I’m hoping that when the the day arrives to make one particular announcement Paul foregoes the clues and puts….

“April 22……Hannibal”

And watch the frenzy commence, including myself.

Hi Paul, are you anticipating the April-May-June announcement schedule will drop this week along with the March title?

We post the next quarterly schedule on the Monday following the last book announcement of the current quarter. It's all locked and loaded, so will be posted then.

That was another great video Paul that dealt with CATCF.

Thanks Mike. Appreciate it. There are more videos in the pipeline.

If you're going to frame it, then it may be fine. If I remember correctly, the top edge was bumped. But I think that could be flattened with the framing. I just need to make sure I still have them. I'll let you know early next week and I'll put them up for purchase at half the regular price.

Paul and team, I’m very much enjoying my reread of Imajica. The prose and story are fantastic, of course, but reading the AE adds so much more to the experience. I love the style of the “illuminated” chapter pages, and the geometric diagram at the head of each is always intriguing. It’s fun to try to relate it to that chapter’s content in some way, as a commentary on the characters relationships, perhaps. I haven’t read the appendix on this topic yet, so I’ll be interested to see what it says about them.

The book itself is very sturdy too; despite its obvious weight, I never feel like that weight is putting too much strain on the binding or boards. It feels designed to be read.

In his introduction (originally for a two-volume edition) the author states that the details of any given edition don’t matter much to him, and that the content of the work is all that matters. Reading this edition, I respectfully disagree.

Much thanks to everyone involved. Outstanding work all around.

I read the The Omen novel as a teenager; I don't remember much other than that I liked it. I believed this was simply a novelization of an existing movie (and therefore an unlikely Suntup candidate), but a quick look online shows that the Omen novel was written by the same person (David Seltzer) that wrote the screenplay of the (original) movie. This may add a touch of legitimacy to what otherwise would be a simple novelization (Neil Gaiman did something similar with Neverwhere, as did Arthur C. Clarke with 2001: A Space Odyssey - if that's what Seltzer was doing (this is a guess)).

I just tried myself, and I get PayPal as an option. When you are going through the checkout process, do you get to a screen that says "Shop Pay" at the top? If so, look for a link lower down that says "Alternate payment methods" or something along those lines. Then it will take you to a screen where you can select PayPal.

I received an order yesterday for this jacket with the payment made through PayPal. If what I suggested doesn't work, go with the standard generic tech support response of "clear your browser cache or try a different browser". Although whenever I've been told to do that, it rarely solves the issue. But bottom line is, I can verify that PayPal is available and working for this item. If still no luck, just send me an email using the contact form, and I will send you a link you can use.

The lettered videos are VERY interesting, thanks for sharing Paul!
Especially since I will never have a lettered

The videos I am talking about : https://suntup.press/news/behind-the-scenes-videos-the-wolfen-lettered-edition

Can I ask what those moments means?

First video :
- 00:59 : why so much details into folding? What was the folding about?
- 01:30 : can I say, not that I bought the book, that the title on the spine seems kinda hard to read from the video? I wonder in person what it's like
- at the end of the video, I would recommend to put the url bigger (but maybe add another spaced line to make it more readable?)

Second video :
1min46 : what is he applying? Some kind of cleaning product?

Obviously it wouldn't be shared, but everytime I am scared that someone screws up in the videos :s

But overall it looks like a great attention to details, congrats!
I can't find the link on FB anymore, but from I remember Francois V seemed quite pleased with his copy :)

No problem. Pleased you like it. Here's some answers to your questions:

First 00:59 - It's one of several techniques used to apply the endsheets. The flyleaf could be laminated to a facing page (usually with marbled paper because the back of the paper isn't pretty), or not laminated at all. But in this case, she used a completely different technique where, instead of laminating the entire back of the flyleaf, it is attached to the facing page at the fore edge only. What you're seeing is the cutting, folding and glueing required to achieve that.

First 01:40 - It's blind stamped, so not as easy to read as if we used a color foil. But that was just a design choice we made.

Second 01:46 - It's likely the wood stain or varnish.

OldCrow88
03-28-2022, 03:01 PM
Personally, I think the blind stamp on the spine looks organic and gorgeous. The whole production is amazing and I'm grateful to Paul for giving us the videos. If I could, I'd go nominate them for a "best documentary short" Oscar!

Anyone on this forum currently have #113 for the numbered editions? I'm looking to swap my Hannibal #145, since it appears that's what I've been assigned for Dark Matter, for #113 Hannibal so I can match the other two or I'd be open to selling my matching # Red Dragon/Silence.

I get that, I was only able to stay on as long as I did because I sold a number of books on the Facebook group. Having a matching Hannibal was the main reason why I stayed the course, I’ll be jumping off the train next month.

