Okay, I was born in Boston 36 yrs. ago the second youngest of four brothers. When I was five we moved to Virginia where I lived until I was about twenty one. I left school and home at fifteen. Then at about eighteen I took a break from everything for about two and a half years and hitchiked around the country. About thirteen or fourteen years ago I came to visit my brother here in NC for a week and have been here ever since.

Well...on to the questions. Ask anything. :)

Hi Brice :couple:

When did you start smoking and what is your brand of choice?

What is your favorite non dark tower stephen king book?

On your travels, what was the most interesting town you went to and why?

What is your favorite shirt?

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

Hey Brice. Here are a couple for you based on some of what I know about your musical tastes...

I know you saw MANY Dead shows. Do you have any particular favorites of the shows you saw? (Perhaps a favorite venue you saw them at, or any particularly memorable moments from any of these shows?)

I know your favorite band is the Beatles and that you love ALL Beatles' songs, but if you had to pick a favorite album (and for the purpose of this question, you do) what would it be?

Hi Brice :couple:

Hey Sarah! :huglove:

When did you start smoking and what is your brand of choice?

I started smoking at fifteen. I was in a detention home at the time and they had a rule that allowed you to smoke if you were at least fifteen and already smoked when you got there. I didn't like the idea of being told I couldn't, so I told them I already did. I told my mom the same. I started smoking Marlboro 100s. Now I smoke Marlboro reds and Newports equally.

What is your favorite non dark tower stephen king book?

That's a tough one and it does change sometimes. I really love them all. I guess if I had to pick I'd say The Stand.

On your travels, what was the most interesting town you went to and why?

Hmmm.. to me places are essentially the same really. I mean some of them are prettier, but ultimately it's just background. For me the travelling was more about getting away from my life for a bit and meeting lots of people. :)

What is your favorite shirt?

I don't know that I have one. I have lots I like. I couldn't pick one, but my favorites would probably be my concert t-shirts because of the memories that go with them.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

Probably flying...unless invisibility counts as a super power. Then I'd probably pick that.

I know you saw MANY Dead shows. Do you have any particular favorites of the shows you saw? (Perhaps a favorite venue you saw them at, or any particularly memorable moments from any of these shows?)

Well, first of all I don't even remember half the shows I was at. I can't even confirm every state I've been in. But on to your question I'd say the best show I recall was either my first show in either Greensboro or Charlotte, NC or an RFK show that later was made into a video...maybe one of the View from The Vaults. I'll have to find it for you. That first show was great just because of the whole vibe and the group of people I was with. I was working at a bar/restaraunt where mostly local bands played and this Dead cover band was playing. They also had their own albums. Anyhow I met this women in her mid forties or so and got to talking to her. Soon afterwards I started hanging out with the local dead following. There was a fairly large one in this part of VA. Then one day she just told me she was taking me to my first show. So we drove down to NC from VA. We stayed at a campground. I Met lots of cool people, dosed, smoked, and drank in the parking lot and just hung out all day. Lots of drum circles going on. I'd never heard of anything like it. Anyhow by the time we went in I was so far gone I can barely remember much of the concert itself. There were actually lots of shows like this later on. The RFK show I don't even believe I got in, but we could hear it in the lot clear as can be. I remember an especially nice Stella Blue and little more.

I know your favorite band is the Beatles and that you love ALL Beatles' songs, but if you had to pick a favorite album (and for the purpose of this question, you do) what would it be?[/QUOTE]

The Beatles (The White Album)

What's your favorite movie?

Favorite? I can't do it. A few of my favorites are Clockwork Orange, The Wizard Of Oz, True Romance, and Fantasia. I could go on for a long time as I'm sure you could.

What's your favorite food?

I don't have a specific favorite. My favorite types of food are Japanese and Italian though.

Tell me a really funny story about something you did while under the influence :cyclops:

This is not a question. :P Nah, I'll get this one later when I have time to think on it.

Favorite animal?

Probably cats. Really though I'm generally not especially fond of animals in general...just certain ones I like. It depends on their personality.

When are you visiting Richmond, KY next?

Probably around the time you decide to hop in the car and come get me. I am close to broke for a long time to come.

I never dance. If a gun were pointed at my head I'd rather be shot than dance.

