I have no idea how to post pictures(and not all books are in my physical presence yet)but I'm kinda proud of my recent acquisitions :)
Dolan's Cadillac S/L
Skeleton Crew Scream Press S/L
Cujo S/L
Christine S/L
Firestarter S/L (HAD to have his first S/L!)
These are the ones I've really wanted and finally decided to just go for it!

There are two ways to post photos. Either upload the photo to a web site that hosts photos and link to the photo with the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png icon, or you can upload to the site server in the Gallery.

If the photo is on your computer: From the menu at the top of the page click Gallery. From the upper right of the menu on top of the new page click Upload Photos. Click the Browse button. Navigate to the photo on your hard drive and select it. Click Open. Wait for the photo to upload. When it's complete you will be taken back to your gallery. You have three picture posting options. You can post the thumbnail, the medium sized image below the thumbnail, or you can click on the medium sized image and another window will open with a full sized image. Right click the image you want. Select Copy Image Location, then click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png button in the thread you want and paste the image location in the box. Click OK.

You did it!

notes: You can only upload one photo at a time. The site will reduce your large photo to the largest image allowed in the post. There are a few other options that you can play with after you learn the basics.

Thank you Brian! One of these days I WILL attempt this....

To match that Talisman S/L, I think you need a Talisman Gift set...

jsmcmullen92
04-19-2016, 05:50 PM
Thanks everyone. RF the only reason I bought it was because I bought the BH S/L for cheap and needed a Talisman to complete it lol. Plus I already have the Black House/Talisman Gift set. I guess the only thing left is the Talisman Gift. You know because a trade, scribner reprint, gift set, and S/L set isnt enough of 1 book lol

You should have seen my girlfriend when I told her how many copies of the Dark Tower series I have (and no S/L)

That case was fabricated by Dick Olson (Dolso cases), based upon an idea that Peter Schneider had for the S/L of The Stand that eventually became the coffin S/L.

Read the Peter Schneider interview (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?19282-Peter-Schneider-Question-and-answer-Thread-opens-8-19-2015-1PM-EDT&highlight=schneider)thread for fascinating background.

There are actually two different versions of the "A Note From Stephen King" that is included in some of the SK Book Club volumes. The text of the note is the same (I think) on both versions but they have different pictures of King and one is copyright 1989 and the other is copyright 1999. I believe the one in Ari's picture is the later one.

NoAttitudeThisTime
05-06-2016, 04:48 PM
Some SK Library editions have another one-page letter titled From the Desk of Stephen King. It's also in two versions, the first from 1998, the second from 2005. Then there was a rumor of yet a letter titled Welcome to the Library but it's speculated that it's a mistitle of A Note from Stephen King, although Welcome to the Library should have been from 1990 and not 1989. Was never able to track it down or find any info other than a 1990 SK Library advertisement that mentioned that you'll get a Welcome to the Library letter from King if you joined. Oh, I was also told that one collector was certain he/she had such a letter in his/her collection but apparently it was lost. Alas, the mystery has never been solved. It may exist somewhere and is very scarce, or it's a mis/retitle of A Note from Stephen King although the year doesn't jibe.

Got a good price for Dan Simmon's books, the Signatures book and One for the road. But the best was the calendar. That was an item I thought it'd be impossible to get. It includes King's film selections for october, 2003.

That is a nice item, Ari. Original nonfiction by King and (to my knowledge) available nowhere else. When I saw your picture I knew I had one but I couldn't find it where I thought it should be. I looked for about 30 minutes and was starting to panic when I found it misfiled by about four years in the nonfiction boxes.

The Jacob Burns Center showed Cujo on 10/30/03 and afterword there was a "party" which included "a very special treat to commemorate the evening." The "party" (as I understand it) was King discussing horror films with a critic from the NY Times. Tickets were $90 for members and $110 for nonmembers. I'm pretty sure the "special treat" was a signed copy of The Wolves of the Calla. However, in a public relations nightmare and a day that will live in infamy among Stephen King fans, Scribner sent second printings of the book. Most probably didn't even notice that they weren't getting first editions but the King community sure did and there was a lot of howling as you might imagine.

I'm not sure of how this went down but apparently you could buy a ticket and have the book sent to you if you were unable to be there in person. My records show I paid $125 and have a signed copy of the book (second printing of course), an unused ticket to the Cujo screening and, as a bonus I guess, the Jacob Burns Center calendar for October 2003 with the King writing.

Thanks, Ari, for sending me on a trip down memory lane.

And checking my notes further, the official release date for The Wolves of the Calla was 11/4/03. So the event at the Jacob Burns Center was 5 days prior to the official release. Which makes the sending of second printing books even more baffling.

How do you file your non-fiction pieces? I don't have nearly as many as you and for me it's impossible!

I file them in magazine boxes like this one. I think I bought these from Demco and they are used mostly in libraries. Usually each item is put in a magazine poly-bag with a backing board and a small sticker with the title and date is stuck on the front of the bag. I then file them chronologically. I have separate boxes for fiction, nonfiction and interviews. It looks like this (i.e. very low tech).

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/magazines1_zpsmxfyj9k9.jpg

The blue boxes have the nonfiction. The white boxes contain magazines or periodicals with interviews and articles about Stephen King. The pink boxes contain fiction.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/magazines2_zps5tabljra.jpg

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/magazines3_zps0ymh9hjb.jpg

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/magazines4_zpssjagf5ut.jpg

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb54/carlosdetweiller/magazines5_zpsnsvfzwyr.jpg

Some items are too big for the boxes, like newspapers and newspaper supplements (NY Times Book Reviews, etc.). I have a few large poly bags that I put several items in each one. Stickers are on the front of the poly bag to tell me what items are in each bag. In case you think the nonfiction section looks a little sparse all of the Entertainment Weekly magazines are in a separate magazine box which is completely full.

