Something hella funky is happening, everyone just got logged off at the same time and its logging me back off at random intervals.

It happened to me two days ago. But then this site has always had little quirks for me.

Da weirdness!

Not your 'net connection?

I'm pretty sure it wasnt. There were 20-25 people logged on one minute, then I clicked 'Unread posts' and I was suddenly logged off, and not a soul was online. Then when I signed back on, there were only 3-4 people on. It was muay strange.

Matt

It may have a rolling brown out occasionally. It is part of a shared server hosted by HostRocket.

So I wouldn't be surprised if it happen, I'm here all the time and have only seen it a few times in the last 8 months--not too bad.

Kevin

It wasnt really a problem, eventually it stopped. Just wanted to make the problem aware, but you're already on top of it.

How come it doesn't always post how many posts I've actually typed?

As do I. We should be here for The Dark Tower, am I right? Oh, and for Book Collecting also, of course! :D

I think we may have just had one of those rolling "log off" that is going on for some reason.

I am checking support to find out the cause. Sorry if it caused anyone an inconvenience.

Jon

No real problem. I just thought the acid was kicking in.

Jon

Likely you have answered this before but, what does a "+" beside a member's name in the "online user's list" mean. I have noticed this many times and it seems each time it is a manager or Admin.

these are ones that are on your Buddy List (which, in its turn, is, as far as I know, only a pleasant embellishment without any substance behind it). I deduce I'm on it! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_wink-1.gif http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

But I oft see my "buddys" with such a symbol.

Matt
02-25-2008, 06:02 AM
the buddy system is something on the site that has not been developed. If you make someone your "buddy" its full a UserCP thing and it could be I don't have all the functions turned off.

We are not actually using it at this point.

Jon
02-25-2008, 06:19 AM
I was about to state "Jean you may be right. I have no idea how to use my buddy list therefore I have no idea who is on it."

Question: Is there a way for this to not be default set on "From The Last Week?" I always have to change it to "Beginning" because I like to view all the threads created in Mid-World, not just those that have recent posts. Just curious. :)

I really enjoy playing this game. But every time I get to the second level, it cuts me off. Can anyone tell my why?

Matt
02-25-2008, 04:43 PM
Same thing happens to my wife, it drives her crazy.

The weird part is that plenty of people have got by so I can't imagine it is a game glitch. That and not knowing how its played is a problem.

It seems like it doesn't let you by unless you do it in a certain amount of clicks maybe?

Odetta
02-25-2008, 08:41 PM
you can NOT get to level 2. It ends. Even if you have hints left over. I think it is a glitch if it DOES let you get to round 2.
It can't be number of clicks, because I have finished the board NOT using hints and not making any mistakes.

Jean
02-26-2008, 12:29 AM
definitely so

Jean
02-26-2008, 12:31 AM
same here

Sometimes I get to level 2, for a couple of seconds... like a glimpse of a brave new world... and then it's over http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_sad.gif

I will get to the seconf level, and get a couple of pairs then it just goes off, drives me crazy, makes me want to :pullhair:

Matt
02-26-2008, 07:08 AM
Sorry about that you guys. The arcade is a free modification and the games themselves are third party and totally unsupported. :(

My only real option is to get back out there and research a new one.

I will post the link to where you can download them from and I would love it if one of you wanted to sign up and find a better one that works correctly

I have come to the point where I simnply play this game to see how fast I can clear round 1 - and I have never seen a glimpse of round 2 and have been wondering how in the hell the top scores are what they are!

No, its not. He's having major problems all over the board, including chat and his Message box's. I think his is trying to PM you now.

Matt
03-05-2008, 12:06 PM
I got the PM and replied--but as I have said before if its only one person having the problem it usually means its a local thing.

I will check into it as much as I can but it sounds like it might be browser settings.

Unless the board is twonky for anyone else, its working fine for me.

There it is!

Now, I must admit the site has been reacting a *little* slow today. Hostrocket may be scrubbing our server or something. But as far as I can tell, everything is working well.

Like me in my old age--a tiny bit slow somedays but getting the job done.

I have been having similiar problems as posted above for weeks on the computers at my school. My posts do not show up immediately. I have to refresh once or more after posting to get them to show up. At first I thought this had something to do with it being on the school computer and they're firewall/protection software, but it just happened to me on my laptop, and I havent changed any of my settings at all. I posted, it didnt show up...I refreshed twice and still didnt show up. I found the thread through the forum subdivisions and stuff, finally found it and there was my post. Also on the school computers, any posts made in threads I've already viewed do not show up at first. I have to refresh to get them as well. I'll see one new post, click it and have it be exactly the same as how I left it the last time until I refresh. Again, I chalked this up to being on a shitty school computer but when I saw other poeple having similiar problems......probably not a coincidence.

Matt
03-07-2008, 05:14 AM
Hmmm...not sure one other person constitutes something wrong with the site.

I would really like to be able to track this down for you Kevin but I am not sure how. If this was something happening on the site, it would be happening to everyone.