Totally agree, I picked up a Numbered today when it was opened to the public. I just wasn't sure if the OP was suggesting it actually made it the public because of a lack of interest. Sounds like, as expected, it was a bit of both :)

I really tried to give it a fair shake but it just doesn't stand up to the trilogy at all

When he was promoting Cari Mora someone asked him about the reports that Dino de Laurentiis effectively forced him to write Hannibal Rising and he didn’t dispute it but said it was more of a “cordial persuasion”. Maybe he just didn’t want to speak ill of the dead at that point. (Dino did come off as very shameless at times in my opinion, he likened Hannibal to James Bond in terms of franchise potential at one point.)

One of my main issues was it never really gave us the point where Hannibal goes from killing out of vengeance to just killing people because he wants to. There’s a point in Sweeney Todd where he goes from wanting to kill the person who wronged him to killing indiscriminately and in my opinion Hannibal needed some kind of realization like that.

https://youtu.be/_jcLbfUZT9A

I don’t take issue with giving him a backstory but the whole book felt unnecessary in the end.

ISO Suntup’s Hannibal series books designated #172

This week I was successful in buying a copy of Hannibal so if you were open to a trade, please contact me, and I am sure we can come up with a decent deal that will be beneficial to the both of us.

The Deal:

I would like to trade my Hannibal numbered for your Hannibal numbered, to be sent immediately on receipt in the original packaging with extras

I would also add my numbered Wolfen. This is number 172, so you will be adding to your collection. It is in perfect condition, and on confirmation of agreement, will be sent in the next few days.

I think this is a more than fair deal and an opportunity to extend your 172 collection. I would love to have all three matching in my collection.

Pm me if interested and we can work something out.

Thanks for reading,

Oh boy!
My BLACKWATER was delivered, but who knows where!
I talked to the mailman who has no recollection of delivering a package anywhere.
I called the post office, and they said they'll figure it out.
Let's hope so!
As some writer or somebody said, it's probably much ado about nothing.

Everything about the JAWS AE is top notch. The new content, the design including the colored page block, the limitation page, the packing foam, and even the packaging tape. What a fun experience all around. Well executed, Team Suntup!

It wasn’t until the second box. The first box I was too enraptured at the first hint of the blue foam to pay any attention to the outside. My mind is still blown that your ordered special tape, like the foam wasn’t already enough.

I just secured a #d LTROI for a really good price from the Facebook group, can't wait for it to come! My second book case will also be ready soon.
I am desperately in need of more room, with more coming I can't wait to be able to spread some of these books out and actually display some of them

P.s at least 4 or 5 of the books in the picture (mostly non Suntup) were bought from people here :D Excited to give these books some room to breathe

I must have only posted pics of Jaws AE in my thread, but is a spectacular ed. The case, the DJ, the extras all make this a very good addition to a collection.
And I got an email that my BB AE will soon be on it's way. Can't wait for that one either.
Paul, you are really hitting on all cylinders.

Someone sent me a reputation comment with a message attached and i'm not really sure how the reputation communication system works or even how to find it on these boards.

Their message stated "Do you keep any of your Suntup books, haha"

Now I'm unsure if this was done in snark or what. I'm thinking it might not have been, as they used the poor mans' emoticon of haha on the end but i'm not sure, rofl, because they chose to comment from a position of anonymity instead of sending me a pm. BUT i'm unsure of how to reply to this comment (or if you can at all) and I cant even find the reputation section and/or read the comment again.

In any case I've decide to just answer that query out loud in the forum, for whatever it's worth! :D

I have kept a majority of my Suntup books. I got literally the last seat on the train when I bought the very last Eyes of the Dragon Portfolio upon the announcement of Misery. I own (and still own) all of the books with the exception of Brother through the Wells trilogy. I fell off the train and lost my number because I thought I would be able to buy a numbered copy of Brother after the original weekend solicitation (since I knew that, most probably, the newly increased to 500 limitation would not sell out on solicitation day) and that was not the case. Stayed off for few books and got back on at Red Dragon.

Suntup numbered are expensive and I am a blue collar worker. It is hard, at times, for me to even afford these readable works of art at all, much less at the pace of 1 per month.

I am a person who likes matched numbers. even though i will never have a completely matched numbered set. I like to try and keep my rights so that if a book comes out that I like it can be matched with the current number I am holding.

I normally choose to sell a book if I don't like the book, or perhaps if I am too poor at the moment to facilitate purchasing it, and normally try to do it during preorder with the contingency that I keep the rights.

To date I have pre-sold:

Imagica: (even though I like Barker the price point was expensive and I preferred the design of the AE which I also bought)
Blackwater: (I own a copy of the Centipede production and didnt feel the need for two expensive books of this title)
Hex: (was just a little broke to afford this one at the time of solicitation, and pre-sold it while buying an AE, even though i enjoyed the look of the #ed)

I currently own all of the other books and a good number of the AEs as well (although I have stopped buying all AEs direct from publisher as carrying the monthly payment of the more expensive numbered is retaining my focus and the AEs are fairly easily obtained on the aftermarket)

I am currently carrying 4 monthly partial.ly payment plan payments and figure as the Omen is a novelization, it is one I can skip.

