oh good Lord

what is Friday morning for us here? Friday afternoon? You mean, bears might have to stay homeless for the whole Friday afternoon?...

Matt
08-26-2010, 12:29 PM
Not sure I'm going to have to do that Jean but if I did it would be around 4AM EST, not sure what that is where you are.

I really have no idea where to start to tell the truth, I may have to pay someone to fix it...:panic:

Is there a thread containing directions on how to post links, youtube videos and any other fun stuff that will help me share different things with all you fine folks?

Matt
08-27-2010, 01:18 PM
There is one for images but I'm not sure if we have one specifically for videos. We do have an AME (automatic media embedder) so you should be able to copy the raw link and paste it here, it'll create a video window.

Welcome to the site, I hope that helps.

Alright I should be able to figure it out. Thanks Matt.

This really isn't about the site itself, but my "Your Notifications" seems to be stuck on 5, even when I've read them. I'm not sure why the notice won't go away. :orely:

Randall Flagg

I'm not confused, I just offered a tip. I don't recall who, but a staff member had this issue quite some time back. It might have been Daghain.
Hopefully she will chime in and if not solve the problem, she will just tell me I am confused.:P

Does anybody else get this message while using Google Chrome to visit DT.com?

I didn't used to get it, but recently whenever I go to this site I get a message saying that visisting this site could be harmful to my computer.

I'm using Internet Explorer now, but I'd prefer to use Google Chrome.

Thanks Dags I may have to do a little gathering on the site formally but not yet I think. I really appreciate it though.

We're going to try and start up a Classifieds section and hopefully get a small amount of revenue from that.

http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/510/thumbs/GUNSLINGER_face.jpg&client=googlechrome&hl=en-US

I really don't think there's a problem, I just ignored it and came here anyway, but thought I'd put it up in case it needs to be checked out.

So i guess that Jerome will have to deal with this now.. good luck ;-)

The badware problem seems to come from the "software" plugin or whatever it is that is used for putting pictures in the galleries.

Have a look at this link : it gives tips about how to try to fix the problem...
http://www.stopbadware.org/home/security

"StopBadware is here to help. See our tips for cleaning & securing your website. Once your site is clean, you will need to request a review. You can request additional assistance in our online community, BadwareBusters.org."

Matt
10-03-2010, 07:14 AM
Yep. This may be a software upgrade thing but we have tagged it down to somewhere in the Gallery.

And I'm going to stay around and help him solve it. Perhaps I can spend more time on it now. :cowboy:

for some reasons, buttons do not work for me at times. For example, now I can't use any "edit" buttons in this post (like italics or spoiler tags), and if I want to add anything to this text, I will have to type the code. Likewise, I can't edit my posts: the "Edit" button works, but then the "Save" button doesn't click, so it's no use.

I haven't been able to determine what it depends on yet. Sometimes everything works just fine, and then stops.

Is it possible to get a thread un-archived?

I only ask because there is a book series a lot of us on the site are fans of that has gone a looooong time without having published another book. We had a thread on it, which was archived in the Keystone Rose archives. I went to post in it today, because the 6th and final book will be published in March 2011.

Should I just create a new thread or can we un-archive the old one. Thread in question: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=587

I keep having login issues. It logs me in, but it looks like I'm not logged in at all. Then I click on a member action or Register - was going to make a HELPWoofer, haha - and it is fine. Of course when I tried Register, it told me I already existed and then voila! I was in the forums.

Not that I'm trying to be hard to please, but this color is seriously hurting my eyes. Is there an option to change it similar to how King's forum did, or are we pretty much stuck with the one color. It's giving me a migraine, and I may have to stop coming here because of it.

Yes I know, but it doesn't seem to return a list of posts with the search phrase, but a list of threads. I'd like to be able to find stuff buried in 100+ page threads :)

But it's a minor quibble, I don't even use the search function all that often.

***edit***

Now it's back but goes away when I change skins...

Randall Flagg
11-21-2010, 12:00 PM
I see the forum on 2 of the skins-vbulletin default, and Take 5 4.0.8. We'll have Matt look into it.

biomieg
11-22-2010, 02:17 AM
I noticed that links are not underlined by default anymore. I like to replace URLs with text whenever I link to an eBay acution or whatever, but when the link is not underlined it makes it harder for the reader to know that there is part of the text in my message that can be clicked (you only notice that something's a hyperlink when your mouse pointer hovers over it). I know this is not something essential but I think it's more user-friendly if a hyperlink is identified by at least something (i.e., a different colour, underlining).

Randall Flagg
11-22-2010, 07:46 AM
It is not an easy fix. For now, Jean came up with the idea of underlining your hyperlinks. That is the best way to go.

biomieg
11-22-2010, 07:52 AM
Great idea!

Matt
11-22-2010, 10:15 PM
Also I think any skin other than Take Five has links that are a significantly different color than the rest of the text. They are green on the green skin for instance

Girlystevedave
11-23-2010, 03:18 PM
Dumb question:
I'm using the new Black Stealh skin and I really like it, but I can barely see all my info that's listed under my av because of the font color. Is there anyway to change it, or am I pretty much stuck with it since I'm not a mod or manager?

Randall Flagg
11-23-2010, 04:25 PM
We can't change it either (personally). We can try to change it globally, but it is much easier said than done.

