My first purchase from Bett's and my first full colour remarque. I must admit that Tomislav Tikulin is better at digital art than a more traditional style, nonetheless it is quite a nice piece plus the scarcity of his remarques adds a little extra coolness. A good start to my CD Doubleday remarque collection, working out a deal for a Palumbo and I got the Maitz on lock down.

No need to picture it, but thanks to a VERY generous member who just mailed me a Fine/NF 1st/1st of the Stand: Uncut to replace my reading copy that I actually read back in the day when we would do such things. It was so kind of him to mail it to me as a freebie, somewhat completing a circle of sorts since I bought and donated the copy that was used in a HF auction that he won.

I'm going to be returning the favor and giving my reading copy away as a freebie to a new generation reader, either on the SKMB or Facebook groups....someone that doesn't have a collection of 1sts going yet and this will at least give them a placeholder on an essential "older" book.

So thanks again to the member that just upgraded my copy to a great copy that I'll be perfectly happy with for my general collection of US 1st's, and also that gives a young, new collector an essential for free.

I just acquired a very rare item for my Dark Tower collection...a Lettered Legends..."SS" Not that I was DYING to own one of these, but I've been collecting King/Dark Tower for 25 years more or less and I THINK this is the only copy I have ever seen for sale (or at least been for sale where I had a chance to buy it). Legends, in my opinion, is a "sleeper" limited in that while it is first appearance of the story "Little Sisters of Eluria", there were only 125 S/Ls produced and only 50 Lettered copies. I've owned an S/L for a number of years now and while the Lettered edition is indistinguishable from the S/L other than having Letters instead of numbers on the limitation page, the fact that these never come up for sale of course made me want to find and acquire one. I know at least one member here owns a Lettered copy (likely more of them among members here), but there are some huge names that contributed stories to this book, not the least of which is George R. R. Martin of Game of Thrones fame.

I am thrilled to now own this book as part of my Dark Tower collection...here is a picture of the limitation page...the book and slipcase are minty fresh!!

Just added to my collection a few french fanzines. The funny thing is they were created by someone whose website I took over about 15 years ago.
I am still missing a few, but I added 3 from the end of 90s. It seem that there were 100 copies of each at the time.

# 15 & 16 :
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/APROPOS/newsletter/steve-s-rag/SteveSRag15.jpg http://club-stephenking.fr/img/APROPOS/newsletter/steve-s-rag/SteveSRag16.jpg

And this one. It is a bonus to the #18, and is called "Top Secret" for a simple reason. It reprints a screenplay for which they didnt have the copyright to do so...
I hope that it wont bring troubles to anyone for mentionning this.

I missed out on the Pennywise painting that Erin Wells donated to the HF Fundraiser this year. Loved that painting and decided I needed to have a painting from her. I got this yesterday and it's off to the framer now. Couldn't wait the 2 weeks to share though. I'm extremely happy with this. I love Erin's take on Pennywise and I've wanted something that represents my favorite literary scene.

Some text (memories) from David Lyon that I got via email.

A little background -- Steve and I met standing in line at freshman orientation at UMO in September 1966. We were waiting to see a free movie. We got to talking and discovered that we shared a love of Lovecraft, Lord Dunsany, really bad British horror flicks, etc. And we agreed that once we got out of school, we both wanted to write paperback novels and make $20,000 a year. Between us, we reached both those goals. We were also trying to pick up the same girl named Emily. Steve succeeded on that account too, since he had a single room at the university cabins. (Flipper was one of his high school friends and I believe that they later shared an apartment.)

another...If you're a die-hard Stephen King fan, you probably know me--or at least by Steve's insistent misspelling of my last name. I am David Lyon, and about as much back story as you need about my relation to Steve is in the afterword of The Gunslinger. I was the one with the ream of canary yellow mimeo paper. (or, as he called it, Roadrunner Yellow)

another...The references to guitar and cigarette roller are simple. In the summer of 1969, when we all worked in the University of Maine Orono library, Steve and I formed the Up Against the Jug Futhermucker Wall Band. We performed original lyrics to jug band and traditional blues tunes. Tabby soon joined as well. We were, frankly, terrible. We were also poor, and rolled our own cigarettes.

Finally (from me)...David Lyon is a published poet and he has poem entries (with Steve, Tabby and others) in MOTH.

Here ya go...

For Dave Lyons,
With best wishes and
many good memories, most of
which seem to be tinged with
alcohol or some sort of hallucin-
organic substance - take care
of yourself + hope to see you
some time this Spring. This book
will never win a Nobel or Pulitzer,
but I like to think it’s better
than that Cosmopolitan abortion -
do you still play some blues guitar?

Again, best wishes,
Steve King

Nothing fancy. Just something I never heard about.

Sometimes, when I have some spare time, I go to some websites and check the 40 pages or so of auctions & ads related to Stephen King.
Most of the time, it's just a waste of time. And some other time, you get lucky and accidently discover some item you never heard about.

That was the case last weekend when an auction listed Stephen King in a (french) magazine from 1986, and was mentionning an essay written by King.
I ordered it, and it's true. It's a translation of the introduction to JimThompson's NOW AND ON EARTH

Hmm, I knew he'd done the Killer Inside Me, but not Now and On Earth. I'm a big fan of Thompson, he's in my top 5 authors with King.

