Is there something, on the website, that automatically resize some pictures?
Because those I posted in this thread
>>> http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?6425-Bookcases&p=913293&viewfull=1#post913293
are bigger than those I saw, at real size, on my computer. Also, sometimes some pictures are turned and I dont understand why/how

The server that stores the picture stores it at its original size and aspect. The website that links to the picture will ofter resize the picture or turn it for display in a browser. If the original wasn't actually resized or turned (just presented that way by the browser) then copying that picture will result in a different size or aspect than expected (that of the original).

You would have to download the image to your computer or to an image website to manipulate the picture, and then upload or link to it in order to control the process.

*************

ps. This site will also reduce an overlarge image file.

Thanks Brian for the reply.
I do host those pictures on my own webserver.
I did first resize pictures before publishing it and one was on the side. I then resized it (something like 80%, same ratio) and then it was on the right side. TO be honnest, it's still not clear to me as for when it is turned and when it is not turned.
And after resizing them, they are shown larger and higher than they actually are.

Also : why the fuck is the forum in an ugly pink theme? Where do I change that??

What causes it to post someone's text in a vertical line when they are quoted? Its doesn't happen in all the quotes but having to scroll all rhe wat down on one of those posts is a pain in the butt. Especially when you are on a phone.

I would guess it happens when you have numerous posts (within other posts) quoted in a single post on a small screen. There's only so much space.

Each year about this time I change the light bulb atop the tower that keep planes from hitting it whether the old bulb has burned out or not. This ensures
a fresh bulb atop the tower at all times. This year, after I climbed out and unscrewed the old bulb, the alarm rang on my watch alerting me that it was lunch time. I HAD to climb back down and have lunch...union rules you know. So with a 25 minute climb back down, then an hour for lunch then a 30 minute climb back up...2 minutes to replace the bulb; the tower was dark for nearly two hours.

We regret any inconvenience or mid air collisions this may have caused.

How do I use the iTrader? No matter which option I choose from the dropdown it only shows me 14 people; how do you search everyone? I expected to see the list just like on Private Messages where it gives you hits after a few letters. I only just wanted to leave a seller some good feedback.

It's a bit quirky. Find the seller and look for a recent post. Once at their post, click on the Feedback score underneath their member name, avatar. The at the right side of screen id the leave feedback option.
Or....
use the search field to find the member, then click on the feedback score and follow the previous instructions.

If you look at the information in the left panel of every post there is a "Feedback Score:" with a number. If you click the number it takes you to that person's iTrader page. The panel on the top right will say "Submit Feedback For George at C-Springs (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/itrader_feedback.php?u=9719)" or whatever user you click on. You can then submit your report.

This has been happening for a while. I use GreyFolio Black. I use Firefox (the latest update).

Occasionally, when I go to Calvin's Corner, some of the symbols of the sub-forums are green, although no new information has been posted. Also, when new information is posted, the symbol can be either green or red. Is this a glitch in the system or in Firefox?

Just curious, there are lots of posts that have pictures that I cant see. It seems mostly from a few members. Also, I think the issue only occurs when using my work computer (regardless of working locally, or vpn'd from home). All I see is a large white space, no frame or anything indicating that there is a broken link or anthing that indicates that something is missing.

An example would be post 10026 in the "Stephen King Collecting Questions" in Calvins Corner. This seems to be very common with posts from Needfulthings.

I'm guessing it is some kind of firewall issue, but what is unique about his posts that is different then most others?

Bruce (Needfulthings) uses Imageshack to host his pictures. It would be interesting to see if the other members images that you cannot see are also hosted on imageshack.
It's likely that your corporate network is blocking access to Imageshacks servers (and potentially other similar image hosting sites)

As an aside, all images in the Catalog have been moved and are now hosted on the site itself, so you should have no problems seeing those.

If it's a firewall blocking imageshack then you shouldn't be able to follow the link either.

If you can see it then it's probably network settings, browser settings or a plug-in.

I also use Firefox and have no problem seeing the images.

Please show your support for the site as much as you responsibly and financially are able to, folks!!!

We all enjoy this site as a community with all that it offers socially, as an information source, and a way to conduct member to member transactions ofr our beloved books & memorabilia. If we all kick in what we can, $3,000 is a mere drop in the bucket and a small price to pay for this wonderful venue!!!

One time donations are the best.

If you love the site and come here often, then think of 25 cents a day. That's $91.25 for one year. For some that may be too steep. 10 cents a day is only $36.50.
If the site isn't worth a dime a day to keep ad free, then feel free to not donate.

ditto, I also had issues with repeat donations so have done a 1 time.

I'm not sure if my previous recurring donation had issues or not. I didn't bother to check, but I'm cool with a monthly $10 donation and to be sure I also scheduled a one time check of $25 to go out to, El Jefe. I thoroughly enjoy this site and all it offers. Fortunately, I can afford to show my appreciation in this fashion. I'm in no way suggesting that others match my contributions, but if everyone kicks in what they can afford, $3,000 should be easy to achieve. He's not asking for much as highlighted in the above post, IMHO Especially when we stand to gain so much, am I right?

