Wow, come to think of it that's a pretty decent sized collection I built myself. I've even got movies that I have no clue went, just disappeared:

We Were Soldiers, Falling Down, Freddy Got Fingered, The Night Flier, The Abyss, Stay, The Grudge and probably close to a dozen more.

This thread we will also discuss the DVD's etc. How many people buy DVD's on release days? I've only gotten three movies on release day; The Descent, Borat and Batman Begins.

When I buy DVD's I always go to the group sales. Usually the stores at my mall have 2 for 20 or 2 for 30. my best DVD deals were: X-2, From Hell and 28 Days Later for 30 bucks and Platoon, Raging Bull, Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Jacob's Ladder and Dark City for 36 dollars...you can't find a better deal than that anywhere. I also got Jurassic park boxset which looks like the big gate from the first movie.

And I've got the gas can/matchpack version of Reservoir Dogs

LOL, you should see my friends collection. He's got about 500 DVDs, plus complete series of: Fraiser, Friends, Seinfeld, 24, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Prison Break

I'll have to take a picture of his collection with my cell phone when I go over there.

Only real DVD's you bought count in this. As an aspiring filmmaker I'm against film piracy. Box Office revenues wouldn't be so bad and there wouldn't be as many shitty movies. If burned DVD's count then my brother would have over 2,000 lol. He gets movies online for cheap, they mail it to him and he burns it and sends it back. I sure hope you are supporting the market too or I might have to terminate you :shoot:

It's fun to see what kinds of movies people buy. I'm pretty picky about the movies I buy, and usually stay away from it if I know I won't watch it more than once.

Does anybody buy there dvds used? I find a lot of good deals at flee markets and stuff. Usually the movies have only been watched once.

Man, by comparison to all of yours, my DVD collection sucks. Then again, I only buy those that I really like. For example:

Star Wars trilogy
Lord of The Ring trilogy
Indiana Jones trilogy
Serenity and Firefly: The Complete Series
X-Men trilogy
Spider-Man
Braveheart
Groundhog Day
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Fifth Element
Lost, all three seasons

I have a few others but they were bought for me and thus do not fall under "movies I really like."

Also, my wife has:

Shrek, one and two
Finding Nemo
Monsters, Inc.
Labyrinth
The Dark Crystal
A Christmas Story
You, Me and Dupree
Envy
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Office Space

Well, another disappointing DVD release.

No Country For Old Men was a great movie, but the DVD is barley bare bones. I'm sure in a few months they will release another DVD and give it the royal treatment, once again screwing over all of the suckers (me) who bought the original version.

This is a disturbing trend.

Do you mean it sucks because it's not an extended version or it sucks because it doesn't have special features.

Movie > special features. Every time I watch some special features I'm like 'I wish I didn't watch that' so I often never do. I think it was the Appenixes on Fellowship of the Ring that ended special features for me.

Still Servant
03-14-2008, 01:45 PM
I just love special features. All I'm asking for is a few deleted scenes, a making of featurette and maybe a few trailers. I also really like gag reels, but you rarely see them.

It's funny you mentioned Lord of the Rings, because I watched every last drop of those special features. I don't expect most movies to do what they did though.

I think I saw you mention before Mattrick that you are an aspiring film maker.
Well, I know I personally find a lot of the special features on DVDs to be very informative.

In fact, I think I've learned more about how to make a film from watching special features than I have in classes.

Don't worry Maer, mine is quite unimpressive too, but I don't have many opportunities to sit and watch films in peace with my kids, so I stopped collecting them and put my finances into books and music instead.

Speaking of movies...

I am an Indie Film maker currently residing in Tampa Florida.
I recently received permission from Mr. King to adapt his short story Cain Rose Up from his collection Skeleton Crew. Under the dollar baby deal, I am unable to seek traditional investment as this is a non-profit project. So I am here to ask for your help in making this a reality! Every dollar counts as I am trying to raise quite a bit of cash, but there are oppurtunities for those who donate to receive screen credit, and become part of Stephen King Dollar Baby history.

For more info, or to just check out the teaser trailer, cehck out the new site dedicated to the project:

I appreciate all of your support, and I am dedicated to producing a short film that is faithful to Mr. Kings work.

Not speaking as staff, but only as an individual...

I gotta' ask, do you realize 9 of your 11 posts have essentially been advertising your film and soliciting donations. Why not start a thread in one of the offtopic areas and use it to update as you have new information to share. Or even make an effort to get to know people here...maybe people will want to help. I mean I'm not attacking you and I don't mean it rude or anything, but you said you didn't mean to spam the boards in one of your other posts, but when the majority of your posts are about the same thing...alll over the site...well, isn't that spamming?