I don't really have a booze of choice. I like all different kinds of drinks.

UFOs, yes. I'm just not sure I believe in spaceships with aliens or any of that. Really, I'm a bit skeptical of that sort of thing. I'm not saying there isn't some other form of life out there somewhere. I think there probably is.

Would you travel in time if you could?

Absolutely!

Where would you go?

Oh, I don't know. Probably lots of different places.

:huglove:

I've been picking your brains via pm's and stuff for like for...5 million years  :couple: So I thought of some stuff I don't think I ever asked you:

Why/how did you chose the name Quiddityquest?

Partly because of the name of a sea in a Clive Barker story (quiddity) and partly because of finding the meaning of the word.

Quiddity=the essence of a thing

quiddityquest=the search for the essence of a thing

Are you sentimental about possessions, or could you easily get rid of everything you own?

I'm extremely sentimental about possesions, but i'd be fine if I lost everthing. This has happened many times. Matter of fact I don't think I own much, if anything from before about fifteen years ago.

What 3 positive words would you pick to describe yourself?

Hey Brice!
Why did you pick up and leave at age 15?

There's alot involved in that question David. It wasn't entirely my decision though it was a result of decisions I made. My father had gone to prison when I was nine and he was a bastard, so there was no loss there. Well, when I was fifteen my mom started dating this guy and shortly after he moved in and decided he was gonna' be daddy. He was wrong. :) I saw rather quickly what the rest of my familly would begin to see in the coming years: basically that he was very much like my father. We argued constantly and violently.. This one day he kept pushing me (not physically) and wouldn't let me walk away from him. When I went to my room he came in and kept trying to "talk" to me. Well, after I ignored him for awhile he hit me in the back of the head and told me to get up. So I did. :D He proceeded to continue his argument with various inanimate objects such as chairs, tables...ummm a pitchfork. He got tired of arguing and went to the police. My mother went with him to press charges against me and I went to detention. After leaving various detention homes I went to job corps, but I didn't stay there long. I ran away. The cops brought me back, but i told the guy who ran the place I was just gonna' go again when he turned his back...and every time he did. He called my mother got the okay to send me home and I went for about a week. My mother's boyfriend and I simply couldn't get along at all. So I left. After that I never really stayed there for longer than a weeek. I'd go back to visit occasionally, but we always ended up fighting.

Any regrets about doing so?

I don't really believe in regret. If I did I'd probably still say leaving home was the best thing possible given the situation.

Red Sox or Yankees?

RED SOX!!!!! :D

Ever bungee jumped?

No, but I think I'd like to.

I have, but not for the past few weeks or so. My roommates are out of work till school starts up again and their baby is home from daycare. Also her other two children are visiting. I generally try to be quiet when they're all here for the most part.

How far away are you from Raleigh?

82.35 mi. as the crow flies and 95.2 miles driving. I'm right on I95 right before the SC line. I've been there many times.

No, I've never been to the state fair and I didn't know they had the biggest alligator either.

I'm really not sure. I've thought of leaving lots of times and starting anew, but I'm not sure where I'd go. This is as settled as I've ever been in one place really.

both. I didn't read the book, but talking only about the movie might lead us astray - it's much too easy to explain how good it is, cinema-wise, because it sure is, it's a splendid example of talented production.

please explain to me in a few words (if possible) why you like A Clockwork Orange so much

The book, the film, or both?
both. I didn't read the book, but talking only about the movie might lead us astray - it's much too easy to explain how good it is, cinema-wise, because it sure is, it's a splendid example of talented production.

Well, the film is indeed striking, both visually and morally I think. The book goes a bit further though IMO. For example the two ten year olds our beloved droog and humble narrator Alex seduces and rapes in the book are substantially older. And then of course the homosexual rape scene is cut from the film. While (for it's time in America) the film was a bit shocking and over the top the book is more so.

First of all I absolutely love the way Burgess plays with language. In some ways similar to the way Joyce did the same, but not to the same insane extremes. In fact Burgess was likely influenced in that regard considering he wrote several books on Joyce's use of language. Basically, I love that you have to figure out what words mean as you go. This is posssible (if sometimes a little difficult with first reading A Clockwork Orange. With Finnegan's Wake which is easily Joyce's most complex work it is nearly impossible to fully interpret and understand.

