Thanks Zelig. That's my second favorite pillow. Here is my #1.

Ok so much like many of you, I'm a bookaholic. I think I have a real problem. We have so many damn books around the house it's a bit insane.

Here is our library:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1006.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1006.jpg.html)

Other side of the library that has all our classics and really old books:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1003.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1003.jpg.html)

Hallway: I think I took the "A room without books is like a body without a soul" a bit too literally.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_0476.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_0476.jpg.html)

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1011.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1011.jpg.html)

But wait, there's more: See, serious issues.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1014.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1014.jpg.html)

Ok - I don't think a library is complete without this:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/lukeko/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1004.jpg (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/lukeko/media/Dark%20Tower%20Forum/IMG_1004.jpg.html)

Thanks LokiJake. I was hesitant to share so many pictures because it's a bit much and kind of exposing, but I'm in good company here. Also, looking at all these pics makes me realize I need to stop spending. Do we have a hotline to call?

Thanks. Yeah, been at it for some time and had no idea until fairly recent about the DT Forum and that I'm not alone. Pretty refreshing. Although, I think I'm starting to push into the Hoarder realm of things. I just couldn't get rid of books, ever.

My wife will kill me if the books start to bleed too much outside of cases. I'm glad she is a reader as well and enjoys the aesthetics of the books.

Funny on the Hotline number. Actually, terrible really. I actually just bought something from David today.

Agreed. I think I want to get one for EoD done. I also feel like the S/L DT Series should be in custom slipcases with room for the originals. I've been thinking of clamshells for those as well for better preservation.

You might want to consider something more along these lines for TDT books.........................

Very cool, I've seen those pics about before (maybe on dolso's site) and I wondered who had that. Pretty epic really. Could you imagine a full DT like that? Would have to wall mount it. Hmmm that could be interesting. Thanks for sharing these. Really cool!

Very much appreciated! Fire away questions when you have them. I am likely going to do the same with your collection. I still drool over the builtins with glass doors. That is one thing I wish I would have done and regret is not get cases with doors. Rookie mistake.

Thank you Mr. Rabbit Trick. I have readers copies for my books, thank goodness. What I like to do is flip through the limiteds as I work my way through the reader copy to see the illustrations. I am too scared to actually read one of the limiteds.

I was out of town last weekend, so I just found this thread. WOW. I agree with you - books should be in every room! My office has 95% of my collectibles, but nearly every other room in the house has bookshelves. Unfortunately, my boyfriend isn't much of a reader, but he doesn't care if I put books everywhere so we get along just fine. :P

BTW, I love the normal family pillow, too!

Thanks for your note! Glad you like that pillow too. It's a fun one.

There is just something about having books around, right? Even if it's not a collectible or the one you are reading at the moment. That's great your boyfriend doesn't mind the growing or scattered stacks.

Funny personal factoid: my wife wasn't much of a reader either. We started reading Mr. Mercedes together, and she got through it faster than I did and worked through the trilogy. She isn't a huge King fan as I am, but it jump started her back into reading.

Pics of the theater?

Sure thing. I should be able to post those up tomorrow. This theater was the coolest thing, hobby wise (outside of my book collection) that I've done. We haven't been out to a movie in about two years because of this thing. I had been wanting to build a commercial private cinema in our basement for a very long time and finally made it happen. From Sound Isolation, Measured Acoustic Treatments, Bi-Amplified ProAudio Matched speakers throughout, and plenty of amplification. I could watch movies all day long.

Ok - got a bit carried away there. It was a really fun project that I was nervous about at first, but thankfully turned out wonderfully. More to come.

Absolutely! It would be selfish not to share. :-) The Dark Tower is being released in 'Dolby Atmos' of which was a main criteria to our theater. If you haven't experianced a native Atmos movie in a real Atmos theater, whew, it's phenomenal. For those going to a cinema to watch DT, please try to find a Dolby Atmos enabled theater if there is one close to you. Not to mention watching 'It' in an atmos theater. It will be a worthwhile experiance.