The posts not showing up is not something I have ever heard of except on a moderated board. The other problem may simply be settings in your user CP. I would comb through those and make sure they are set the way you want them to start.

Check through your user CP gunslinger and make sure all the settings are to your liking. Some could be off in there.

For me, if I use the quick reply box, my posts show up as soon as I hit "post quick reply"

Are you using the quick reply or the new reply button?

One more question, whats the deal with the thingy under the usernames, for example mine says gunslinger apprentice.

Matt

That is your member title, its set automatically by post count. There are some funny ones in there.

You can use your beam bucks to have it changed to something you want. Or use them to buy a Gold membership then you can change it whenever you like through your UserCP

no, every time our pages don't load I try something else, like google or weather, and it is ok. Maybe nobody else feels that because it happens when people sleep.

Matt

Well, I would hate to think there is that kind of problem with the site Jean, in the middle of our night or not.

Its unacceptable service if you have that much trouble. Would you mind documenting it when it happens so I can get an idea of what we are talking about here. Posts could go in here.

Just a quick..."12pm (your time)...site wouldn't load"

Jean

Matt
03-17-2008, 10:53 AM
There should be an option under the actual picture that says "copy/delete" click on that and you should get an option. Kind of hard to figure out but you put a check mark in the box.

MonteGss
03-17-2008, 06:20 PM
You mean like add events to it and stuff like that Monte?

Nope. I mean like I can add the calendar to my own...like say on iCalendar or Microsoft Outlook or something like that....Google cal.

It is like importing the calendar you have on this site and it will show up on mine too. When you guys add an event to it, it then shows up in mine.

Anyway, just a thought. :)

The site is on a shared server (for now) hosted by HostRocket. They sometimes have to do a database refresh which is what causes the error.

Nice that this happened on my half day

Matt
04-09-2008, 01:10 PM
Well, they had to do a full restart and it booted everyone off, as anyone reading this probably knows. Its one of the reasons I like to wait it out a bit before calling--Hostrocket said there was another user on the server we share that's bogging something down.

They will be suspended if it happens again but, he'll have to work the boot one more time

Thanks for being patient everyone. These things happen out on the net sometimes I'm learning.

Maybe we need to post the answer to this across every single page on the site!

jemaher, post count only updates when you post in on-topic threads. so, games and other such silliness doesn't count. :) only threads about the site, the dark tower, or collecting count towards your post total.

Thank you Monte. Yes, jemaher, posting in Blue Heaven, The Dixie Pig, and Bob Gray's Freaky Games doesn't go towards your post count.

Matt:

Yep, it was decided during development that any of the "off topic" forums and subforums would not record postcount.

We were experiencing a glitch today Matthew, someone on our shared server was hogging the load.

It seems like its chugging along fine now but I appreciate the reports of any outage in this thread.

Dear Customer,

The server you are hosted on, Host94, will be undergoing scheduled maintenance
tomorrow, April 16th. The maintenance will start around 9:00AM EST, and should last
approximately 1 hour. Actual downtime will be minimal. After the maintenance is
complete, your server will have been upgraded to PHP5 and MySQL5.

Any user can create a poll. When you click on "New Thread", after you title and describe your poll question, beneath the messgae box will be an option to select and add a poll, as well as how many questions in the poll. Once you select and determine the number of questions, you submit the thread and then the fields for the poll questions appear.
Give it a try and if you make a mistake, PM one of the staff and we can correct/delete the thread.

Cheers.

The title under the username. right now mine says "gunslinger apprentice". earlier it said "Along the path..." and before that, "kennedy" does this change based on the time you've been on the site?

also, why can some people have this large image in thier signature, but i cant post a 56x56?

Matt
04-28-2008, 04:21 PM
The user titles do change by post count, there is a top secret list somewhere but I'm not sure I've ever seen it. :ninja:

The site also gives you "beam bucks" for posting, voting in polls, showing up...that kind of thing. There's a thread all about it.

With beambucks--(this is totally fake money btw), you can upgrade your account and choose your own member title if you like.

The folks with more sig space may either be admin or some that have upgraded to gold membership with the beam bucks.

razz
04-28-2008, 04:23 PM

Matt
04-28-2008, 04:26 PM
You can find out how much you have by clicking the "Casino" link in the tool bar. Its top center.

There is a store with some stuff in it--not very developed yet. I'm sure there is a link for it in the site news forum.

The "upgrade" can be bought with the beam bucks and its more sig space--member title, stuff like that. Costs 5000 though.

What determines which threads are featured in the Recent Threads section listed on the Home page. At first I thought it might be threads that have been updated frequently but looking them over a few times, I don't believe that is the case. I'm just curious. :)

It's actually forced me to log in every time I come here now for some reason. It wasn't doing that before.

It's now doing exactly the same for me Amanda. Try ticking the remember be box when it forces you to log in again. It worked for me. I haven't had any more problems with it.
