I don't know where I'm going to PUT them yet, but I got 3 IKEA Billy bookcases in black today for $49 each, which will be the base of my eventual bookcase design (like many of you have.) It was a one day sale that I found out about at 6:30 PM, so rushed out the door not realizing how f'ing BIG and HEAVY these boxes are!

I tell ya, it's a bitch collecting books. Everything is big and heavy! Including the books!

Well done!

I'm a fan of the IKEA Billys. I have a couple of bookcases with glass doors, and they are not fancy, but they are a great way to keep your collectibles in good shape.

I agree, I thought they usually sent out sneak peeks at it, but never saw anything until it arrived. I think I vaguely recall seeing a picture of it that indicated it would be yellow.

Thanks everyone! They’re nothing but trinkets, but I especially like the blood red color on the shot glass.
My 7 year old son was very curious what Redrum meant. I gave some roundabout answer. Didn’t really want to get into a conversation about supernatural murders in a hotel.

My wife always tells me I have my own luck, which won't make me win the lottery, but will always show up in the small things. And I tend to agree with her. Two weeks ago I didn't hit jackpot but I got lucky once again with one curious auction:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/202098955881

I didn't have this edition of the audiobook and I have a bookstore about King where the two remaining copies would sell. Win-Win. So I made a lower offer ($25) which got a counter offer for $35, with a curious reason by the seller: "one of the items is signed". I really didn't believe it but I wanted the item and the price was good, so I accepted it.

Today the items showed up. Yes...it was signed. By King, in pencil, "for Bob". I already sold one of the other two copies for 15 dollars. Once I sell the other, I can say I got the signed audiobook for $5. I showed it to my wife and the first thing she said was: I'm not surprised. :)

The signature is in pencil, not very sharp, but I'm 100% sure is legit. It can be seen against light. I took a couple of pics. :)

Not to derail, but this is a good question! I have books signed in pencil and books signed with a sharpie and I am always afraid to do anything to them, or store them differently, because I might damage them unnecessarily...

As Ari said, his is protected by the jewel case.

If you have books signed on the cover, a Brodart cover can be cut and folded to fit.

This item is not King-related, nor is it recent, but I thought I'd post it in light of Julian May's recent passing.

This is almost certainly the most personal item I have, to the point where I feel a bit uncomfortable owning it. It's a signed first trade edition of May's The Nonborn King:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/930/IMG_8567.JPG

The novel is dedicated to her two sons, Dave and Sam:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/930/IMG_8568.JPG

... and my copy is inscribed to Dave, with a personal note from "Mom", then signed by May:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/930/IMG_8569.JPG

This copy appears to be a gift from May to one of her sons, to whom the book was dedicated.

Although it's impossible to be sure, it appears to be completely legit; the signature looks genuine, when compared to other signatures of this time, and the writing appears to have been done at the same time by the same green pen.

These volumes were published in print runs of 500, 300 and 125, decreasing as the series progressed. Sorry about the rotten photo, and the plastic sleeves I put them in doesn't help.

Great stuff. I’ve just discovered Charmel House (via a Harlan Ellison title I was looking at). The quality of their books seem top notch.

Thanks, peripheral. These are the only volumes of their's that I have, and they are pretty amazing. The volumes and slipcases of each volume are bound in different kinds of cloth, and the later ones look like iridescent japanese silk. Unfortunately, I fear they may mark or damage pretty easily, though - hence the plastic sleeves. I need to figure out how I'm going to store them safely.

Here is a fun little story :

I have just recieved an item that i've been looking for years ! A french audiobook version on TAPES of THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON
I have been searching the entire internet for copies. A few years ago, I found the details of the reader which graciously loarned me her tapes so that I could digitalise them.

I did notice that some french librairies may have had copies. I contacted them, but didnt hear back.
A month or so ago, i've recieved an email from a library in a french territory near territory apologising for the delay of their reply (a year after my message!) that said that they actually still had the tapes in the warehouse as they taken them out of the shelves a few years before, and luckily they didn't destroy them.
I offered them to buy the tapes or to send them the audiobook on CDs in exchange of them, allowing them to offer to their registered citizens to loan it.
They accepted, I burned the MP3s on CDs, sent them and I've just recieved the tapes.

It's not in the best condition, but I now have them!
Another coincidence, is while I sent them the CDs, another copy of the tapes appeared on ebay in what seems a perfect condition, but it's quite expensive (150€ ) and the seller wouldnt not bulge on the price.

Despite the fact that they are not in the best condition (the annoying part being the the marks and taped bits from the library), but I got mine after years of research for 20€!

Do you have the Gauntlet Press edition of Shadowland? If so, thoughts (on illustrations (if any), paper, design etc.)?

I'd love to have a special edition of that (hint, hint, CD!) and one day may grab one of these, although it generally sells for more than I'd like to spend.

Seriously, what a nice book and case! You have every right to be proud of this rarity!

Think of the money you’ll save by going with Brian’s suggestion. I like it. Old school. And when one eventually cracks, heck you have three more to fall back on.

Kris, congrats on acquiring on the set of four. It's certainly not an easy task, particularly at a reasonable price. Going with Paul for a Collector's case is a fabulous idea--can't wait to see it.

I don't collect King with the passion and regularity as many here, so when I secure not one but two new King pride-and-joys, I have to show 'em off...

This one I snagged off eBay. I'm a big Thompson fan, so to have his (reprinted) debut novel inscribed by King (intro.), this one is a real joy to have and is a nice complement to the signed/limited/slipcased HC reprint of A KILLER INSIDE ME (also signed by King) that I also own. I don't know who the recipient is, though I did find two gentlemen by that name on the Net...one is a minor mystery author and the other was the owner of a now defunct used bookstore in CA...could be either, could be neither. That one of the reasons I don't typically buy inscribed editions, but this one was special and unique enough that it doesn't bother me:

https://s14.postimg.org/6ftnjeltt/jimt1.jpg

https://s14.postimg.org/dj1iz16ox/jimt2.jpg

Took some books off my overflowing shelves down to a local genre bookseller, and came away with this one in trade...book is Fine, the dj has just a few traces of edgewear so I'll call it Near Fine:

Like many of you, I’ve been lucky enough to form some great friendships through my book collecting, and also through this King forum. In December, a huge box (the shape of an art print) arrived at my house in Australia (coincidentally, right on my birthday). I didn't recall purchasing any artwork. I opened it and soon realised it was gifted from a member here. A sincere THANK YOU to HONKYTONKSMASH. What can I say, mate? An extremely generous and thoughtful gesture, brother, and it won't be forgotten.

And the detail/quality of this Suntup's print is mind-blowing. I just got it back from the framers today. (Please excuse the shite reflecty photo)...

As many of you know, I really love both the Shawshank Redemption movie and the short story Steve wrote in Different Seasons....It took me a LONG while to finally get this back from Alex McVey, but I am very pleased with the remarques I commissioned him to do in this book....and I sent him a book that I owned that was inscribed to William and I took this same book to Mansfield Ohio (the site of the Shawshank filming) over two years ago and got it signed by the Warden (who mistakenly thought my name must be William so he inscribed it to William) even though I am a David...not a problem for me actually.
