Hello all,

Mark Geyer (the artist of the S/L edition of The Green Mile) has just put for sale some prints and originals of the illustrations he made for some of King's books.

Here's the link:

I'll admit I really liked the frontispiece for Rose Madder. I don't have $2500, but that would be a great piece to own.

I agree that it is very nice.

Regarding the BAG OF BONES frontispiece: I have looked at my first HC edition of the book published by Scribner and do not see the illustration. Am I just missing it or was it published in another edition...paperback, perhaps?

According to herbertwest this was only in foreign editions. The UK books do not have it either.

Bag of Bones: Editions : Wilhelm Heyne (Germany), Albin Michel (France), H. Aschehoug & Co. (Norway), Egmont Wangel (Denmark)

My girlfriend is going to Germany next month...Does anyone know which is the edition of Bag of Bones that has the illustration?

herbertwest

Wilhelm Heyne (Germany)..
i would say that this is the 1st edition... title is SARA

i think that this is the cover of the 1t german ed:

MrRabbitTrick: i only knew that it was in the french edition, but just before creating the catalog Lilja had a contest and it was part of the question... lol ;-)
you are british... do you know a british ed. which have the frontispiece?

in fact, all the french editions have it (i mean.... at least the 1st ed and pockets... but if the pockets have it i guess that they all have it, would make sense, na?)

Received today:

Mark Geyer's print for The Green Mile. Signed in pencil by him.

A really cool illustration (if not the best of the whole book) that's worth the money!

Hey folks,

I've got a Q&A up with Mark Geyer (the illustrator for the limited edition Green Mile). He's also agreed to take fan questions, for a 2n'd Q&A next month.

If you'd like to take a read and/or submit questions you'd like Mark to answer head on over.

If I see any questions posted on this thread I'll include them as well.

I'm a little surprised, so far no questions here or from my site.... No one's interested in asking Mark anything? Either about his work specifically or perhaps something general that would apply to other illustrators?

Not that I'm trying to badger you guys:doh: Just surprised at the overall response.

Ok, here's one for him.

Who are your favorite artists?

OK, Tomas, sorry for that

Mark:

1) What was your biggest challenge with regard to illustrating The Green Mile?

2) Prior to doing the artwork for the book, a) had you read the story already? b) had you seen the movie starring Tom Hanks and had to contend with images already planted in your mind's eye?

Thanks.

David

Where do you get your ideas?

i wonder if you'd ask it to SK
no, u'd probably ask : can i get some of your DNA?

- For Mark Geyer:
Why did you only make one illustration for Rose Madder & Bag of bones?
How did you decide what to illustrate about those books..
and finally: Why the illustration of Bag of Bones isnt in the american ed?

:-)

Keep going the nice artwork!

Yes. I got it a year or so ago from Mark. It is hanging in my dining room. It makes a nice set with the ROSE MADDER frontispiece. It is rare that I get something that my wife will allow upstairs.

Absolutely stunning! Shows how good matting and framing can turn a piece of art into something that is museum quality.

Wow, that looks amazing. When you walk into a framing store, if I wanted something to look like that, what would I be asking for? Because you have a border around it, then a little white space then the main matting, etc ... and then the frame. They look great together. :)

The "white space" your are seeing is the matt itself where it's been cut (underneath the black and the red matt) the way Bob's framer did the art is a traditional "double matt".

Congrats Bob on another fantastic framing fob, looks wonderful.

For anyone interested, Tomas at skcollector.com sent an email that Mark Geyer is having a sale on remarques for Rose Madder or The Green Mile.

Here's the link: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MarkEdwardGeyer?ref=pr_shop_more

Personally, I prefer it when the artist shows off their range a little more by doing unique remarques, rather than everyone gets the same one (Glenn Chadbourne is a great example of being unique), but it's still cool to get an original sketch on a 1st ed or S/L no matter what.

thecollector
01-10-2012, 08:41 AM
Thanks for posting Bdwyer. You're right the subject matter on some of the remarques would be the same. (The large electric chair for example) but no two chairs would be identical. But with Mark agreeing to temporarily set prices starting at just $60, it's an extremely affordable way for people to get a Remarque into their collection.

If anyone wants to see more examples of Mark's remarques you can find them here http://www.stephenkingcollector.com/galleries/geyer.html

And if there are any questions I'd be happy to answer them, or talk to Mark and get back to you guys.

FWIW I have obtained two Remarques from Mr. Geyer, and a nicer more acomodating artist would be hard to find. He's a great guy and those are GREAT PRICES!!! I speak from experience!!! Again, FWIW

Good Job, Tom!!!

Mark Geyer had asked me to post information regarding his original art for sale

Most of them are from his children's book The Inquisitor's Apprentice . According to Mark:

I am currently illustrating two different middle-grade series for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: The Inquisitor's Apprentice and The Letterford Mysteries, the first of which is called Secrets of Shakespeare's Grave. The Inquisitor's Apprentice was voted by Kirkus Reviews as one of 2011's Best Graphic Novels and Illustrated Chapter Books and only fourteen titles total were given this distinction. That I signed at Books of Wonder in NYC last October and at Comic Con in NYC last October, too. That my Inquisitor Apprentice originals are on sale now on my Etsy site:

If this is not the appropriate place to post, please feel free to move it. Thanks.

Try this thread? Mark has been a great supporter of the Haven Fund in the past. Perhaps the threads should be merged? Not saying that you are not doing well by him at all. Just maybe the exposure is already in place is all.

Bob, many Stately Homes in the UK have thrown open their doors for the 'common people' to be allowed in and view the treasures inside. I would urge you to consider the same. Doesn't have to be everyday - just maybe weekends and holidays... I would gladly buy a ticket to be allowed to wander (and wonder..) around your house!

(You could even sell your own "I have seen Bob's Jewels!" T-shirts!)

Imagine my surprise when I thumbed through my trade edition of Turn Down The Lights and did not find Mark's artwork for "Summer Thunder" anywhere in the book. Mark is currently trying to find out what the heck happened. He is not listed on the copyright/credit page so it looks to have been omitted on purpose. Could be an interesting story to tell when we get an explanation.

With the mating, it is the size of my bathroom mirror!. Apparently they are slightly variying is sizes. Plus the original is so much more vivid and deeper in contrast than the scan. Maybe it's my computer screen that showing the lesser contrast?. I am VERY pleased to have it!.