Just to preface, our theater isn't huge. Only seats 7, but is comfy and well balanced.

Here are pictures of the finished theater: A couple of notes (The walls and ceiling are stretch fabric which are acoustically transparent so that the sound will hit the acoustic treatments). The goal of the theater was to create sort of a vessel feel, hence the arched columns and beams. I know this isn't King or DT related, but hope you enjoy. It took about 8 months to finish but was well worth it. It's a treat every time we watch something. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Webstar - You have a sweet setup for sure. Those are great speakers and 11.2 is excellent! I went a bit over the top and got carried away.

Here is the amp breakdown:

-Front Mains (Left, Center, Right) 450W to each Low Frequency (LF) Channel (12" woofer) and 200W to each High Frequency (HF) Channel (Tweeter)
-All Surround Channels, including the ceiling speakers are 300W for the LF and 100W for the HF
-The Two Main 15" Subwoofers have 1000W Each.

About 7950W total. Craziness. But it creates extremely clear highs and mids, with very well balanced bass. The full range sound is something for both movies and for music or concert blurays. I think what really makes most of a difference is having the dedicated space and the isolation and acoustic treatment. It really allows for a much cleaner sound.

I can hear the kernels popping now. You know, I'm still trying to figure out how the first person that came up with popcorn did it. Seems like it had to have been an accident right? Corn field caught fire and there were all these yummy puffs about?

Whoever figured it out, many thanks because I can eat me some fresh popped goodness.

VERY impressive... VERY VERY impressed. Nice job.. I cannot imagine the cost you have into this room. Great work:)

I really appreciate it. Yeah, it wasn't cheap. My wife was really worried about it at first. Then I started to get worried about it as well. It was taking quite some time and of course there were changes and extra costs along the way. It was a bit of a stressful period of time. Thankfully it all worked out. In fact when it was all done and we got into calibration mode the excitement was building. Then when we watched the first movie in it (Which was a really tough choice, but ultimately went with Intersteller as it was something we all hadn't seen and thought would be cinematic enough). Wow was it an experience. I got worried for a bit during some of the actual travel scenes. It felt like we were in the shuttle and I thought the ceiling was going to come down. My wife, who like movies, but isn't a nutsoid like me and would have been fine without the theater was awestruck by it. That made it all worth it, she really enjoys it. Our two boys, well, this was an easy one for them to be pleased about. I did a transformers movie marathon with my older boy (13) and it was fantastic. Ok, see I start to babble about it.

But yes, between the Theater and the Book Collecting, I'm going to run dry pretty soon. lol. Why couldn't I have just been interested in collecting stamps or something. Matchbox cars. Something a tad less expensive. :-)

I have one more question. How would you compare the picture image to Blu-ray on a normal (or in my case HD projection) TV? Better, worse, the same?

I have one more question. How would you compare the picture image to Blu-ray on a normal (or in my case HD projection) TV? Better, worse, the same?

Sure thing. This is a good question. When I was putting all this together my main focus was on audio much more so than the video. I wanted a good picture but excellent audio and surround sound. I did end up getting a very nice projector but it really wasn't until we started watching it that I realized how crisp of a picture it put out. One thing of note is this is the first projector I have ever owned. I'm used to flat panels previous and of course the days of CRTs and rear projection. So I went in thinking I couldn't get as nice of a picture on a projector as I could get on a TV.

Ok, so to answer the question, and this could be because the room does get full dark, but that projector puts out the clearest picture I have ever seen. With that said I do think if I were to put an LED TV in the same room it would look just as good. I think if you can't get a full dark room or close to it a LED is a better route to go. But if you need a large size, can darken the room the projection is the way to go. Especially for anything HD and Bluray. And now with HDR and 4K videos. Its pretty phenomenal how far we've come.

Most were digitally altered after filming for the 3d "effect". Movies that are planned as 3d, and shot correctly can look amazing. Another factor is ambient lihting. Most 3d movies command near total darkness in the room or theater, as the phase shift the glasses cause make your mind interpret 3d, but also make the image less bright.

