Paul, one quick question. Can someone who purchased prints individually buy a subscription afterwards but without having to buy repeated prints?

Yes, no problem. It will start with the next available print that you don’t have. You won’t end up with duplicates.

Rob Wood has kept an extensive file of his early sketches, cover concepts and reference material. So essentially, the surprise was getting a first look at some of these items. We also showed two of the original cover paintings.

That was an incredible video with Bob Jackson, Paul. Thank you both! That basement has pretty much everything a Stephen King collector could desire. Glad we got such a detailed tour. Really quite something to see those "holy grail" books opened up and discussed. Much better than looking at standard stock photos and filling in the blanks with your imagination!

Glad you enjoyed it Zidan.

Yep, the Firestarter print is fantastic Richard. One of my favorites. The different colored eyes is interesting.

On a related note, for those who watched the video, I mentioned that we couldn’t find a slide or scan of the original Cujo art. It was an issue because the scan I had for testing was from the jacket and did not reproduce well. I have always been optimistic that it would turn up.

While I was there, we spent some time searching through boxes and cabinets, but we didn’t find anything.

Then the day after I left, I got an email from Steve saying he found the slide which was made from the original! So the final print will now be the best reproduction we have seen of the Cujo cover.

A NICE surprise (though hinted at) print today! This is the copy of The Shining that I read for my first time some 3 decades ago or more!

I'm looking forward to receiving it. I would suspect that this print in particular would not stand up to being tubed by it's owners. Do you know if that's true? Does the foil buckle? Thanks for making this one, Paul!

jsmcmullen92

We have some great news to share! Not only are we shipping the beautiful Firestarter print to pre-orders and subscribers, but we also have a very special surprise print for you.

When Elizabeth Rayne published this article about The Covers Collection on SYFYWIRE, she ended the post with a very interesting comment:

"Also, note to Paul: if you are somehow able to morph that 1978 reflective silver cover of The Shining into poster form, I will worship you forever."

Well, how could I not take on a challenge like that!? I got to work, and wouldn't you know it, I made it happen! I am really excited to announce this very unique BONUS PRINT to The Covers Collection.

We have reproduced the cover of the FIRST PAPERBACK EDITION OF THE SHINING, right down to the silver reflective paper!

This print is unique in that it is not printed on the standard art paper as the rest of the line. This is beautifully printed on a special metallic reflective paper, just like on the original paperback.

I got my Large "The Shining" paperback print safe and sound. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it has a glassine protector and I didn't want to unpack it further until I have a frame to put it in so I didn't get a chance to see EXACTLY how glorious it was, but I was absolutely giddy seeing that graphic blown up to poster size.

Thanks Paul. It is so obvious to tell when a producer is doing items as a labor of love. Really TOP NOTCH!

12-06-2017, 09:02 AM
My posters just arrived and I couldn't be happier with them!

This edition will always stand out to me in a big way: it was the first Stephen King book I ever saw. My older brother had this edition and left it in my room when he finished it (on purpose or not, I don't know). I had never heard of the author (I was probably 10-ish) and the book itself was like a little treasure that I kept - a shiny tome from my much-admired big brother. At the time, it seemed daunting, so I didn't read it. However, about a year later or so, I read IT for the first time, fell in love with SK, and then remembered that I had tucked this book away in a drawer, dug it out, and read it. I know that a lot of it went over my head because it didn't seem scary at the time compared to IT, which was much more visceral.

Over the years, I ended up reading that copy over and over, and it still sits in my collection, beaten and weathered and taped back together :)

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/984/medium/IMG_4570.JPG

I'm so happy to have the poster, one for me, and one for my big brother for xmas

Thank you, Paul!!

Now over to the King Books/Items Wanted thread to see if someone will sell me a mint copy of the book...

Speaking of which, has anyone seen La Mante on Netflix?

I've seen it (2 days before SK recommended it). First two episodes were great... at the end of the fourth we already knew who was the killer (but I admit we didn't know WHY). 5/10

PS.
Carole Bouquet is superb

Agreed about Bouquet -- she reminds me of Charlotte Rampling. Her last moment paid off all that iciness.

There were some pretty broad King-film homages, from a village named Miserey to the sledge hammer scene to the Kubrick camera angles near the end, with the axe.

I had a few issues with the plot (I did not buy the bug dropping pill AT ALL), and I suspected the uber-monster (him, not her) from early, for various reasons, but I enjoyed it mostly. I'd give it a solid 7.

I’m leaning towards a portfolio type thing too, but the Suntup Press website does say...

“We publish fine press limited edition books which combine beautiful typographic design, letterpress printing, commissioned artwork and the finest bookmaking materials.”

