I got my beautiful slipcase in for Finders Keepers so I was able to take my book out of the bubble wrap bag, slip it into the cover and sit it next to Mr. Mercedes. They look amazing! These are going to look so striking once that 3rd book is in place! I can't wait!

Awesome, congrats! I'm waiting on my FK slipcase, now that they had them available again for ordering!

While in the process of acquiring the two primary pieces for my upcoming larger reveal, I've managed to pick up a few related originals from Michael along the way.

Sister Coquina can be found at the back of LSOE as a B/W and The Man in Black and Gunslinger are considered "prelims" that Michael did prior to finalizing the Cover/Interior art for LSOE.

Enjoy!

Picked up a Thinner 1/1 for $5 the other day from HPB. The book itself is in fine condition. The DJ has minor scuffing on it that you can see a little through the Brodart but it helps hide it from me so I don't have to worry yet :)

I found my matching DT1 on ebay, and then found my matching DT3 because I was contacted by someone who saw my posting on the now defunct Grant NUMBERS WANTED PAGE (we negotiated over a year....then listed it on ebay with no buyers....and then we eventually came to an agreement).

Realistically, I will never own Gunslinger s/l, but one can dream :)

I used to think that too....and then one day the number that matches the rest of my set showed up on ebay and I had to bite the bullet.

You may find yourdelf in a similar situation one day.
Did that really happen? WOW!

That happened to me years ago...

I got the s/l DT I, and then the DT III and IV showed up after that as a matched set - then of course I had V-VII locked in.

So it CAN be done...although, I'm still looking for DT II! I have an author's copy as a placeholder.

Alas I have not.

But you know what...that is ok...the hunt continues.

In the years I have been collecting, I have found 5 King S/Ls that match my set......bought three....passed on two.

There are always Gunslinger S/L Letterd and Numbered for sale, but S/L DT2 is the hardest to find.

Not King-related, but one of my collecting Holy Grails. This is "Silencing the Guns" by James Dietz, and depicts the 506 PIR "Easy Company" of Band of Brothers fame and their assault on German artillery at Brecourt Manor, Normandy. In the BOB mini-series, this takes place in Episode 2. The print is signed by four Easy Company vets .... including Dick Winters. This is my very first Dick Winters signature, and has taken me years to get. It popped up on eBay late last night at $1400 below the previous one offered and it was also "Make an Offer", so I figured nothing to lose .... and I got it for what I think was a complete steal (almost $2000 below the previous one). Needless to say, I am one happy camper!

Happened to me too....My first set, #296 I started with DTIV like Tippy and bought DT V-... from Grant. Sometime I think before book 5 came out, I saw my #296 on ABE.com from the same seller in upstate New York but separate listings. I bought all 3 (back then, I think I got Gunslinger S/L for $2000). Then on eBay much later on I found #296 of Gunslinger Tapes and #296 of UK Wizard & Glass S/L plus I bought the (then) 4 Whelan Dark Tower prints all #296. I love my #296 set as it was put together "the hard way."

I would like to thank you for posting this. My Great Uncle was Ltc. Charles Chase, the XO of the 506th PIR, second in command under Col Sink. It wasn't until after he passed in 1980 that I began to get an idea of just what his vast military career consisted of. Seeing the BOB, and paintings like this help bring his, and all veterans dedication and commitment to life again.

Corporal Walker - I'm retired USAF myself and was fortunate enough to have met some of the 506th and other vets on several trips to Bastogne while I was in Europe. I got a real taste and appreciation for what they did; folks today have no idea. Of course the popularity of Band of Brothers shone the spotlight on the 506th, but they were just a cog in the gear. This will be my 13th such print (produced by Valor Studios), and what makes them special to me are those signatures. I hope you've got some artifacts from your great-uncle's career to remember him by!

Brand new Gunslinger (2nd ed.). I just took it out of the wrap. It was listed as mint, no damage, and new. It was new and in fine condition aside from a dent to the top spine-side corner. It was hard to see in the wrap, so it's possible the seller didn't know. Can I fix it (there is no damage to the book itself)? Should I ask for a partial refund?