I think the book (and the film) are interesting in that they make the reader/viewer sympathize and empathize with Alex. Despite his wicked behavior you are left feeling that Alex is your friend.

Also, when Kubrick made the film he omitted the final chapter of the book. He claimed to have only found out about it later on from what I've read. Early US editions were missing the 21st chapter. With the final chapter the book functions as either a christian parable or a morality play. In it Alex has an epiphany of sorts and decides (of his own free will of course) to leave his life filled with the old ultraviolence and settle down with a family although he knows subsequent generations of course will be worse than he and his droogs were.

So, if you can find a copy you really should read it. Make sure to get one that has all twenty one chapters though and if it has a glossary tear it out. :) It's more fun working it out on your own. You have the advantage as much of the language he uses is at least based on Russian words.

that's the problem I had with that. I do not consider my friend anyone who beats up old men or group-rapes women. Who was your favourite character? (I know all of them are real people.)

Favourite part?

Did you ever think of living on an island before this book?

Could you imagine Thor as your friend?

What's the book on your shelf next to Fatu Hiva?

Would you have gone with him on the Kon-Tiki expedition (you know when they sailed 4,300 miles (8,000 km) by raft from Peru to the Polynesian islands) if he had invited you?

and other questions...

When did you drink Heineken last time?

Do you like crosswords?

Why do people watch TV instead of reading books?

Favourite part? I loved the whole book. Honestly I forget too much to answer this question fairly. I guess I'll have to reread it. :D

Did you ever think of living on an island before this book? Yes, actually I had quite a few times. It would be nice to just escape sometimes.

Could you imagine Thor as your friend?Yeah, I think I could. (sorry, if my answers are a little lame and I can't expand upon them much. It has been awhile since I've read it and I've read alot since then.

What's the book on your shelf next to Fatu Hiva? Fatu Hiva :P

Would you have gone with him on the Kon-Tiki expedition (you know when they sailed 4,300 miles (8,000 km) by raft from Peru to the Polynesian islands) if he had invited you? I can barely swim enough to get myself out of a pool, so I think my answer is yes. Actually, I probably really would without hesitation.

and other questions...

When did you drink Heineken last time? Probably about a month ago.

Do you like crosswords? Yes, I do although I haven't done any in awhile.

Why do people watch TV instead of reading books? Oh, I'm sure there are lots of reasons. Some just don't want to have to think much and TV rarely requires much thought. Tv you can just sit and watch. It requires nothing of you really. A book requires some of your mind and imagination.

Look what I have found on YouTube:
YouTube - Kon-Tiki
You can see and hear Thor Heyerdahl here and even the Kon-Tiki. You can hear his accent as well. It's... incredible! What a strong and beautiful voice.

And here is Fatu Hiva... the way we had never seen before. On a video. If only it was much much longer.

I agree. They've been hell for me to answer honestly.

Gretchen, All of these are difficult for me. I'm not sure how to gauge one thing against another. Maybe I'll give a couple examples on some of them.

What is the cruelest thing you've ever done?

1. Raising my arm to hit my mother, cursing her and telling her I hate her after watching her and some of my brothers treated like shit for the first several years of my life on a daily basis. I don't remember if I actually hit her or not. I don't think I did.Still it's the same. It's the intent.

2. Meeting my father for the first time in about fifteen-twenty years and refusing him forgiveness and still not forgiving him really when he killed himself and really not forgiving him now either. I don't know. I really don't think of him much or often at all. I don't hate him or love him. I don't care.

3. When I received the call that he killed himself I simply said I understand, called work to get my free days off and went into the bar to celebrate his death.

4. I erased an entire messageboard basically because one person pissed me off.

5. Sitting at a bar my best friend had gone to the bathroom. This girl came up and sat in her seat. I politely asked her to move. She was drunk and rather rude. She told me she was sitting there until whenever they got her drink. Then I reached down and snatched the stool from under her and told her ...and now you're not bitch.

Gah... I really could go on and possibly there's equally bad things. I've done my share and then some.

What is the kindest thing you've ever done?

I try to be kind now as much as possible. No particular thing comes to mind though.

What is the cruelest thing ever done to you?

