2023 Dark Tower Football Pick Contest - Come Reap

As with last year, picking a win/loss is still the game, awarding 10 points for each win. Get in the game early so you can feel your way around before the group locks on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7!

How to Play

1. It’s simple. Click on the following link and it should take you to the ESPN pigskin pick'em site. If you don’t have an ESPN profile, you will have to set one up.

ESPN will initially name your entry for you, but you can change that entry name to better identify with your name here once the entry has been created (look for the blue gear cog).

If you have questions about how to set things up in our group, post your questions and the community of folks here will try and help you out.

2. The contest will begin with the first regular season game in Week 1. Only one entry per person in our group and it must be identifiable to me as a member on this board or you can PM me with your ESPN handle. Once the season has started the group is locked. This means that any latecomers will not be able to join (sorry about that!), so please get in early. Picks for week 1 can actually be made now!

3. This contest will end at the conclusion of the ESPN Pick'em season.

4. At the end of the pick'em season, whoever has the best record wins the coveted First Place trophy. We also award trophies for Second, Third, and a (much sought after, one of a kind, not available in any other contest) Last Place Trophy**

**In order to qualify for last place, you need to pick every week, or suffer a penalty for any game(s) not picked. To be safe, be sure to get IN THE GAME each week and make your picks early!!!!

Ugh, I finally stopped being a homer and picked against the Bengals last 2 weeks without Burrow. Didn't see that Browning performance coming. Was going to pick against them rest of the way, but now have to think about it.

I was confused by this for awhile. If you were on the East coast (or even Central time zone), that would mean you missed all the games on Sunday.

Well, my team didn't make the playoffs, so I am rooting for the teams that have never won a SB, so rooting for Lions, Bills, Texans in that order.


What about you? Anybody rooting for a team they are not a fan of (primarily).

I'll watch every game possible of "my team" during the regular season no matter how much they suck. I'm a CUBS fan, and they have had some really really bad seasons. But I still pay for the MLB pass to stream all the games. Prior to that, I'd watch them on the WGN cable every day possible.

However, once the playoffs start (any sport) and my team is not in it? The sport is dead to me for the duration of the playoffs. My NFL team is the Cowboys. So I have no interest in the remaining NFL playoffs this year. I have no urge to watch anything further, including the Superbowl. I guess if I had a sentimental reason, like rooting for Joe Burrow (LSU!) at Cincinnati, and they were in it, I might watch. But ask me who won the Superbowl last year? Kansas City? Just a guess. The World Series? I'd have to look it up. It wasn;t the Cubs, so no idea.

We usually find a reason to root for (or against) a team in the playoffs. The Super Bowl is always about the food, drink, and commercials. Sometimes the halftime show. And yes, "sometimes" it's about the game, lol.

My memory sucks, so if I almost always have to google last year's winner in any sport.
