Bought two from CD, but was sent 3rd prints. I wasn't going to worry about it, but then Brian reached out to everyone that got 3rd prints and made it right. Told us to keep the 3rd prints as well. Boom! 4 copies. (+ the S/L version on the way)

One question (and I really should know the answer) What is the book to the right of the EOTD S/L ?\

EDIT: I zoomed in. It's The Stand Portfolio

Nice display. Love the corner bookcase with the Doubleday firsts (I assume firsts) in the wood slipcases. Nice Job!

Cross posting from the bookcases thread as this is my favorite acquisition in a while! Not so much a book, but I finally got new bookcases and like the way it all turned out. Feels good to have room to expand!

Very nice! I've never had a piece framed before, though I've bought and framed some pieces myself. How much does it cost, on average, to get it done for a piece that size or slightly larger?

jsmcmullen92

Depends on if they are running a sale or not. I think this was a little over a hundred but some times you can get it super cheap when they run big sales. I got By the Silver Waters of Lake Champlain and I think that cost me about the same

The 'Salems Lots are more a testament to my weakness than anything. I originally decided to purchase a full AE set of the Doubleday years from CD and a full gift set. Then somewhere along the way I acquired another AE Carrie on the cheap and then got a deal on an AE 'Salems so I guess I am trying to build two sets of each with an eye toward selling one eventually if I manage to continue getting two of each as they come out. That explains the doubles of those. As for the other 'Salems on the bottom, they were bought on various whims, some as CD was announcing they were almost sold out, some after the fact when they offered remarqued copies and a 50% coupon at the same time (still not sure they meant to do that lol). Sometime soon I will sell off the extras to put toward something else.

As for the trade hardbacks with doubles or triples, that is usually the product of trying to improve on the condition of the one I have, then never getting around to selling the original; although I always tell myself I will soon lol.

I don't have a collection thread, but enjoy lurking around in others. It's another thing I keep telling myself i will do, but between work, wife, and 3 teenage boys time is not something I have in abundance right now.

You know I never would have chose those mats on my own but I set the piece down and the framer fell in love with the piece and started going to town. He used to own a custom frame shop in PA so i just trusted his judgement and I think it turned out amazing.

Hey, most of you know this but Dave at Overlook Connection is selling Dark Tower portfolios with artwork by Glen Chadbourne. I was able to get both #296 and #310 to match same-number Dark Tower S/L sets. I got 3 extra copies and given discount I got, I can sell them for LOWER than Dave's offering price of $125. Anyway, here is the portfolio cover and a small pic of my #296.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/IMG_20170202_194618393.jpg

The IT portfolio is tied shut and I didn't have the nerve to untie it as I figured I would never tie it back up as neatly. The Dark man prints were still wrapped in plastic, and I didn't have the heart to open it either. Looks like there are a ton of prints. Is there anywhere someone has posted pictures of the prints from these portfolios?

As I unwrapped the Full Dark No Stars GE, I noticed a cool effect. If you shake the book, it looks like blue "Stephen King" slides around on the slip case. I wonder if the optical effect was intentionally designed.

Nothing big or expensive... but i LIKE IT !!!
When I started some time ago in a new company, I discovered a small second hand shop nearby, unfortunately only with a few books and games but with the game JUNTA which I found great when I was younger.
I visit the shop more often, JUNTA was always there and I told my colleagues and Chef that I buy the game sometimes, on an anniversary or when I leave in the company.
This thursday my boss surprised me with the game, for my 2.5 year jubilee in the company, self packed.
A used exterior ugly but inside great game, not expensive but a areally nice gesture.

The painting is still in its original frame from 1984; I tend to leave them as is. The yellow/gold definitely lights a room!
The focus of Robert Addison's artwork was primarily the play of light on buildings and houses and Orpheum Theatre is an excellent example of his fascination with light and shadow.

