Garth Ennis - Battlefields Vol. 3 hardcover. Other than Preacher, Battlefields and War Stories are IMO the best things he's ever done. I mean, sure, I like Just a Pilgrim, 303, the first Crossed arc but you can tell he's really passionate about WWII (and a war buff in general). I didn't even finish The Boys and his recent run on Shadow was pretty bad.

Max Brooks - Extinction Parade. On the fence about it. Writing is rock-solid but characters are completely unlikeable, self-serving and self-important vampires. Great art though and the setting (far east) is really cool too.

Also, Space Trucking Co. omnibus from 2000AD. The book is massive and it'll probably take me a year to finish it.

Yes. Everything Batman New 52 with Scott Snyder at the helm is surefire gold. One of the best writers working in comics these days.

Eh, the novelty will wear off soon. They have to shake the status quo to every now and then to pull in new readers but things will inevitably revert back to their original form. I've seen this happen countless times.

I'm not too emotionally invested in DC characters to care too much but I suppose how I felt about the changes would depend on the motivation for them. If it's to expand the characters and to make their mythos even bigger, I'm all for it. I do find it strange that all at once there is female Thor, black Captain America and Muslim Ms. Marvel. If I was reading those titles, I'd keep reading them but I don't see the changes as something interesting enough to make a new reader pick them up.

Ok, you've got my attention. I think, once I'm all caught up on everything 2000AD (which is a lot, admittedly, including the complete Nemesis and Strontium Dog) and finally get round to finishing off the other Batman collections I've got, I'll make a start on the new Batman run. Death of the Family sounds especially great, I've heard nothing but great things about that one.

Eh, the novelty will wear off soon. They have to shake the status quo to every now and then to pull in new readers but things will inevitably revert back to their original form. I've seen this happen countless times.

This is kind of the main reason why I'm not a heavy DC/Marvel collector, only going for those storylines that everyone raves about. It's also a key reason why 2000AD is the only comic I follow regularly - with a couple of rare exceptions, most of the storylines avoid having any kind of major continuity resets or shakeups. I especially like that characters do age in real time, especially Dredd - like the comic itself, he's 37 years older than when he was first introduced, and it shows. Even more impressive though is after 37 years, co-creator and writer John Wagner not only still writes great stories, but if anything, he's actually gotten better at it, imo. There's a lot of writers or creators out there in general that, after a certain point, lose their touch and run out of ideas when writing particular stories or characters, and yet Wagner has given us so many amazing storylines, especially over the last decade.

Wordpress deleted my blog. I've heard from other people that they're quick to delete a blog without actually investigating if they should or not, but this was really quick. Maybe some writer was salty after a review? I doubt it because I never posted a negative review. My goal was to get people interested in good books, not to make them avoid the books I didn't like.

All I ever posted were comics and book reviews and links to Amazon, something Wordpress actually promotes. I didn't use foul language, I didn't post anything even remotely obscene. I even used my own images, I bought everything I reviewed or borrowed from the library. I really don't get it. The most frustrating part is that writers have actually gotten in touch with me to say they liked the reviews because they were well-written and went deeper than just plot summary.

I'll probably register a new account with BlogSpot and I might buy a domain name. First I need to see if I can salvage any of the reviews I posted on Wordpress. Grrrr. OK, rant done.

Reading: Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn. It has aged well. It still feels as fresh and inventive as it did more than ten years ago when it came out.

Been enjoying this one. Not quite as strong in "the new 52" as Batman so far, but still an enjoyable read. I love that it takes place early in Superman's career while avoiding a complete retelling of the origin story once again. It's also nice that, as powerful as Superman is, some of his powers are more held in check here, including only being able to leap tall buildings instead of flying. Oh, and it's also great to finally see a Superman who's witty and cracks jokes. Let Batman be dark and serious while Superman has some fun, at least. :)

I've rediscovered my love for the good old E.C. Comics, of course the horror titles (Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror, and The Haunt of Fear) but also Crime SuspenStories and Shock SuspenStories. I've bought the first couple of the new hardcovers with forewords by Steven Speilberg, R. L. Stine, and the likes. Unfortunately, none has a foreword by King which would have been fitting.