Since you took it out of the wrap i doubt the seller would offer a partial refund.

DoctorZaius
12-19-2015, 07:39 PM
Unfortunately, I have to agree. Once the shrink-wrap has been removed, the seller has no way of knowing if the condition had changed. That's how I would look at it. I have a first edition still in shrink-wrap, and if I were to sell it, I would not offer any refund unless the book were returned in the same condition.

What if I have pictures of it damaged IN the shrinkwrap? Though I don't really want to return it if someone knows a good way of flattening out the DJ. It is in amazing condition otherwise

Unfortunately the paper of the jacked doesn't make it easy to remove such creases - i have on myself and try to flatten it out, but it will never go away fully.

Once bought a stand alone cover, and this had some creases to - no chance to remove them.

I agree to the others, if your removed the shrink-wrap , its hard to argue , but try. Maybe the seller agrees to you. Even if i dont expect it, its always better to ask then not to ask at all.
Otherwise its like you said, its a fantastic book and in great condition, so if you flatten it a little and put it in a mylar cover it might even not be seeable anymore.

If i may ask, why did you open it, i you saw it before ?
No intend to sound sarcastic, but if you see some damages you did not expect - i would not open it, but return it directly.

I think you can get most of what you see well minimized, and with the Brodart will be hard to tell. I think you have a little wiggle room to ask for a partial refund if the description was As New. The damage would have been clear in person though not visible on the picture, so the description wasn't quite accurate. I'd be polite about it, but I think you were right to take off the wrap for this seller to check for other condition issues. As many had already said, it can't be guaranteed to be the original wrap and it could be used to hide other problems with the book if it wasn't removed.

stroppygoblin
12-20-2015, 02:00 AM
whilst I disagree in principle that removing the shrink wrap forfeits any rights to a refund (you have zero rights to a partial refund by the way, thats just negotiation with the buyer, he is only required to refund) - in this case I think removing it knowing there was a possibility of damage has made your case difficult to argue. Even if you have pictures before the removal, as the seller I would question why you would remove it, as in their eyes you have potentially reduced it's selling value. YOU may be unhappy with a small crease, but many others would accept it.

Unless you paid a ridiculous amount of money to get a perfect copy I would just put it on my shelf and be happy. :)

Randall Flagg
12-20-2015, 05:40 AM
Put a broadart cover on it and you may not even see the slight ding.
As mentioned, unless it was listed as perfect and you are seeking to return it for a full refund, just enjoy the book.

You can obtain a full refund through eBay buyer protection even if the seller disagrees. You can get a partial refund only at the discretion of the seller. I don't see any harm in asking politely.

There are ways to flatten creased paper. Heat, pressure, controlled humidity and time will help. You do have to be careful to avoid damaging it further though.

Don't try this on an expensive (Gunslinger) dustjacket for your first effort; Place a clean paper on a hard surface. Place the dustjacket face down on the paper. Cover the dustjacket with a clean thin cloth. Using a clean steam iron you can carefully iron the affect area. The trick is to use enough heat and moisture to allow the fibers to relax. The problem of course is overdoing it and causing more damage. Once ironed then place the dustjacket in a book press or stack heavy books on top.

Probably better to put the Brodart on it and be happy.

Well when I buy any expensive book I take pictures of it immediately upon receiving it; as a safety measure for damages. I thought the top corner looked dinged, but the listing specifically said no corner bumps, and it was hard to tell for sure through the wrap. I removed the wrap and it was obviously a dent. When I look back at the wrapped photos, having already seen the dent, I can tell, but I can see how the seller may have overlooked the damage through the wrap.

EDIT: I asked the seller for a reasonable 25$ refund, just for me having to deal with the dent, and they immediately accepted. That brings the cost of the book down to 300$, and considering it's mint (other than the dent), I think I can live with that.

