I have been touted as a cure for some blight
By my name; you'd think I was a way to make a messy oven and ruin SpriteŽ

But that last line is a bit misleading. Your Riddlemaster wouldn't do that.
Some say I'm a cure for cancer; but keep that under your tin foil hat

Useful to the Calvins am I
Chemists know I go both ways-YUP. I'm bi

I removed the U from Oppenheimer's underwear
and am a protester's remedy for chemical warfare

On that American holiday; see me make little black snakes flow
I admit it. I help Moffett fill your nose with blow

Saltpeter?

Actually, I think I'll join you for lunch.

Baking Soda, I just can't figure out the Calvin, Oppenheimer, Moffett references.

But it goes with organic gardening, oven, medicinal, the 'bi' reference, neutralizing chemicals, making homemade black snakes.

By the way it's 12:42 ET, I just woke up with this on my mind. Thanks Jon.

You say true!
A black goose for you.

The Bi reference was that it can be used to make a substance alkaline or acidic.

The Calvins can use NaHCO3 to absorb musty odors from books and it was used in the Manhattan project when laundering clothes as it removes U oxides from the clothes as U oxides bind VERY well with cotton. Moffit's Solution is used in nasal and other ENT surgeries. It consists of Adrenaline, cocaine and NaHCO3 which serves to make it so the solution doesn't burn too much.
The oven reference is...well try baking a can of soda in your oven. I did...just for this riddle!! I suspect I had too much Moffett's solution.

I thought the bi was for bicarbonate, but this makes sense when the vinegar and baking soda reaction give you carbonic acid and sodium acetate.

So the Calvin's are book collector's, I was puzzling Calvin Tower but I couldn't make that fit.

I figured out Robert 'da Bomb' Oppenheimer, but I didn't connect U with Uranium. I kept playing around with underwear (saw that in a porno once!). You gotta love misdirection.

Nicely done Jon.

Yeah. I hesitated and almost put "boxers" instead of underwear but I was feeling kind of mean that night.