I appreciate the folks who have bought pre-orders from me as it has helped me to retain my number. I have found buyers both on these very boards as well as Facebook groups.

I hope this answers the question, and I sincerely hope it wasn't asked in snark.

Collecting Suntup can certainly be a rich man's game, but Paul has done a lot of things to get his books into the hands of people across different demographics, including offering payment plans, designing lower cost books (AEs), or upping AE limitations.

Now, does anybody want to buy my pre-order OMEN :belial:

The Omen is an example (Wolfen being another) of a practice of Suntup's I really like: calling attention (by publishing a special edition) to a work that retains significance despite falling far enough from mainstream consciousness to the point that an ordinary printed edition is no longer readily available.

I also savor the reaction to these choices of the Library Thing Book Brahmins, who continue to weep openly over Suntup's publications and practices (they complain - a lot - about the scarcity of books they profess to dislike).

A stripped book is a mass market paperback that has been stripped of its cover in order to be recycled. The covers are returned to the publisher as evidence that the books have been destroyed and to obtain a credit on the purchase price. The books are meant to be destroyed by pulping but some find their way to street merchants, presumably by illegal means, and are resold. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stripped_book)

Posted on fb earlier, and thought I’d post here too.

Huge delivery day today, my first ever Suntup lettered, and what a beauty.

No prizes when I say, to me, that this is the top none King book to be published. Some love it, some think it’s meh! I love it.

Many years ago a close colleague recommended it to me not long after it had been released, and I had to order it from the US as it hadn’t had an international release as yet. She told me it was mind blowing, thought provoking, and would stay with you long after you’d finished it.

I’m going to be as honest as I can, my young typical boy thoughts tended first towards how much action and fornication I could get through if it happened to me, then to the other end of the spectrum, of the implications of reliving those lives over and over again, to the point of how it could change your soul and existence and the knowledge that you could garner and use, to the ultimate question of why don’t I do all those things now, in the real world..

Jeff Winston is far from faultless, but who is? He isn’t a hero, or a villain, just an everyday guy, who relives his life over and over. The rush to the last chapters, after so many revisits, just blow me away, like a whirlwind, just don’t want it to end, so I read it ever year or so, love it, just as much as my first time.

I’m sure it wasn’t my first time travel story, (the time machine I think) but the first that really gripped me as deeply as this. Morlocks scared the life out of me, this just made me think beyond the book.

Paul’s first surveys were returned, with Replay up there at the top, always. My posts always had a footnote, and many emails sent to the suntup team begging for it to be printed. Now I’m not saying it was my sole efforts that got this published, it wasn’t, but I’d love to think I was a big part of the tug of war that dragged this book over the line, and one day, a replay arc turned up on my doorstep, with compliments. I love that about Suntup more than anything, they pay attention.

One thing I do know (other than that the book isn’t real, I know that) is if it happened to me, I most likely would be buying an eyes of the dragon portfolio (numbered and lettered) on each pass! And nagging for this book to be made again too!

Thank you and sorry, I needed to get that off my chest.

I agree. SH5 looks like an amazing book. I only have 1 and half shelves left for my Suntup books. But, it should be a while. At least until those two monsters show up. But I still have a lot coming my way, so hope I can make it a little further with my one book case. But those two monsters have me concerned, in a good way :). Including today, I still have 16 books I have to figure out where to put. Man, nobody warned me :arg:.

Really excited about 'Slaughterhouse Five' - if any numbered are available Saturday I'll buy one. The numbered edition tics all the boxes for me - great art, very classy & restrained binding design, and printed letterpress on a nice paper. Printing looks to have a pretty serious bite to it, based on the photos. Just going off the mockups, this might follow just behind 'Blood Meridian' and the lettered edition of 'The Lottery' for my favorite Suntup book overall.

I am stoked for Slaughter-House 5. One of my favorite authors and beautiful designs by Team Suntup. Looking forward to both the Numbered and the AE.

I hardly ever figure out the hints for the books in the quarter. But, it really doesn't matter because I am going to buy them anyway. Come on 12:00 EST :).
BTW, there are 6 left now. They may not make it to 12:00 EST 9 PST, and if they do, it may be
a frenzy if people can guess the next books.

Today's hints?
You know, we are talking about todays next quarter news letter, where Paul gives everyone clues on what July, Aug and Sept books are.

My guess is:

WAR AND PEACE by Leo Tolstoy
THE BLAH STORY by Nigel Tomm
The entire MISSION EARTH by L. Ron Hubbard in ONE volume

Of course, I could be wrong.

If the small rectangular thing(s) on Paul's desk in the last live were a hint of things to come this quarter (or the next) then my guess would be that maybe American Psycho is in the mix. Because those looked like business cards to me. 😊

But hey, i'm just random guessing and speculating here. 😅

The Stepford Wives is the last title, i think. 😉