Knowing Darkness S/L deluxe thanks to Dave (oy-the-brave). This thing is a monstrosity, in a good way.

Salem's Lot 1st in Collector traycase thanks to Ralph (Room 217 Caretaker).
http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah123/tony8379/PJs3_zps7ejuypvd.jpg

A Mark Ryden tear sheet of his cover art for The Regulators and Desperation. I helped someone out with a copy of Knowing Darkness that he owns, but didn't know much about (and then decided to buy my own as a result), and he was nice enough to send me this as a thank you. Apparently these sheets were given out as part of a small run of advertising packets of Ryden's work back in 1996. They were given to art and music executives to showcase Ryden's work, and most were shredded/destroyed, which makes it a bit of a rarity.

FOUR PAST MIDNIGHT: Original concept painting that was presented to the art director, editors and Stephen King, mounted on white board with a matt for the presentation 8” x 9”, image area is 4” x 6 1/4” . For me, the Alex McVey saga has reached a most happy ending...YEARS (seriously) ago I was introduced to Alex by a member here as Alex was in some difficulty for which I extended myself and helped him out. Alex's promise was to repay me within a year at a favorable return....well that deadline came and went and all my efforts to "converse" with Alex fell dead...email, by phone etc....nothing for YEARS. Then I got him to respond to me on Facebook with promises to pay me back....that still did not happen and he went silent for months at a time. I finally got Alex to agree to do some original artwork for me. I asked for a piece myself and one I could donate to Haven as a fundraiser. He agreed but still nothing came. I pestered him another 2 years until finally a couple weeks ago he told me he was done and that he was shipping my artwork. It finally arrived yesterday and I can say I am MOST PLEASED.

Alex, if you read this, I'm sorry I "outed" you here right now but this never should have taken so long. In the end though, you made things right and I appreciate that integrity with promises made came through in the end.

So, Stephen King fans, below are the 3 (three) original pieces that I received yesterday. All are 16" by 20" and original art on solid board. I have a personal favorite of the three but it is NOT the one I actually commissioned....still have to decide if I am going to offer one to Haven for fundraising...would be a tough decision. I'd like to hear from you all how you rate them yourself (I know everyone is different in what they like).

Very Interesting! Thanks so far for all the votes! It seems (so far) Oy by a landslide!

Here is the backdrop...I asked for a Trash Can Man piece...Alex said he was having trouble with just Trashie and could he add Flagg, I said sure. He told me he would do a separate RF piece and I thought, great! Oy was a last minute addition on his part! So, Trash/RF was the one I commissioned, leaving art totally up to him. I'm partial to the RF one with Oy a VERY close 2nd. I really LIKE Trash/RF but of the 3 my least favorite and THAT is the one I asked him to do...go figure.

I've looked for many years for Cemetery Dance Magazine #6.

My set is now complete. Took a while but...
I have multiple copies of many issues-especially some early ones(as well as later ones)- if anyone is interested.

Day two of boxes coming has been exciting~ I posted more on my collection thread but had to say how surprised I am at the production value of this little gem! I know why all the collectors got sour on it but with a print run SO LOW and the cool factor of it... What a sweet King collectable. If you do not have it or have not seen it... it is worth a look for sure. I love it!

As for signed copies, I don't mind sending copies but shipping is super expensive from Argentina (U$S 50, more than the book, which costs U$S 21). Nevertheless, if there's interest I can donate one for the HF prizes signed/inscribed (I'll pay the shipping).

I've just received this:

So a couple of months ago, I was literally gutted because I accidentally found a copy of a first french edition of DRACULA.
It was a bit pricey, but reasonnable for the book.
It seemed in good / very good condition, but I emailed the seller with a question because i thought i saw that pages were becoming loose.
Waiting for a reply from the seller, the book was sold.

I was gutted because it was the first copy i ever saw for sale, and technically I could have bought it but I was stupid to not rush on it.
Furthermore, I could have gotten it "cheapish" because I remembered I have a 100e voucher since december !