He's been writing them for decades and I'm just late to the game. I'm too technologically challenged to download stuff off torrents but if I weren't, I'd start with The Incal he did with Moebius. It's out of print and the cheapest collection on eBay is $100+ so don't feel too bad. Check out the Humanoids website, there's a ton of titles he did.

Will report back on Bendis.

Hello, all. New to the forums, and glad to see a comics section. As a 32-year old, I had a falling out with comics from ages 13 to 24 or so. I missed a lot during that "decade", and some amazing series that I'm slowly going back and reading (Sandman, Preacher, 100 Bullets, Hellblazer etc.) I've recently been reading some of the cosmic Marvel stuff, Annihilation/Conquest, Abnett & Lanning's Guardians of the Galaxy, and LOVING these stories. Like others have said, Scott Snyder's Batman is some of the best comics I've ever read. I'm a sucker for Harley Quinn, so I also read her solo title and the New Suicide Squad. And because I'm a sucker for Spidey, so I'm reading Amazing Spider-man/Superior Spider-man, and am looking forward to the Spider-verse event.

Now that they finally re-released Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, I've started that, and that is some amazing story-telling. I've also been reading some of Geoff Johns' Green Lantern and Flash runs, and Garth Ennis' run on Punisher. I actually liked The Boys (and everything Ennis I've ever read), but I know I'm in the minority there, but I'll give anything he writes a chance. Same goes for Bendis, as I feel he is the best Spider-man writer ever. Ultimate Spider-Man and Joss Whedon/John Cassiday's run on Astonishing X-men are what got me back into comics about 10 years ago. Shannon, if you haven't read that 25-issue run of X-men, add it your list. You won't regret it. Also getting ready to dive into Locke & Key, East of West and starting volume 2 of Manhattan Projects and volume 3 of Saga. I'm more of a fan of TPB/GNs than reading month-to-month. And thanks to Lead, I now have to add Disenchanted to that list. Too many goof things to read, not enough hours in a day. Especially in a house with an eight-week old daughter.

Just finished these trades:

Letter 44 (Rendezvous with Rama + political shenanigans) from OniPress. Sweet metallic cover, reflects whichever light you put it under
Nailbiter by Joshua Williamson. I reviewed the first issue already, it only got better after that.
Southern Bastards - Jason Aaron. If you've read his Scalped, you'll know how he can be. Violent and tragic
FBP Vol. 2 - more crazy physics. Great outside-the-box SF story

Singles:

DT #3 - still no Roland. Cool story though but first three issues could've been told comfortably in two.
Men of Wrath #1 by Jason Aaron. Hard as nails.
The Massive - getting more interesting but if this weren't Brian Wood, it would've been bye-bye long time ago
The Unwritten - I keep saying it, this book is giving Sandman a run for his money.

Caught up on all my regular 2000AD progs, and currently, the strip that leaps out most is Stickleback, a series that began not long after I actually started collecting the comic. To anyone who loves steampunk and great villain protagonists, you can't go wrong with this series. The black and white artwork is gorgeous, and Stickleback is a great and colourful character. It's a wonderful mix of all kinds of great mythology and it's exactly the kind of insanity that 2000AD does so well.

Now, I've just finished reading the most recent storyline, and all I can say is: WHAT THE FUCK?!? (In the best way possible.) Because it's just ended on a major twist that only 2000AD could pull off. I'm now eager to re-read the whole series so far again to see how much it had really been built up over the past 7 years.

In the meantime: onto the annual bumper prog! :D

I've read about ten different story arcs of Vampirella from old b/w titles to the "masters" series by Ellis, Morrison, Moore and Millar and I just can't get into those books. Curves = good. Story = corny.

