I am watching the teaser movie for 28 weeks later called 28 days later and I am waiting on it to stop sucking.

ZoNeSeeK

you mean the teaser for the sequel to 28 days later called 28 weeks later? :P

Yeah its not firected by Boyle and Cillian isnt in it so im dubious.

I haven't seen much of anything on 28 Weeks. Cillian's not in it? Pfffffft. Did they carry any of the characters over?

Its funny because all the previews show that guy and he's not even in the movie. Its like they want you to remember how cool it was.

My thoughts exactly. No Cillian? Well then, fuck you 28 Weeks Later.

(Although in reality my obsession with Zombie/ish movies is way too big to allow this movie to pass me by without going to see it... and I've already promised my sister that we'd see it together.)

When was it cool? How popular was this movie that it required a sequel? I remember watching it and thinking, "ok, this must be when it gets really good" and being dissapointed everytime. Resident Evil might have been dissapointing crap but it was TONS better than this shit. Even Shawn of the Dead was better than this shit as a serious movie, and as a comedy, it rocked my socks.

Rjeso

I heart Shaun of the Dead. I neeeed to see Hot Fuzz.

Matt
05-11-2007, 07:21 AM
Shaun of the Dead is my favorite zombie movie.

I did think 28 days was cool because of the idea itself. They really wanted to eat you, know way to know if it was the whole world, the guy was such an anti-hero.

I liked Children of Men for the same reasons.

Rjeso
05-11-2007, 07:27 AM
Yeah, I thought 28 Days Later was fun. It was predictable in the "oh, there's a big window, an infected's gonna crash through it" sort of way, but it was still entertaining to watch. I don't like many horror flicks for that very reason, but that one transcended it in some inexplicable way.

Shaun of the Dead was just hilarious. I love British humor.

Matt
05-11-2007, 07:29 AM
Exactly. I felt the same way about Cell.

The second time through, when I wasn't chomping at the bit to find out what happened to his boy, it ended up with a lot of interesting aspects.

And I am the same, I don't really do the whole "Dawn of the Dead" and other movies like that. Sometimes the gross out factor is too high. :arg:

Laney and I are reluctantly psyched about going to see it this week. We absolutely LOVED the first one, but we're both kinda confused as to how they'll overcome the virus being contained in the UK and reappearing in what appears to be the US. Regardless, for those who will be waiting for the video or simply don't plan on seeing it, i'd be happy to provide an unbiased review sometime in the next week or two.

White Zombie
Braindead
Evil Dead and Evil Dead II
Fulci's-Zombie
Fulci's-City Of The Living Dead
Dellamorte Dellamore
Reanimator
Army Of Darkness
Make Them Die Slowly

28 days later was awesome. Like Children of Men (one of the best films of last year imo), the brits are just naturals at punchy and realistic doom films. Its unrealistic for the good side of people to always shine through.

Like the berko army unit towards the end of the movie - the viewer is expecting some kind of hollywood salvation at the end of their journey, but humans are always capable of making things worse.

Matt

Precisely!!!

To me, it was one of the most intense and horrifying (Horrifying... not creepy) movies i've ever seen in a theater. If you are planning on seeing this, please, I beg you, see it on the big screen in a theater with a good sound system. There is no possible way that the intense nature of this movie can be conveyed the way it is mean't to be conveyed in the comfort of your home.

It's the only 'zombie' movie i've ever seen where I truly felt that the scope of the epidemic and the the terror that the survivors endure is what would truly go down.

fernandito
05-23-2007, 02:57 PM
I went to go see it again last night, and I took my sister. I wouldn't shut up about it and the curiosity finally got to her. I told her that there was a scene there that would make her squirm and wince, and she said : "there hasn't been a single scene in any movie to make me squirm."

Once again, I'm talking about the scene where

the guy digs his thumbs into his wife's eyes.

When that scene came on, I could hear her muttering "ohmygodohmgodohmygod", then she finally broke and buried her face into her hands:lol:

I thought 28 weeks later was pretty good. The coolest thing for me was the locations in London on the big screen. I walk across that bridge, where Cillian picks up all the money, all the time. No, but somebody recommended it in the horror forum, so I looked it up up, thought it sounded cool, and added it in my queue.

Rocky 5 was way worse than this one.
For sure, it was so much better than that one. That's why I'm kinda glad he made this movie, it leaves this series with a better taste in your mouth than that horrid piece of crap which is #5.

Anyone seen Spiderman 3, I have heard mostly bad things about it, but a couple of friends saw it and said it was good.
I liked it but it was not on par with the first two.
It just feels like it has too much content crammed in w/o enough build up time. With all the characters they try to fit in.

I saw Letters From Iwo Jima the other night. I thought it was real good, definitely worth a rental. I liked getting to see what that battle might have looked like from the opposing perspective.
It was also interesting to see the act of them commiting suicide covered in the way that it was. All the other movies I've seen just depict them doing it as emotionless robots. It was interesting to see how they showed the emotions of those who were about to kill themselves for honor's sake, and also the ones who didn't want to go through with their own suicide.

