My first FB live with Paul! Normally I can't make it but I'm glad I was able to see one!
I just have to say what a generous person to have constant giveaways and seeing people get so excited when they win is half the fun.
Cars are family and I totally get it! I had a 1986 Firebird that went overseas with me in the military and I had her for years after that. Cried when I let her go but she was on her last wheels and we had a good run.

So, is there a general consensus on what the book will be? It looks like perhaps Wolfen is the leader?

On a related note, I'm wondering if the art portfolio will be numbered. I believe all the previous portfolios and paperweights were.

Wow, just got the shipping notice for the Silence of the Lambs Arc, customer loyalty gift.

I was surprised when i first saw it, because I thought it was a normal order shipping notice, and noticed it was addressed to Mike, instead of Michael, which I always use when there is a money transaction involved. I went back and confirmed that I had ordered the Silence of the Lambs AGE with Michael, then I read closer and noticed it was the ARC and not the AGE. Guess I must have used Mike in the form since no finances were involved.

So cool!

My copy of 'Seed' turned up today - in person impressions are pretty well aligned with the mock-ups/photos Suntup had on their site. The Andrea Peterson Indiana corn paper boards are wonderfully textural. I'm hopeful we see more of her papers turn up in future bindings.

The book paper has a glossy texture that isn't my favorite, it's listed as 'Cougar Opaque' - same as Bibliomysteries, but definitely not identical, different variation?

The highlight here though has to be the artwork which is wonderfully surreal and macabre, and stands out nicely in full bleed. Dolce has a style that should work wonderfully for a remarque.

This'll be the first Suntup numbered edition that I cannot financially keep. I didn't get on the train until The Road because I couldn't afford the numbered Horns or Rosemary's Baby at the time (though I did get both on the secondary market). Really bums me out, as it is quite beautiful artwork.

I plan on keeping the AE, but I need to sleep on whether I can afford the portfolio.

Congrats to Paul and the team on another great edition. This'll surely be another sellout!

Wolfen! Great choice. The book is good. The movie is weird in that 80s way but a different story from the book. And it has some great scenery from the unbelievable condition of certain neighborhoods in NYC at that time. Like something out of a bombed out WWII city. Old Albert Finney eating his donuts at the morgue. Edward James Olmos running around naked and howling like a wolf. Hopefully aliens don't abduct Strieber before he signs the books. The Hunger would also make a great choice as well.

My initial thought was to get the book and portfolio and then once in hand sell.

That plan has gone out the window because I've seen how incredible François does remarques and all of a sudden we nabbed the book, portfolio, remarque requested and this one is marked a keeper! haha

I worked with a few of Suntup artists to negotiate the reamarques for the group. The rates have been (give or take) $100ish for a basic B/W to $250 for a decent color. There have been some INSANE ones that top the $500 mark. Whelan was the most I have ever heard of and when he was doing them... they were a Grand + each.

I've had fairly recent Suntup AGEs arrive in three days Media Mail. But the way things are going I paid extra to upgrade a few AGEs not released yet to Priority Mail. It's just kind of a USPS crap shoot right now.

This may have been brought up before, but I'm wondering who keeps their Suntup boxes, and where you store them? Right now I've got mine in a closet, but the space is definitely finite. Once that's gone, there are a couple cubbies where I can stick a few boxes, but after that I may have to put them in our garage attic. I think the cardboard will do fine, but I'm not sure about the foam inserts over time. They would be facing temps of well below 0 F (we hit -35 F this winter) to probably 120 F or more (it gets really hot up there in the summer).

I never thought I'd be a "box collector", but Paul makes these so darn nice I haven't been willing to part with them.

I have mine (as well as Lividian boxes, and a few others), stored in a walk-in attic (near water heater). The door to the attic is in the bedroom I use for my library/study, so it is convenient. I don't have nearly as many as you do. Since I am now just buying the occasional AGE, I shoud be fine, but may eventually have to move to attic above garage, where I imagine the temperature fluctuates a lot more then the current one.

Well, somebody is prepared! Our neighborhood covenant doesn't allow sheds. If they did, I'm afraid I'd have to choose a nice home brewery over box storage. I guess that would free up the small section of basement where my brewery is now.

However unlikely this may be, I feel I should put it out there because you never know. I'm looking for #16 of The Road.

The person who has it may not even want to sell it but I figured I'd try anyway. I didn't jump on the numbered train until Neuromancer and was lucky enough to get #16.

Also, I should add if the person that owns #16 wants the same number for Blood Meridian I would definitely consider selling it to them. Thanks.