Anyway, I was on my laptop by 2am this week when I recieved an alert that a copy was available.
The seller provided some pictures showing some damages, described the copy thoroughly and it was a bit cheaper because of the lower state compared to that previous damn copy that I missed.

I literally jumped on the occasion : reading a bit the lenghtly description to be sure that I do not miss any important details because it was several hundred euros, but do not want that someone else jumps in the meantime if they got the alert !

So, here is my french first edition of DRACULA !

There interior is a bit damaged, but I was looking for a copy since awhile.
On the front cover is written "3000th". The seller discussed it with me as he is quite a savy librarian and keen of vampires among other stuff, and explained that this was a common practice back in the day to pretend that books were selling well, but that may not mean that this is a third printing as nothing else is different from copies without that mention (and yes, the copy i missed a couple of months ago DIDNT have that mention!)

http://club-stephenking.fr/img/collection-herbertwest/Collecting/misc/2017/dracula-first/dracula-fr-1st--01.jpg

So this copy joins this part of my library, which contains a first french edition of JEKYLL & a second french edition of Frankenstein.
Interestingly, I discovered through that seller something i didn't know about frankenstein. I always thought that the only known copy of the first french edition is at the national library. Well he proved me that a copy was sold a year or so ago through an auction house and went for 15,000€.
Unfortunately there are no actual pictures of the copy.
He also told me that over the course of years he seem to have noticed about 6 copies about the 1st french Frankenstein.

Anyway, here is the spot of my collection surrounded by a skull of JD, and bottle of absinthe and a freaky glass!

Congrats, get some frozen peas (trust me), take your pain Meds and frozen peas and you can sit back and enjoy your DT set for the next few days; seriously don't do anything except rest, take the norco (or whatever they give you) and frozen peas. Don't run a half marathon 3 days later (like my friend did).

Thank you guys, I'm so excited and delighted about this DT set. It was never seriously on my radar until I more fully immersed myself here in this collecting community, so I have you collecting obsessives to thank also.

And Chad, thanks for the advice! It's almost midnight here so I'll be crashing soon but, tomorrow, those frozen peas and I are going to start a new relationship (I'm not sure the fam will eat them afterwards, however). Anyway... SWEET JESUS. It feels like the President of The Hells Angels, Andre The Giant, and Cthulhu, have all taken it in turns to shoe me in the plums... I'm going to enjoy some time with these OxyContins...

Thank you everyone for the kind words on my DT set and my bruised balls! I must say, the DT set has been a useful distraction and almost as analgesic as my Oxycontin (as I type this, I'm high on oxy and have a strategically positioned ice pack. My first time taking oxycontin - man, it's wondrous!!!) I'm happy to say, the procedure went without complication - I couldn't smell whiskey on the urologist's breath, and his hand didn't look too shaky.

Unfortunately I'm unable to fully appreciate this set today - in 3 hours I'm scheduled to have a vasectomy :Ball Kick:

And yes, RF, I like your logic. Come to think of it, it seems more than a coincidence that I get a vasectomy just after I spend the kids' school fees for the next 6 years.

I bought this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Colorado-Kid-Stephen-King-Hard-Case-Crime-SIGNED-ONE-OF-A-KIND-/262899365687?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=h4wqRVmLhbRC%252BMBMTkyMY1vH1Ew%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc) yesterday.

Seller was local and they agreed to knock $20 off of the starting bid (the book had already run once with no bidders) if I picked up and paid cash.

I know the Sharpie signature is less than desirable, but this is a tough item to find signed....and besides, I was at the event in which it was signed.

Can't wait to get it tomorrow. I could have collected it tonight, but my other new pride and joy needed feeding and didn't have the time to go collect it.

Ah well, tomorrow will be special. Register my baby as officially born, get new windows in the house, and take delivery of this wonderful book. Exciting day.