What art is there in Misery other than the cover? I just flipped through my copy and saw no art throughout the book. He already published the cover so I would think it would either be commissioned art based on the book or a limited edition of the book.

The $15/mo x 12mo/yr x 480yrs @ a total of $86,400 is worked on the premise of buying 24 Lettered copies.

$86,400 ÷ 24 = $3,600

Which means $3,600 is the individual cost of each Lettered copy.

You were "off a few years", eh?

The actual dictionary definition of "a few" is, "not many but more than one." So, "a few" cannot be one, but it can be as low as two.

If you were off by as many as five years, it would equate to a difference in price by +/- $900.

$15/mo x 12mo = $180 per year.

This is a great news!

ABOUT THE EDITION
The Signed Limited Edition of Misery is published in three states: An Artist Gift edition, a Numbered edition and a Lettered edition. All three oversized editions measure 7.5” x 10.5”, and feature eight new full-color illustrations by Rick Berry, whose critically acclaimed work includes the Donald M. Grant editions of The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

ARTIST GIFT EDITION
Signed by Rick Berry, the slipcased Artist Gift edition features a dust jacket with stunning wrap-around artwork by Berry. It is a smyth-sewn binding with full imperial cloth, two-hits stamping on front and spine, and is offset printed on Mohawk Superfine Eggshell paper. The gift edition will be highly limited for a Stephen King book, and is the only edition of the three with the wrap-around dust jacket art.

NUMBERED EDITION
The Numbered edition is limited to 200 copies, and is signed by Stephen King and Rick Berry. The first 185 copies are for sale and numbered in black. The remaining 15 copies are numbered in red and reserved for private distribution. It is a full Japanese cloth, smyth-sewn binding featuring a blind stamped front cover, and a leather spine label stamped in 22K gold leaf. The edition is printed letterpress on Cranes Lettra Pearl White cotton paper, and housed in a custom clamshell box.

LETTERED EDITION
The Lettered edition is limited to 26 copies for sale lettered A-Z, and is signed by Stephen King and Rick Berry. It is printed letterpress on moldmade Arches wove paper with a deckled fore edge, and handbound in full crimson goatskin leather. Endpapers are marbled, and made exclusively for this edition. The binding is sewn and rounded with a hollow back designed to prevent sagging fo the page block.

The edition includes an original frontispiece print pulled from a wood engraving by renowned illustrator and designer Barry Moser. The print is limited to 26 copies and is signed by Barry Moser. The title is made using six original Royal glass typewriter keys which are inset into the cover, and the letter designation is a Royal key inset into the lower back cover.

The book is housed in a handmade walnut wood box designed to resemble an original Royal Model 10 packing crate. The case is laser engraved, and features a black suede-lined book bed.

That’s how I read it and had the same reaction! The Lettered portfolio was amazing enough, and now being able to match the letter for Misery is extra awesome.

This looks like it’s going to be a once in a lifetime type production and I could not be more excited!!!

I’m super tempted to see if I could figure out how to swing a lifetime subscription...

OK. I was not sure from the video. If you stop the vid at 1:05 you see the book in front of the case and on the right you see what looks like a box top with misery type writer letters. What is that?

We put off doing the backyard last summer - might need to delay that a little longer as well - don’t tell my wife. Although I did soften the blow by actually discussing the cost (that’s a first) as well as comparing to lettered regulators and show her the portfolios - transparency (to a point) might be best - too good to pass up - another day to contemplate

Why is no one talking about the penguin? I seriously want one of those! Along with a numbered edition

I hadn't previously gotten the EOTD portfolio only because I don't have the disposable income for everything. I had to opt out of Rebound because I couldn't swing IT. However, I REALLY want this. If I am reading everyone's comments correctly, if I buy EOTD I will get an early link for Misery? Or is this for people who have already bought it? I did go back and read the email carefully and it looks as if you can still purchase EOTD and get an early link but I need someone to 'splain please before I spend the extra $$
Thank you.

As I uderstand... people who bought numbers 1-185 od EOTD will be first to match their number... then MAYBE those with higher numbers - because EOTD portfolio was limited to 300.

Up until now I think the only other serious player in the ultra-deluxe book market was Charnel House, and once in awhile Earthling, and at one book in he has matched (or even exceeded) that bar. And seeing as Charnel House is mostly Dean Koontz and Earthing's best stuff has been Clive Barker (and the one Dan Simmons) I think he's going to bring the market to a greater number of collectors, as well.

Jeremy, the porfolio shipping cost was around 25 bucks inside USA, so I'd guess international shipping should be around 2.5-3x the price.

Someone pointed out Charnel House...and I couldn't agree more. The first thing crossing my mind after seeing the picture of the lettered was that The Regulators finally had a "competitor" in terms of epicness. :excited:
