Also the decision to publish an AGE of this one had nothing to do with the idea for that reversible jacket. But you are right on one point, I don’t F around.

Man, that pallet looks filled to the edges. A lot of stuff wrapped in those brown wrappers. It's plain to see the work that goes into the entire project. And the reversible DJ's are really cool as well.

Well since no one asked, here's what I think--this is the book that Paul is only releasing as a lettered edition. With numbers that go up to 13 and sets of A and B--that equals 26.

You're very kind Kris! Although that's not entirely accurate. One publisher that comes to mind is Jerad at Centipede who produces books ahead of announcing. He's a machine that guy.

Seriously, I would LOVE for someone to write a publisher's tell-all book. Interviews with you and Chizmar and BJF and Jerad and Chris Morey and William Schafer and Paul Fry and Paul Miller and Paul Goblirsch and anyone else I'm missing. All so we can find out who the total jerks are, which books were the missed opportunities, what life is like trying to price things, what caused a house to fall, and all the dirt. We'll call it DEADLINE. And it'll be loaded with images of books that died on the vine and the most ambitious plans yet to be realized. And it'll be signed by the publishers.

I could only be higher if it were the Red Horns or Paul slipped me a Lettered! Paul loved this book way before I even knew who Hill was. So I can't take credit for that lol. Paul is credited with sending me down the Hill rabbit hole as he suggested this be my first Hill read. I read the book in three days I think which is something I've never done with any book. This edition is definitely the pride of my collection.

Exact same situation for me. When the word was out that this new publisher (new to me) was doing an edition of MISERY I immediately marked my calendar. That's the King book I've re-read the most. Up there with IT and THE STAND. I had to have it. And when I saw the treatment it was getting I was over the moon. IF NOT FOR A BROWSER INCOMPATIBILITY, I would be the thrilled owner of the numbered edition. Missed it by seconds. Since then, every book Paul's announced has been brand new to me. Except THE ROAD. But I've tried to buy them all. Because this is all really something special.

Jeff.... did you open it???????????

Nope. I read Paul's revelation that all envelopes were purposefully left open as I was walking to work. As that envelope is a work day and a train ride away. And now I am smoldering with curiosity. I'm sure it's just a freak occurrence. It was very humid when my package was delivered and it rained so maybe the moisture in the air caused the envelope to seal itself. Or maybe I was mistaken and just one spot of the envelope became adhered or something. I'll watch the tape and see what I see.

Because there's no way I'm going to be able to cut that envelope open. But if mine is the only one sealed there's no way I can't cut that envelope open.

Yeah, that's what I assumed was in there. And with pics on the product page, there really is no need to destroy such a lovely envelope just to get my fingerprints all over the beautiful art. Better to keep everything in mint condition.

Anyone else who got the #ed can you look at the art piece pasted to the page behind the signatures, is that piece only attached on 3 corners for you guys? Mine is glued down but only on 3 corners allowing it to flap around. I'm a little worried it might accidentally get dog eared or messed up in some way while reading/flipping through the book.

Josh that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be. Technically the preferred and accepted method is to stick it down vertically along the gutter side only. I’m not mad about that way because then you have the opposite side which will flap open and away from the page. So it’s accepted practice to add a single small dot of glue at one corner.

I received a gift edition order on Saturday. That was a nice surprise since it wasn't expected until today. Beautiful edition. It is really a magnificent publication.

I received the numbered yesterday. The snakeskin spine is amazing. It is rough as hell if you stroke up on it. It is as smooth as a baby's bottom if you stroke down. The slipcase is really cool. The whole production is amazing.

This will look good next to Misery and The Haunting of Hill House.

Now that more and more people are vigorously stroking their snake, do we have to worry about the scales flaking off, or is the material too strong for that?

Piling on that question, I was wondering if we needed to treat the spine with anything like oils or such.

I hear salivating works well.

I’m not an expert on this but it’s highly doubtful the scales will flake off. And I don’t really know anything about the need to treat the spine. I would say not.

Isn't it clear what's inside?

Included with every order of the Numbered and Lettered editions is this limited promotional artwork kit, showcasing some of the gorgeous illustrations from Magdalena Kaczan. Included is a full-color 6″ x 9″ print, a 4″ x 6″ postcard and a deluxe, oversized UV coated 2.5″ x 8.5″ bookmark, all packed inside a gold metallic printed envelope.

Of course, it could be a live snake in there, pissed as all hell and demanding to know what happened to its brothers.

...Open it!

Yeah, that's what I assumed was in there. And with pics on the product page, there really is no need to destroy such a lovely envelope just to get my fingerprints all over the beautiful art. Better to keep everything in mint condition.

UPDATE: I opened the envelope and a cloud of white dust puffed up. I gasped in surprise and pulled in a good amount of that dust. Enough of it. Inside the 'velope was a note that read, "You are infected. If you don't do exactly as instructed you will die. Tic Toc Jeff." Then my cell phone rang and I heard screaming. A computer altered voice that was both male and female said "Film yourself eating your books. Start with Horns. When you're done with Horns you'll get a sample of the antidote--enough to delay the effects of the poison. You'll get more antidote the more books you eat." I laughed and hung up and had a burrito.