Fernandito, Metabarons are next month. Pre-order it so you can lock in the price. That's stupidly cheap for how big the book is. If the price goes up, Amazon will honor the pre-order $. I'm reading Technopriests (same shared universe) and it's just as intense. It took ten years to come out. Artwork is maniacally detailed and that's not a hyperbole.

Hey have you ever read Planetary?

WeDealInLead
01-06-2015, 11:27 AM
Yep. I have almost all single issues and the deluxe slipcased editions. There was an oversized, slipcased edition of two volumes before the omnibus. I still want the omnibus though, it looks so damn cool. I was really into Ellis up until a few years ago. I used to buy every single variant of singles and if you know Avatar Press at all, there are at least 5 variants for each issue. Then Ellis did me a favour and started phoning in his capes and tights stuff.

I've been discovering a lot of European books lately that go relatively unnoticed in America and if they do get translated, they're on small, specialty publishers. Man, that rabbit hole is deep.

fernandito

Tbh the only Ellis I've read is Planetary, the first 4 volumes of Transmetropolitan, and Iron Man Extremis.

Which other series of his do you recommend I read? Which should I absolutely stay away from?

Also, the ending of Planetary soured me on the series a bit. It was so... anti climatic. Was expecting a lot more. Something in the vein of The Invisibles. Now that was a send off.

Almost everything by him is at the very least very good. I'm not a big fan of huge runs in general so how about some graphic novels collecting 6 or 7 issues? His unofficial trilogy from Avatar is one of my personal favourites: Black Summer, No Hero, Supergod. Stories aren't connected except loosely by theme. Gravel is great too. Make sure to look up the chronological order on Wiki or Amazon, there are a few of these. He also has these super short books, 50 pages max: Crecy, Frankenstein's Womb, Wolfskin. Come to think of it, all these titles are from Avatar.

I just finished the final issue of The Unwritten. I started reading it almost six years ago when #1 came out and there hasn't been a book I looked forward to more each month. It was one of the titles I had to read when there was no one home. Gaiman, Hickman, Ellis, Morrison...I love all those guys but there was something special about The Unwritten. I've even said that this was as good as Gaiman's Sandman and I still stand by it. I think the last book to mess me up this badly was the final issue of Y: The Last Man.

Anyways, I've also read Outcast Vol. 1 by Kirkman. It's pretty good. It's a straight forward exorcism story but with much tighter writing than the last 3 or 4 The Walking Dead trades. And people talk like actual real people instead of giving speeches to each other nonstop.

What volume is The Unwritten ending at? I got up to Vol. 5 but I haven't gotten to the rest, yet.

And I agree, it is a fantastic series. Not sure if I share your sentiment about it being as good as Sandman, but that might change once I'm able to read it from beginning to end in its entirety.

My comic guy swears by Outcast so I'll get around to it at some point.

I'm putting it at the top of my list right now.

Saga is an epic space opera/fantasy comic book series created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples, published monthly by Image Comics. The series is heavily influenced by Star Wars, and based on ideas Vaughan conceived both as a child and as a parent. It depicts two lovers from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their newborn daughter, Hazel, who occasionally narrates the series.

Everything about that summary is exciting to me. :)

Agreed. I've been pushing graphic novels as viable literary devices for a long time now, but unfortunately those of us that feel this way are a vocal minority.

The sad truth is that most people still consider GNs as juvenile. They hear the word comic and automatically think superheroes, BAM! POW! and block out the rest. They don't know of the complexity behind some of these stories. It's a shame, really.

I used to keep mine in boxes, there really aren't many alternatives.

I made this box in wood shop in high school that was about 24" x 36" x 36" and I kept a bunch of single issues in there, it was my favorite thing ever. I don't collect single issues anymore because they just take up so much space and it's a logistical nightmare to keep having to box them up since you can't display them the way you would a trade or hard cover.

I keep my singles in boxes. I do have an idea for better presentation but no room in my apartment. I've thought about buying an Ikea bookcase (model "Billy") and installing wooden drawers in it with comics facing out. I'm pretty sure I'll give up as soon as I actually weigh the effort v. payoff ratio.

