 Its easy, avoid as many requests as you can by saying ridculous things that only a child would believe. For example, whenever I say "Oh no, I can't get you some juice, my arm/leg just fell off!" they always quickly look and check before saying "Awww, Muuum!" and rolling their eyes

Weeeeeelll I get hives around this time of year and hives like to seek out nice warm areas to proliferate. And so I ended up with vulvitis which is even less fun than just having it on some of those areas....

Thank you for your care and concern. After a week and a half it's finally starting to clear up...

I hope all you are feeling better. I just these last two days got good nights sleep. The only in like 3 weeks so I know what some of you are going through... being sick and tired isn't fun..

No, Jean, I had some virus and some sinus infection-type thing. I just don't tend to post much if I am sick. I withdraw into myself. Always been that way. Even as a kid I would just as often run into the woods to cry alone as run to my parents for comfort. *sigh*

I've had a bit of a scratchy and sore throat for a couple days, as well as a general feeling of "blah."

And my neck is really sore and stiff; I think from the angle I was sitting at while watching the 15 inning All-Star Game, but every time I get a bit sick and my neck is sore I'm always paranoid about meningitis.

Jean

So sick...........can't stop coughing. **dies**
from an old cougher to a coughing beginner:

it is necessary to drink all the time, something warm, like milk with butter and honey; also possible to mix into that an egg yolk stirred with sugar. It will alleviate the symptoms to an extent, but won't cure the cough. Nothing will*, in fact, if it has gone too far; however, if you can get some Paracetamol with Codeine (like Codamol, or better Co-Codamol; I always buy it in London but don't know if you have that, too), it would alleviate the symptoms good enough for you to at least get some sleep, or daytime rest (coughing is eshausting). You can look at other codein containing pills (like Solpadein), but the amount of codein is crucial, so read the labels.

*except some herbs. I don't know if it grows there, I am not even sure what I found in the dictionary is correct - coltsfood, or foalfoot - you just brew it for some time (with boiling water), and drink - it's disgusting, but actually helps

Erin
07-21-2008, 11:39 AM
Thanks a ton Jean! I appreciate it! I've been hacking for days, i'm so worn out from the non-stop coughing.

I'm going to the store after work and i'll look into what you posted. Especially the herbs. I'd much prefer to take a natural remedy than a manufactured medicine.

Jean
07-21-2008, 12:02 PM
remembered one more thing - when I was in London two years ago, I had extraordinary coughing session which lasted so long (more than a week) that no usual remedies helped (like Codein; and I couldn't spend time looking for that herb there, either), so I asked in a drugstore what they could offer for a really bad cough. They, of course, offered those pastilles/losenges/candy, which I scorned (you must know by now... it's only for those who make their very first steps in the Realm of Coughing); and then they fished from somewhere a bottle of some shit whose name I unfortunately forgot now... it was some white thick liquid, non-transparent, almost like gel; I'll try my best to remember the active ingredient; the taste was very unpleasant, so it was none of those "cough syrups" which serve only to please the poor patient. I was lugging the bottle with me everywhere, and sipping from time to time, and it really did help - combined with codein and warm drink and those f***ing losenges, true, but without it they wouldn't have helped.

Jean
07-21-2008, 12:08 PM
found it at Boots site (just remembered that I had bought it at Boots) - the ingredient was Glycerol, it tastes incredibly foul, but it helps! the trick is to sip it at regular intervals all during the day

07-21-2008, 12:23 PM
I hate being allergic to propelene Glycol. It is in everything you eat and use. I have to be careful with what I use and sometimes, if I use to much, I break out. really sucks

Erin

Awesome! Thanks Jean. And taste isn't a big deal. As long as it stops this dreaded cough even a little, I can stomach just about anything.

nobody can understand it better than a bear who has been coughing like old mine worker since the age of 14 (for about 15 first years of this practice - in a country where no real medicines were available at all, and for codein you could go to prison.)

Jean
07-21-2008, 12:38 PM
there is an old Russian joke, that goes, "Dostoyevsky died... Shakespeare died... Mozart died... all geniuses died... and I am not feeling too well, either"

I mean, I have to conclude my today's reading of this thread by "and I am definitely coming down with something, too," - which is the sad truth

William50

Cause they're stupid. :<_< No, I have to blame it on my bad posture....or maybe stress? :orely:
Nah..it's posture.

I wish I could. First, they say not to take baths (well, hot baths..which is what I like) while pregnant. And let's face it, with my weak ass cervix, I don't think I should be taking chances.
Plus, I have one of those old bath tubs that doesn't even have a slant at the end. So. if you wanna 'relax' in the tub, it basically consists of laying flat and having your face underwater, OR having your neck all bent up against the back of the tub. (I should get a snorkel tube for baths)
NOT soothing in my book.

mia/susannah
07-21-2008, 12:55 PM
I took hot baths throughout all my pregnancies. Did not know you were not supposed to. But if you have a weak cervix that may not be the best idea. Sorry about that.

I actually think I figured out why my shoulders hurt. Because it's mainly my left shoulder. See, I'm trying to get in the habit of sleeping on my left side (cause they say it's best for the baby) So, I guess I'm laying on my shoulder in an awkward way.
This baby better be thankful **shakes fist..(just kidding)

How would sleeping on one side more help the baby? :scared:

The main vein from the torso to the legs runs down the right side of your body, when you lie on your right side, the uterus could compress it and cut off the blood flow to your legs...not a good thing, IMHO!

So, preggo peeps must try to sleep on their left.

Here everyone takes oscillococcinum. It's something something made of the liver and something of something something duck; small white pills in capsules. My students made me take it when I was coming down with flu last two times, and the miracle is that it actually helped both times; I bought it later and fed it to my wife when she suffered flu symptoms, and it helped her; thus I believe I can recommend it. It is not made in Russa, so I think it should be available.
