So what does everyone think the print run will be for the S/L edition? Joyland was 724.

Around the same, more than 724, fewer?

Remember someone on here sent me a message saying Joyland was selling, and bagged me a copy. Pure luck I saw the message as was on the high street at the time. Stood on the street ordering away.

I don’t know but I’ll definitely share when I do. The pal of mine is friends with the publisher and I couldn’t say a word about it till today. I asked him to find out those details:)

Triple this. Do what Suntup does - Joyland buyers get a limited window to reserve a copy, and then it goes up for general purchase.

Lol the realistic chances of this are less than 1%. Joyland came out, what, 7 years ago?

The could ask for visual proof that you still have a copy of Joyland. But that's probably still more than they plan on doing.

They would have no incentive to do that : why bothering and bringing this hassle to themselves?

Wow, guess "Pre-order links will be live on this page at 4pm GMT/11am ET/8am PT on Wednesday, 18 November 2020" on the order page specifically provided by their and HCC's Twitter announcement wasn't as clear of instructions as I'd thought. I got skunked on this one.

I'm in the same boat. I'd ordered from them before so had an account - and luckily I remembered my password and they had my current address stored, so I was able to place an order. I was able to place an order and also received the same "Postage: TBC" info, so I'm hoping that doesn't become a problem. I think I've had that with their orders before, so keeping my fingers crossed, too.

The lines with the store names were there yesterday when I first saw the post. They weren't active links at all yesterday (I checked a few times throughout the day hoping to get lucky). I googled the stores to get to their websites. I searched for the book on the US store - nothing showed up last night but this morning it did right at 10am CST- the unsigned was available to order but the limited wasn't. I ordered an unsigned to be sure I got at least one. The limited was active a bit later.

Congratulations to all who snagged a copy of whichever one you were after! I didn't even bother to try thus freeing up a little internet for those who really wanted it.
Quick question as I do want all firsts, will the PB be considered the true first edition or the hardcover unsigned limited? I'm guessing that's considered a gift edition?

mae
11-18-2020, 09:17 AM
Personally, I do not see paperbacks as collectible or worthy of having on my bookshelves so for me it's always been the first hardcover edition. For instance, I bought and read The Green Mile chapbooks as they came out, but I only have the collected Scribner hardcover on my bookshelves.

I order from FP all of the time - they get a ton of signed graphic novels and signed books - that no one else gets.

BTW be prepared to keep track of emails - when it is in stock or close to ship you'll get an email to confirm the shipping quote - they'll send that separately. Oh and it will be on the higher end of other UK sites that ships to the US (trust me) but you need to reply to proceed, otherwise they will cancel after I think 5 to 7 days. So whomever bought from FP you might wanna post when someone gets this email so we are all on the lookout - especially if it might go into SPAM folder.

Why is ordering a SK limited edition almost always a clusterfuck?

Certainly seems that way, doesn't it? It would've taken so little foresight and effort to make clear how to order the books...and yet, it didn't happen. On the contrary, their page heading that indicated that that Titan Books page was the ordering page was more than misleading, it was incorrect (unless one apparently read between the lines for the correct order venue).

I was lucky on the first two clusters (11/22/63 and JOYLAND), but my luck ran out on this one. I certainly don't mind if I lose out due to being slow on the mouse-click or any other factor inherent in the collecting game with a competition for a limited number of copies with high demand...but, Christ, when I'm hovering at the computer at 8 in the morning, ready to go, ready to play, and I suddenly find the rules of the game have been changed, the location of the match changed without notice, it's incredibly frustrating, disappointing, and maybe even a bit maddening.

<--- EDIT: On a positive note, my post count is ready to click over to 1000, so I guess that's something to smile about, to try and drown my sorrows about this morning's cluster. I guess.<_<

The collecting saga may be better than the book. And I continue to be amazed at the amount of disposable income. Imagine a book priced at that amount being considered affordable and sold out in minutes. They would shake their heads at that in many places and question our sanity. It makes me wonder what is the high water mark on these books? Would the numbered have sold out at $1K per book or more?

These are fairly cheap by the standards of most publishers. The lettered price is less than what a numbered edition for King would be elsewhere.

It would still sell out at $1k per copy, though perhaps not as shockingly quickly as it did.

$1k per copy would have just made it more "exclusive", which would have still made it desirable to the hardcore collectors.

I don't think that's the overall value. I think it's mostly been an ebay thing. You'll likely find it much cheaper in other places.