Postal 1
East of West 17
American Vampire 6 (second cycle)
Wytches 4
Birthright 5
Cluster 1 (I was drawn to it because the cover looked familiar and yep, my hunch was right. It's James Stokoe who did Orc Stain. Unreal stuff)

The one thing I don't like is that when some mangas get popular their adaptation (anime or movies) sometimes extends the stories with "fillers." It's as if they want to bleed the reader dry of the finances and make as much as they can. I'm fine with that, as long as the filler story is something worth it, but usually it is not.

The best manga of all time, without question to this day, is "Berserk." The artwork rivals none, and the story is dark. It is fantasy horror and one of the best stories I have ever read. However, the creator takes so much time with his art, that the manga started around 1990, and it is still ongoing. The creator's health is in question so the manga may never finish without someone else finishing it. There is a cartoon, but the ending is so abrupt that you will be very pissed how it ends. Your best bet is to find the manga online, read it to date, and then find the 3 movies that were just released about just the first arc. If you like horror, fantasy, violence, amazing storyline, and great characters, then you won't be disappointed.

Berserk 10/10- best manga.....ever. About Guts the dark protagonist against? You have to read it.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 9/10- great storyline and has ended. Has 2 animes for it, but you need to watch the one called Brotherhood as it follows the manga.
Inuyasha 8/10- funny, dark, about a half-breed demon and fighting the main antagonist Nuraku. I loved it and it also has anime and manga is completed.
Attack on Titan 8/10, ongoing, dark, bloody, very unique and about humanity against titans or giant man eating people. Manga is getting too political with dull story, but anime is state of the art.
Bleach 7/10, ongoing manga and coming to an end. Swords, good fight scenes, but like most anime and manga they add stupid childish humor witch annoys.
Naruto 7/10, manga finally ended. Overall above average but same childish humor sometimes added. About ninjas and always clashing clans.
Gantz 8/10- violent unique video game like story about dying and coming back to life with certain point system. Violent! Not sure if manga is still going but anime I think is done and not continuing.
Ubell Blatt 6/10- Think Link from Zelda but rated R with the violence. Manga only and not bad.

There are certain sites to read for free. onemanga might. I simply google whatever I'm looking for and add manga or anime to it. You would be surprised at what you can find online for free or for amazing deals.

Also, "Vampire Hunter D." There are 2 movies. The second is up to date with the anime while the original is really dated because of it's release. However. The story is really good but when you read the manga or short stories nothing happens. D is his name and he is a dunpeal. Spelling off hand I don't know. He is half vampire, half human (I hate that because realistically that is impossible to happen) but he hunts monsters. There is no real ongoing story, just D hunting vampires. Kind of like zombie movies where there are zombies, and no real plot.

I don't think Berserk will ever finish to be honest. The creator comes out with chapters once every 3-6 months these days. I'd take less detail for a finished product. I'm not sure what his financial situation is, but maybe hire a couple of people to help with the artwork to get the ball rolling. There are so many forums of people talking about it never getting completed, and even forgetting that it was still around. I'm not saying blast it out just to finish it, but maybe he needs help to continue such a great story.

It's weird because the anime I like is usually based on horror, monsters, and it being dark. I know the subtitle versions are what is never is never tarnished by Americans (Dragonball Z) but I do like viewing and listening instead of read and trying to pay too much attention. I never got into the robot type anime. Not sure why, and I did try a ton. Especially when I was younger with things like Robotech and Voltron.

Personally, I'm all in on Berserk, Vampire Hunter D, Attack on Titan, Bleach, Naruto Shippuden, Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Cowboy Beebop. I do love the Venture Bros. but it has kind of fallen apart with Brock Sampson not being the murderous nut he used to be :(.

Junji Ito - Uzumaki. Creepy Japanese horror. It's great. I pre-ordered two of his books on the strength of this. I've made a few Oh! and Aaah! sounds while reading it. I'll post a review next week with some choice pictures.