Saw Shrek 3. And to jump on the bandwagon, I would give it 4 and half beers out of a sixpack.

No, but somebody recommended it in the horror forum, so I looked it up up, thought it sounded cool, and added it in my queue.

Hmm, not sure if I would call it a horror film. In a way, I think that cheapens the film. Not to say that all horror films are cheap, but most modern day horror films do tend to have a stigma about them.

It's more of a revenge flick.

Yeah, that was me that mentioned Old Boy. I wouldn't call it scary, SS is right about it being a revenge flick. Though with the gore, and personal tragedies the main character goes through, it can almost be classified as a horror movie.

I watched several this weekend.

Music and Lyrics--it was great. I love Drew Barrymore and she was funny in this one. Obviously not something I would go out of my way to watch, but it was fun.

Apocolypto--Wonderful!! Fast paced ride with plenty of hard stuff for me but not too bloody for Dora. Man, that dude can take some punishment.

I loved the whole I am going to jump of a waterfall that is impossible for you to survive...don't try it. Then they do.

Letters from Iwo--Much better than Flags imo. Really shows the dark side of war in the way that we had to make the enemy look like monsters so we could fight and they were just scared boys. Great movie.

I thought 28 weeks later was pretty good. The coolest thing for me was the locations in London on the big screen. I walk across that bridge, where Cillian picks up all the money, all the time. And the tunnel they get chased through is down the road from me. Bloody thing, its murder at rush hour! I'd rather go through with the infected than the commuters!

That's 28 days later, love. :)

Saw movies
Hostel

Anything where lots of blood splatters the camera.

I think Mel heard the complaints about Passion being too much and toned it down a bit. In the head chopping scene, he could have focused on the neck and the chop but most of it was side scene to something else.

So not too bloody considering whats out there.

I don't get the constant need to show the gore all the time. I can kinda understand in Passion. He had a point to make there. Although that is the reason I couldn't make myself go see it. But any other movie it doesn't seem that necesssary. I saw the movie Blood Diamond (VERY good BTW) and there was a scene where a guy got his hand cut off. You saw them put his arm across the log, you saw the machete go down, you heard it chop and you heard the guy scream. I think we got the point without showing the blood spurting like the black knight scene in Monty Python. Believe me, it made me squirm in my seat. It didn't need to show it.

Apparently the movie and the book have different slants or direction on the same central story. Cuaren (sp?) (the director) added a far more political bias in the film re: england's foreign and immigration policies, criticism of the insitution etc (similar to V for Vendetta but not as central to the plot), probably because the book was written by a British senator (PD James i think?). I thought they would have had pink floyd on the soundtrack somewhere :)

I really loved Children of Men and was looking forward to reading the book. I was actually pretty disappointed. It wasn't bad but it just didn't do anything for me. Maybe if I read the book first, then saw the movie I would have felt differently. So in this case, I can easily say the movie was better than the book.

I thought it was a very well made movie with great acting performances. Although he wasn't in it very much, I continue to be impressed with Chiwetel Ejiofor who was also in The Inside Man with Clive Owen. I loved his scene near the end where he is having a conversation with Theo as bullets ricochet around the wall near him. Good stuff.

Unnecessary gore more often than not reveals creative impotence.

Was watching Hitchcock's Rebecca once again... Remember that scene in the mortuary, when he has to identify her body? We see several men, they are standing their backs to us and looking down at something lying at the table we can't really see. A single lamp shines from above, they are standing in that circle of light, the rest in darkness. Then they all turn away from her and move towards us, their faces expressionless, eyes looking inside, as if they were still seeing what they had just seen.

In most modern movies, the director would feel compelled to show the decomposed body. It wouldn't produce one tenth of the impression...

I watched Old Boy the other night. I loved it. Besides having plenty of violence for those looking for that I especially liked the dentistry with a hammer bit. hehe, it has a great story and keeps you really interested right up until the very end. I enjoyed the dark humor of the movie as well. After watching it, I can understand why you would want to defend it being just labeled as "another horror film", since it is so much more than that, though as both of you have stated, it does have it's share of moments that would please a fan of the horror genre. I guess in my parting thoughts, I would just say that I'm glad this was recommended to me, and it was one of those movies that stuck with me after I watched it. I kept thinking about things from the movie. It's nice when you come across a movie that has that effect on you.

A couple of final thoughts. I also like the psychological thriller elements in it. I like how it keeps you guessing and involved with the storyline. The theme of revenge is well executed. You start off thinking that it's gonna be about Dae-su seeking revenge against Woo-jin, and then realize that Dae-su has more trials ahead of him still yet. Woo-jin's statement "Whether it is a grain of sand or a rock, in water they both sink alike", of course saying that even a small act such as when Dae-su saw Woo-jin with his Sister and setting the rumor on it's course is worthy of revenge. Even though this was a minor act, that makes no difference in the revenge that Woo-jin is planning for Dae-su. I like the little hints that we are thrown, like the reason that Dae-su was imprisoned was because of his wagging tongue, and then we are shown why, and then in the end when Dae-su cuts off the tip of that wagging tonuge that led to all of his troubles. I also like the ending with the snow falling symbolizing Dae-su possibly getting a chance at some sort of a fresh start and a chance at possible redemption of his soul.