It is so interesting, to me anyway, that the Subterranean Press S/L of The Green Mile which was so reviled both before and after publication because of cost, perceived poor artwork and overall quality is now almost universally praised and desired by collectors. Personally I've always liked all three states (trade, numbered and lettered).

I'm guessing the low limitation has a lot of appeal plus the strength of the story doesn't hurt.

This is probably the best item I have in terms of rarity and uniqueness. I was lucky enough to get this recently from a serious collector. The 40th. Anniversary lettered edition of Carrie published in the UK by PS Publishing. I have copy "Z".

Here is a link that explains the item in better depth:

http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showwiki.php?title=Carrie+-+Deluxe+40th+Anniversary+Edition+Lettered+-+UK

What makes this unique is the limited, One off original artwork on each of the lettered copies. I have copy "Z" and it came with a art book that illustrated the rest of the art works and of course in the envelope marked "Z" the artwork that came with it.

So TRUE! When I took over Betts and approached SubPress to introduce myself, I was told SubPress would NEVER sell anything to Betts because Stu maligned the Green Mile publication so badly (apparently). It took a lot of doing to get them to sell to me, but this confirms Bob's memory that the book was maligned.

Frankly, I love the publication and the Lettered edition ranks in my top 3 favorites in terms over production/appearance.

David, might I ask what your top 3 in appearance are?
I would like to know this as well!

I just acquired a preliminary drawing for the cover of CD's Dark Delicacies by Jill Bauman. I also picked up the signed limited. I'm having fun picking out the differences.

Thanks Beverly, seems like everyone's getting the GM S/L at the moment. It is a beauty.

Got myself a copy of End of Watch (my local bookstore has it in stock already). I'm really looking forward to reading it! I finished The Fireman just in time. Also got myself a UK trade PB of City of Mirrors and a Penguin reprint of Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House, which I never read before. A good score, I think!

*edit: added a quick & dirty pic. Nothing special but I am very happy with these new additions to the ever growing TBR pile.

You're right, most bookstores here get the UK editions instead of the US editions, but we have two 'American Book Centers' in The Hague and Amsterdam that carry the US editions (and often the UK editions as well). I live very close to The Hague so I hopped on the train this afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised to find City of Mirrors as well (alas, no US hardcover yet).

Speaking of which, it would be great if one of my TDT friends could get me a US hardcover of City of Mirrors. I can wait for it to show up locally but the lady at the bookstore told me they didn't order it. And my experiences with Amazon have been underwhelming...

Great scores, some great reading ahead Michael. Australia rarely gets hardcovers AT ALL (maybe only 10-20% of new releases). We get UK large trade paperbacks. I asked a bookshop about this and they said it was due to shipping costs to Aus. So I get my hardcovers usually online from Book Depository - City of Mirrors arrived yesterday.

Congratulations on the S/L Frankenstein. As was discussed in another thread, Bernie Wrightson said his artwork is right up there with the best work he has done for any project in his career. (Interestingly he once told me he thought the work he did for the CD edition of From A Buick 8 was also among his best work). The book appeals to fans of King, Wrightson, Shelley and horror in general. Very collectible.

Also (recently discussed in another thread) one of the original full page pieces of artwork from that book recently sold for over $95,000 at Heritage Auctions!

Q: Why do you have Joe Hill's autograph on a piece of sports equipment?

A: Because I bumped into him and all I had on me was this golf club, and you're not gonna not get Joe Hill's autograph, right?

It took me a long time to find a Running Man with a spine this good. It appears unread or read lightly.

I just got this moments ago....REP POINTS to Aron M for the assist.

He helped me get THIS Remarque from Jae Lee in my #32/200 WTTKH UK S/L book and Jae did my request (since I own All Roland's so far...in fact I think that is all he has done). This is the Covenant Man with Tim on horseback....similar to the image on page 160 of the book! IT IS AWESOME in my opinion and I am thrilled!!!

Very cool, Tim. That's a great original image. It draws the eye so nicely up, down, left, right. Aesthetically simple and complex at the same time. I wish it was on my wall:) congrats!

Have to mention what a great job Audrey does with framing. Every piece that she sends is framed exquisitely and properly compliments the piece.

Very nice, Matt! Don't see a lot of these CD or PS items with signatures. No one wants to take them out on the unlikely event of getting a sig, I guess. This is probably the proof though, now that I think about it. Even better. Congrats!

Some of the stuff I got from my trip to the UK and NYC&NJ:

https://scontent-grt2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13445646_10210109949649962_6569601422480331622_n.j pg?oh=04f194cadd558cab4b965b7392979189&oe=57D76193

And a couple of things that arrived during my stay there. I'm really happy with the full notepad (Misery) and the End of Watch Sampler.

What's in that little Party Magazine? I guess the American Vampire anthology is an omnibus containing King's contributions? And these game magazines, are they King related?

The party magazine is a CD included in the Paste magazine :D

AV Anthology are stories related to the saga. None written by King but I love the saga.

Both magazines in the picture have essays by King.

Thanks! As far as I saw, the bookmarks are actually pages of the notepad removed. I had a couple of them and I compared them just to be sure. It seems each page was removed to be used as bookmarks.

They did that at the store counter when you bought the book. They had the pads at the counter and tore off a page to put one into each book purchased, IIRC.