The King piece is actually called "Big Jim Thompson: An Appreciation" and it appeared in a reprint of NOW AND ON EARTH, by Dennis McMillan Publications in 1986.

Down East Magazine
13 décembre 2011 ˇ
Stephen King from our January 2011 feature "Maine in Your Words"
"My idea of the real Maine is lunch at Rosie's Diner in Lovell. Especially in the fall, after the summer folks go home. Grab a copy of the local paper (the Bridgton News), sit at the counter, and order the blueberry pancakes (with real maple syrup). Bacon on the side's optional. The cook wears a Red Sox hat, there's a picture of Elvis over the specials board, and the locals talk politics and football while the leaves fall outside. If you like, when you finish your lunch, you can stroll across to the public library. Not bad."

Here are some PnJ's from the last couple of months.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/the_stand_sl.jpg

I was too nervous to take off the glassine cover. It seems I can't keep the coffin lid on, when standing up. Is this normal?

Here are a bunch of others in my book case (including The Stand above).

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/recent_pnj_croped.jpg

This includes:

Top shelf:

The Secretary of Dreams Vol 1 Limited edition (from Betts)
Full Dark No Stars Lettered edition (from ebay)
The Stand Limited edition (from ebay)

2nd Shelf:

Back row:

Secretary of Dreams Vol 1 and 2 matching Lettereds (from Betts)

Front Row:

`Salem's Lot Gift Ed (from CD)
`Salem's Lot Artist Ed (from CD) (not my remarqued version which is boxed and ready to ship back to CD)
The Shining (from Folio Society)
The Talisman Lettered edition (from ebay)

Does anyone have suggestions on how to display Full Dark no Stars? Right now it is leaning back so that there is no weight on the latch on the bottom. Also what about The Stand, I can't stand it upright without the lid falling off (I guess I could turn it to face the side of the bookcase, which is a little better then it is now)

Put The Stand on an angled plastic display:

Just the last month!? What a month for you!... Congrats, wonderful selection. Re The Stand S/L - yes, the lid can easily tip forward if you simply stand it on one side - the "lip" of the coffin lid is too shallow for this. Best way to display it is to buy a small acrylic easel - eBay has them. Because of its weight and size, make sure the bottom of the easel is long enough to extend beyond the bottom of the Stand.

Enjoy those new P&J's!

Edit
- Yes, what Jerome said :)

I haven't read much Ketchum but I did read The Girl Next Door. Pretty disturbing stuff. I recently read The Collector by John Fowles and got sort of the same creepy feeling but the Ketchum book was much more graphic.

This arrived today......

Startling Mystery Stories No 12 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEPHEN-KING-REAPER-S-IMAGE-/232001162258?nma=true&si=h4wqRVmLhbRC%252BMBMTkyMY1vH1Ew%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557)

Been looking for this for about a year....and wanted to pay less than $200.

Given that this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stephen-King-s-2nd-pro-appearance-STARTLING-MYSTERY-STORIES-1969-/191842020606?hash=item2caaacecfe%3Ag%3AwQwAAOSw6wR XAqQm&nma=true&si=h4wqRVmLhbRC%252BMBMTkyMY1vH1Ew%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) sold for $101 on auction, and mine is in better shape, I think I paid a fair price.

Well, since I recently bought the book that contained King's 2nd professional sale, I figured I had to buy the book that had the first.

This arrived today........

Startling Mystery Stories No 6 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Startling-Mystery-Stories-Fall-No-6-STEPHEN-KINGS-1st-story-THE-GLASS-FLOOR-/182211214659?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=h4wqRVmLhbRC%252BMBMTkyMY1vH1Ew%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc)

It is exactly the same as the uncorrected proof, except that it's not written that on the cover, and that there is a random picture glued on the cover. Otherwise, everything is the same as the Proof, as it was printed at the same time !

OK, so it's been a while since I put up some new things. Earlier this year I found out that Bernie Wrightson was coming to Boston Comic Con. Many of us have heard about Bernie's health issues and knew that he was no longer doing remarques, in fact, his wife said he isn't doing any drawing at all, just appearances like these. Very sad. Still, it would be a chance to meet the man who, in addition to creating Swamp Thing, also did Wolves of the Calla and Cycle of the Werewolf. At minimum, I figured a signature was in order (I got a trade Calla signed). As I was perusing two portfolios containing sketches and prelim drawings, hoping for something King related, I was talking with Bernie's wife, Liz, who said that unfortunately all the King material was gone. But then I hit some surprises: a very rough prelim sketch for Werewolf, and some very cool prelim sketches used for Calla (they match up nicely with finished pieces in the Grant edition). When I showed her them, she laughed and said that she had thought they had all been sold, but I could purchase them if I wanted. Needless to say, I snagged them all and got Bernie to sign them as well. I might not be able to get a Wrightson remarque, but these prelims are a very cool alternative, and these are the last in his collection, or so says Liz. Well, here they are for your perusal - I have included some pics of Bernie signing them too.