Did your tracking information get updated at all before the box delivered? Mine still says "arriving late" as of 02/26, so I'm hoping that it'll hop back on the radar any day now.

My recent shipment from CD said "arriving late" until it was delivered and then they updated it to delivered. It never showed arrival or out for delivery scans.

When I get notified that something important is coming by USPS (like a Suntup book), I go on the USPS dashboard and request all notifications by text. Usually, that gives me good tracking information, including estimated date of arrival, etc. They are not as detailed as UPS, but not bad. Usually I get notified when they get the package, when it arrives at the nearest regional facility, then kind of dead air until it hits our regional facility, our local facility, my nearby post office, out for delivery and finally, delivered.

Seed initially showed everything, including (I think, I've deleted the texts) out for delivery on it's initial estimated delivery date. Then no book and the USPS dashboard just showed the arriving late message. When it finally came, I got three morning texts saying it hit our local facility, nearby post office and it was out for delivery. So, basically nothing until day of delivery. I was also never notified about reaching our regional facility - maybe it bypassed it somehow.

Hopefully yours arrives soon!

I Know he isn't well liked around here, but I have no issue with this. He has a book shop, and selling books is his way of earning a living. I am not going to begrudge him for that. I see that Camelot books is also listed in SOTL. Would they be tools too if they sell their copy? What about this guy? https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Silence-Of-The-Lambs-ARC-Suntup-Press-Rare/265073738931?hash=item3db7a044b3:g:iDAAAOSwsPZgPoE j, looks like his went up for sale a couple of days earlier, so why isn't he a tool?

Agree 100%

I used to be bothered by stuff like this. But it’s a waste of energy and none of my business. Until someone tries selling my books I don’t care what they do with theirs. Someone might have a completely heartbreaking reason for parting what they consider a treasure or it might be pure money chasing. It’s all between the seller and buyer.

With the next announcement coming up, and the current thinking on the likely title, I've been revisiting some other McCarthy work. One particular favorite, is the directors cut of the critically panned film 'The Counselor'. While revisiting a couple scenes on YouTube, it - in it's never ending search for engagement - recommended a Yale lecture on 'Blood Meridian'. For fans of the novel this is worth a watch. While it does cover some territory I was familiar with, it brought up plenty of new insights for me as well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgyZ4ia25gg&list=PLE33BCD966FF96F23&index=17

I like having Cormac's words and my visions from them in my mind more than someone else's interpretation.

It really isn't the easiest of reads, I'll grant that (there is a bit of the stream of consciousness Faulkner and others made so famous in Cormac's writing) but after my first go round, I had to go back twice. There's so much that is missed in that first reading because the storytelling is so dense but once you get his rhythm and style on your palate it's impossible to taste anything better. I've said if before but I believe Cormac to be the greatest living American writer.

I read Child of God in one sitting and felt queasy afterwards because I had no idea what the book was about.

Suttree Country is his funniest work and I will never look at a pumpkin patch the same way again.

In no way are Joyce Carol Oates' styles and Cormac's approaching similarity but both are fearless in their subject matter and both are capable of giving me the willies without utilizing the supernatural.

OK, enough babbling from me tonight.

I need to finish more other stuff then I will did into more of his stuf. But I am really excited about announcement next week.

Tommy, it sounds like you're a reader who loves to linger over a sentence or paragraph that moves you. That's my kinda reader.

Yeah, only problem is my eyesight is bad and getting worse so very limited reading time. I wish I had read a lot more in life.

Cormac is worth the eye strain!

I suffered a detached retina a couple of years ago (I was only 35 at the time so VERY YOUNG for those types of things) and my reading isn't what it used to be either, sadly. Audiobooks have become great friends of mine.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Mine was a birth condition that makes my eyes jut back and forth with no control over them. Until I was 17, I had to hold my head at an angle so that they wouldn't "dance" as the doctors put it (they used me as a teaching tool for some of the potential new eye doctors). Eye surgery is not fun. I had black demon eyes for days and couldn't go outside for weeks because of the Sun. But I was able to hold my head straight after that. They still dance but only when I look to my right. Throws my balance off (stairs and ladders are not my friends and people love to watch others run into things so I've helped spread joy in the world by injuring myself many times, that's something I guess) and also I can instantly and out of nowhere have tears streaming down my face, they told me that would be a side effect and boy they weren't kidding!. I hate audiobooks, I keep trying but ugh, I miss reading big thick good books.

Wow, that sounds so traumatic -- more so for someone so young at the time. I wish there was an alternative you enjoyed though. Audiobooks have been such a saving grace for me. Sometimes I prefer them....

