While there are specific prizes associated with specific golden tickets, I don't know (and wonder) what the prizes might be with the online form (I'd be happy with a gift certificate to one of those Fortnum & Mason boxes of chocolate).

So quick question for anyone over at Suntup HQ:
I purchased the AE, but also entered the form in advance to that on the site.
Does that negate your chances with the purchase(s)?

If so, can the form entry be removed?

That's no problem. You can submit an entry using the form even if you purchased a copy.

I'm really on the fence post. Not trying too super hard to find the sale. If one materializes I'll make the call. Appreciate the data points, though.

I have the capacity to take on a 6 month payment plan and will do that & keep my number if i cant find a sale for a price id like.

I will admit that I really want to open a book and find a golden ticket, LOL. I have bought an artist edition already, but you never know

I wasn't a fan of it, but I readily admit I tend to be among the minority on this one. Great premise, but poor execution on other fronts that may or may not have been due to the translation and, as I recall, the revised ending attached to the UK edition.

A few people have been asking us about the 250 copy print run on an upcoming title and if there will be any more. I added the following to one of our support articles, but posting here if it's helpful:

Editions with a 250 Print Run

We have been asked whether there will be any future Numbered editions published with a 250 print run. The answer is yes, there will be. We currently have three books under contract which are locked in at 250 copies. In all three cases, these titles have been under contract for approximately 2 years, and at that time, our print run for Numbered editions was 250.

We had several other titles which were in the same boat, and when demand for our books began increasing rapidly, we went back over our agreements, and wherever we could increase the quantities to 350, we did. But there were three titles which remained at 250, and which could not be increased for several reasons. Although we cannot say there will never be another 250 copy print run on future titles, we have no more Numbered editions currently under contract at a 250 print run beyond the three mentioned.

I managed to buy myself a copy of Blackwater numbered purely because I think it looks amazing, and think the lettered is something else too, but I had never read it at all. Purchased purely on the cosmetics and art.

I started reading/listening to it over the last couple of weeks, and pun intended, this floats my boat. What a story, I think I am only a quarter of the way through it and love the slow burn of the plot, and the quick, short snap of the punchlines, which it does not hold back on. No spoilers, but hells bells, I want to know what happens.

I literally am reading it in all the quiet moments and listening in between too, when the opportunity rises (housework, and work work moments).

I hope it maintains the level throughout as itching to know what happens.

Brilliant. I was looking forward to having this on my shelf, but now, it’s not a want but a need!

Great choice of book to publish Paul, great choice.

Yeah, definitely different than the others. And nothing really in the cube (the Jaws image is on the back), except for the layer of blue "water".

And yet, when you look at it, especially right at eye level - the layer of blue on the bottom, the clear on top, and the image on the back - it really creates a very cool effect. Almost like watching it happen while you're floating nearby!

I was looking over my books today, and checked the slipcase on my numbered SOTL as I thought I'd seen something about issues with the cases (of course I can't find it now).

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I can see cardboard showing through on both back corners, and a little bit of glue on at least one of them. Is this typical for these slipcases? I don't have anything like this on any of my others.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I can see cardboard showing through on both back corners, and a little bit of glue on at least one of them. Is this typical for these slipcases? I don't have anything like this on any of my others.

Looked at mine. I don’t think it’s the cardboard but rather the edge of the cloth folded over.

Looked at mine. I don’t think it’s the cardboard but rather the edge of the cloth folded over.

If you click on the image and look at the full res picture, it's easier to see. I just looked at the case again, with a magnifying glass, and I'm 99% sure it's cardboard. Nothing in the cloth cover is that color, and you can see some of the lines where the paper is pressed together in the cardboard. It looks like the fabric was cut too short, or not placed quite right when they wrapped the corners.

I'm not trying to cause an issue; I just want to know if I have a "bad" slipcase, or if this is what they all look like. I know there have been a few production issues that were completely outside of Suntup's control.

Perhaps Paul or Kris can provide a definitive answer on this?

Hi BrewMeister, this has been discussed on the FB group. I don’t know what you’re seeing because the picture isn’t loading for me, but from what you are describing, all cases have that rough edge at the top and bottom of the spine. Working with the brocade cloth was challenging. The case maker had already implemented some refinements to make it as clean as possible but that is as good as it gets. I’m rethinking the use of this type of cloth on any future edition, and will likely stay away from it.

You’re welcome to send an email using the contact form with pictures so that I can see if your case exhibits anything beyond what the others look like and if so, I will replace it. Thanks.

Message from Paul
Hi Friends,

As you may already know, we had two books scheduled to be announced in November 2021. We have decided to postpone the first of the two November book announcements due to some production delays we are experiencing on that title. This book is not as far along as I would like, and I would prefer to wait until it is further along before announcing it.