I know John's collection will have an IT gift edition posted on Betts either the next batch or the one after that. I assume it'll be priced a lot more reasonable. 500-700 range is probably the overall going rate if you don't count ebay. As Herb mentioned earlier, IT is an exception with gift editions. Out of all the unsigned King gift editions, IT is probably the most valuable unless I'm forgetting one.

Now I was able to get an order in and confirmation, but I didn't get the email, WTF?????

Edit: So after seeing these posts I went back and took a look at my order confirm. Then I went into my account at, Forbidden Plant and checked the status of my order. In the upper left hand corner there was a "Update" link and when I clicked it took me to a "Change delivery" page that had spaces to provide a UK address for the book to be delivered to instead of the USA.

Seems to me that they are encouraging us folks who ordered a copy from the States to have the book shipped to a local contact instead of internationally. I have :My Man in England" already and am making the proper changes to have my copy shipped to him and have him turn it around to me. means paying twice for the S/H, but I'm cool with that.

So, all you "Americans" and "Canadians" out there who secured an order may want to look into doing something similar if you can. Just a thought and an insight I figured I share with my DT friends.

"We are not canceling any items at the moment. We will let you know about any changes in this matter but we hope to resume shipping as soon as possible.

Hope this helps!"

So fingers crossed I don't have to do any shipping relaying from the UK, but I absolutely will sort that out if required.

No Canadian nor American, but from the European continent.
I was told changing the shipping address would not be allowed. In order to submit a new (UK-based) address, I would have to cancel my order and re-order. Which does not work as the book is sold out.

Be on the look out for your shipping charge email - once they quote a cost you need to replay & accept charges. Also FP has always been one of the more expensive shippers:

Dear Customers of Stephen King's Later: Limited Edition,

Thanks for your patience in waiting for your limited edition copy of Later by Stephen King.

We will be issuing shipping quotes for these books by email shortly. Please note you will need to respond to that shipping quote by 13th April 2021 for us to process your order.

Once you approve shipping for this order we'll be charging this for you and shipping this item to you via an international distribution depot as soon as possible. We currently aim to ship these between 14th and 16th April 2021. You will receive a shipping email once this item is on its way to you and a second email with tracking information so that you can trace delivery of your parcel.

Got the shipping cost confirmation email yesterday, replied with my consent and they responded today and charged my card for the shipping amount. Still no shipping details provided as far as tracking numbers, hopefully soon but I don't expect anything until roughly the 15th.

They have now billed me also. If I remember correctly they said shipping would begin on the 14th.

Hunting a trade partner for someone who wants a S/N LE of Joyland and has an extra S/N LE Later to swap...

It'll be interesting to see what the S/L of Later goes for on the secondary market once it's actually been released.

I'm assuming it won't go for the crazy prices when it was going for $1000+

If I was a bettin man... $750-850... more than Joyland and that is over $500 now.

Saw one recently sold on ebay for almost $950. Above my price point at this time. Hoping if a few more sell it comes down a little......we shall see if guess.

A quick note for the lettered owners. Be very very careful opening the traycase. The case is very stiff and the glue is not strong enough to keep it in shape. Extra care should prevent this.

My original case was split at the hinge where it opens and it doesn’t close properly.

I reached out to Titan as soon as I realised it was damaged with no expectations whatsoever, as I understand they generally make the exact amount required, but they sent me, I believe, the very last replacement box they had remaining at the printers.

I received it this morning, from the US....and it had a sealed book in it! My mind was racing! Wtf!

I emailed instantly, to check if it should be sent back, and got a quick reply....open it Dave...

My heart was pounding.

I had my headphones on, and Bloodstream was playing loudly (don’t judge) I opened it and it’s an unsigned copy of the book, which is brilliant as I now have a reading copy too.

I had no expectations whatsoever, but there was a chance it could have been anything, they all are packed the same. It felt a little like a game show, open the box! Drum roll, bloodstream style. Very exciting. Savoured that moment!

What a fun way to start the day.

You know, this has been one of the best book buying experiences I have had, and you can quote me.

My signed/numbered came today. I got my limited (unsigned) last week. This is my first SK signature. Signatures are not my main interest - I love the books.
I am thinking I will probably keep the unsigned one, and maybe trade it for something else that would give me more joy.

I have a question for the experienced book traders. It's still in the shrinkwrap. Would it be better to leave it intact?

Which leads to my next question. Is there any way to know what number it is without opening it? I have looked at all the packaging and can't really tell. There is a big 47 on my despatch note from Forbidden Planet but that might just be the form number. Any hints?

Remove the shrink wrap. There has been at least one documented book that was missing the signature.

The inner box has a long number printed on it. There is a 1-3 digit number printed below this, which should be your number.
