American Gangster is criminally underrated.

I voted for Grindhouse, although Planet Terror is by far the superior film in that tandem.

Eastern Promises is a great thriller by Cronenberg.

I'm not surprised by Fish Tank. It's a really small film that not a lot of people have seen.

I like the directors cut of American Gangster. It adds a bit more but some is repetitive so I see why it was cut. But it's a fantastic movie Along with Eastern Promises. Another outstanding movie.

The Village being tied for first kinda flies in the face of conventional wisdom that this is a bad and hated movie. I never understood the hate for it.

I never got why the elders spoke the way they did. The children born there wouldn't know if they were speaking modern English or 1800's English so why bother changing the way they spoke if only to trick the audience?

This is just a guess, but perhaps it was an affectation resulting from the nature ("back to the old ways") of what they were attempting to do.

I guess, I dunno, it still seems like it was done only to fool the audience to me. I mean there never was a time without violence especially in America in the 1800s. There's just something about it that has never sat well with me. Mainly because it would be work for the elders to not accidentally slip back into modern speech. I mean what if some of the elders talked in their sleep or went senile and starting shouting and swearing in modern American English. Thinking too much about it I suppose. But it does nag me.

The ideas were good, but the execution was not. The Village was M. Night at his worst.

No way, that would be The Happening.

I really enjoyed The Village, up until the end, which I thought was horrible. I still voted for it though since I enjoyed 95% of it.

It's a big "Fuck You" to whomever sent Webstar that reputation.

Oh yeah, definitely agree about The Happening. I remember being a little disappointed in Lady in the Water, too, but it had parts I liked.

If anyone is a Rifftrax fan, I highly recommend their Riff for The Happening because it is hysterical.

A Tarantino film in danger of being knocked out in the first round?

A Tarantino film in danger of being knocked out in the first round?

It's not that suprising to me. I was always under the impression that with Grindhouse most people didn't like one of the two movies, which tends to skew the opinion of the whole. Personally I've never got around to seeing it, it just didn't look that interesting.

I wish we coulda separated Planet Terror and Grindhouse tbh.

Planet Terror is more fun. I know that in Grindhouse there were scenes that were left out of Death Proof but added to it's singular release but were there extra scenes for Planet Terror?

I loved the experience of Grindhouse in the theater. I wish they would do another one. As for it not fairing well, it's actually gotten more votes than I expected since it took forever for it to get seconded.

That was a really fun night! I loved the trailers in between, which actually spawned the Machete franchise.