Just finished:

Station 16 by Herman & Yves H. It's a father and son duo of writers. Pretty cool stuff. It's about Russian soldiers who responded to an SOS signal from a supposedly abandoned outpost in the Arctic Circle. The book's like a lost episode of The Twilight Zone.

Tales of an Imperfect Future by Alfonso Font. B/W old school science fiction goodness. Like the title suggests, these stories don't turn out well for the protagonists.

Trees by Warren Ellis. It's not so much about the "trees" as it was about how they affected people. Great story and concept but it feels a little disjointed. I'm still not sure what all the characters have to do with each other.

Caliban by Garth Ennis. All right stuff. 3/5, maybe 3.5/5. This could've worked better as a short story in an Alien anthology. The alien is different, almost everything else is the same. Cool artwork though.

I was glad the story didn't go on forever too. The ending wrapped things up in a satisfying way.

I deleted my blog. I felt pressure to review things I felt weren't that great. I'll start a new one but will switch from 400-500 word reviews to somewhere around 1000 but will post fewer reviews. I'm already expanding and reworking write-ups I was most satisfied with. I just got tired of spending a good chunk of my free time on mediocre anthologies instead of reading and writing about what I wanted.

I'm reading Warren Ellis: The Captured Ghost Interviews by Patrick Meaney. Insider look into the comics industry and what he thinks of his own work. It's free with Amazon Unlimited for Kindle. Also reading The Brass Sun by Ian Edginton.

I read The Incal years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed. I plan on giving it a reread soon, but I am curious as to why everyone seams to swear by it.
On the other hand, I thought Metabarons was fantastic.

I liked both Metabarons and Technopriests more than Incal. Those two are 5/5. Incal is 3.5/5. "Thoroughly unimpressed" seems a little harsh. I reserve those comments for the crapola from the Big Two. Still, to each his own and such.

Just came back from the store. New Alan Moore Nemo and Jodorowsky's Bouncer came out. It's a good thing I'm sick as a dog and have nothing to do today.

I finally trimmed down my pull list. Dropped American Vampire (because at this point, I don't care about anyone anymore), The Dark Tower (terrible, terrible, terrible book. Should've done this three arcs ago)War Stories (by Ennis. I'll get the trade once it's out).

Brian Wood has a new book out but after the very underwhelming Massive and Star Wars runs, I'm not willing to take a chance on him anymore. Too bad, he used to be my go-to.

I've finally discovered two Capes and Tights books I like: Convergence and Futures End.

Nameless (Morrison) and Descender (Lemire) are both great. Wytches (Snyder) is still going strong. I feel if that book was in prose form and published as a novella by a respectable publisher, it would've been at the very least nominated for a Stoker.

Wytches is written by Snyder, and I couldn't agree with you more about his and Capullo's run on Batman. Its simply brilliant. There are specific stories/tpb's that are "better", but as far as on-going team, they are a perfect compliment to each other. Jock does art for Wytches, and again it fits Snyder's writing for that series perfectly. I also just picked up first tpb of Wicked+Divine. Heard its good, and I like the premise, so I'm interested.

I have Wytches in single issues. Extra non-fiction at the end each book is worth it.

Recently I've read Redhand by Kurt Busiek (from Humanoids) and Descender #5.

I tried Wicked + Divine. A seventeen-year-old angsty me would've probably dug it. Maybe. Cool idea but the characters are either despicable or art school wanna-be try-hards. I just find that kind of quirky, immature humor gets old really fast. Instead of making me chuckle I keep wanting to strangle a fictional character because no one ever in the history of the world (or Grant Morrison's Multiverse) talked that way.

I LOVED the story and the art 90-95% of the time, but it can be hard to read here and there. I think it's just Jock's vision/style for this story. At least the first arc anyway. I just grabbed vol 1 of Transmetropolitan, Chew, and East of West. I really want to like American Vampire, I love everything else Scott Snyder has written, but I just don't think the art style fits the story at all. Am I the only ones who has issues like this, on any series?