Therefore, our next book announcement will take place on Thursday, November 18th at 9 a.m. PT. Please note that the Numbered edition of this book is a 250 print run. Owners of The Collector with a designation of 1-250 will be placed on a Matching Pre-Order list with an opportunity to pre-order the book before it goes on sale to the public.

1-250 will have right of first refusal to purchase the November book. The book which we are postponing will be announced in early 2022, so rights holders will have the opportunity to purchase it then. Hope that answers your question.

How does a book like the CATCF prototype make it "out in the wild" like that? I was not aware of any contest or anything giving one of those away. Just curious.

Well, they may go, if people want to make sure that they have rights to the next book. Or they could take a chance and skip this one and get the next one
if it doesn't sell out pre-sale or go to a lottery. I know people are worried about it. Paul may, or he may not. I remember him saying that he did not need a book to sell out
in 3 hours or 3 days and did not mind when a book did not sell out so when people found the website, they would have something to get.
Plus, as was alluded to above, it may let people who had to jump of the train for whatever reason, to get back on. Let's see what happens
over time and what happens with the next book.

There is currently a bit less than a thousands books unsold according to the website, which represents a bit of money, but I am guessing that if there was a financial concern, Suntup would have simply not gone forward with the Charlie contest.
So I guess that at the moment there is no concern, but eventually it would be nice for them to sell the leftover books. Maybe could get back to all the websites that promoted Misery when it was announced (I know I saw last week a publication on Bloody Disgusting about "The Collector"). But I am also confident that Paul did consider before increasing the print run of AE (and numbered) that not all books will sell out quickly, so it's not a surprised and part of the plan. In a certain extent

I hope you have a good size garage Paul :)

I don't get why a run of 350 $600 books not selling out within 5 days is a problem. I bought into the numbered set with Horns but honestly couldn't afford to keep buying 1-2 books a month at the $300-600 price point. The numbered books are beautiful and I'd love to own them all but it just isn't in my budget. There are always going to be people that want high quality books.

I'd really like a Artist subscription service. I was on military (civ) travel and missed the Silence of the Lambs Artist release. I luckily got one from Subterranean.

I know I could never afford the lettered or roman editions but I like to look and I appreciate the connectivity and communication from Paul.

Just to be clear I stopped buying numbered editions after Neuromancer.

Thanks. It worries me because the books I want usually sell out before I get a chance to get one, mostly. :) And the last book I got that took longer than expected to sell out - a lettered edition from another publisher - turned out to not be that great of an investment.

Well no, not purely for investment purposes. I generally only buy books I really want. But when a book costs that much, it is an investment. Sometimes I have to sell a book to be able to afford something I want more, and if it's not even worth what I paid for it, it's kind of disappointing. (Or in the case of the book I alluded to, it was disappointing just to see it was less than the quality I expected for the price paid when I received it.)

Edited to add an afterthought: My wife thinks every book that costs more than $10 is expensive, so every book I buy is an investment.

I remember when Brother didn’t sell out and was available for the longest time…now, I would say it’s ‘fortunes’ have changed.

I collect these books because of their artistry ‘en totale’…

Everyone is free to collect for whatever reasons they wish, but I also agree with above poster(s)…to collect as an investment is a risky proposition.

Two words you used earlier puzzled me (worries and investment). I have a better understanding of your thought process now. Thank you. You and I have very different mindsets but neither is right or wrong. I buy buy books I want to collect with no thoughts of selling them down the line. I have $40 limited editions I could not get $10 for and a few books I could get over $1,000 for. I enjoy watching the market on the books I own but it never concerns me. Personally I think buying the books you 'want' will work against wanting books that appreciates in value more often than not. On the wife front. For a long time whenever my wife saw me going through books she wad excitedly ask me if I was selling them. Always to be disappointed with my answer. She finally gave up and began suggesting additional ways to display books in the house. I have books in every room in the house that does not have running water. Best wife ever!

I continue to be impressed with the quality of the artist editions Paul and team put out. I received the artist edition of Replay today and it's a beautiful edition. I love the feel and look of the thick cloth boards. Everything about the production just feels substantial and very well made. Suntup's artist editions could pass for numbered editions from other publishers. I highly recommend getting it if you haven't already.

Man, the cover on the lettered edition of Hex is extremely cool. For just a second, I thought that was the numbered edition. The hand made paper on the numbered is still very cool, but the stitches on the lettered... Kudos to whoever it was that predicted the stitches in the lettered edition on yesterday's Facebook live! I don’t know anything about “tickets”, but if I’m understanding it, you have rights to two numbered editions of Hex and you’d like to make sure the December book is matched to the lower number. I’m going to assume you purchased one directly, and the other copy was purchased on the secondary market. You will likely only receive one email, but when you place your order for the next book, it would be best to send us an email requesting that you are designated the lower of the two numbers, and I will make sure that happens. I hope that answers the question.

It does. I was already on the 350 train, I bought the last 3 from you (Collecter being the last). Today I got Hex from you because my Collector is above number 250. Bought at 9:00:20 am, I was fast. So I have two rights, one numbered below 250 via Hex. One numbered above 250 via The Collector.

Okay, makes sense. And yeah, that was fast! So just order 1 copy of the December book, and I will match it to the lower number. Keep in mind that you will give up the higher number and the lower one will be you number going forward. Just send me an email through the contact form so I can make sure you end up with the correct designation.

Just to add to Paul's comment and make it 100% clear, there is only ONE designation that you have rights to, even if you have purchased additional books on the after market. There is no concept of rights for 1-250 and separate rights for >250. BY default, if you have more than 1 designation (of the previous book) registered to you, you will be matched to your lowest designation.

Wolfen is one of those works (I think Paul has found a few) where it's actually not that easy to find an ordinary copy of it at the time of the Suntup release. While some might say that's a misread of the market, I think it's the opposite - he identifies works that retain significance despite having left the mainstream conversation (not everything worthwhile leaves a crater) and about which the reading and publication worlds could use a reminder of, or reintroduction to, and his productions of things like Wolfen does that.

Kudos!

They don't make them like that anymore. The 80s were a great time for horror flicks. The Wolfen was far from perfect but it had Albert Finney and that unbelievable bombed out look of NYC in the late 1970s. Many people likely don't remember it now, but parts of NYC at the time resembled Germany after WWII. And who could forget Edward James Olmos naked and running around like a wolf? I wish I could.

Yes, there were a lot of fun horror movies in the '80s. I don't know how many times I've watched The Hunger.

I didn't get to NYC until 1985, but even then, Times Square and 42nd St. were still, uh, interesting :) If you ever read Ray Garton's intro to the Centipede Press edition of Live Girls where he talks about going to Show World, well, I had exactly the same experience! Coming from a country that was still locked down by the clergy, NYC was an eye-opener.

A HOLIDAY GIFT FROM SUNTUP EDITIONS
In 2019, as a holiday gift to our most loyal customers, we gave away a letterpress printed broadside featuring the final words from The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Last year, we produced a special ARC of The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, which had many of our customers names printed in the back. This year, as a holiday gift, we are putting together an art portfolio featuring one illustration from each of our titles announced in 2021. In addition to this, we are commissioning one of your favorite artists, Jason Mowry, who previously illustrated our edition of Red Dragon, to create an original piece just for this portfolio, which he will sign. The art portfolio will also include a cover sheet noting the limitation, which I will sign.

To qualify for this free holiday gift, you must have purchased at least 10 books during 2021. It could be any edition of any title. If you purchase 10 or more books before December 31st, 2021, you will automatically receive the gift.

We anticipate this to go out to about 500-600 customers. This is my way of thanking the loyal customers of Suntup Editions for all of their support throughout the year. We could not do any of what we do without you. Thank you, and happy holidays!

Pure hypothesis on my side, but I would say that anybody interested in getting a (signed) numbered edition of Hannibal (Thomas Harris), should now be getting a numbered edition of "The Butcher Boy". While it's still available
Why?

If I am not mistaken, Suntup's "Red Dragon" was the january 2020 title. "Silence of the lambs" was the january 2021 title. And while I can't guarantee the january 2022 will be "Hannibal" it would make sense...

'Lord of the Flies' had occurred to me as well. I ultimately guessed 'Animal Farm' instead due to the description of the Feb title as a 'fable' and arguably Orwell is more influential as a novelist than Golding.

We will announce our final book of the year on Thursday, March 10th at 9 a.m. PT

We have an incredible year full of surprises lined up for 2022.
I think that was supposed be to be "quarter", because below that is a paragraph that said
"We have an incredible year full of surprises lined up for 2022. We have been working on most of these books for over a year now, and I am excited to share them with you."
So, I just think it was a typo.

I guessed Slaughter House 5 because of the WWII reference. But, that will hopefully come sometime this year. And SH5 seemed more of a war
story when compared to Animal Farm which is more "political" in nature. But as I said, I would be happy with either :).

I have a different guess for February, though i'm probably wrong here. 😅

February; William Golding - Lord of the Flies, which ultimately became a bestseller in both Britain and the United States after more than twenty publishers rejected it.

'Lord of the Flies' had occurred to me as well. I ultimately guessed 'Animal Farm' instead due to the description of the Feb title as a 'fable' and arguably Orwell is more influential as a novelist than Golding.

That could very well be true but it would be ironic if it were to be published because Golding considered Lord of the Flies a fable. 😉

Could also be a cut and paste error, as the paragraph is almost verbatim the paragraph for December in the September announcement, with only dates changed and one sentence clause deleted.

Love the idea of The Handmade's Tale.

It's a typo. Should be quarter!