Had a couple of arrivals today.

First, The Bachman Books 1st/1st. I was looking for this one for a good 6 months to no avail, or at least nothing at a reasonable price. A first print of this thing seems to come up next to never other than people wanting $300+ for it. Finally this one came up for a straight auction and I thought I would be able to get it for what I thought it was supposed to be worth, around $150 or so. That didn't happen! I ended up paying $225 for it, but I was determined to get it since it seem like they just don't come up much. It isn't in Fine condition, but not too bad for this book from what I have seen.

thanks! I looked at the book page, but failed to read the discussion :)

No problem:) Congratulations on the purchases, by the way!

Congrats !! show us the library !!!!

Just before I found out I was being transferred (or severed), I had ordered some Billy bookcases from Ikea. I decided not to assemble them after they arrived about a month later, so I will build them when I move in. The movers are loading on the 30th of Dec. So look for pictures (in my collection thread) around Feb or so.

You know, of all the pictures taken by the builder during the build process, I don't think I have any pictures of the bedrooms (except master).

Here is the floor plan for the 2nd floor (I got the optional media room with the wet bar). I haven't decided which room will be the library. (Master bedroom on ground floor). I think it will either be Bedroom #2 or Bedroom #3. The window in Bedroom #2 faces south, and bedroom in #3 faces north. The lots on either side of my property have not been sold, so I don't know if my neighbors houses will be 1 or 2 stories (probably 2, since the lots are small, so can't get a big footprint for a single story home). Which ever room is not the library will be a storage/exercise room (or exercise equipment storage room ). Bedroom #4 will be a guest room. Any recomendations on which room should be the library/den?

Bedroom #3. It's the largest and the north facing window should have zero direct sunlight. You still should put tint and blinds/curtains on the window.

Yesterday was a good day for me getting stuff in the mail. I was lucky when a Bazaar of Bad Dreams UK proof got listed on ABE a couple of weeks ago for $100. I must have seen it pretty soon after it was listed. It arrived yesterday. Number 65 in case anyone is keeping track.

I also got a copy of the Hard Case Crime edition of Joyland. This is one of the ones with a Robert McGinnis drawing. I am normally not attracted to books with added drawings but I really wanted one of these. Interestingly three of us collectors ordered these at about the same time. Steve Sargent at Analecta Books messed up the shipping and becca69 received my copy in the mail. We had exchanged e-mails earlier and she knew that this was the drawing I had requested so she sent it on to me. I have not received anything from Analecta yet but I assume I will get a copy that I will forward to the correct owner. What a clusterf.......! Anyway I am grateful to becca69 for going to the post office during the busiest time of the year to make sure I got my correct copy.

A couple of other things arrived. I bought that ex-lib copy of Carrie from eBay that was posted here for $100. The dj is near perfect but has the library sticker on the spine. I felt certain that I could get it off with heat from a hair dryer and tweezers but it is stuck pretty hard. I am sending it to Dragonfly Bindery. George Sargent said he could get it off with no problem. He has all kinds of solvents. I plan to marry the dj with a beautiful but jacketless copy of Carrie that I bought for $75 a while back.

I also got my PS Publishing edition of Skeleton Crew from Subterranean Press.

I am still waiting on my lettered Thinner from PS Publishing. Tracking says it cleared through Chicago on 12/13 but no data after that. It is registered mail so I am not too worried but where the heck is it?

All of you know I'm a Dark Tower nut case. Squirreled away somewhere I have a flatsigned 1st edition of Legends (1998 ) which features the story Little Sisters of Eluria for the first time. Well, courtesy of a member here, I was able to pick up this inscribed copy to Marty, first by King and then on the next page artist Erik Wilson did a Remarque of Roland and then inscribed to Marty on opposing page and dated year of publication. I don't know for a fact that King's signature was done at the same time, but maybe I'm hoping King's signature is also year of publication.