WeDealInLead
07-15-2015, 09:13 AM
When it comes to comics, for me to fully enjoy them everything has to be just perfect, right down to lettering. That seems to be Jock's style in general and for me it worked in Wytches. It's a dark story so splotchy, vague artwork made it look/feel more ominous. I can totally see why people wouldn't like it though. I've given up on great stories because I couldn't get into the artwork. I've skipped some titles because of the artists attached (Zezelj, Stjepan Sejic, Liefield) and with some I'll force myself to read the story even if I don't like the artwork (recent books by Warren Ellis and Locke and Key by Joe Hill).

I prefer detailed and intricate line work with artwork that's trying to look realistic. That's why someone like Rodriguez on Locke and Key simply doesn't do it for me - his faces are boxy looking with exaggerated features and expressions. Or the art on Chew - I can't get into that book because it's so cartoony. JH Williams III, Jose Juan Ryp and Eddie Campbell are some of my favourites. I really like all the different artists on Sandman and Hellboy because they fit the mood of the story.

killjoy72
07-15-2015, 11:19 AM
I'm the same way. For example, for years I avoided reading Preacher because I simply didn't like Steve Dillon's art. This is also why I haven't read much Morrison or Gaimen. But if the story is there I have found I can forgive the seemingly poor choice of artist quite a bit.
Initially I wasn't crazy over Rodriguez' art on Locke & Key either, but I'm glad a finally gave it a chance. I thought Locke & Key was fantastic, and even grew to appreciate what Gabriel Rodriguez was able to contribute to the title.

DarthMalice777

I totally agree with you WeDealInLead and Killjoy, I just wish I "liked" the art style better, or at list that it fit the story better. Either way I'm going to stick with American Vampire unless I stop liking the story. After all, even being a visual medium, story makes or breaks comics for me anyday. Just got the Deluxe Edition of Manhattan Projects, collects Vol 1&2, and I LOVE it so far. And now you made me want to read Sandman again, damn you!

I just finished Borgias by Jodorowsky & Manara. I'm not going to go into the contents and shocking scenes from the book. Just think about what these two are known for.

Gyo deluxe was a fine horror book too. Incredible artwork. The story was interesting but like everything else by Ito, it got pretty ridiculous as the story progressed. Very creepy vibe. Recommended.

Crossed 100 wrapped up the first arc. I was under the impression that when it was first solicited, the story would be self-contained and written by Alan Moore only. Si Spurrier is taking over with the next issue. I feel a little cheated and will be dropping the book from the pull-list. $4 is a little much for a story that can now go on infinitely, just like Crossed Badlands.

Gave up on The Sleeper three issues in. I just didn't care for Drifter and I've had enough of Ed Brubaker's noir books to last me a lifetime. I read Welcome Back, Frank by Garth Ennis instead. The Punisher got really creative with some of the kills = over the top hilarity.

I've also read two European S.F. comics: Aldebaran Vol. 1 and The City of Shifting Waters. Aldebaran is set on a planet colony after they lost contact with Earth. The story is pretty complex, the creatures are weird and monstrous, and the art is just perfect. Fine line work, great pacing and composition. It's crazy it's just one person doing the writing, drawing and colouring. The City of Shifting Waters is a little lighter in tone; it's pulpy science fiction with time travel, New York City in ruins, bandits, robots with lasers etc. The book is thirty-eight years old but the story and art both hold up well.

I tried Alan Moore's Providence #2 and #3 and put them down right away. He's being weird again and I'm going to have to be in the right mood and with no one home to fully digest this. It's a testament to the strength and quality of his work that his readership both worships him and feels intimidated by his books.

Batman #6 September (1941) i downloaded a shit ton of comics recently and these are all digital. the early issues are written so different than what i'm used to. he's called "The batman' and it's really odd to read it being written that way.