Agreed, lighting makes a world of difference. Great breakdown of real 3D and processed 3D. I find that, and this could totally be in my head, movies that are processed 3D after the fact are the ones I tend to strain my eyes during.

I'm in a very Random Act of Kindness zone. A very interesting thing happened today. I was with my wife and our youngest son for lunch today and then Ice Cream after. A nice little ma' and pa' ice cream shop in our area - homemade deliciousness. So, we were in line and placed our order and was getting ready to pay and we were told it was paid for by the person that was before us. I tried to see if I could find that person but he had already left. The gal at the counter and my wife and I agreed how nice and random that was. Pretty amazing really. It was not only surprising, but just so neat how something so simple had such a positive effect.

With that said, I would like to 'pay it forward' in hopes that in some way it will create the same positive energy for you and someone you come across tomorrow. It was nice to read, across a few threads, how much you had enjoyed Boy's Life and I agree, such great story by a great author. This was a really well done S/L edition and any McCammon fan, that has read and enjoyed Boy's Life such as you did I think would really enjoy this edition. I would like to send you an extra copy of mine. Please PM me with shipping address and I'll take care of it from there.

Pay it forward! :-)

I very much appreciate everyone's kind remarks and comments. One thing I wanted to add, that is important, is although the random act of kindness my family and I endured at the ice cream shop was a wonderful surprise, I was also motivated by this forum. I haven't been a member for very long and am amazed by the warm welcome, the kind folks such as yourselves. The fun conversations, informative conversations, and yes even the crazier ones. In a short time many of you have already surprised me with acts of kindness from actual books (the rebound Firestarter, Eyes of the Dragon, and many others) to inclusion for feedback on projects, and other things outside of the forum. Seriously, from words of caution on certain editions I was pursuing and potential legitimacy issues or high cost concerns. This group really has each other's backs. You name it, this is truly a great bunch. It would be a long list if I named out everyone that has helped me in some way. So, I will just say: I'm grateful to all of you!

Now when working in my office and I feel frustrated with something or start to get lazy, I can look up and see Roland. He'd probably scold me, "those who get frustrated or lazy with work have forgotten the face of their father" then back to work I go realizing, it's not all that bad.

So, Travelin Jack has urged me to share a story with you guys...
As most of you saw in the thread recently, Travelin Jack did an awesome thing by gifting me with one of his rare copies of Robert McCammon's Boy's Life because I had fallen head over heels in love with the story and he was motivated to pay-it-forward because a stranger had inspired him. I was reluctant to accept the book at first because it was such a huge deal, but he assured me that he really wanted to pass it along to me. The deal, he said, was that I had to agree to pay-it-forward to someone else.
I agreed because I thought this was a very awesome agreement (and because I really wanted my hands on that book  ) Well, I paid it forward a few days ago. I visted my local used bookstore and tucked some money and a note inside a paperback copy of The Talisman. Hopefully, when someone picks the book up to read, they will not only get an awesome story, but motivation to keep the positive energy going by paying it forward to someone else.
I shared the story with Travelin Jack so he'd know I kept up my end of the bargain, and he suggested I share it with you guys with hopes that someone else may become motivated as well.

I've really gotta give TravelinJack credit on this. I not only carried out my end of the deal because it was our agreement, but I did (and do) think it was a great idea on his part. It does make me pretty happy to think of the person who picks up that copy of The Talisman. :)

I think I've got to bump the credit back to the guy at the ice-cream shop. Although, the funny and really interesting thing about all of this is, it could have started months or years ago if you think about it. Who knows who started this chain of events. Pretty wild when you think about it.

Girlystevedave I appreciate you sharing your 'pay-it-forward' experience! You had a really clever idea with the note and money in the book. What an incredible and unexpected surprise that will be for that person!! In The Talisman no less, great stuff!