Watching my family suffer through my father and being entirely helpless to do anything. Maybe that was it.

What is the kindest thing ever done for you?

Alot of people have been incredibly kind to me. I could nor would put one before another.

And abusing my mod powers here I'll answer your deleted post. :D

i'm dying of curiosity. did the sig police run off with your zelda map? or did you change your sig while i was away? if you changed it what was it and why did the sig police confiscate it? or is that just your new sig?

No, it was too big.

no. See above.

It was the Zelda map and that's why. ^^^ It wasn't REALLY confiscated. I was just being silly.

It is now.

not to steal the spotlight, but just to elaborate a bit on someone you've mentioned previously...

i only wish y'all coulda gotten to understand Mark better. I've heard the tales of Bob, and how i couldn't even fathom the motherfucker, and I accept that; because no matter what people may say, you honestly can't imagine that which you haven't experienced. It just pisses me off whenever everyone's like, oh you had it made compared to what we went through when not a damn one of you spent even a full year putting up with Mark's ass before bouncing. Y'all can't fathom that sick motherfucker anymore than i can Bob. For real, I held a lot of animosity in over the course of the first roughly 3/4 of my life toward the rest of the fam, Mom included, but not because of why you guys thought. like you and david thought i held it against you all the shit you guys did when i was a kid. i haven't forgotten any of it, but i've forgotten it, y'know? Mom...we know why. But as for you, David, and ESPECIALLY Billy, who was the oldest and most stable, I held in a lot of animosity for a long time because A) I was treated as though I hadn't really suffered, which irked me, because Mark is the reason that at one point i was a fully functioning 100% sociopath, and B) because not a one of you, at any point, made any attempt to interfere or remove me from the situation.

I have long since left those emotions behind, for various reasons, not the least of which is you fucking forgive family, unless they don't act like family. But also because, over the years, I came to understand. We talked about it in Waffle House that one night; how you honestly, at that age, didn't think Mark could possibly equal or even rival Bob for cruelty and how you truly didn't understand what I was suffering, much as you thought then that you did, and how had you known then what you know now, Mark would be dead. which i myself attempted to insure on multitudes of occasions. In Billy's case, I understand as well...he was nowhere near as stable as i pegged him for at that time, struggling with the Susan and Sharon situations and losing his kids, and Tad, and all that shit. David I maybe understand most of all; so completely fucked up that he himself has admitted that back then he just didn't have time for anybody.

All this is simply to expound, however, on one main point...1) Nothing in life becomes anything more or less than what you make it; and I guarantee you, no matter who you are, no matter where you are (although, admittedly, I failed miserably on my one attempt to prove it thus far), no matter what/who you know, if you ever fuck with my family, I don't care why, you better be prepared, because we each have the capacity to be Olympic caliber motherfuckers, having learned from the world's two best, and although I can't speak for the atrocities each of us would commit specifically, I myself would perform such cruelties as have never before been designed.

all this left behind, this is all about you, and even I'm learning new things, so I guess I might as well see what else we can pitch out there...

do you believe that any one experience counts for more than any other, or do they compound equally and exponentially to formulate what we are?

Well, experiences compound to make us who and what we are, but I'm undecided on whether they do so equally. I think not, though.

As for the rest....so everyone has a frame of reference here...Bob was my father and Mark was the guy she got with years later. Now, my question is how do you compare two despicable worthless assholes? I was the first to recognize Mark for being what he was though I had no idea back then he was as bad as he was. If I did...if I had a clue there'd have been no question of you being removed from the situation; in fact it's more likely if I'd have known THEN he'd have probably been removed from the situation...known as life...without regrets. All I knew really was that he was just another drunk asshole I had no use for. Remember I'd been through one already. Would you really have had any of us stay with Mark for a year? Cause (and I'm NOT saying Bob was worse or even suggesting it), but I wouldn't have you spend one fuckin' second with Robert. I understand you had a lousy situation to live with. Hell, we all did, but honestly the best thing you can do is exorcise him from your thoughts completely. There's very little worthwhile information back there little brother.

Hi!

Hmm..I'm not really sure. While probably about half (or more) of what I read is horror no book has really scared me in a very long time. And I prefer to read them alone at night time. Every once in awhile a story will get under my skin and give me the creeps a bit, but I can't remember the scariest.