I am also reading the same comic you have mentioned here. Thanks for sharing.

Holy shit.

Funny you say that, I literally ordered The Descender Vol. 1 by Lamire like 20 minutes ago lol.

Sweet Tooth has been on my wish list for some time, too...

Shit. Why'd you have to bring that up? I just looked up The Descender and now I have to add that to my list.

You should check out Sweet Tooth. I blazed through the first 3 tpbs in no time because it's such a cool story.

Warren Ellis - Injection vol. 1. It's much, much better than Trees.

Halfway through The Invisibles omnibus. Only 750 pages to go and there's sooo much text.

Going to wait for 2 or 3 more tradebacks to start Injection.

Don't want to read the first volume and then have to wait months just to read the next.

Are you reading Dark Knight III?

I'll wait until the library gets it. I have to admit that when I found out it wasn't Miller writing it, I lost enthusiasm for it.

I'm about to start The Walking Dead compendium three.

On DK III...
His baby or not, I'm actually kinda glad Miller's involvement is limited on this one. And I'd rather take Kubert over (current) Miller on art as well. Only one issue in, so kinda hard to comment on the story just yet.

Finished Multiversity...phew! It started off pretty heady but after an issue or two, things sort of fell into place. It's a complex book but it's also very fun.

Reading: Akira, Sandman Overture, Samurai Executioner.

My boss gave me a gift card for Amazon and I'm thinking of using it to buy this.

I finally picked up the last issues of Sandman Overture the other day.* Now read. Strange but interesting stuff as usual.

I like the Sandman books. At least those I've read so far. There is a quite major spoiler in this one, incidentally. So be warned if you haven't read all the other books.... like me. As it was a prequel, I figured it wouldn't matter getting these, but there it was. Gaiman obviously assumed that the others had all be read before. I had already read this particular spoiler elsewhere, although I had hoped it would turn out to be incorrect. Never mind. This won't stop me reading the rest. As a wise author once said, it's the journey that matters, not the destination.

I'm wondering now what collections to get. The individual collections for each logical story? The Absolute Editions, which are nice and big and have extra stuff? Or those 2 huge leather bound things? (They don't have the extras, but I'm not too fussed about that... but ... well they would be nice to have.) I don't usualy fork out for the bigger volumes as they strike me as way too much money to spend at once, but as I plan to get them all anyway, at some point, I wonder if it will work out cheaper in the long run.

I also recently bought and read another Gaiman collection, this time his take on an alternate Marvel universe set in 1602 called.... 1602. It was a very interesting reimagining and a good story.

I also continue to buy 2000AD. The bumper Christmas edition was cracking!

I ordered the new Star Wars comic Shattered Empire today. I was hoping it would fill in a bit for The Force Awakens. (Which I've seen. Twice, but that's another subect.)

* Annoyingly the Comic Book guys saved an issue which I found I already have! I could take it back, but I've found that it has a different cover. I'm not one to collect covers but now I HAVE it.. oh why not keep it...

Someone seems to have gotten rid of their collection at my local shop. I cleaned house today; I got four Grant Morrison hardcovers for the price of one.

Reading: Attack on Titan vol. 1. This is great non-stop action.

Hey guys, I have some comics from when I was a boy in perfect shape bagged with card board back... Some nice stuff. Any thoughts on the best way to sell them?

Just finished Walking Dead vol 24. Wow, what an ending. I will say though, that I wasn't too keen on the beginning of vol 22. I didn't like how they jumped ahead a few years. I wish there was an in between vol to transition over. I do find the Whispers intriguing though.

Yep, that ending (and many other scenes) are pretty much unfilmable. Not just because they're violent but because casual fans (non-comics readers) would protest outside the studios. How dare you kill a character you didn't make us loathe first or somebody whose usefulness hasn't run their full course yet!

I'm reading the second Attack on Titan omnibus and having a blast. I'm also re-reading Star Wars comics. Mara Jade was a bad-ass.