Tommy, sorry to hear about that issue and how it affects your reading. I agree with Dolan, audiobooks are great. People think they are easier than reading paper but for complex writing, I had to work to make the adjustment and still do at times. They command more active attention than some may realize. Hope this option works out for you when needed.

Damn Tommy. Very sad to read about your condition. I don't remember but when I was sick at 9, I was blind for a while. But my sight is fine now. I know the struggle of balance though. You probably read it, but read the first post in my thread. It explains what happened to me. I wish you well my friend.

I don’t believe I sent an update saying LTROI Numbered was complete. At least not the bookbinding. The cases, yes. Those are done. I’m waiting on the books. These are roughly 4-6 weeks out for completion.

For the Heinlein AE’s, the books are finished and have been for a while, but we have been waiting on the slipcases to arrive so that the books can be inserted. That has now happened and the process of building boxes, inserting foam, etc. will begin soon. These will ship in roughly 4-5 weeks, hopefully sooner.

The Heinlein Numbered editions are completely done and would have shipped this week, but we ran into a snag with the cases on Starship. We have to remake the whole run because I wasn’t happy with the fit. So these are primed for shipment next, as soon as the second batch of cases come in. I’m driving the case maker hard to get them finished as soon as possible. I hope to ship these books in 3-4 weeks.

1984 Numbered books and cases are complete and the custom foam has already been ordered. I plan to ship this one immediately after the Heinlein books.

The way I see this going is that we will be shipping the Heinlein Numbered first, then the Heinlein AE’s, followed by 1984 Numbered, and then possibly LTROI Numbered.

In the middle of all this, there is also the Auctioneer and Scanner AE’s which are almost complete, as well as the Lettered Auctioneer.

RF, hopethis is ok to post here...

I have loved The War of the Worlds since i was a young boy of 10 years old.

Getting a signed limited last year was an amazing achievement, including the extras showing Jeff Waynes art from his musical version.

This was the start of my love of War of the Worlds, that really captured my imagination, played by my teacher Keith Gardnar on his tape cassette over 4 lessons.

Loved it.

Anyway, i have been searching for a signed version of the musical to accompany/complete my Suntup HG Wells collection.

Today I received an email from the War of the Worlds Immersive Experience, which I am attending later this year, and they are selling a signed litho print of the album, signed by Jeff Wayne.

I wanted to share how happy I am at ordering one, and add the link for those who may want one to accompany your book. 250 only available, and honestly, this has made my day. I have been planning to stalk Jeff Wayne so i could send my extra part of the book for a signature, but get this for £30.

Very happy.

It would be awesome. If that is who it is. I don't see this making it to public presale on Sat. Really though, I am anxious about the design of the book. It is great that McCarthy, who seems to be a recluse has allowed 2 of his books to be done this way. Assuming we are all correct.

With all this Blood Meridian conjecture I finally went and looked it up (have never heard of it other than the mentions here, never read it). Judging from the summary it honestly doesn't sound like something I'd even be remotely interested in; historical western fiction is probably an acquired taste. The first thing that popped into my head was that story Drew Larson was writing in "The Rat"!

I'm sure it'll be a great book, and sounds like a whole lotta folks are really excited about it. I'm still keeping fingers crossed for Calvin & Hobbes though.

What they said. It doesn't even feel like a Western to me. Parts of it are pure horror that just happened to be set many moons ago. It's an anti-Western in some ways. It's incredibly violent and has one of the most terrifying characters ever in it.

Just to give an example of it's brutality, there is one scene where characters come across a tree with 8 dead babies impaled through their chins on branches. Cormac has a theme of dead babies throughout most of his work.

I'll remove that spoiler if anyone wants me to.

This article is well researched (SPOILERS AGAIN). It deals with the symbolism of the number 8 in Blood Meridian. All purely conjecture of course and a little wacky but some of it is fascinating, to me at least.

The Significance of The Number 8 In Blood Meridian (http://williamwickey.com/number-8-in-blood-meridian/)

Like this writer says, each read of the book finds me discovering a new theme, motif or just plain weirdness.

I love King. I love McCarthy. The thought of King writing an intro to Blood Meridian is completely inappropriate and wouldn't make sense to me at all. Again - I LOVE both authors, but no one will ever put McCarthy and King in the same classification. Ever.

People that would be more in line for an introduction to this book would be Marilynne Robinson, Margaret Atwood, Alice Munroe, Salman Rushdie, or J.M. Coetzee. Even Barbara Kingsolver is appropriate.