I figured since the good cheer was spread to me via a book, what better way to "repay" than with another book. I think we can always agree that certain books "stay" with us all our lives and I thought it pretty neat to think of someone always associating their first read of The Talisman with something positive.

Thanks all! I waited a long time to try to track this down. Which, as we know, isn't always the wisest choice with appreciating collectibles. I missed random auctions that seemed to be priced decently.

Then, one random morning not too long ago, I remember asking the forum what the, now-a-days fair price for such a gem would be. Just to make sure I wasn't going to overpay. Consequently, there after I was getting my daily morning Betts Books fix in (it has become just as regular as coffee it seems) and poof, there it was. Couldn't believe it. I drew for my phone with gunslinger like speed so I could email David. Of course, in the process I snagged the edge of my pocket. Without having the best grip, my phone goes flying out of my hands falling to the floor (not so gunslinger). I opened up my email and typed as fast as Edris Alba's version of Roland was loading a spinning sixshooter (gunslinger again). The rest is history so the good people say. :)

Wow 11K to 17K for the original. Crazy.

Yeah 1K for a print, even S/L, is too much. I am going to hold out until I can get my hands on one around the 500 mark.

The original would be neat to just see. I have two young boys in the house, that pretty much eliminates original artwork for me. They keep there paws off the books, but art work is so tempting. Although I was somewhat surprised when I hung my Whelan DT prints. My oldest (13) is really intrigued by it. Even my four year old comes into my office to just look at those. Fascinating really.

I told the 13 y/o he's not ready for DT yet, but is ready for EOTD. So that is on his summer reading list.

The original changed hands shortly after for 17k I believe.

No was bought by a member here but did not change hands for that much more my man. I am privy to the deal and it was to another member and was for a very very small modest increase.

$100 for dust jacket is reasonable. I don't know what the S/L prints have sold for recently, if at all - there are only 200, but keep in mind it is also double matted and framed, which is $250 or so.

I started reading King at age 11.

I remember being around that age 11 or 12 as well. My sister had me read It, talk about a whopper of nightmares. That and one of my older brothers always wanted me to watch Horror movies with him. I'm pretty sure I saw Exorcist at 10 or 11. Surprised I don't have a few hinges loose. :-p

I don't think I mentioned when the auction was done, but I had won the HF Auction #22 - Bill Hodges Rebound Trilogy with six Alex McVey remarques - two in each volume. End of Watch was also signed. I just received them yesterday and couldn't be more happy. There is a reason for the three week delay, check out the pics below and see what Randall Flagg was kind enough to do for me!

A few extra notes: the nubuk custom binding is incredible as is the moire endpapers, great work on that! The remarques by McVey are so cool to see in person, excellent work as well. This is an incredible addition to the collection. Couldn't be happier about it. Thanks to all involved!

Thanks! - I should clarify, when the auction was over, I had asked RF what the chances of getting the first two signed were. He had offered (since I had MM and FK signed 1st/1sts) that I could ship those to him and then he to the binder and transfer the signature pages over. It was done flawlessly and thank goodness all books made it to and from just fine.

Many thanks everyone! Seeing it in person and feeling the material is amazing, great choice RF.

Btw - a side note on the trilogy DJs there is an annoying flaw, the 'End of Watch' title on the spine is a lighter red and looks faded almost pink/salmon. I have seen this on 3 sets now. Anyone else that have it notice that?

Yes, they used a lighter shade of red for sure. Almost as annoying as the 'Part numbers' on the Green Mile PB spines not lining up....

Hi my good friends in DT land! - It's been a while since I've updated my collection thread. Well, the good news is I have completed my King collection. That is, with all of my personal gaps, etc. This of course does not include future editions and current pre-orders. I have since been moving most of all my duplicates/multiples aside and am going to be sending to Betts. Most are gift editions, some S/Ls, and some artwork and portfolios. Hopefully some end up on some of your shelves.

I wouldn't have been able to fill these gaps hadn't I received the help from many of you all here. So many many thanks!

