Kicking off with my Charles L. Grant collection. Getting these out and arranging them without an accidental drop or bump was probably the most stressful event of my week. I haven’t sweat like that since Misery S/L went up for public sales.

Awesome collection!

I have never heard of Scream Quietly or Quietly Now and they have pretty awesome signature pages (especially Quietly Now). What publisher did those?

EDIT: How in the world did Grant not get top billing in an anthology in tribute to his work?! That's pretty ballsy of Kealan Patrick Burke...

EDIT 2: I notice now that it's alphabetical, but still...

Thanks lotuz! Scream Quietly is PS Publishing and Quietly Now is Borderlands Press.

I have no idea what goes into that decision making process but it does seem strange Grant’s not in a special section at the top. I’m just happy to have so many great signatures in one book.

I was wrapping Scream Quietly in brodart just now and realized it’s a turtleback. Not sure if anyone will find that interesting but what the hell.

Burke was the editor.

That's a pretty dope Grant collection, man. I was pretty gung-ho about collecting him too but threw in the towel when I realized how many books he'd written.

Thank you sir!! I still need to go hunt down your signed baseball pictures btw. I just have one signature (on a baseball card though) by Hank Aaron. Actually two, I’ve got Mark McGwire’s also but it was signed in the rain and most of the damn thing is more an imprint than a signature. :wtf:

Just saw your post. If I’m being honest, I haven’t read much of these yet. A couple to know I liked the authors (Masterton’s “The Manitou” is great) but I bought them because of those covers. I’m seriously obsessed with the 70s/80s horror paperbacks right now. I think Paperbacks from Hell is the culprit.

Just picked these up at Half Price Books for what I’m told was a bargain. Apparently Satan’s Spawn is pretty rare but I’m having a difficult time finding information about it. Nor can I find it for sale anywhere. Does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks, pal. I’ve only read one of his books and there was definitely a lot of droning on. I had a hard time getting through some of it. There were parts that I really enjoyed, though. Particularly the antagonist. Really freaked me out.

If you’re a fan of Lovecraft and ever in the mood for reading an author you’ve never read, try The Ritual by Adam Nevill. It’s one of my favorites and a good scare.

I think I've read almost all of Lovecraft. I used to work at Chrysler in the salvage and then the car battery charging department, and was able to goof off and still do my duties and read a book a day. No wonder cars cost so much!

I love Lovecraft, but the covers for virtually every edition of his work turn me off (I don't know why, and it's just my taste, of course).

I did have (and probably still do have, somewhere) the gray one (The Tomb) in the upper left of the photo. I had a few of those style paperbacks, and those covers I liked.

(Anyone looking for a nice Lovecraft cover should look up Folio Society's recent editions, if you haven't seen them already - spectacular).

When I was just getting into collecting I found a few old Lovecraft hardcovers (likely Arkham House edition but can’t remember) and I chose a beat up first edition of The Talisman over them because I liked the cover more.

Thanks for the tip about Folio Society. I didn’t know about those. Coincidentally I was just looking at their Matheson books and realized they’ve got a ton of cool stuff. Relatively affordable, too.

For some damn reason, I miss the replies on this thread. I’m sorry, Peter, for just now responding. So this book... I’m in the middle of it now and I don’t know if I love it or despise the damn thing. Her writing style is unlike any other I’ve read. Very difficult to follow sometimes and often repetitive. But, I can’t put it down. So I’m just trying to get through it and find out what I really think. I don’t know if that makes any sense. :D

I haven't heard anything about the book or author, but the inscription looks fun and the cover looks creepy. A nice addition, man.

I have no idea about this book, but one of her Y/A selections, Buddha Boy, is a book we have all of our freshmen read. They like it pretty well. I thought it was pretty good. She came and spoke at our school a few years back. I was not impressed - she was winging it. Most disappointed given the money we were paying her.

Sorry to hear that. I don’t know much about her aside from the fact she wrote The Cipher. It’s not surprising to hear she was winging it. Kind of felt like that sometimes when I was reading this. Seemed like there was some esoteric deeper meaning that I simply did not pick up on.

You guys are blowing my mind. I have a collection I am proud of , a couple of first editions and a couple of signed copies from the NRB. Nothing like this. Masterton is one of my other favourites. Very nice collection.

Haha thanks, Rose! I pretty much said the same thing when I joined this site. That’s great to hear that you’re proud of your collection. For us collectors, I don’t think there’s anything more important than that. Have you started a collection thread yet?

I haven’t yet. I will soon. Gotta get my shelves organised.

Thanks to a buddy of mine who went to the Merrimack Valley Halloween Festival today, I have a couple really cool new inscriptions coming to my shelves.

First edition (hardcover) of “Occultation” by Laird Barron, an excellent collection of short stories:

Thanks buddy! I’m really glad I took your advice to read Black Sloth. What would you recommend after Imago and Occultation?

Well, this came today. I broke my rule and watched the movie having not yet read it. Spoiler alert: it sucks. Should’ve known right at the start when Eminem-wannabe Machine Gun Kelly made his appearance. His most memorable line? “Fuckin fucked.” Anyway, I don’t mean to be negative Nancy but I just watched it last night and kept thinking, “this is why books are better.” I hope I’m right!

I never heard of the book or the movie!

Is that Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep guarding your Lovecraft paperbacks?

It’s supposed to be a great book. I think my taste in movies has changed dramatically since I started reading for pleasure so I could be judging it a bit harshly. It just seemed totally unbelievable. Which would be fine but I believe we were meant to think these people could actually do the things they were doing blindfolded.

Yep! That’s a little Cthulhu image I got off Etsy a while back. It’s plastic but (sort of) looks like it could be metallic. Here’s a better picture that really brings out the tear in that neighboring copy of The Dunwich Horror

It's eyes! I'm compelled to do unspeakable things, which I can't even type about!

Arkham House Lovecrafts can be worth a pretty penny.

Haha well don’t go jumping out a window or anything!

Here are my Arkham House Lovecrafts. The two on the left are (I think) a part of a set of three. The third is The Dunwich Horror and it’s currently on its way here.