This is probably not an issue with the site however I will ask anyway. Awhile ago I made a switch to Google Chrome and since then I need to log in to the site every time I come back here. This isn't an issue on other sites with passwords. I did select the box to save my login and it never seems to save. No big deal either way.

When you click the box you are requesting a cookie that will allow the site to recognize you next time without a log in.

Your browser has to be set to allow the cookie. Your other security software must also allow cookies.

You can either figure out what's blocking the cookie and allow it or you can whitelist the site.

BUT!!

Last time I was ready to make several small donations in an attempt to reach $150.00 but the donation button disappeared.

Why doesn't the insert video button work to embed videos? When I paste a Youtube url into it, it comes out like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QIShmtBdto

The correct way is apparently like this:

Br!an

YouTube URLs default to their secure server. This site can't handle that protocol.

In order to make the link work on this site you have to delete the "s" from https:// > http://

So https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QIShmtBdto becomes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QIShmtBdto

I struggle a bit with the SEARCH module.
Let's say for instance that I search, via the Advanced module

search types : posts
keyword : CARRIE
user : jhanic
> Search now.

It brings me to the result page. Here I can see the threads that are related, but how do i access to the exact posts in the thread?

I guess that I could do a search via google :
site:http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/ jhanic carrie
and look at the cache version of the page, but I shouldnt have to.

Did I miss an option or something? I am sure that in the past I was able to see the posts and not the thread, but I cant find it anymore

Did I miss an option or something? I am sure that in the past I was able to see the posts and not the thread, but I cant find it anymore

I think something did change.

Click the tab at the top of the frame that says "Search Single Content Type". Scroll down to the bottom of the frame you will find "Show Results as" Select "Posts" instead of "Threads". It will return individual posts now. Now click the "Go" button next to Save Search Preferences. Now when you use the Search Single Content Type search it will default to Posts.

This doesn't change the way that the regular search or multiple content search functions work.

Viewing on Explorer 8 on work computer....

Well there is your first problem :)
I'll bring up my emulator and see if I see what you are seeing. I have a feeling it is an IE 8 issue since it cannot render HTML 5.

EDIT:
Just tested it out and seems to be a bug through IE 8 and 9. I do not have an emulator for 10 but everything was fine on IE 11 and up. As for changing the skin, in IE8 I get an error that it cannot locate the library and the list does nothing. In IE 9 I get the same error but if I change it still updates. Went to Default skin everything looks normal. Possible workaround is to use Chrome or Mozilla Firefox if possible. If you can't I really hope you like reading everything centered lol.

Second EDIT:
TO make everything appear normal go to Settings > then General Settings on the left side. Scroll down to Miscellaneous options and change the forum skin there to vB4 Default and then click save. Looks like IE8 needs to be told to save it to the cache and reloaded for the skins to take effect.

I see no rhyme nor reason for it and it's not from me changing any settings on my end. I don't sweat it b/c/ I just log in and pull up all my subscribed threads and everything is up to date there. So the subscriptions don't turn off. Just the notifications. Until they turn themselves back on.

I only know of three colors. Green +, Red -, and Grey which means + or - rep was given by someone with fewer than so many post which doesn't count for you or against you.
Never seen blue but I may also just be color blind :)

Where do I change my background color? It's orange on my MacBook, but my iPhone changed to gray a couple hours ago. So I'm hoping I can just reset it.

EDIT: Nevermind. Found it and was able to fix the background.

You are very fortunate.
Most sites have one color only. I support 4 different "skins".
BTW, the graphics were designed for the "orange" skin which is my personal favorite.

Wait, we can change the background color?! Mine has always been yellow. How is this done????????????

EDIT: And found it. I've been looking at this site for 3 years in yellow. Changing it is weird. Of course, now my boyfriend won't automatically know I'm screwing around here since it isn't yellow on my computer anymore...

At the bottom of the screen on the left side you'll see a "drop" menu. Just select your color. I always use the GrayFolio-BLACK--it's easiest on my eyes.

What are the rules regarding positive/negative feedback? I keep on getting the message that I'm not spreading it around enough. How many times or to how many people does it need to be spread to before I can just give someone a little positive rep on the side?

The numbers can be changed, but the current settings are:

Daily Reputation Clicks Limit
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit: 10

Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit: 20

As to reputation points...I have 9 pips but 5 of them are dark green... the last four are lighter.

Is it that the first five cannot be taken or nullified? ... Even i I sleep with the site owner's wife...or his daughter..or his sheep?

My asumption was always that the front page was just and welcome landing page that was considered public therefore it didn't require a Auth request. Once you hit the forum you are looking at things that can require login so it checks for an active session or a remember me checkbox set true.

These are just guesses since I've been working through authentication requests all morning at work.

Just wondering, do those threads on TDT that end up locked typically end up locked because of disuse? Another forum I've frequented used to lock threads basically just when things got ugly; it used to be great fun to check out the "locked threads" section (they had a section devoted to locked threads). Even if a thread was titled something like "toast - pros and cons," if it was in the locked threads area, it made for great reading.

You know, I've rarely seen things get "ugly" around here. (That's not to say it's never happened though  ) I think some threads end up "locked" because they've just not been posted in for a very long time. I think.