The bottom panel is pretty marked where it has been stood, and the joint in the bottom right corner isn't as flush as the other corners, as if it has been removed once before, and didn't quite fit together. I've not seen one before so not sure how flush they normally are.

Also the rim the lid sits on is pretty fragile and split in a couple of places and needs strengthening somehow.

Nothing that can't be addressed by an expert.

Your post on restoring the box is excellent and shows very similar areas that needs work. Only for the skilled I think.

Ps and yes, one very happy cat indeed. Waited a long time for this one.

Hi Shaq, I had some similar issues with my Stand Limited box. I found a very nice gentleman who specializes in antique box restoration and TBH this type of box is very simple work for him. The website is http://www.jackdawboxes.co.uk/ and you can email Adrian on info@jackdawboxes.co.uk. If you mention "Simon" and that I popped in on the way to Cornwall with a similar Stephen King Box I'm sure he will remember!

My pleasure, always happy to spread the word for craftsman.

By the way, your avatar photo is incredible, if thats as it was taken and not had some photoshopping of the bird in the foreground, it's a fantastic image. Love to hear the story behind it.

Cheers. Not my photography I'm afraid. It probably is photoshopped but makes me laugh the longer I look at it.

It was some random site that does stuff like top ten photo bombs and silly stuff like that.

It does make me laugh.

Ps checked the location of the box restorer, would be perfect if heading over to Glastonbury this year, but missing it due to new born. Will see what he says and send it over.

Some new acquisitions I'm particularly happy about. Now have blank copies of DTIII-VII+WTTKH+LSOE.

Congrats on the acquisitions!

from a collecting standpoint, blank copies are a nightmare. A duplicate number by an unscrupulous person might eventually be caught. PC's and AC'S...etc. are a nightmare. If forever left blank, it's a great novelty-and a challenge to obtain DTI-DTVII, TWTTK, LSOE....but one person down the road could screw it up,

stroppygoblin

With regard to RF's spoiler comment, I think posting images of any blank copies is a good way to ensure such unscrupulous changes don't happen. It might be worth starting a separate thread so any contentious PC or numbered copies can be compared in the future.

Still great acquisitions and yet another flavour to a collection!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! A complete set of blank copies was one of my first collecting goals and it's exciting to get so close. I concur with the sentiment that having blank copies floating around has the potential to lead to "fake" numbers. That being said, I swear on my collection to leave them blank :) Having those blank copies in the hands of trusted members / collectors and tracking where numbers are (e.g., the front page of the DT Same-Number thread) is probably the best way to prevent that type of forgery from occurring.

For the most part I just think it's cool and "clean" looking to have the line blank. When I look at my collection I also get to ponder how these made it out into the wild without anything written there (e.g., Publisher's Copy). I know there's only one of every number and there could be multiple blank copies, but it's something different you don't see often.

Added bonus of keeping them out of the hands of potential forgers :)

Congrats Antoni and Rick!!!!

I'm really excited to now have all 3 Custom 'Salem's Lot signed, Mr. King was generous with his time as always, also was generous to sign a 1st Edition Charlie the Choo Choo and Mr. Mercedes Proof.

May we ask how he signed it? Steve as Berryl....?
Thanks

Thanks for all the kind comments! These have been my 3 items to get signed for quite awhile and after a couple years I'm thrilled they are as big and heavey as they are theyre not easy to travel with! Charlie was signed as Stephen King and not Beryl Evans to answer that question he signed my Comic Con edition last year the same as Stephen King.

Congrats to Collin, Shaq and Heath great stuff Guys very Happy for you all!

I was fortunate enough to win the #19 Crimson King signed print, donated and sold to benefit The Haven Foundation fundraiser this year. With the help of a local Michaels who has advised and framed quite a few pieces for me, they helped put together something special for The CK. Included a pic next to Rachel Readman's sculpture, and placed it next to Whelan's The Long Walk.