Girlystevedave
11-23-2010, 07:53 PM
I gotcha. I figured it was something I had to just accept. It's a price I'm willing to pay to use the black stealh skin anyway.
But hey, no complaints from me.
You guys have done way too much work on here with the recent changes for me to complain over the color of my font. :)

I think Biomieg mentioned it before, but I see there was no follow-up.

When using "Search" there is no option to get the actual posts in the result, only the the entire thread is displayed.
If it's a thread of 200+ post on multiple pages the result is still worthless.

In the previous forum you could choose if the results where posts or threads.

Actually, I found the solution to my own question. If you choose 'advanced search' and then choose 'search single content type', search type = 'posts', and then scroll down and tick 'show results as posts' you get the posts instead of the threads. But it's definitely more complex than it used to be.

Niels
01-14-2011, 02:11 PM
When I had the possibility to tick a checkbox called 'show results as posts', then I wouldn't ask the question.

Maybe I'm becoming legally blind, but I don't see it on my screen.

I know you wouldn't ;) I couldn't find it myself at first, but it's there - you first need to click on the 'Search Single Content Type' tab that you see on the top left in your picture; there are different options there.

Niels
01-14-2011, 02:22 PM
Damn, you're right! Always had the impression it already opened in that tab (for some reaseon) and never bothered to click it.

Now there is the option I'm looking for. Thanks Bio!

I have been having a problem for at least a few days now that the reply and reply with quote buttons click but I just get the working circle and an Error on page note at the bottom left of my screen.

There may be an actual problem that makes this happen because it happens to me a lot. I just double click the button fast and it works for me.

Erin

The exact same thing happens to me all the time. Like bethany, I have to click really fast a bunch of times in a row to get it to work.

What browser are you using, and which style are you viewing the forum in?

Erin
01-19-2011, 09:02 AM
Jerome, it happens to me on my work computer where I use IE8 and it happens at home on my laptop where I use Firefox. I use the default forum setting for both locations.

It will work, but you just have to click about 10 times in a row really fast to make it not just have the "thinking" circle sit there for a long time. This has been going on for me since the update.

Same info as Erin, except I can get to work with a really rapid double click (by-product of working with the most thrown together computer system in the world but that's another gripe)

I've seen number of people ask about that reply and reply with quote button bug on Vbulletin forums with no answers whatsoever from devs. This means that there is most likely no fix for it, as Vbulletin devs tend to just ignore problems that they have no answer for. If it really gets on your nerves, an easier workaround than fast clicking would be to right click it and pick open in new tab. This will likely make it load properly on the first click, though it won't be a streamlined process of having the box on the same page. It will be more akin to old school replying or advanced replying as it stands now. It should at least work, though.

VB4 has a lot of unacknowledged bugs. The devs have limited support to owners these days, too. It seems to me that they are really going down hill.

Certain forums do not add to your post count when you post in them. I can't remember exactly which ones. Your accurate post count is listed below your avatar in your posts. You have 80.

I think both are correct. The 2KB is set in our admin control panel-uploading something larger would result in a error and not post. The 500x200 is our self imposed size limitation on signatures. When members post a signature larger than 500x200 it can and will show, but when noticed, the member is asked to reduce or delete the image.
I can certainly go in and change the file size limitation for an image from 2KB, but what is the best number that doesn't slow page loading, 20KB, 200KB, 2,000KB?

Heather19
03-24-2012, 06:33 PM
I think the 2KB is just if you're uploading from your computer, no? But if you're hosting it offsite like photobucket or something then it doesn't matter how big it is as long as it's within the 500x200. I had that problem when I first joined.

There is a daily, per person cap. A member may provide "x", but a member doesn't "use it or lose it".
I know you are kidding.
Reporting a post alerts staff, but does not disclose the identity of the reporting party to the alleged perpetrator.
Pos and neg rep is a personal member level feedback system.

When you post just click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/icons/radioactive.gif button and put your spoiler in between the tags. It is simpler than the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/icons/spoiler.gif button.

NOT
[SPOIL...

If you use the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/icons/spoiler.gif button then a box pops up and you can enter text about the spoiler. After you enter the text you will still have to place your spoiler between the tags.

The difference is:

When you post just click the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/icons/radioactive.gif button and put your spoiler in between the tags. It is simpler than the http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/images/icons/spoiler.gif button.

OMG THANK YOU Br!an! Finally clarified

Wouldnt be the first time...

it happens when a mod posts from the phone and accidentally clicks on something twice (have no idea how it works, I use my phone to make phonecalls)

I think Patrick is the culprit
Shall I ban him?

When I "make" a spoiler, I just highlight the text, then hit the round spoiler button. Does the same thing.

Thanks gang, I got it. I added one to my collections page about Geek Love - I had tried a couple of different ways.

For some reason, none of the threads that I subscribe to are showing up in my Gmail today. Anyone else having this problem?

No, but the site seems "sluggish" today FWIW

Yeah, same here, the site has been really slow to respond for most of the day thus far :borg:

Someone was flooding the site. I wasn't aware of it until 90 minutes ago.
It should be fine now.

Thanks in advance!

I have a friend who is trying to join the site but every time he registers, it says that he has been banned for life. :wtf:

He's using a Mac and has tried registering with the following browsers: Safari and Chrome. Still no dice.

Again, thanks!

Maybe he is banned for life? I use a Mac and access the site with my Safari browser with no issues. Sorry I can't offer any helpful suggestions but I wish your friend good luck.