REAL UPDATE: the envelope wasn't sealed. It was just lightly stuck in a couple of spots. I opened it gently without tearing anything. You can all exhale now.

Paul, I just opened my numbered edition of Horns. Wow. I’m luckily an owner of the numbered edition of Misery, which is a gorgeous book in its own right, but this one is double gorgeous. This is one I’ll be showing to family & friends due to the sheer beauty of the design. This edition of Horns is now the nicest numbered edition I own (and I own a few Charnel House Limiteds amongst others).

Got my limited Horns today - it’s incredible. This is quality in a numbered edition that most publishers couldn’t even touch in a lettered edition. Between this and the numbered Misery...wow. I’m heading home on Sunday so I hope the post lady hasn’t tried to deliver my artist edition yet. Really looking forward to this one!

I am not really collecting anymore but since I already had a copy of the Misery AE in my hands (and a copy of the Horns AE on order) when I sold my collection, I decided to make an exception for Suntup and keep a small AE collection going (even though not all books are getting the AE treatment, unfortunately). Looking forward to many more great productions!

Yeah I was looking at my book more closely and I couldn’t help wondering if the book was supposed to be this awesome or is it just mine? Anyone else notice this about theirs? Every time I take it out of the slipcase it strikes me. It’s impossible not to see it. I mean, I’m not complaining! I just finished it and I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe even 4.5. It’s dark and tense and a bit claustrophobic. The blood serves the story instead of having the story as an excuse to deliver blood. I was worried based on other reviews that this was “torture porn” and after reading it that’s laughable. I have no idea why people would react that way. So if that’s a concern for anyone it shouldn’t be. OFF SEASON and the sequel OFFSPRING by Ketchum were far more brutal.

This is a fantastic read and it’s brilliantly done. I can see why Paul picked it. And I have a much greater appreciation for that artwork after reading it. I think this edition will be among my most favorites.

It’s pretty good but it’s hard for me to go into specifics without spoilers. It’s kind of like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre film told from the perspective of the family. It gets pretty grisly but not overtly so. It’s not as graphic as something like Off Season but it feels like something Jack Ketchum would have written. It’s a very dark novel. It kind of reminded me of a famous film in some spots but saying what film it might give a few things away.

Finally got around to watching the movie Horns last night in celebration of Paul's release. I was really underwhelmed and glad I'd already read the book.

I'll never understand why they didn't do a better job on this movie! From what I recall, there were a lot of small things where they deviated from the book and didn't need to. Or that were much better expressed in the book. It wasn't like some novel -> movie translations where they have to cut half of the plot out to make it shorter, or cut characters or anything - they did a fine job with that stuff, I just really feel like they could have done what they did, but better.

It seemed like such a straightforward book to make into a movie that when my wife asked if she should read the book first, I foolishly told her "no". Now I can't get her to read the book :(

WHY THE HELL do they do that?? It's a simple thing to make it an afterword. In the intro, I'd rather have someone talk about what the experience of the book meant to them. Or talk about the book's impact on culture. Things that are a lot less specific to the plot or details.

I agree, I seem to recall the same issue with HHH, which I read about 2 or 3 years ago. I seem to recall a book which Stephen King introduced in which he gave away too much, but I can't recall the book (or maybe I didn't actually read the book, and only the introduction??)

EDIT: I think it was the introduction to "The Girl next door" which was included in the "Secret Window, Essays and Fiction on the craft of writing". Never read the book, but I remember thinking, wow, this would really piss me off if I read all this before I started reading the book.

WHY THE HELL do they do that?? It's a simple thing to make it an afterword. In the intro, I'd rather have someone talk about what the experience of the book meant to them. Or talk about the book's impact on culture. Things that are a lot less specific to the plot or details.

I could not agree more.

Particularly with a book like HHH (which I've just finished, coincidentally), where giving away the ending is a criminal offense. (Great book, by the way - highly recommend it)

HBJ

I agree, I seem to recall the same issue with HHH, which I read about 2 or 3 years ago. I seem to recall a book which Stephen King introduced in which he gave away too much, but I can't recall the book (or maybe I didn't actually read the book, and only the introduction??)

And since I don't know which way the writer is going to go (spoilers or no) I just avoid intros altogether.

**EDIT** until after I read the main text.

St. Troy

I always read the intros after I read the book. I don’t want anything flavoring my read.

Yep. Nothing worse than, just before your first read of Frankenstein or Dracula or what have you, before you get to the main event and experience the entertainment for yourself, you learn all the major plot points and symbolism etc. along with what everyone in the last 150 years thought of it. It might be a good idea for an English 101 class, but that's it.

Oh yea. Been sold out for a while. This is just my opinion, so I hope I don't get bitch slapped, but the price for the limited was just too much for some people who were on the limited track so they dropped that. Once a GE was announced all those people jumped on it, especially since it had that awesome DJ and there were only 500 of them. So it gave those people a chance to get something. Coming right after Horns, I am sure this was hard for some people so that's
why IMHO the GE sold out.

