallpaper that Annie might have in her house.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_1275.jpg

Here's the copyright page that housed the long-kept secret (15 months!). Look at that letter "S" just staring everybody right in the damn face!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_1272.jpg

And finally, the limitation page. Red ink! I wasn't sure if these would be numbered 1-15 or 186-200 because I've never seen a picture of a red numbered Misery limitation page. Well, here it is, and it's the latter!

My best Pride & Joy, number 194:

I’m not super impressed you got the red number. You AND firemonkey solving this Indiana Jones / Da Vinci Code riddle... NOW THAT IMPRESSES ME. It was easily the coolest thing ever in the book world since I joined it 8-9 years ago. I wonder if Firemonkey never noticed it if anyone else would have. I noticed that S on Misery... but thought it was for Suntup. Thus never thought of it again. To do what you guys did shows real brains. Glad you both won a cool prize. It is so cool.

Very nice, and very impressive on all accounts! Man, I forgot how much I like those end papers...

When Misery was released, I tried my hardest to completely avoid all pictures of the book until I could see it in person. One night I scrolled down too fast in a thread, saw a flash of this pattern, and immediately closed the tab and avoided that thread - so the endpapers were like the only part of the book I partially saw. Even so, when I opened the book for the first time and saw them in person, I still let out an audible, involuntary gasp. Just spectacular papers!

Two-color letterpress printing, with art (after watching the letterpress video Paul posted for The Time Machine I think we all have a new appreciation for what it means to do two-color printing via letterpress!):

The first Easter Egg!

Here's the copyright page that housed the long-kept secret (15 months!). Look at that letter "S" just staring everybody right in the damn face!

And finally, the limitation page. Red ink! I wasn't sure if these would be numbered 1-15 or 186-200 because I've never seen a picture of a red numbered Misery limitation page. Well, here it is, and it's the latter!