I watched The Bridge today. It is a documentary about the world's most prolific suicide destination, The Golden Gate Bridge. I thought it was a well made and moving documentary, and yes this film is disturbing, but it is also engrossing. The film is in no way over graphic, and I feel that it treats the subjects of the film in a respectful manner. Whether you want to see it or not depends on whether you are willing to go where the film takes you mentally, but as I just said, it is done with tact in how they deal with the deceased. I would recommend it as long as you know what you're getting into going in, yes it was a sad film, but it was also a very good documentary. Just keep in mind that there is actual footage of people jumping, but as I said it is not overly graphic, as they don't show a continuous shot.

A few of the parts that really stuck with me. The father of one of the jumpers who talks about how he grew to accept the fact that his son was going to commit suicide, and just the amount of detail he goes into. Also, the story of that photographer who took a photo of that girl who was going to jump, and then the photographer pulls her back over the railing and manages to stop her. The story told first hand by the one guy who managed to survive his suicide attempt, and how he had second thoughts the minute he left the bridge. His whole story was very moving. Of course the eventual footage of the long haired guy jumping(forget his name), who is discussed in detail, and then we eventually see his last moments. His whole story was very involving.

Deadwood rocks!!

You're probably better off waiting to read the books, in my opinion, right now I'm pissed off with what was left out. But You'll like the books if you like the movies. I didn't start reading them until after watched the 3rd movie.

let's start with the Japanese

if you liked Seven Samurai, I believe you would love more Kurosawa. I would especially recommend Yojimbo (The Bodyguard), Ran (King Lear), Kagemusha (The Shadow Warrior), and the classical Rashomon. I haven't yet seen Kumonosu-Jo (Throne of Blood) and Akahige (Red Beard), but I am going to, in the nearest future (bearpurrs in anticipation). There are other interesting Japanese directors (for example, Kenji Mizoguti, such films as The Life of Oharu or Tales of the Pale and Silvery Moon After the Rain), but Kurosawa is the greatest!

I watched this one last night as well. Mayhap we were watching at the same time? While this isn't a movie I'm likely to watch again anytime soon, it was entertaining. Like yourself, I wasn't expecting a whole lot going in, but I always put the new horror flicks in my queue even if I think they might suck, sometimes there's something to be gleaned even from the suckiness. ;) Not that this was one of those, I did enjoy it.

I watched an interesting low budget horror flick last night. It is definitely in the b-range, but I thought it was fun. It's called Behind the Mask:The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It is about this trio that's documenting an aspiring movie-style killer, along the lines of Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. It documents him planning his murder spree and such. I'll leave it at that. It is low budget, but I thought it was clever and had some good humor in it. I thought it was worth a rental, I enjoyed it. But keep in mind, I have a high tolerance for low budget horror movies.

I saw the Transformers last night/morning. The action was orgasmic, but there were some things I could of done without, like the credibility of some of the situations. For example, the scene where they're 'hiding' in the garden, you mean to tell me none of the neighbors are going to notice 15+ foot metallic things roaming around in the neighbors garden? And didn't the movie sometimes feel like a car commercial? I kept expecting to hear someone in the background scream : "AHHHHHHHH LIKE A ROCK!!"

I though Transformers was amaing. I had no hope for it when I went and saw it because I knew they had made Bumblebee a Camaro, and that annoys me, because in my eyes, Bumblebee having an inferiority complex and still always coing to the rescue was the crux of the show. They did ok with taht though, by making him an old beat up camaro, at least. All in all, it was a great movie. A few people I know have been complaining about teh product placement, but what they don't seem to rememebr is that transformers was really just a 30 minute commercial for the toys anyway, as most 80s cartoons were. The product palcement didn't bother me.

The more I think about it, the less I like it.

I was pretty annoyed that they didn't really attach you to Sirius.
I was very annoyed that they left out the whole sirius giving harry the mirror and telling him to speak into it if he needs him, and the scene at the end where harry is crying and trying to talk into the mirror. I think that is a very important part of the book for them to leave out.

The battle in the ministry was missing a lot of stuff as well, Neville getting his nose broken, Ginny hurting her ankle, in fact, the kids hardly did anything.

It also annoyed me that the conversation at the end between Harry and Dumbledore was so calm. When I read that scene in the book it was a very moving part and I imagines harry being upset, crying and screaming at Dumbledore.

All in all, that book is way more emotional than the movie was.

that's why I am so reluctant to watch those movies at all. I suspected that, the books being so packed both with actions and emotions/metaphysics - work for mind and heart and soul - they would have to omit something, and I didn't want to see them sacrifice the soul-working part.
