A gift edition of IT was just sold via auction on eBay for $265. I'm not shocked, but a little surprised. It is a fantastic book and the first limited edition I ever bought. I wish I had purchased a few extras.

I was surprised as well. Some of the bidding looked a little fishy to me.

It is bogus. That seller, russdj, was one of those guys who show up every now and then and buy everything in sight for a few months or, at most, a year or two. You know the kind of guy I am talking about. They soon lose interest and start selling everything. We could see that he was buying more than a few forgeries with his indiscriminate buying. It is bogus. That seller, russdj, was one of those guys who show up every now and then and buy everything in sight for a few months or, at most, a year or two. You know the kind of guy I am talking about. They soon lose interest and start selling everything. We could see that he was buying more than a few forgeries with his indiscriminate buying. This was about 10 years ago, I guess. He has sold a bunch of stuff over the past few years, some legit, some not. It looks like he still has some bogus signatures in his possession. Stay away from this one.

The "reason" was that DMG sold most all of the books to mainstream booksellers, and a 40K print run is very small in that regard. People bought, read and tossed them.
There was a bit of bid "hysteria" years back and the book was $150+. Those days are gone.

Not sure what the reserve is. Too bad it doesn't play, otherwise the $150 BIN probably would have been utilized.
I never had one, so I'm not sure how the music played. My guess is similar to musical greeting cards. They have a very small battery that can be replaced, often requiring a steady soldering hand. Not sure about the ease of accessibility.

The book was announced but King had it stopped after Nebel (The Mist)and rather then scrap the whole project they made the portfolio since they already had the art work.

It's pretty scarce but I've seen three or four change hands the past couple of years so it's not super scarce. The one on eBay is much more common and I would say that $60 is okayish (maybe a little high, but okay).

The King sig is legit. The seller is the owner of Glimmer Graphics, the original maker of the portfolio. What he is selling (and what most of us here purchased from him a couple years ago) is in fact over runs that never made it to Phil. No need to number them because they don't have a portfolio to go with. But, if it makes you feel better, I know him and can PM you his private contact info to get the scoop direct from him.
