Thank you all for having an interest in my collection. To me, half the fun of collecting is in the experience of fellowship among collectors. The other half, of course, is in the goods! Here are some of my favorite things in the world...

Nice!

Question - what is that IT between SKELETON CREW and MISERY? A custom slipcase?

Thank you, Jon. I got lucky with the sampler, it came with a large purchase and I didn’t even realize what it was. I saw it in the seller’s picture and wanted it for my DT collection. We both took a guess at what it might be valued at and I think I paid $25 for it. He’s also who I bought ‘Rage’ from. One of the most pleasant book buying experiences I’ve had yet.

I wasn’t going to post this but after looking through some of the other amazing collections that include magazines, ephemera, art, etc., I realized it may not be as irrelevant as I thought. If it is, please do tell me. The last thing I want to do is pollute the board with crap.

They’re replicas of the comic books seen in the Creepshow movies. The artist who made these had scanned the props used in the movies to create the prints for each of the combined 30+ full color pages. They’re not official, and they’re technically not limited (they’re made to order from an artist on Etsy), but I’ll be damned if they’re not cool as hell.

The artist put together two full replica comic books based on the comic books seen in the movies. Each one has multiple stories, and The Raft is included in the “Second Issue Collectors’ Edition” replica.

Here are the pages with The Raft. I’d post the links to the Etsy listings, but I’m not clear on all the rules here yet and don’t want to inadvertently break one.

I pretty much live by this rule. The reason I have all those Hill's inscribed to me lol. Their worth is only with the owner.

As far as your collection thread, Adammoro. Pretty much free reign to post whatever tickles your fancy. The thread reads My Stephen King Collection. Not even close in my case lol.

I thought I’d post my proof collection with it being Rare Proof Wednesday and all. I don’t have many, and what I do have probably doesn’t qualify as rare, but they’re part of my collection so here they are!

The Drawing of the Three, On Writing, Secretary of Dreams Vol. 2, Twice the Power, and Algernon Blackwood’s The Education of Uncle Paul.

Thanks, Brian! It’s still on my to-read list but I’m getting closer and closer. Really looking forward to it too. Leland Gant sounds like another home run King character.

Thank you, Mike. A flat signed proof...oh is that all? [emoji4] I’d probably trade all of these for one of those. In fact I’m not planning on collecting any more proofs for a while but if I come across a flat signed one I’d have to challenge that decision.

Congratulations, Adam! You are off to a great start with your proof collection. Cool, old proof of "The Education of Uncle Paul."

Thanks, John! The plan is (and was when I bought some of these) to pause on proofs until I have a few other goals completed but I couldn’t bring myself to pass on a Blackwood proof.

You’re right, Mike. My bad, I forgot to quote the post I was replying to. Thanks! It’s a pretty neat dust jacket I think, but every one I could find had at least one defect I couldn’t overlook. Didn’t think I’d ever get one in such good shape. Now I’ve got to somehow manage to sell three copies that no one will want. :D

The one in the picture is 3rd state and the other two copies I have are 2nd state. Was hoping I had gotten lucky and one of the other two was a 1st state, but looks like I’m still on the hunt. Not sure it matters that much to me, at least for now. Just happy to have a NF/NF copy of any of them.
I am a little confused on what book this is referring too.

He's talking about Eyes of the Dragon. There are 3 printer variants. So, not really 'states' - at least not ordered ones (i.e. 1st, 2nd, etc which signifies one was before the other) as they were all released simultaneously.

MikeDuke
04-11-2018, 05:24 AM
Got you Stroppy. I have one. I am pretty sure it's a 1\1 but I don't know if it's in as great shape as the one in the picture. It may have some fringing on the top of the DJ but I am happy with it. Now I have to look and see what state it is. I looked in first ed section and saw what you meant by three variant. Now I need to see what variant it is. I don't think I will go as crazy to try and find the other two. Having one that it is really nice shape is enough for me.

Here’s my Charles L. Grant collection. Peripheral recommended this author on Facebook a few months ago, and, although I hadn’t read anything by him yet, I started collecting. That’s probably something only a collector could understand— buying pricey editions of books you haven’t even read, that is. Since then I have read a bunch of his short stories and all I can say is I’m glad I’ve already made a dent in this collection.

The whole shebang:

I've never read much by Grant, so I can't say. As for Ptacek, I like her style, which can go from horror to erotic to fantasy. It's been a while since I've read anything by her. She's also written under pseudonyms, including some Romance novels, which are the only books of this type I've ever read.

Yes! I'm feeling the love for Charles L. Grant! A Master! Great collection! :)

Thanks, Jim! It could be my lack of experience reading horror fiction but, man, his stories are so original and unique. The first one I read by him was about an old man's conversation with a Pan god figure on some coast off Greece. I thought I had the wrong book until the end. Then I read, "Through All His Blood Runs Shadow" and was hooked.

Yes, i used to have quite a few of those. Unfortunately my collection is a shadow of what it once was. I'm posting this just cause I thought you might appreciate seeing this. I'll delete the pics out of your thread after you've had a chance to see it. I'd have just referred you to my thread, but it seems all of the images are dead. I've seen a later story by him in The Little Magazine listed in one or two lists of his shorts online, but not this story. I haven't looked in awhile though so it could be now or I could have failed in my search. At one point I'd contacted Kathryn Ptacek about it after he'd passed, but she only knew of another story he'd done for this magazine. The Banjo player is not a remarque; it's just printed in it I believe.

Apples and Oranges as far as compared to his father. Out of his novels, I probably like The Fireman the least. I'd highly recommend the Locke & Key Series, Horns, Heart-Shaped Box, Throttle, In the Tall Grass, Snapshot, and Loaded. I haven't read/listened to NOS4A2 (NOS4R2 UK) yet.

Thank you!!! I love the Carrie, too. Coincidentally, I currently happen to be in the grip of a severe old school horror paperback obsession, so this Carrie truly is a pride and joy right now. Tied with the McCammon collection haha.

I heard something similar about the movie and book differing. Great idea to wait for 4K! I missed this in the theaters so I’ve been bummed about having to watch it in a lesser cinematic format. 4K, a sound bar, and a big TV will at least get me a lot closer to a theater experience though!

Is it the error or non-error printing? Errors start on page 268 and go thro 273 - bottom repeated on top of next page. Some people pay more the error one.Had no idea about this. But, looks like mine doesn’t have that error. It’s kind of up in the air in terms of an error increasing value, right? I mean some errors increase value while some decrease value. Is that an accurate statement?

Lurker
06-22-2018, 09:57 AM
I think in this case it's just because the "error" printing is considered the first. Apparently when they found it, most were pulped but some escaped into the wild. I guess it depends on how completist one is. I've been working on pricing excess stuff to get rid of and I would put a signed one at about 70 bucks.

Father Cody
06-22-2018, 11:42 AM
Oh I see. Thanks. So the one with the error is the “true first edition.” I’m not a completist (yet) so I think this’ll do, but do you mean the “error” printing is around 70 or the regular?

“Books of Blood” volumes 2-6. All first editions, all signed by Barker. Interesting how different his signature is in the last book.

I really like the look of the Barron book.

And I can honestly say (no offense intended) that I have never read a story by Clive Barker that I didn't dislike.