Do you have a horrifying memory from high school?
(since I told you mine in a PM )

Actually, none that I can think of. Before high school I didn't have many friends and was an easy target for getting picked on. I stayed to myself and wanted nothing to do with the other kids. In high school was when I started to first find people I actually liked a bit. Also I viewed it as an escape from home so it really wasn't so bad.

Hi all,

I want to give Brice some serious props as an old friend. I met Brice on the DT.net "donkey's years ago." Didn't Aunt Talitha say that? :orely:

Anyway Brice was nice enough to hook me up with a gold membership to this fine establishment. This I think was a "pay it forward" of my Gunkslinger Giveaway Program on the DT.net.:couple:

I've been absent from the King "scene" for a year plus, thanks to Brice and Jon and the kindness of this community. I'm back where I belong.

 Thanks for the kind words/thoughts, my friend. Yes, you definitely belong here. :couple: I had wondered if I'd hear from you again after .net. I missed ya'. As for the gold membership I just looked at it as a small way to help a little. You want to be good to the people who are good to you. :) I'm really glad you're back.

Thankee sai.

Here's a piece of Brice Advice for Candice Dionysus regarding creepy old men who invade her personal space, touch her on the arm or shoulder (in that way that is, no doubt, supposed to be sexy but is actually pretty fucking creepy), and do not take NO for an answer when they ask her out (Other girls your age are dating guys my age).

Can: Just stab the dirty old bastards. You'll feel better and they'll feel better. Well, not really, but you'll feel better.

But who cares how they feel? They were all up in Candice's personal space - even touching her.

I can't remember the words exactly because it is always how we both come to a conclusion.
Brice always suggests to do surgical experiments on my ex-co-worker and his bosses.

Generally: Yes, that would be my reaction.

In this case: Let it be known I refused to involve myself in the decision regarding this thread. Personally I'd be just fine if EVERY thread were about me. Okay, really THAT would be a little strange, but I thought this was really sweet of you Woofer and LOVED the thread title that was.

Thankee, Brice. I tend to agree that this thread isn't really appropriate to merge with the staff spotlight thread. Staff spotlight is for finding out about you, not asking advice. :\ But since I am not staff, this is obviously not my decision to make.

It's sad, too, because I was already considering similar threads for the other PTB here. Meh. Story of my motherfucking life.

Hey! Look! Woofer's spiraling into depression again. Everyone run away and make fun behind her back.

Well, we kind of have a thing against self-serving threads (though Brice didn't start it, it IS all about him) and as much as I enjoy Brice advice myself, fair is fair. We've merged others before and so can't leave this one out there.

Overall, this is a Dark Tower site, which is why the "no self-serving threads" rule. :couple:

Now, if Brice wanted to start his OWN site, he might end up being the next Dear Abby.

my own dearest Woofer - it was originally my idea to merge this thread here, and you know bears would never laugh behind wolves' backs! they would only get behind wolves' back to give a big BEARHUG!!!

I'm sorry. :huglove: I really don't mean to do it; the feeling just washes over me. It's seriously a physical sensation as well. We're trying to figure out why it happens and get meds adjusted appropriately.

We think that I don't have PMS after all. but we do think I have PMDD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMDD) - I have every symptom listed in that article. At least I'm finally getting some help for it. It's not as if I have been trying for 33 LONG, PAINFUL YEARS.

Thanks everyone. I see where you're coming from and why it had to be moved. It's just that the wiring between my head and heart is faulty, so sometimes what registers clearly in the head is interpreted in a completely different manner in the heart. I'm thinking about one those sync apps and see if it can sync up my objective knowledge with my subjective feelings.

Just go to Wordpress and start a blog.

Double ditto.

Just be sure to put up a disclaimer. Something like this:

"None of the advice in this blog should be performed by anyone - sane, insane, or somewhere in between - anywhere on or in land, sea, air, outer space, the moon, or any other celestial body, whether discovered or not yet discovered. Should you decide to apply any of this advice to your life situation, Brice will not be held responsible for the outcome. Furthermore, The Powers That Be, will work hard to determine your place on the sanity-insanity line. And you'll owe Brice a royalty fee for carrying out his advice even though you were warned. So, yeah."