Again, I really don't care who writes the intro. It would just be a surprise that's all. I don't buy the books because of the sigs. I buy the books because they are all books that interest
me and Paul has done outstanding jobs with all the books I have bought so far. TBH, my only experience with McCarthy are the movies The Road and No Country for old Men.
Some of the best movies I have ever seen. I am looking forward to reading McCarthy though.

I mean I dont understand why folks are freaking over a possible King signature of an introduction. If that happened and was surprise revealed i sure it would be a bonus to every numbered rights holder. I would think that It would not follow the path of Misery. It is not a Stephen King S/N LE of one of his own books.

I guess if they dont have a number I can understand the angst.

Trust me, my hope was not based on anything appropriate.

Is there anybody here would think about putting a re-marque in a numbered version? Or would you guys only do that in an AE.

I have a remarque in my #'d edition of HORNS (also the portfolio). Also plan on remarques in my #'d editions of SEED, THE EXORCIST, THE WOLFEN, and (god willing) BLOOD MERIDIAN.

Just depends on your preference.

Thanks.
You think there will be one for The Exorcist? The Wolfen would be my first one that I get. It's too late for Seed though since I already have it. But an Exorcist might be cool also. And maybe BM. Of course
it's all price dependent.

I've been in touch with the artist of Excorist and he's doing it. Not sure what you mean by it's too late for Seed, I'm sure the artist is still doing work; if you reach out to the artists they will quote you prices. The problem is generally shipping. I paid about $250 for shipping alone to get my HORNS remarque done. The Exorcist artist is in Spain, so that's going to be pricey, also. Something like this is not for the budget conscious.

Yea. You're probably right. I may not do them then. I have a quote for The Wolfen but that is minus shipping. Maybe this is not for me.

I have only gotten 1 remarque for Suntup editions, and that was for the Numbered Missery. Mostly because I think that is the only one I remember having seen offered from Suntup directly. Never done a remarque directly with the artist (for any publisher)

For CD books, I do it for numbered and lettered (SK books only) but never gifts. Maybe I am the opposite of other people?

This is just an absolute amazing production, Paul, Becca, and team!I'm in heaven over this release and thrilled to know I'll have a matching set of Suntup McCarthys. The Road is the book that nailed my feet to the floor and Blood Meridian rewards that loyalty tenfold.

I do have to ask if the binding on the numbered is the same as the Coptic binding on the lettered edition of The Road. I see you've described it differently as "butterfly sewing" and not Coptic so I'm assuming there is a significant difference. To be completely honest, I'm nervous about handling this book because I'm about the most graceless, clumsy creature prowling the earth.

ANOTHER OBSERVATION (I know, I'm insufferable): I think it's really interesting that Cormac's name doesn't appear on the cover and Blood Meridian is in the reverse on the back cover.

Love this edition! I'm a lucky man to still have an invitation to this party and a ticket on this train. If nothing else, I'll always have these books.

The only remarque I ever got all on my own was a Bob Eggleton in my copy of Necroscope The Plague Bearer. The other ones have been through CD in my DoubleDay AEs and from Jason Mowry in my Red Dragon AGE. I would have loved to have gotten a Dolce remarque iin my copy of Seed!! Or a Potts remarque for my copy of The Exorcist. But the tide's gone out and I have to conserve.

I did reach out to Richey Beckett for a remarque to tip in to my Rosemary's Baby but he had no availability.

The Lettered BM looks fantastic. Not a big fan of the Numbered, though. The spine design is interesting but it looks very fragile.

I want to congratulate the team as well. To put this effort into a numbered book is so fantastic for those of us who can not get a lettered book.
Then we have Mon with the new quarter. I wonder if the Suntup team would attempt something like this again. I know it's a lot, but the quality
is clearly evident BRAVO.

I actually don’t know what her involvement is in Blood Meridian but she’s a member of the creative team and is often credited on the limitation page alongside Jerry Kelly and Paul.

Agree. It will be the nicest book in my collection for some time to come. Although I wouldn’t put it past Paul and team to produce something beyond this.

Okay - well since you asked... Blood Meridian is known for its level of gore and violence -- which isn't entirely off brand from Bret Easton Ellis. So it's of the same vein, but I wouldn't classify BEE the caliber of author of CMC. It makes total sense, though.

This raises an interesting question: do publishers consider the opinion of the author in choosing contributors such as the writer of an introduction? It would feel awkward if, for example, McCarthy thought little of BEE.

IMO, if the author turns down the option to write his/her own introduction, they turn down the right to control who authors that introduction.
