Intriguing, but not much to it.

ending is a let down but at the same time I enjoyed it.

the story was good, but I hated the writing. I really can't stand it when SK starts imitating speech, with always the same bywords, adages, puns, the whole syntax. Maybe I feel it as acutely being a foreigner; but it does sound as if he only can reproduce one manner of speech, and whenever an older SK character starts talking, it's as if it is still one and the same person, who was annoying enough to begin with, and would be even if alone.

Another thing is that the writer who so convincingly wrote once that no writer should approach a subject he doesn't know all the intricacies of (the example of a mansion was given, if I am not mistaken, in On Writing - that the author must know the meaning of the words like "gable" and such) - well, such an author can't seriously talk about a "chervonetz" coin found in the pocket at the time when the action takes place.

I'd give this a 2.0 but it is set in Maine so I'll give it another 0.5 for a King book set in such a new place /S.

I understand that he may be limited by means and cannot afford a plane ticket to many exotic places.

2. And that was generous. Worst ending ever. It’s like he just quit.

I actually listed to the audiobook, which was well narrated, and this was the only reason this book got a 2 instead of a 1.
