And....drum roll please.....

The book that I have been hunting for over 15 years...the LAST piece I needed in my Dark Tower personal collection.

Thanks to a member of this forum, I now own the elusive GUNSLINGER SPHERE UK PROOF...there may only be 5 in the world or very close to that!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/519/medium/GunSphere.jpg

AND THE GUNSLINGER PROOF TRIFECTA.....Orange Plume Gunslinger Proof (only one in world signed I believe)....Viking Gunslinger Proof (only one on world signed I believe)....and now the Sphere UK Gunslinger Proof (unsigned...for now!)

Less than 2 hours left till the end of the sale of one of the rarest items of Umberto Eco: his FIRST book, his academic THESIS from 1956 (see the link). I don't believe it will sell, though. It is not signed but looks great after 60 years. I do have this book: Signed + Located + Dated + EXPLAINED by Eco for me. One of a kind.

There are still 17 books left on U. Eco's desk. I had shipped them to his office in Milano for signing, just 2 weeks before he passed away. Can't wait to see them ... might be his very last DATED signatures in there. One item is even rarer than his Thesis, took me years to find it.

I recently had the opportunity to buy more Bulgarian Dark Tower paperbacks. They are not cheap at all, but I couldn't resist. They are pretty scarce as far as I know.
Really happy with these! 8)

Around 9 months ago I met a local Melbourne bookseller who had 2 books inscribed by SK (It’s very rare to have Australian dealers with flat-signed SK books, in my brief experience): A US Cujo (3rd, with some water damage to the end papers) and a US Firestarter (4th). The bookseller wanted silly money for them initially, given they’re not 1sts ($1,200 USD for both!). Just out of interest I took photos of the books to Tomas’ Collector site for opinion on signatures and worth (I wasn’t a member here at DT yet), and Mr Rabbit Trick helped out a lot with verification and value. Anyway, I left the books at the time and the seller came back twice with lower offers, which I declined. Anyway, last week I decided to contact him out of the blue - he still had the books and needed some quick cash apparently, so I offered him $250 US for both of them, and now they’re mine. They’re not 1sts, but I’ve wanted a (relatively) early King signature in my collection.:)

Unfortunately, however, my name is not Nancy...><

Congratulations, Ari! The Satyricon II Convention program with the first publication of writing from Pet Sematary (it preceded the publication of the book by several months) has gotten really hard to find. I used to buy them for $10 to $20 back in the 1990's but those days are long gone. Now they go for a lot more if you can find one.

Of course you know that the copy of Carrie in the picture has the more common dust jacket with the book title vertical on the spine. There is a rare state with the title horizontal.

Congrats Ari. And I've been looking for that Carrie DJ with the horizontal title for a long time! All you see out there is the one you have.

According to Peter Schneider none were supposed to have been released by the publisher. They recognized early on that it didn't look right when viewed upright on a shelf. The book was too thin and all of the letters couldn't be seen so you couldn't read the title easily. Peter sent me one that he still had and I doubted I would ever see another. But later I did happen to see one on eBay and I recognized it as one with the withdrawn dj. Just a bit of luck on my part. So, despite what Peter said, it seems likely that some made it out and were sold.

The one with Carrie printed horizontally on the spine is the rare (supposedly never issued) one. The one with Carrie running vertically is the common one.

If there were 3 or 4 copies in a single listing (Dutch auction, perhaps?) then I suspect it might have been someone within Doubleday who hoarded a few from in house.

Thank you fire monkey for Insomnia. Thank you to some sellers on E-bay too. Thank you bad moon books for Black House. Thank you Betts for the matching Dark Man S/L set and for the Chadbourne art which is my new avatar. The SOD is a matching set and Volume 2 has the remarque. The seller was from Ohio and not sure if he is on here. The traycases are a bit worn but the books are fine/fine. Bought a new one from CD, but not for Volume 2 :(. Bought the set and Dolan's for a super reasonable price. Not sure why the one picture is crooked, it wasn't saved on my computer that way.

With the remarqued Vol 2, my matching set was actually less then that. Got lucky though the traycases aren't perfect. So great job to you too! Man though....they are big books!!!

Thanks Allasorte, my deal wasn't quite so good as that, but close -$621 in a bid on eBay, and postage was weirdly cheap for them to Australia (relatively cheap, that is! US $40), which I was stoked about.

I read it too. Short but enjoyable. King and I are roughly the same age and his retelling of seeing and falling in love with Kim Novak in that movie really struck home with me. I had a very similar experience seeing Marilyn Monroe for the first time on screen in Some Like It Hot in 1959. I was 9 years old and felt some things for the first time that day.

I never noticed the numbers on the edges of the tickets. They must be close to selling out. I think the venue capacity is 2300. My tickets are 988 & 989. And I ordered as soon as the online site went live.

There are two ways to post photos. Either upload the photo to a web site that hosts photos and link to the photo with the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png icon, or you can upload to the site server in the Gallery.

If the photo is on your computer: From the menu at the top of the page click Gallery. From the upper right of the menu on top of the new page click Upload Photos. Click the Browse button. Navigate to the photo on your hard drive and select it. Click Open. Wait for the photo to upload. When it's complete you will be taken back to your gallery. You have three picture posting options. You can post the thumbnail, the medium sized image below the thumbnail, or you can click on the medium sized image and another window will open with a full sized image. Right click the image you want. Select Copy Image Location, then click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/editor/insertimage.png button in the thread you want and paste the image location in the box. Click OK.

You did it!

notes: You can only upload one photo at a time. The site will reduce your large photo to the largest image allowed in the post. There are a few other options that you can play with after you learn the basics.
