Gilead, the baronies, lud, the Calla, Odd's Lane, Blue Heaven.

Jean

Tull? (before or after)

River Crossing? (that's what I would choose if for some reason I couldn't live here)

Jean

I [suggested and] picked River Crossing because for me it's the only place in a world that has moved on where sanity and dignity still existed.

Brice
05-03-2008, 05:13 AM
Sanity is highly overrated my ursine friend.

Jean
05-03-2008, 05:36 AM
depends on what you call "sanity". Lately it has become for many synonymous to non-creative, wingless, and vulgarly materialistic, and it is not. In the context to which I'm referring, sanity is the ability to keep continuity of history and hierarchy of values; in other words, not forget the face of your father, and refrain from hanging your neighbor on the lamppost, however tempting the insanity that calls one to do so might be.

Brice
05-03-2008, 05:37 AM
ah, but sometimes the neighbor is begging to be hung.

if there were more people like you in River Crossing or any other place, no Great Feat of Roland would be necessary. The fabric of existence, including the Beams, would heal by themselves, and Crimson King die from annoyance

I chose the Calla. It seems like closest to home. I would have chosen River Crossing except there were all elderly folks there...or mostly elderly. Id miss having young folks around.

I guess Gilead, it appearing to be more cosmopolitan than the other choices. Everywhere else sounds like it would be too dangerous or too dull.

Letti

Gilead or Calla.

obscurejude
05-03-2008, 10:07 AM
I originally chose the Calla, but if Jean and Linda move to River Crossing, that's where I want to be. Jean, the reasons you stated were very heart warming and spot on.

I chose the Callas for the hot, Rosa type women. :D

Jean

looking back at the posts in this thread, I am once again, with renewed enthusiasm, vote for River Crossing (for the hot, Linda type, women, and sophisticated, obscure-type, interlocutors)

lol, On topic: Talk about Hobson's choice!
just gotta say Gilead. sounds like fun. specially during the war.War is never fun.

I always shake my head when I hear any discussion like this.
'Adventure' is a word for terrible troubles that happened to someone else.I must admit, nevertheless, that apocalypse does have some appeal from one persepctive. I might choose the world of The Stand if it were listed. I would like to live in the Old West, hard and dangerous or not. There's something in man that chafes at the easy life. Still, I'd feel nothing but grief if I were taken to any part of Mid-World.
I guess Gilead, it appearing to be more cosmopolitan than the other choices. Everywhere else sounds like it would be too dangerous or too dull.I don't imagine much dullness anywhere listed. (Except Blue Heaven.) Surely dangerous and unpleasant, though, yar. Gilead included, even without o'Dim. Still, there was some hope remaining there. I'd fight for it, if they had a chance. Also, would have been a better time & place for the Padre to set up his church, I wot.

For my own sake, however, I think it'd be best to go hermit. Live like Brown, or leave Lud for the forest.

Anyway, leaving aside the question of "rather," it's Lud that's easiest for me to imagine. It's a very real place in my heart. I've fought there at times in my dreams.

Let me sleep on this. I'll vote soon.

I choose River Crossing as well. Maybe Jean, Alinda, Obscurejude and I would be neighbors, that would be great.

I always shake my head when I hear any discussion like this.
'Adventure' is a word for terrible troubles that happened to someone else.I must admit, nevertheless, that apocalypse does have some appeal from one persepctive.

the below is from the play (in verse) by Alexander Pushkin, A Feast in the Time of Plague; it's perfect poetry - I'm sorry for my translation in prose, which conveys only the meaning (if anything at all), but I can't help quoting it here:

there's ecstasy in battle, and at the edge of a gloomy abyss, in the middle of a raging ocean, amidst furious waves and turbulent darkness, and in Arabian hurricane, and in the breath of Plague.

Everything that is fraught with destruction holds unspeakable delights for the heart of a mortal, - maybe the pledge of immortality - and happy is he who has known them amidst the turmoil.

So praise be to you, Plague, we're not afraid of the grave, your call will not detract us. We foam our wineglasses, and drink the breath of a roselike maiden - breath, which may be full of plague.

(the play is a tragedy, of course, and the guy from whose monologue that is taken has to face the awful truth very, very soon)

I just couldn't take it.
I hate to break my word, but I can't vote here. Maybe if you added "None of the above."
To all of you in River Crossing, all the best. I'm sure you'd do well -- and do good -- particularly with the likes of Jean to lead you.

However, mine still is the road to the Dark Tower.

I'm undecided. I think I'd like to travel around and visit different areas, but only if I'm in a group. (I don't much like traveling far on my own. Which is ironic since I spend a good deal of time alone. :( )

Oh right, path of the beam. I'd be able to trot along it then wouldn't I?

Heh. I've got that one on DVD.
Me and my silly terminology.

Ok, on a more serious note now....

A really important point which could make or break our quest, nay (neigh?) the very existence of the multiverse itself....

I picked the callas, in the fact that I don't want to be somewhere very out of the way, but I also don't want the hustle and bustle of city life....the callas seemed to me to be a bit like a step down from the suburbs. :D
