View Full Version : Uploading images, and adding a picture to your signature

Signature Pics are limited to 200 pixels high x 500 Pixels wide.

In User CP click edit signature
In the box for option 1 Enter the URL for an Imageshack (or other hosting service) picture in the box.
Click Save Signature
The picture should be visible with a Brown Font Insert Signature Picture next to it
Click Insert Signature Pic
In the text box [*SIGPIC][/*SIGPIC] will appear (Minus the astericks I had to put in here). Click the insert Image icon, delete the HTTP:// and paste in the URL for your hosted pic.
Click OK
The picture now shows up in the Text Box as well
Click Save Signature and all should work.

It's tricky, but when you choose Insert Signature Picture, you still have to enter the URL for the picture (assuming it's hosted).
Looks something like this:
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/7236/screenshotpt1.jpg

Sometimes the sig still doesn't show in a particular thread. In the thread where the signature is missing go to one of your posts.
Choose edit
Go Advanced
Scroll down and select Show your Signature

Hey everyone :D

With an eye toward the future, we have put some serious restrictions on images that can be uploaded to the site. If too many get uploaded over the years we will either have to purge them or buy more space.

I left the option open as a back up but everyone should try to get in the habit of hosting their images. All sorts of places will do it but a couple of good ones are.

www.imageshack.us <--free

www.photobucket.com <--also free but you have to register

The image in my sig is hosted and I made it big to make sure we could accommodate whatever we needed.

The hosting from either site should work perfectly on here.

I believe I have officially figured this out

Its a two step process.

After its hosted you have to...

1. Upload it to your profile (I believe this is so you can choose between them easily.

2. Put the sig tags in the white box in your sig with the URL inbetween.

[*sigpic]http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/6205/maerlynzr1.jpg[*/sigpic]

without the starts of course:thumbsup:

www.tinypic.com is an awesome free image hosting site;
the image code is generated for you when you select the file from a location on your computer;

Hosting is better for a given post too as it will allow the member to control the size.

Matt
01-19-2008, 08:19 AM
Yep, and our site has its very own hosting service for that very reason.

the Gallery is a great thing you guys, all kinds of pics out there from all the members.

You could easily spend the day in there like a museum. You can also leave comments on peoples photos

I can't seem to do what it says at the first post here, that is, save the signature in the URL box for option 1. I know my image is small enough to fit (ie: 200x500 pixels) but it keeps saying "Error: remote file is too large"

Matt

Can you send it to me in a PM IR? I'll have a look at it.

I'm having some trouble too. I made a banner in photoshop that I want to put in my sig, but it's saying it's too large. The original file is 55.1kb, and I can save it smaller but I can only get it down to about 23kb, and it looses the quality of the pic, and that's still over the 2kb limit. The actual size of the pic is only 404 by 151, which is within the restrictions. So my question is, how can I make it small enough that I can add it to my sig without affecting the quality of the picture. Is that even possible?

Matt
02-12-2008, 05:13 PM
PM it to me Heather, I am not sure why its having a problem but I've never been greatly pleased by the process.

I'll get it in there though. :couple:

Randall Flagg

Sometimes the format of the picture makes it a larger file size. You can change the format by "saving as" and convert say a GIf image to a JPEG and it very well be a much smaller file size.

The advantage of JPEG is that it can carry a smaller file size than GIF when used in storing photographs and images with a wide variety of shading.

Here are two images as examples. The first is a GIF and is 2.58 KB. The second is the same image as a Jpeg and is 1.62 KB.

The note says: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 2.0 KB (whichever is smaller).
So it doesn't have to be both, the problem must be somwhere else I think...

Disturbed Angel
05-18-2008, 12:14 PM
Signature Pics are limited to 200 pixels high x 500 Pixles wide.

Argh - has it changed to 500x100, I only read the first post to see what size I was allowed!

Can someone tell me how to add a pic on the left of my post, and how to edit my signature.
Thanks.

To battle SPAM (which I am sure you are not) we had to set a 5 post minimum to use the bells and whistles.

Feel free to go and introduce yourself and stuff like that, you'll be there before you know it.

And this will probably be merged into a thread in The Dogan before too long.

Welcome to the site!

i can help!

are you looking for something like what i have going on?

:eta:

if so.

when adding the image to your signature, it should look like this:

image url here withOUT img tagsthen text goes here.

if you want the text to be justified up against the image, like in mine, just leave it. if you want the text centered, wrap that in the centering tags.

Okay, here you go.

(XFLOAT="left")url of image here(/XLFLOAT)

Replace ( with [ and you're all set. The text will wrap to the image.

If you want, you can change "left" to "right"

Hope that helps. :)