David, King almost certainly signed the book on 11/23/98. This book was discussed recently in another thread. Stu Tinker had a dinner for several people the night before the signing. Erik Wilson was signing and drawing in books at that dinner. Doesn't your book also have Terry Goodkind's signature dated 11/22/98 also? The original owner almost certainly used the book as one of his two books at the signing the next day with King.

Well, Bob, you are amazing as always....I turned to Terry's story and there plain as day was an inscription to Marty from Terry Goodkind. AWESOME!! Means that this book was all signed year of publication. Man, wish I had been at that event with all of you. All the big boppers were there. I was still just a King collector neophyte working on my first edition collection. I had no clue there was an event.

Still, when I bought Betts, one of the things I "bought" were 2 Bag of Bones event tickets...I think they were #19 and #20. I kept #19 and I think gave the other ticket to someone else.

I still have a "bunch" of stuff that came with the store that have just been put in storage. Stu had a large paper mache (spelling?) Stephen King head that he said was made by a local artist. It was on his "books" at $2500. It's been in a box in my storage unit for 6 years and I've never looked at it.

Stu had that paper mache head hanging in the old Betts Bookstore on Main Street. I saw it a couple of times. I never made it to the Hammond Street store so I don't know if it hung there too. It was a much smaller store and there may not have been room. I can't recall if Stu had a price on it or not. I think I heard him say it was not for sale. It was an iconic item and I think he had photos of it in a few of his newsletters. I always thought it was pretty cool. It wasn't an item I wanted to buy but it was a perfect wall decoration for Betts Bookstore.

It took some digging but I finally found it. This is from a Betts Bookstore flyer from 1994. I guess I was mistaken and it was always for sale (isn't everything?) Anyway here is a photo. The picture is not the greatest but I remember this being very well done and pretty big. IIRC it was probably 18 to 24 inches tall. Not an item for everyone but it really looked good hanging in the old Betts Bookstore on Main St.

Thanks to Ralph M for selling me cheaply his spare copy of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon-PopUp Book (http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=16629&cat=863)! This was Box #1 of 2 that arrived for me on the 23rd. I don't know if I'll get the other one posted tonight though. Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry for the question -- I know it's been asked and answered numerous times. I want to paste of few P&Js but I'm not sure how to do it. The pics aren't the best but the books are pretty good. Thankful for any help!

Funny, it just arrived a few minutes ago, but unfortunately it was damaged. There was a big sticker on from USPS saying "received in damaged condition." Package was all beat up. Will have to re-order it again.

As of today I have been out of work for 199 days! Thus there have been few purchases (P&Js of any sort) for quite some time.

I have always kept a wish list on Amazon, but have never shared it with anyone - me and my wife were ordering some Christmas gifts through my Amazon Prime Account and she noticed the wish list. I told her it's just where I keep a running list of things (mostly books) that I'd like to purchase someday. Later when I wasn't around she checked out my wish list and I was pleasantly surprised when I opened this on Christmas Eve. I had no idea it was these two books when I picked up the package. They are the heaviest books I have ever seen. At lease as heavy as Knowing Darkness which is twice the size. I am happy to add the Marvel Dark Tower Omnibus to my DT Collection. OH and she also bought a small paperback called The Wit and Wisdom of Stephen King, Edited by Andrew Rausch!

As to the work front! I accepted a new position (with a 15% increase over my last job), but am still waiting for the clearance to go though. Hopefully within the next week or so I will be back at work as a Technical Project Manager working on a TSA Contract!

My friend and member here had one more 'Salem's Lot that I wanted but I was unsure. I didn't think I could find anything better than the other two books but he had it and now I'm proud to own it...and the trifecta!! I will try to post the pictures soon. I really think the wait will be worth it. No more hints -- I'll post after some Coke (Coca-Cola)...my biggest/worst habit.

LOL -- wasn't too difficult, was it?

And here's the 1st state. Hutch and I made the deal last summer. I followed through in Sep/Oct and Dave personally delivered the books to me in October. Still holes to fill but this really proud and lucky to own it!
