View Full Version : Which games should be made into movies?

Pretty self explanatory.

I have a couple of games/series that I think would make for excellent films.

Castlevania - The films should follow Alucard's story from Symphony of the Night. Alucard is one of the best anti-heros ever, and anything vampires is always cool.

Legacy of Kain - One of the darkest series I've ever played. The games also boast a complex storyline that could probably teach hollywood scripters a thing or two about effective plot twists. Oh yeah, and the main antagonists/protagonists are cool as hell :D

Devil May Cry - No explanation needed. Dante's over the top moves would make for great action movies.

Halo and Gears already so...

FFX
Assassins creed would perhaps make a good'un

Good call-Assassin's Creed would make an excellent film. A green-screen for that rusty-medieval look would be pretty amazing.

they should make a resident evil game that follows the storyline.

I'm not sure if there are any games that SHOULD be made into movies but since it is something that happens I'll agree with some of the others and say that Assassin's Creed would be pretty cool.

I didn't like the April Fool's trailer very much, but I'd like to see a well done Zelda adaptation.

A good Mario Brothers would be cool. I love all the primary colors and otherworldliness of the Mario games, I think it might work as a bright Frank Miller movie.

Knights of the Old Republic

All I can think of off the cuff.

At first I would of shuddered at the idea - but how about a Megaman movie? After seeing what effects nowadays can do for the likes of Iron Man and the Transformers, I don't think it would be that tough to do something similiar for the blue bomber. What do you guys think?

They should make Super Mario Bros. into an animated film and do it right this time!

Ummm, I think that might work. Its just such a long series, I would hope they'd stick to the first two in a movie. Its interesting, everything that I'm picturing in my head would be terrifying.

Alright....maybe a heavy CGI a la Advent Children?

As far as Megaman goes, the X series was still the best. But that may be because of how it plays off the originals. Context, and so on.

I like the idea of a faithful Resident Evil movie, mentioned above. I believe Kojima has stated his involvement in a Metal Gear movie, so there's number one on my list. Hm... I think a better Hitman would be nice. Prince of Persia's already being worked on.

Either ICO or Shadow of the Colossus would be pretty fantastical, especially with the potential for CG we have now. Or maybe a new episode in the series explaining how the Colossi came to be or how the Evil Queen cobbled together her castle... They're both very fairy-tale-esque stories; I can easily see one of any number of independent directors stepping up to bring the film a more dream-like motif.

What about a movie based on the Ninja Gaiden series? There's a lot of archetypal stuff in the games, maybe not such a good idea for a movie.

I never thought about SotC, excellent idea. However, while I have no doubt that we could produce some amazing stuff as far as visuals go, I would be a little worried at how they would approach the main story arc (the games storyline) The game is pretty straight forward, point A to point B, point B to point C etc. There's basically no story other than the minimal amount of cut scenes that we're provided with at certain points of the game. I like your Queen-backround story idea though.

Seriously, Bionic Commando would be a kick ass movie. They could tie it into Duma Key, Edgar with a bionic arm that paints Nazi's with no noses- causing them to die of asphyxiation.

Starcraft could make a good movie. Just enough characters there to make a cast and just enough of a story to build upon. I'd be interested to see who they got to play General Duke and Arcturus Mensk. :)

Commando Joe and his adventures would be an AWESOME movie, glad someone else feels the same way. I love that nintendo game, and when I heard a new one is in production I was like :excited:

I can't wait to play it.

Last I heard they were trying to get Guillermo Del Toro to helm the movie, but he has a lot on his plate right now with the The Hobbit movies. I wonder who the other candidates are?

Does anyone else think that the movie coming out "Death Race" looks like it's a rip off of the Twisted Metal games (minus a sweet tooth adaptation) or is it just me who see's a resembalence?

fernandito
07-31-2008, 02:52 PM
Well actually, Death Race is a remake of the movie of under the same name, and the original came out many years before any of the Twisted Metal installments...so if anything, the games were inspired by the movie.

citiesburnred

The story line to Call of Duty 4 is pretty intense and could almost be taken from today's headlines. I would explain, but I'd have to give spoilers. I was really impressed with this one, enough to go through the singleplayer campaign through 4 difficulty levels.

I would like to see the Jak II and Jak 3 storyline adapted. The first game might be hard to adapt as its primarily a platformer with a fairly basic story, but the second and third games would make good movies.