If anyone knows of a way to limit the number of emails that end up in a spam folder, I’m all ears. There are certain ‘tricks’ we have used, but there has not been a silver bullet solution. A good percentage of the emails we send are not even opened. And our average is actually way better than the industry average. It might just be something that has no definitive solution. Which brings me back to my long standing opinion that email is one of the least effective ways to engage an audience.

So you get informed about when emails are opened? Normally if a email software gives the option of not acknowledging receipt of an email, then I choose that option. I like plausible deniability (and privacy). I don't think my main personal email has that feature, but I believe I have disabled "read" notifications on my work email. (need to double check that)

I use Mailchimp which provides repots on open rates. For example, on email ABC your open rate was 48%. Meaning 52% of the emails were sent, but never opened. My guess is that the majority ended up in spam, so they are never seen.

No they did not. If it was an hour it was a long time. But does that mean that these "extras" will add to the total up to 255 for sale instead of 250? I mean, not that I care for value. It just great that 5 were found and bought. I wonder

After a shipment, it is normal for some extra copies to remain. The editor often reserves some copies, although there are always exceptions. But the limitation does not extend.

I cannot access my personal email from my work computer, so I don’t always check it regularly throughout the day. Typically when Suntup makes an announcement, I’ll see it here on TDT and in my newsfeed on FB multiple times (Suntup’s original post and a minimum of four reposts). So by the time I check my personal email, the Suntup announcement is no longer the highest priority because I already got the message.

Will one of you out yourselves as Patricia's secret identity :ninja::ninja: to me already??

Otherwise she will have to live her life without the pleasure of selling a book to me  :rose:

(I'll even send it to Jeff to open because he seems nice and I'll bet that there's at least a 60% chance he'd even send it back to me after)

I can unbox OK. Be re-box? A gorgeous edition that's one of only 4 in the world? I'm not so sure I have the strength!

Though you can hold out hope that Red Horns will emerge on the secondary. The guy who won the Lettered Hill House sold it on eBay along with the winning key.

I would wonder what Red Horns would be worth.

…..oh....just great, now Suntup books are in my dreams. Dreamed Paul was teasing us with his next book and all he was showing us was pine needles and having a good laugh.

Yesterday I read this but missed the bit about this being a dream. A book I'd really like Suntup to do has parts set in the woods, so this morning I pulled out my copy, heart racing, and scanned to see if pine trees or needles were mentioned. They weren't, as far I could see, but the book is set somewhere that could have pine trees, so hope still lived. Just now I was sitting here wondering why no one was throwing out guesses and now I see...it was just a dream.

I was legitimately excited for the possibility, however remote, that he was doing this book...

I'm loving HORNS. Helps that I'm reading the fantastic Suntup AGE. I'm also loving the looks I get when people see that big red book with the cross on the cover come out of my backpack.

Also if I ever run for office and get elected to a position that requires me to take an oath of office, I'm going to be sworn in on my Suntup Numbered edition of HORNS. People might think it's a Bible. Pray I never run for office. Pray even harder I never get elected to anything.

I read this in the style of Pinhead from Hellraiser saying “WE HAVE SUCH SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU”.

That's a definite bonus. I'd love to have Doug Bradley read all of my posts. I'd love to have Doug Bradley sign my Earthling edition of HELLBOUND HEART. He's the only cenobite actor I'm missing! But no tears on my part--it's a waste of good suffering.

Jeff, you better give me that HellBound heart, OR, I'll tear your soul apart. Just kidding, I really am a nice guy, who just happens to love Hell Raiser. But, I have to say and to think, I hesitated, when considering Suntup books :belial:.

It could be me, but Crouching Tiger, Floating Dragon brings to mind images that have very little to do with fancy martial arts.

Methinks that poor tiger should eat more fibre...

If you read them both, I'd be curious to see how you think they compare. Floating Dragon was pretty successful, but I didn't like it (although it has lots going for it, so don't let me discourage you from reading it).

I've had it on my shelf for a few years now and King tossed a commercial for it in Tommyknockers which reignited my curiosity. But apart from Ghost Story, I've had a hard time enjoying Straub books. I remember giving up on Koko.

I have just received mine, and just have to say it is wonderful.

The quality is better than a heck of a lot of my king sl’s.

You don’t need me to endorse your books Paul, but feel the need to share how impressed I am yet again.

A book that literally makes me want to read it! Thank you.

While I love art, I really like original works versus prints/reproductions. I think that's why I've always been a remarque guy; it's the added touch of the artist's own hand adding artwork that really does it for me, whether in a book or on an art print. Of course I actually have to be attracted to the work of the artist as well; Rob Wood did a great job on these, the shading and detail in the dress is really good. You can tell he put time and effort into it instead of whipping one out in a minute like you might get at a comic-con.

Looking forward to the next one Paul!

I just spent entirely too long filling out the survey (listing only three wishlist titles was agonising!) at a time when I should either be working or heading off to bed.

Anyway, my answers are in!