I have been continuing my collection for other authors I read and collect (McCammon, Lansdale, GRRM, Brown, Hobbs, Scalzi, Abercrombie, etc). Most in the Sci-Fi / Fantasy genres. I have filled almost all my gaps with non-King books I've been after as well. It feels nice to have some collectible closure so to speak. I have also been listing, here and there, some of my multiples for non-King. I just needed a little 'house cleaning' so that this habit didn't turn hoarding. It was getting close.

Here are some updated picks of the main cases and shelves. A handful of new things as well. As always please feel free to let me know if you want to see any specific books in more details, or have questions, etc.

Thanks for lookin'

Just picked these up recently from SP-Books. These numbered limited editions (of 1000) were discussed on another thread (other collectible authors, I think). I really enjoy these a lot. They are handwritten manuscript copies of The Great Gatsby and Frankenstein. Really really neat to read and see their own edits, cross outs, editions, deletions, and notes.

Thanks - that is the rebound version of the Hodges trilogy with McVey remarques and that was up for auction for the Haven foundation 2017. The set was done, fantastically, by Jerome and Bill. Hope I didn't miss anyone. If you go back to page 8 of this thread -Post#188- you'll see more pics and some info.

I appreciate the double kindness. Your collection is super sweet too my friend. I've been watching it build up. Fun to see everyones collection's grow. Couldn't do it without this site (or at least would be extremely difficult). As you know, a lot of good people here helping out others with their collections. Sometimes out of nowhere something you've been searching for or hoping for just pops up in a PM from someone making the assist.

It has taken me a long time to get where I am. I was late to the party on a number of items and now I am playing catch up. But I am trying to get some cool stuff that I missed. And thanks for the nice words about my collection also. I just keep plugging away.

This collecting business is definitely a long game that’s for sure. Keep on pluggin’! Oh, by the way, I tried to reply to your PM but your inbox is full, so it won’t go through.

I just noticed that you are in NoVa. Was that you on 66 the other day that cut me off? .... Just Kidding! :)

Hey, if you are ever in Rockville be sure to swing by Second Story Books. You won't be disappointed. A huge warehouse full of book goodness! They also have a location in Dupont Circle (which is not a warehouse), but I try to avoid driving in DC unless I absolutely have to, if you know what I mean. :)

Hah, I was thinking that was you texting and driving and swerving into my lane.

I avoid DC as much as I can as well. A constant nightmare of traffic. I appreciate the info on Second Story Books, i’ll have to check it out.

It's right there, my friend.

https://www.secondstorybooks.com/

It looks like shit from the outside, but there is a treasure of books on the inside! They even have a huge selection of LP's and DVD's and comics. Trust me, you walk into that place and you will be amazed! Insider tip: Take notice of the boxes of books on the floor when you first walk in, that's where you will find the hidden gold! And in the annex section, by the LP's, lots of first editions back there. ;)

Non-Fiction? It would take you a month to go through all of it.

Are those rebound Mr. Mercedes trilogy first ed books, or are they the ones that came in that box set. I think, for me, I would leave mine alone since they are all flat signed. But they do look awesome.

They are flatsigned first editions, rebound, with remarques by McVey. These were done for the Haven Foundation Charity last year as one of the auction items.

OK. So when I first looked at your thread I did not start at the beginning. Just your first page is drool worthy. Your "Overflow shelf' made me laugh. Now that I went through the entire thread I realize it's true awesomeness. Keep it up man. Keep it up.

WOW.
I taking a much closer look now at your bookshelves. And it makes me want to build a time machine. You have quite a number of S\L there. Very impressive indeed. No matter what I do, or how much help I get, I will never have a S\L collection like this or others. That's OK though. I will just get what I can.

Thanks for the tips! I definitely want to go there sometime soon.

Also, the Towson library does a huge book sale every year (this year starts 4/19) and there's TONS of books. Paperbacks for 0.25 cents and hardcovers for two or three. I went for the first time last year and couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before.
